Tom hated Mitchell since their first meeting as plebes in the Naval Academy, when despite Tom being three years older, he and Mitchell ended up starting the same year, because they didn't even allow male Omegas before 1979.
Tom hated Mitchell because he was a short cocksure male Alpha, so it didn't matter that he was the son of the Beta traitor.
There were only six Alphas in their year, so pretty much nobody dared to question Mitchell place in Annapolis.
Tom was a male Omega, so it didn't matter that his father was a respected Navy Admiral Alpha.
Everyone was still questioning even allowing male Omegas in Annapolis, so it really didn't matter how perfect Tom was and how good his every score or grade was.
He was an Omega first, and why was he even there, instead of looking for some Alpha or Beta to marry and knock him down, like good Omega should?

Test run of an Alvin and the Chipmunks AU that I'd decided to start writing impulsively one night at 11 p.m.; things ended up spiralling from there. Lots might change.
As a disclaimer(?), the main pairing in this is Simon/Alvin. Slow burn, though, so initially it's Alvin/Brittany and Simon/Jeanette. Theodore/Eleanor all throughout, of course. In general, I try my best to explore all the various character dynamics (including ones that rarely interact in canon but have so much potential!!). It feels a little silly to admit but this has made my first co op term significantly more tolerable. I indeed spent more time on this than my actual summer job. I've got a bunch of draft chapters that I'm just going to be editing through and then posting; please bear with me.
I welcome any and all criticism. Please feel free to go off on me about absolutely anything.
Updates will probably be inconsistent. Don't have an ending planned either.
By the way, I sometimes end questions in dialogue with a period rather than a question mark when I feel it conveys the tone I'm going for better. I am genuinely sorry if it bothers you.

The setting is heavily inspired by early 1930s Berlin because that's what I know, but it is a made-up world with worldbuilding happening in the background. Still, as tagged, this fic will touch on themes of discrimination both personal and structural against queer people, women, and ethnic minorities (here mainly represented by the various hybrids). It is a dark time in their world as it was in ours, but their world's fate might not be as grim. -
