Chapter Text

It was a normal day. The autumn sun was setting against a lavender and orange sky. Enid was scrolling reels on her phone at medium volume, for Wednesday. The seer was busy with her novel. Enid was happy to see her doing something other than combing through Frump family records.

beep Enid’s phone buzzed, ten-percent low battery. Enid groaned as she leaned off the edge of her bed to grab her charger off the nightstand, but it wasn’t there.
“Have you seen my phone charger?”
“No I have not.” Wednesday responded. “How is it you manage to lose everything?”
“Very funny. Can you help me look for it?” Enid rolled her eyes while searching through her drawers. Wednesday got up stiffly and began scanning the room when she saw something gleaming under Enid’s bed. She got on her knee and reached for the charger but the moment she made contact with it, her head snapped back and her body went rigid. Then she fell backwards like a limp rag doll. If it weren’t for Enid’s sharp reflexes her head would’ve smacked off the floorboards.

Wednesday shot up a few moments later like a WACK-A-MOLE. She started hyperventilating but, despite this, she took these gasping breaths that never made it to fill her lunges. Her hand rested on the base of her neck.

“Hey Wednesday, breathe! You’re in Ophelia hall!” Enid tried to comfort but Wednesday retracted when she heard the dormitory's name.

Swiftly Eid grabbed Wednesday's unoccupied hands and held them. She moved one of them to her chest and forced it there. They began to breathe, Wednesday following Enid’s pace. Slowly she began to calm down.
“There you go, deep breaths. You’re safe.” The blonde coed.
“What was that?” Wednesday spit out when she refined her voice.
“A panic attack, have you never had one?”
“No, it felt like suffocating but without the enjoyment.” Wednesday concluded which made Enid giggle.
“Yeah, what did you see?”
“My aunt. She’s alive, locked away somewhere. She was writing on the wall about how I must die.” The seer retold vividly, her voice trailing off at the end.
“I know that’s scary. ” Enid placed her hand on Wednesday’s shoulder.
“It wasn’t that, she…she looks exactly like me.” Wednesday confessed, her voice wearing slightly lightly.

Wednesday caved in on herself as she spoke and Enid felt her heart breaking. Hearing about her death was something Wednesday had grown used to, but seeing with her own eyes that she had something in common with her aunt was too much. Enid knew how much she feared becoming like her, a mad bundle of darkness locked away somewhere. She loathed the idea of being ostracized by her family, the only people ever to never treat her as different, until Enid.

The wolf had been surprised when they switched bodies just how much emotion Wednesday had within her and she wondered how the raven went through everyday without expressing it. How she just let it sit within her bones, stinging like after burn.

Enid captured her in a bone crushing hug. Wednesday found she liked the pressure. It was comforting, grounding. When they pulled apart Enid made a point of staying close to her, warm hands resting on her knees.
“Come on.”
“What are you doing?” Wednesday wondered.
“Taking care of you!” Enid replied.
“That is unnecessary.” Wednesday deflected.
“How many times have you waited on me after wolfing out? At least let me put you in bed, you need to rest.” Enid argued.

Wednesday took pity on her and allowed Enid to help her up and into bed. Enid left to get her a glass of water but when she returned the seer was asleep. Her face had completely relaxed as her mind recharged.

Enid’s chest tightened as she walked over quietly, setting the glass down. Then she leaned over and moved ebony bangs off her forehead before pressing a gentle kiss to the cold skin. If she could help it no one was gonna hurt Wednesday, let alone kill her.

No, Enid wouldn’t let that happen.
