Chapter Text
Dante washed his face and looked up at his reflection to see his face. His once long ass hair was now cut into his above shoulder length, and his beard was now just reduced to a small scruff on his face. He was happy to see the face he was born with again after nearly a year.
That afternoon, Mama Yaga's grandson had come home and offered to cut his hair before he left after dinner to go to the next town farther away from the swamp and town. He wanted to leave the moment the kid returned but Mama Yaga convinced him to eat dinner before leaving and let her grandson cut his hair.
Dante sighed shakily and exited the bathroom, wearing his usual gear except for his red coat that he left behind for Vergil to have Leverage for him to come back, along with his guns. He left all of his weapons behind to not give Raven any weapons in case he controlled him and go after his family. He was giving them a fighting chance.
Dante took a deep breathe before exhaling and going to go eat before he left for another town.
-
Dante sighs as he finishes his meal and places it on top of the other bowls. "Thank you, Mama Yaga. That was delicious and thank you for allowing me to stay for a year but It's time I head to the next town and find a place there." Mama Yaga sips her drink before swallowing and says. "No, you go home. You've been gone too long." Dante stares at her in shock before looking down and says. "I do want to go home but I can't. Raven, the other alter of me, is still in my head and wants to control me to kill the ones I love."
Mama Yaga hums and says. "If getting rid of Raven is all that takes for you to go home, then let Mama help you." Dante looks at her in confusion as she stands up and starts grabbing things left and right as he watches in astonishment.
After a minute, she hands him a cup full of tea and says. "This is tea that will help you sleep and face the one that scares you." Dante holds it and asks. "What, what do you mean?" "The best way to get rid of a problem, is to face it head on. The reason you can still feel him is because you allow fear to take hold of your heart and defy your wants to go home. Only getting rid of the pest will you be truly free child." He looks at her with hope in his eyes before looking at the drink in his hand and drinks it all in one gulp.
He feels himself getting sleepy before falling to his back, going into the land of dreams.
Dreamscape
Dante's eyes snapped open as he looks around the area to see that it was pitch black. He looked down to see that he was in his usual gear with his red coat and his sword was with him as well, along with his pistols.
'Thud'
Dante jumps at the sound of a thud and turns around to see a horrifying sight.
It was Raven and the different times he's killing Vergil.
There was one where he's ripping his heart out.
One where he's torturing Vergil like he did the demons he captured.
Another where he's snapping his brother's neck so far, his head twisted the wrong way.
And another, where he's gunned down by Raven with a sick twisted grin on his face.
Tears welled up in his eyes seeing this and he yells out. "STOP IT! This is my body, not yours!"
Raven appears ten feet from him, it unnerved Dante to see such a cruel look on his own face but he didn't really find it in himself to care. All he cared about was getting this bastard to stop. Ravem just smirked and says. "Really? It's your body? HA! Don't make me laugh. I made it better and it's mine. Do you really think anyone wants you around for what you did?"
Dante froze at this as Raven named off allot of people. "Grue and Jenny, they lost their lives because of you and the little girls have no family left. I bet they would smile and celebrate of hearing of your demise. What about that Gunsmith, Nell Goldstein. Her granddaughter will be thrilled that your slow ass is dead after getting her killed. What about Mary? You could've saved her from the pain if you just killed him yourself. And Trish. Do you really think she likes looking like a dead woman? If you'd just let her die, she wouldn't be suffering like that. Nero. You got his brother-in-arms killed because of you daddies' sword and killed his father. I'm sure he'd be happy to know the one killed him and his father kicked the bucket. Now, your brother. You took all of his mother's love, got him to suffer and killed him in cold blood. He'll be so happy to know that his annoying brother that killed him, it finally gone from his life."
Dante shook at this and before he could let the negative thoughts take over, he remembers his brother's words from two years ago.
'Stop doubting yourself or lower your self-esteem and don't push me away because of that negative little voice in the back of your head that spills out nothing but lies!'
Vergil was right. Dante spent way too damn long letting those thoughts control him. Only Grue's youngest daughter's didn't blame him for what happened to them and Nell, Nico looked up to her grandmother and Idolized him, Lady was content that she avenged her mother, Trish didn't mind looking like his mother and was happy with her life, Nero knew it wasn't his fault Credo died and didn't blame him for what happened to Vergil and Vergil, his big brother, never blamed him for anything. He didn't think it was Dante's fault for what happened to their mother, him or at Mallet Island. They wanted him in their lives; he just needed to break free from his chains and from Raven.
"Your right, that was my fault, but they don't think that." Raven looked at him in confusion as he continued. "I'm going to keep fighting for them. I made Mundus pay for what he did to them. Grue, Jenny, Nell, my mom and dad and my brother. I didn't kill Arkham because he was weakened when he got away, I just assumed he died but Lady confirmed that she killed him. She feels horrible for killing her dad, but she got justice for her mother. Trish doesn't mind it and she chose to look like my mom. She could cut her hair or dye it any day but she didn't, because I like her hair like that. Nero knew that his brother made a choice and he died believing in Nero and he knows what happened to his dad, but he was more concerned about me after I explained it. And my brother, never blamed me for anything. Not even when I killed him. (Huffs) I have friends and family that want me around, but I can't do that with you hanging around to kill them."
Dante holds out his hand to summon his sword and Raven whips out his electric sword. They stare at each other for a while before giving out a battle cry and clashing against each other.
-
Dante pants as he glares at Raven, who was panting as well. Both of them were scratched up and bruised from the fight but Dante was not giving up that easily.
"Just give it up. You won't win. I'll kill you and then all of those hellbloods and those hellblood lovers." Raven says, out breathe and Dante just laughed saying. "You're not killing me or my family and friends. You know why?" Raven just snarled and rushed towards Dante, who did the same thing and they slashed each other.
They stay on each side of each other in the same position but as Dante stood up straight, Raven falls to his knees and falls to the ground, blood pooling from his wound, dead.
He looks at Ravens dead body with a grin and says. "Cause I'm f**king son of Sparda, bitch. (Finger guns him) Bang." Raven's body vanishes into smoke and disappears and everything turns dark for Dante.
End of Dreamscape
Dante wakes up and pants, he notices that he was outside, laying on the ground with his bag right next to him. He slowly sits up with a groan and looks around in confusion. The town and the house were gone.
He touches his hair and face, his face shaven and his hair cut. He was super confused until he found a note attached to his bag. He grabs it and reads it.
Be at peace, son of Sparda
-Mama Yaga.
Dante chuckles when he realizes that he was helped by a ghost. He sits up and slings his bag over his shoulder, then starts walking. His walking soon turns to running and as he's running, he has a big old smile on his face. He grabs the bracelet around his wrist, ripping it off and throwing it away. He then soon triggers and jumps into the air, flying towards his home while whooping. "WOOHOOO!" He was back.
The Legendary demon hunter and the youngest son of Sparda was back baby.
-
At the Devil May Cry, Vergil was reading the note over and over again. This and the last note were the only things that he got from Dante that told him that he was okay. He was knocked out of his thoughts when the phone rang and he answered it. "Devil May Cry?" "Hey, Dad." The caller says, revealing to be Nero. Hearing his sons voice made Vergil's derepressing day a little bit better. "Nero, hello, how's Kyrie and the kids?" Vergil asks, a small smile creeping up his face. "They're good Julio got an A on his math test; Kyle made a score in soccer and Carlo climbed up the couch by himself."
Vergil chuckles and says. "Good for them. You better keep a better eye on Carlo, if he's climbing on furniture now, then you need to watch him so that he won't fall." "Yeah, Kyries thinking about keeping the chairs put up and putting the coffee table up as well, so he won't hurt himself. How're you?" "I'm (Sighs) I'm as okay as I'll ever be. I was just rereading the letter Dante sent me." "Dante contacted you!?! What'd he say!?" "He said that he was fine, heard about what happened to Dark Comm and will send another letter again if he hasn't already returned home."
"Shit. Raven's still in there?" "It appears so. According to the letter, Dante will be going to another town since the woman that he was helping and staying with Grandson had returned home. I, I had hoped a year away would allow Dante to rest his head and maybe change his mind about staying away from us, but Dante is stubborn when it comes to the ones that he cares about. That's just who Dante is, always self-Sacrificing and always blames himself when he could be blaming the puppet master's but that's just how Dante is." "Would you change anything about him?" Nero asks, making Vergil think for a moment.
He doesn't think changing Dante's self-sacrificing tendencies is worth it because that's what makes Dante, Dante. Always willing to help people in need, even if their ungrateful about it and should be thankful Dante did anything at all and they are also partly to blame. He wouldn't change that, maybe try to get his brother to be a little more Cautious but other than that, no. No, he would not change that at all.
His guilt complex on the other hand, definitely but only some so that Dante would understand that it's not all of his fault and that he did all he could. "No, no I wouldn't change that at all. He's Dante, my little brother that is too pure for this world and their selfishness's." "Agreed. Hey, uh, you want to sleep over here tonight? I'm sure the kids would love to see you again and you shouldn't be alone on your birthday." Vergil smiles at his son's consideration but in honesty, he wants to be alone right now. "Thank you, Nero, but I'm okay right now. I just want to get through the day and hope that Dante comes home the next day but I'll come over for dinner tomorrow."
"Okay, Dad. I understand. I'll let Kyrie know you're coming over. See you tomorrow." Nero says, hanging up and Vergil doing the same. He sighs as he clutches the letter in his hand, tightly, missing his brother dearly. He wants him home. Vergil takes a shaky breath and decides to try to get some sleep.
As he walks up to the stairs, he freezes when he feels a familiar presence that he has not felt in a year. He opens a window and pokes his head out to see a red demon landing away from the shop and it turns into a familiar face as they stand up, moving his head side to side and stretching. He groans and says in a familiar voice. "Whew. Not triggering for a year leaves the joints stiff as hell."
Vergil felt tears in his eyes as he rushes to the door to see his little brother that just came home.
-
Dante sighs as he walks towards the shop. The lights were off and he could tell Vergil was inside, awake. He knows full well that Vergil was gonna be pissed that he left like that and he was ready to be stabbed because he knew he deserved it after leaving like that.
Dante jumped when he heard the doors slam open and looked up to see Vergil standing there. He couldn't see his face and before he could say anything, Vergil teleports into him, knocking him into the ground.
He looks at Vergil in shock as he sobs and cries saying. "I love you too!" Dante freezes at hearing those words from his brother. He hadn't heard those words from him in years. He knows Vergil loves him; he just has a hard time saying it and showing it. This felt like a dream come true for Dante.
Vergil kept saying those words over and over again while clutching the back of his jacket and Dante hugs him back too, a few tears streaming down his face and saying. "I love you."
Brothers, once separated due to evil, now reunited once again.
To be continued.
