“Engaged?! Are you fucking kidding me?!”, Kimizuki exclaimed while they were sitting at the table and were currently eating, “Only a moment ago you two were just dating! What’s next?! Adopting children?!”
“Nonsense!”, Yuu replied matter-of-factly, sitting across from him, “Who would adopt children during such times? That only comes as soon as the war’s over.”, he added with a cheerful smile on his face before he shoved one slice of bread into his mouth, not noticing how Mika, who was sitting right next to him, blushed at his words.
“…He’s a lost case.”, Kimizuki remarked with a heavy sigh.
“Completely head over heels.”, Mitsuba deadpanned.
“Totally on cloud nine.”, Narumi added.
“And what if?”, Yuu countered with a shrug of his shoulders, “I’m happy with him. As long as I can be with him for the rest of my life, I don’t care if I’m a lost case. And besides, I like to be head over heels for him.”, he stated, already chewing on a second slice of bread.
Hearing the last part of the sentence, Mika blushed even more and looked to the side in embarrassment while the others just gave a sigh of exasperation.
Only Yoichi remained somewhat cheerful and chuckled at his talking before he said with a smile on his face:
“I’m happy for you two. Congrats, Yuu-kun.”
“Tha- Wait a sec, why does it sound like you’d praise me for winning the lottery or something like that?”
“Because it’s something like the eighth world miracle for you to have found someone who has enough nerves to actually start a relationship with you, let alone to agree to marry you.”, Kimizuki said in a sarcastic tone.
“What did you just say?!” Yuu asked, glaring at him with an angry expression.
“You’ve heard me just fine.”, he replied calmly, riling him up even more.
“Take that back!”
“And what if I don’t?”
“Then I’ll make you!”
“I would like to see you try.”, Kimizuki said with a small laugh.
“Then come here, stupid telephone pole!”, Yuu exclaimed, standing up.
“With pleasure!”, he replied, standing up as well.
Watching the two getting into an argument, Mitsuba and Narumi just face palmed, while Yoichi tried to calm them down again and Mika gave a heavy sigh.
“So~”, he suddenly heard Shinoa right beside him saying in a cheerful voice, “How is it like to be Yuu-san’s boyfr- I mean fiancé?”, she asked in curiosity, making him look at her with that.
“U-um…”, Mika replied, not quite sure how to respond to that and also feeling a little bit intimidated by her question.
“Shinoa!”, Yuu called her name in a commanding tone, “Stop bothering Mika!”
“I’m not bothering him at all.”, Shinoa objected in an innocent sounding voice, looking over to Yuu, “I’m just asking the important questions.”
“As if! You only want to know something to tease us for later and-”
“Anyway,”, she continued, ignoring what Yuu was saying in that moment, shifting her gaze back to Mika, “I’m really curious how far you’ve taken your relationship until now.”
“H-huh?”, he replied, not quite getting what she intended to say with that.
“Have you two done ‘it’ already?”, she asked bluntly, not a hint of embarrassment on her face.
“W-what?”, Mika wanted to know in confusion.
“Well, of course se-”, was all Shinoa managed to say before Mitsuba covered her mouth with her hand.
“Don’t mind her.”, Mitsuba said, giving her an angry glare, “She’s just babbling nonsense, like always.”
“That’s mean, Mitsu-Chan.”, Shinoa whined, after removing her hand from her mouth again, “I just wanted to know if our two lovebirds have lost their cherry-boy status to each other already.”, she said innocently, causing everyone to look at her in shock and Mika to turn bright red.
“Shinoa!”, Yuu exclaimed, also with a visible blush on his face, causing her to giggle at his reaction.
Soon, they’ve all finished eating and cleaned the dining room together before they decided to call it a day and went into their rooms in order to sleep.
After changing into their pyjamas, Yuu lied down on their shared bed with his eyes closed, waiting for sleep to overtake him while he ran his fingers through Mika’s hair, who was lying on top of him with his head resting on his chest and also with his eyes closed.
Over those few weeks they got used to do this every night. Mika loved listening to Yuu’s heartbeat while he slowly fell asleep and also continued to do that for the rest of the night. Since he didn’t need to sleep himself after all, there wasn’t much he could do except for waiting for him to wake up again the next morning so this was a nice way to spend the night. And also Yuu enjoyed having him so close to him during his sleep or finding him snuggled up to him the next day.
“They…took it pretty well, didn’t they?”, Mika remarked eventually, still with his eyes closed and with a smile on his face while Yuu currently played with some of his strands.
“Yeah.”, Yuu replied with a small laugh, “Even though…we should have still kept it a secret from Shinoa. Like I thought, she really has it in for us now.”, he said with a sigh, “No matter what she says, just ignore her. It’s just her kind of humour and if you’ll give her the kind of reaction she wants to see, there’s no way she’ll stop anytime soon.”
“…Okay.”
Shortly after, silence filled the room once again after that, and while Yuu was slowly beginning to drift off to sleep, Mika couldn’t help but to be deeply lost in his thoughts about something particular that just didn’t want to leave his mind anymore.
“…Yuu-Chan?”, Mika broke that silence after a little while.
“Hm?”
“Say…did you ever…think about…’that’?”, he asked in a hesitant voice, unsure if he really should pose that question or not.
“About what?”, Yuu wanted to know in a sleepily sounding voice
“Sex.”, Mika replied bluntly, causing Yuu’s hand in his hair to abruptly stop moving.
“For god’s fucking sake, not you, too!”, he exclaimed with a heavy and annoyed sigh, “I said you should better ignore what Shinoa says. It’s nothing more than nonsense anyw-”
“Have you?”, Mika cut him off after quickly sitting up and looking at him.
Noticing that unusual pleading look in his eyes, Yuu realized that he was serious about that question and that he must have been thinking about it a lot since Shinoa had mentioned it.
“No, Mika. I haven’t.”, Yuu said with another sigh.
“O-oh…”, Mika replied, a flicker of surprise appearing on his face for a brief second before he nervously looked to the side, “I-I see…”
“And…what about you?”, Yuu wanted to know, after watching him for a few seconds and also averting his gaze with a faint blush on his face, “Have you…you know…”
“No.”, Mika replied, slightly shaking his head, “To be honest…not even once.”
“Then where’s the problem?”, Yuu asked with a small laugh, “If that’s the case, then everything’s alright, isn-”
“That’s exactly the problem!”, Mika cut him off in a little bit raised voice, causing Yuu to look at him in slight surprise and then continued in a quieter voice, “Because I…haven’t thought about that at all…”
“…”
“If you’re in love with someone…”, he began in a hesitant voice, still avoiding eye contact, “you also…think about doing ‘that’ with that person, right? But…for some reason…that just doesn't cross my mind.”
“…”
“N-not that I don’t love you.”, Mika assured him, sounding slight panicked since he feared he could misunderstood him, “I do. I really do. More than anything else in this world. It’s just…I…don’t want to do that with you. Actually I…don’t want to do that with anyone. I…don’t feel the need for that. Not at all. It’s weird, isn’t it?”, he asked with a small laugh.
“Mika.”, Yuu said his name in a calm voice while sitting up.
“Even though…it’s something everyone should want to do eventually with the one they love…it doesn’t happen to me.”
“Hey.”
“I don’t feel like doing ‘that’ with you. I never did.”, he continued, not seeming to listen to Yuu at all, “I-I like our relationship like it is now. Hugging…kissing…cuddling…lying in bed, doing nothing…that’s more than I could ever ask for a-and I know that’s actually not how I should feel. That I should want more than that.”
“Could you-”
“But I can’t help it.”, Mika just cut him off mid-sentence, “No matter how hard I try to think about it…or to imagine it…it just doesn’t appeal to me and I doubt that it ever will. Maybe I’m just not-”
Shifting his gaze back to him at the last part of the sentence, Mika only saw how Yuu leaned it and shortly after was silenced by him with a kiss, causing him to flinch ever so slightly with that unexpected action.
A few seconds later, Yuu broke the kiss again and pulled back a little bit while opening his eyes.
“Stop babbling nonsense already.”, he said in a whispering tone, their faces still inches apart.
“B-but…”, was all Mika managed to say, still embarrassed due to the sudden kiss and with a bright red face while he looked down.
Seeing how confused and bothered he still seemed about that topic, Yuu sighed before he placed his hands on either of Mika’s shoulders, making him look at him again with that.
“Mika, listen.”, he began in a calm and gently voice, “It’s true that couples want to do ‘that’ sooner or later. That it’s part of their relationship.”
“…”
“But if you don’t feel the need for that, it’s fine. It’s completely fine. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to. I’m also not…very fond of that idea."
“…”
“But that doesn’t mean I love you any less just because of that. I want to kiss you, want to hug you, want to fall asleep beside you and wake up next to you in the morning…I want to do all these things with you until the rest of my life…until the day I die…Things I wouldn’t want to do with anyone else…only with you.”
“…”
“If people do ‘that’ when they’re in love, then so be it. I don’t care. It’s not up to them to decide what we’re gonna do or not in our relationship. It’s our love.”, he stated in determination while letting go of his shoulders, “…And it’s perfect.”
Letting his words sink in for a short moment and looking deeply into his bright and gently emerald eyes after he said that, Mika was at a loss for words. And shortly after…without him even realizing what he was doing, he cupped his face with his both hands before he closed his eyes and leaned, gently pressing his lips against Yuu’s warm ones.
It was the first time Mika was initiating the kiss and not the other way round. And even though they had already kissed three times like that…Yuu could still feel how multiple shivers ran down his spine in that moment, causing his heart to gain unnatural speed and making him feel that weird but nice tingling sensation that was slowly forming in his stomach.
But before he could close his eyes and enjoy that moment between them any further, it was already over again since Mika broke the kiss all of a sudden and quickly buried his face into his chest, trying to hide his embarrassment.
Yuu knew it was his natural reaction after a kiss and since he could already tell the reason for that, he asked:
“…Butterflies again?”
“…Mhm…”, Mika replied, his face feeling like it was burning, “Does this…never happen to you?”, he wanted to know in a hesitant and quiet voice.
“Of course it does.”, Yuu replied with a small laugh, “It’s just…I don’t mind that much.”
“…”
“Maybe you’re some kind of flower and that’s why so many are always coming to you or- Ouch.”, he joked, receiving a punch into his side from him.
“Dumbass…”, Mika murmured, feeling his face heating up even more and making him laugh with that remark.
“And don’t worry about that so much.”, Yuu assured him, changing the topic back to the previous one, “Like I said, it’s fine if you don’t want to. It’s your decision and I fight anyone who says otherwise.”
“You’re honestly the best boyfriend someone could ask for…”, he said with a smile on his face while slowly wrapping his arms around him.
“Fiancé…”, Yuu corrected him with a pout.
“Ah, right. My bad.”, Mika replied with a small laugh, “A lot has happened today and…I’m not used to call you like that, yet, that’s all. It just…still doesn’t feel like that. I mean-”
“…Sorry.”, he suddenly cut him off with that apology.
“For what?”
“That I don’t have a ring for you…and that I…probably can’t give you an expensive wedding if the times comes…or a nice honeymoon…”
“Don’ be.”, Mika said in a quiet voice and with a smile, deeply moved by his words, “I don’t need a ring nor an expensive and pompous wedding. And even if ‘honeymoon’ means spending a few more weeks in this old and shabby shed…I wouldn’t mind. Because you make me happy…and as long as I can be with you…and hold you close like this…there’s nothing else I need.”
Feeling how his face was heating up and the tingling sensation inside his stomach intensified at these words, a warm smile formed on Yuu’s lips before he slowly wrapped his arms around Mika and pulled him a little bit closer to him.
“…Mika?”, he asked in a tender voice, resting his chin on top of his head.
“Hm?”
“How many children do you want after everything’s over?”
A heavy sigh escaped Mika shortly after hearing that unexpected question and with a serious tone in his voice, he said:
“Yuu-Chan.”
“…Take it slowly?”
“Exactly.”
