That same feeling is what had Tom clinging tightly to a bottle of his father’s favorite port a little over an hour later. For the first time in what felt like a decade, he was almost excited to speak to the Admiral. Finally, he’d have good news to give his father.
Tom tugged slightly at the collar of his turtleneck, making sure everything was laying flat before he moved to his father’s office door, knocking firmly.
Men knocked with a purpose.
“Enter.”
Tom opened the door and let himself into the office, closing the door behind him. He moved to stand at parade rest in front of his father’s desk, setting the bottle of alcohol down neatly on the ornate mahogany.
“What the hell are you doing here, Thomas?” the admiral drawled, as though he was annoyed by his very presence.

“Three weeks had gone by since the incident of Hop 31, and Maverick was yet to properly sleep.”
In the universe where Goose lives, Maverick and his RIO survived and got away with only minor injuries. Although the Hop didn’t leave any physical scars, Mav is feeling the weight of the incident on his shoulders. Every time he tries to sleep, he has nightmares about killing his RIO. So he decides the best way to hand the situation is… to not sleep at all.
With a zombified Maverick at hand, it’s not long before the flyboys take notice and try to help their wingman. But with a panicked lie from the youngest aviator when questioned, they end up accidentally doing more harm than good.
It’s only so long before the truth comes out and Maverick is in need of some TLC. -
