Not noticing the tacky red fingerprints he left on the yellow paint as he hummed a nameless tune, pacing the plane’s perimeter, gauging what whoever owned the plane was up to. Peering into the opened belly of the plane to see the parts missing from the engine, standing on his tiptoes to see from another angle.
Only to be startled by the sound of something shattering behind him.

The soft glow of the lights illuminated Bradley’s face, highlighting the lines of joy crinkling around his eyes. He looked as happy as Maverick remembered him being as a child on Christmas morning.
“This was actually really nice,” Bradley admitted, shaking his head. “Going through everything with you wasn’t as painful as I thought it’d be. Guess I never really thought that I—we—could have anything like this again. Anything so normal, so…happy, you know?”
“Yeah,” Maverick nodded, “I know.”
Bradley and Maverick confront some ghosts of the past and find warmth in each other on a cold Christmas Eve.
