Summary
Tom hated Mitchell since their first meeting as plebes in the Naval Academy, when despite Tom being three years older, he and Mitchell ended up starting the same year, because they didn't even allow male Omegas in before 1979.
Tom hated Mitchell because he was a short cocksure male Alpha, so it didn't matter that he was the son of the Beta traitor.
There were only six Alphas in their year, so pretty much nobody dared to question Mitchell place in Annapolis.
Tom was a male Omega, so it didn't matter that his father was a respected Navy Admiral Alpha.
Everyone was still questioning even allowing male Omegas in Annapolis, so it really didn't matter how perfect Tom was and how good his every score or grade was.
He was an Omega first, and why was he even there, instead of looking for some Alpha or Beta to marry and knock him down, like good Omega should?
So yeah, Tom hated Mitchell for almost all four years of their time together in Annapolis, so much that he seriously considered going to the Marine Corps just so he would never have to deal with him again!
Then Mitchell ended up killing Professor Hereward to save Tom's life, and Tom ended up going in stress induced heat.
