Chapter Text
Loki had thought of a plan. He would just try to call the McDonald's. What could go wrong if it failed? Nothing noteworthy really.
Was that his best plan? No, not really, but it was the only thing he could do right now.
With him being stuck in the tower, it was not possible to just walk to the McDonald's. It would also sound really stupid. Loki, the public enemy number one, wants to go to a McDonald's.
A McDonald's were sticky children hang out. Where parents fight for their life to gain control. Where everything smells like oil all the time. No thank you.
So this was his only option.
And so the days passed. Loki knew he had to build trust with the remaining Avengers. Only then he could get a phone. So he put on his best behavior.
Bruce was probably the easiest person to build trust with. He was a scientist after all and wanted to know everything about Asgardiens and their biology. It's not like he knew Lokis' real origin. It also became clear very quickly that he was the one that pached Loki's worst wounds, at least the ones he could see. Funny enough, he was also the one that had the most fear of him.
Natasha held a professional distance. Her motto was to be friendly enough but also did not let him see behind her mask. But he could respect that, as he was doing the same.
Steve was the same, just a bit more open. He embodied the mantra of giving everybody the benefit of the doubt till they did something truly horrible. Loki guessed that's why he couldn't hate Bucky, even after he had tried to kill him. Lucky for him.
Tony showed him his relaxed and funny side, but Loki could see the thermoil underneath. He didn't hide it very well, in Lokis' opinion, but the other people didn't seem to notice. Except for maybe Pepper.
She was in general a very observant person. The few times he had seen her over the last few days, she always looked beyond what was on the surface. It was funny. She always noticed the little things Tony did or didn't do that made it clear he thought too hard about things again.
And Thor his o so great brother, avoided him almost completely. He probably couldn't jump over his own shadow again. It didn't matter anyways. The less Loki talked to him, the less he would suspect that Loki was not himself. Not like he ever noticed.
The Avengers and he fell into a kind of routine. In the morning they would get him. Let him get what he wanted in the community kitchen, then bring him back to the room.
Later in the day Bruce would show up with new questions for him to answer. He made it his mission to find out everything about Asgard and Asgardins. After an hour or so, Loki didn't really know what time it was, Stark would come in very annoyed and pull Bruce out every time.
More often than not, Rogers would get him to eat dinner with the whole Avengers team. He'd guessed it was a little trust-building thing, though it didn't really work that well.
Thor always sat himself as far away from Loki as he could, and the others just felt more awkward around him. The fact that Barton was also not there didn't help either.
Oh well, what could be done about it...
He hadn't proven himself to those heroes. He also didn't plan to make friends with them in the end. For now it was all just a means to an end.
It was a typical morning for the Avengers, well, typical since Loki was trapped in the Tower.
Natasha and Bruce were already in the kitchen when Loki and Steve came in. The coffeemaker already running.
They had noticed that not just they liked a good cup of it in the morning, but Loki was also quite fond of it. So they just waited to brew new coffee for him.
But this morning was a bit different. Normally they would have a polite conversation, and then Loki would be brought back to his room, but this morning he asked for something.
"Could I use a phone? I would like to call an... aquitens—" said Loki with not much care about how he worded it. So he said it with the flattened tone he could manage.
All three of them were a bit shocked. They didn't expect him to ask for something like this. In the few weeks he's been here, he's never mentioned that he knew somebody from earth. Nor had they had any knowledge that he had formed connections on earth while he was attacking it.
But what if this was just a ruse to escape from here? What if he still had somebody under his control, or he knew somebody that could help him escape?
Even though they believe that he was controlled by somebody, he still wasn't trustworthy.
But could they really deny him such an easy request?
They all looked at each other. Nobody wanted to be the one to say the first thing. But they had to...
Steve hesitated to answer, "Umm... sure—I guess you can't really do much with it..."
Still unsure if this was the right decision he had made, he pulled out his phone from his pocket and handed it to Loki.
It was an old Nokia brick phone. Not much to mess up on. After all, Steve still had to adjust to the modern world. After being in the ice for so long. He had no idea about anything that was going on. So S.H.I.L.D. thought it would be a good idea to not overwhelm him with the newest high tech.
Loki took it. He hoped that he was trusted into a timeline where his Sylvie was alive and well. And then he started to type in the number-
After a few rings, a familiar voice answered the phone.
"Hello, this is McDonald's, you're speaking with Sylvie. How can I help you today?"
He was lucky.
"Hello Sylvie," is all Loki said.
He heard Sylvie suck a breath in. He knew she recognized his voice.
"Is that you, Loki? Oh my gosh... but- but how?"
"I'm sorry, but I can't tell you that..."
A short silence lingered between the two of them. What couldn't he tell her? What does that mean? And then it dawned on her... She just had realised something—and it was not good.
"Wait if you're here—why is the timeline not unraveling?"
"I do not know... I don't know a lot," said Loki with a heavy heart. He wished he could tell her everything was okay and nothing was going to happen with the timeline, but that was not the truth.
Another pause...
"I'm coming to you-"
"You can't." He didn't want her to come...
"And why not? If you really don't know, then my life here could be in danger! So don't say to me I can't do anything about it-"
Loki sucking in a breath.
"Okay... Then come, but please don't get yourself in danger again. It's not worth it..."
"Okay, I will promise you that..."
And with that, Sylvie hung up.
Only now did Loki look up again at the three Avengers in front of him. Confusion written on their faces. They couldn't believe he called somebody and they answered?!
And who was coming? Who is this person that was talking to him? He seemed worried about her. Who would Loki be worried about on earth?
It didn't make any sense for the Avengers.
But that didn't even matter to Loki. He was more concerned over the timeline right now. After his little talk with Sylvie, he realized again how dangerous this thing could become, especially with his sedir now being gone.
It has already been too long. This had to be resolved soon... Or else—
