Not only were all of Tommy’s hybrid features completely pointless, but he also couldn’t see color. Most bug hybrids couldn’t.
It was an unfortunate side effect some high percent hybrids had. That some of their senses would match those of their hybrid half.
So, while all of Tommy’s other senses were entirely human, his sight wasn’t.For his entire life, the world had been blanketed in shades of grey, black for the shadows, white for the light, and every shade in between. Completely monochrome, devoid of colors he didn’t know were missing until he was told they were.
It didn’t bother him. Most of the time.
He was used to it. It was commonplace for Tommy to be useless in any task consisting of knowing colors.
Sighing, he finished making the order for his current customer. Tommy turned around, placed the drink on the pickup counter and called her name.

Tommy is a moth hybrid who can’t see color. He’s been alone most of his life, after recently aging out of the foster system and getting a job at a cafe.
Until he meets Wilbur, who both makes him lose his job and gives Tommy a reason to want to live a life that isn’t monochrome.
