“Jimin, are you sure about this?” Taehyung asked as Jimin was making a big circle, big enough for Taehyung to sit in. He placed four candles around the circle, one in each direction, while Taehyung watched him with narrowed eyes, like Jimin had done this many times before.
“Relax, Tae. Nothing will happen.” Jimin waved Taehyung off and continued his work.
“And we are all done.” Jimin looked at his artwork proudly and rubbed his hands on his pants.
“Oh God, what did I get myself into?” Taehyung cried and rubbed his face, but got up from his position on the floor and started walking towards the circle.
“Don't worry, it's not like we'll summon a real demon or something.” Jimin laughed and pushed Taehyung lightly from the shoulder towards the circle.
“Yeah, yeah.” Taehyung rolled his eyes at Jimin.
Taehyung sat in the circle, criss-crossed, and took a long breath and closed his eyes. Jimin started lighting all the candles one by one around the circle, the flames dancing with the wind, and gave the book to Taehyung. Taehyung opened his eyes and looked at Jimin, unsure, but Jimin thrust the book into his hands.
Taehyung reluctantly took the book and started turning the pages, feeling the rough, brittle paper beneath his fingers, until he found the page with the ritual to summon the demon.
Taehyung looked at Jimin one more time with a look of hesitation in his eyes, but Jimin already had his eyes closed with his hands folded.
Taehyung shook his head a little and looked back at the page, furrowing his eyebrows. There were some weird symbols with some words written to summon a demon.
Taehyung started reciting the words.
“By flame and shadow, by blood and breath, I call the one beyond the veil. Hear my voice, cross the threshold, and answer my call.”
Taehyung held his breath unknowingly, but nothing happened.
Twice. Nothing happened.
Thrice. Nothing happened. Taehyung started to relax.
Fourth time.
“See, Jimin, I told you—” Before Taehyung could complete his sentence, all the candles went out, and a sudden stillness fell upon the apartment.
The apartment was dark apart from the moonlight coming through the gaps in the curtains, casting faint streaks of light across the floor and the circle.
It felt like the wind had picked up its speed, and suddenly Taehyung and Jimin could feel a chill running down their spines. All they could hear in the quiet apartment was the rustling of leaves from outside.
Jimin was continuously muttering prayers as he shifted towards Taehyung and held his hands.
“What the fuck is happening, Tae?”
“It was your fucking idea,” Taehyung whisper-shouted.
“B-But what should we do now?” Taehyung had his eyes tightly closed while Jimin was trying his best not to cry.
Suddenly, the apartment went eerily quiet.
Taehyung opened one eye and tried to look at the sudden change, his eyes slowly adjusting to the darkness.
And he caught a shadow looming over them. Taehyung's body went stiff, and he screamed and flopped onto the floor.
Seeing Taehyung, Jimin also screamed and lay on Taehyung's chest to hide from whatever had made Taehyung scream, gripping Taehyung's shirt tightly.
In all the screaming, standing above them was a very confused demon.
He was quietly observing the weird humans.
“Hello?” The demon tried, but his deep, husky voice only made the screaming more intense.
Why are they afraid of me? the demon thought before slightly approaching the screaming humans.
The demon tried once more.
“Hello.”
This time, the screaming slowly died down, but no one opened their eyes.
“Who summoned me?”
Taehyung pointed at Jimin while Jimin pointed at Taehyung.
The demon looked more confused. He tilted his head and looked at them.
“But only one person can summon me at one time.”
At this, Jimin opened his eyes and looked at Taehyung in shock before slowly scooting away from him.
“Yah! You are the one who summoned him.”
Taehyung looked sheepishly at Jimin and then at the demon and then pointed a finger at himself.
“Hello, my new human.”
The demon gave a big bunny smile, and Taehyung looked at him in awe, momentarily forgetting to be scared.
Seriously, Taehyung, he's a demon.
The demon had beautiful black wings that erupted from his back. His purplish eyes gave him a terrifying look.
But that smile.
That bunny smile could fool anyone.
He was wearing long brown pants, like they used to wear in the '80s. He had no shirt on, and he wasn't wearing any shoes or slippers.
He looked so odd standing there in a room with us, like a man from a different timeline.
He had the body of someone who went to the gym every day.
Hmph, how unfair.
“Taehyung, will you stop drooling over a demon for a minute?” Jimin hissed from beside him.
“I-I was just—stop talking nonsense. This is all your fault,” Taehyung stammered.
“Yeah, but you agreed to it,” Jimin said, giving Taehyung a smug look.
The demon sighed, clearly done with the two humans, and snapped his fingers.
All the lights came back on.
Taehyung and Jimin hugged each other, about to scream, when they suddenly realized the demon was standing right in front of them, smiling.
“Now can we talk, my human?” the demon asked.
“Which one of you is going to explain why you summoned me?” The demon pointed a finger at both Taehyung and Jimin.
Taehyung pointed at Jimin.
Jimin pointed at Taehyung.
The demon sighed and massaged his temple.
“This is going to be difficult.”
