Gaze wandering to the P-51 once again, drawn to the little plane like a moth to a flame. Pacing around it, putting a hand on it’s side.
“Well, aren’t you the prettiest damn thing, sweetheart?”
Because who was to know that Pete had started talking to the planes because Goose did? Emulating his brother in all but blood, taking confidence in a somewhat odd habit through the ensuing years.
Not noticing the tacky red fingerprints he left on the yellow paint as he hummed a nameless tune, pacing the plane’s perimeter, gauging what whoever owned the plane was up to. Peering into the opened belly of the plane to see the parts missing from the engine, standing on his tiptoes to see from another angle.
Only to be startled by the sound of something shattering behind him.

Tom Kazansky has always been hard to read. That doesn’t really matter though; not many people are interested in reading him. They know what they’ll get. He’s collected, he’s disciplined, he follows orders—it’s like he was raised in the army.
Of course, that’s what having a father who’s an admiral will do to you.
Tom Kazansky is also reserved, seems terrified of bringing shame to his family name and for some reason always changes the subject when family comes up.
Of course, that’s what having a father who used to beat you senseless will do to you.
AKA Ice has an abusive father that him and his sister are just trying to survive. When he suffers an injury during his time at Top Gun old people show up in his life again, opening up old wounds.

Summary
Slider has dealt with Ice and Maverick's shit for longer than he would like to imagine. He arrives to the aftermath of Bradley's flight after the two of them pull his papers and desperately searches to find his nephew and bring him home.
Because of him the reconciliation happens quicker than cannon and Bradley returns home. He is still however determined to fly. Equally so is his childhood friend and sweetheart Jake Seresin.
Slider had already put up with his best friends pinning and the turbulence of their relationship, now he finds himself repeating it as he watches the two boys grow apart and back together throughout the years. Slider is forced to watch as Jake, the kid he has known since him and Bradley were childhood friends, who he views as his son, and his nephew, a stubborn mix of Goose, Ice and Mav, struggle through life and their relationship.
This will follow Slider's pov. Ft. Married Icemav, Childhood friends and lovers Serenshaw, the paper pulling, Jake and Bradley at Top Gun, their breakup, Jake losing his wingman, and the events of Top Gun Maverick.
