Chapter 4: ordinary

Summary:

Touya has a game Keigo and Touya have alone time together.

Chapter Text

Touya didn’t blame Keigo for saying Government was his least favorite subject, alas Touya enjoyed the matter given that politics was used to manipulate people in the funniest way. He could see how bad that point of view was, but that’s all Government class really was. Propaganda, manipulation, control, at least there was an illusion of order and under a legal hierarchy… he could work on being less pessimistic.

Class ended, Touya finished up his notes best he could. He may be taking Fuyumi’s classes, but they would both have to look at each other's notes in the future for University to understand what they missed out on.

“Fuyumi Todoroki.”

Touya looked up seeing Sakamata, waving him over.

Oh shit.

Relax…

Touya gathered his belongings, placed everything in his book bag and walked up to his large desk as the last of the class filled out. Patting down the skirt watching the instructor pull out his last assignment he turned in, it was long and a jumbled rant he went on. He didn’t think it was so bad that he would have to be talked to about it.

“Your last assignment. What made you write it?”

“It fell under the qualification of the guide, so I met every criteria… were the citations wrong?”

“No… you chose to write: ‘Institutional Oppression of The Historic Economically Underprivileged.’ And used police and government injustices to prove your point. Touya cringed not knowing where this was going, watching the large man flip through a couple of pages. Did he have pieces of Fuyumi’s old essays from her last school? If so there was going to be a clear gap in who wrote which paper!

“I cited every point I had, they’re all academic evidence based. I met the criteria listed.”

“Yes. You did… isn’t Todoroki the Police Chief?”

Ohh… okay. He may be jumping the gun every time and assume the worst. “…yes.”

“But you wrote this?”

“…yes.”

Touya pushes his tongue against his teeth watching the man flip back over to the front page. “Todoroki, I am very interested in reading more from your perspective. Most kids who have parents in positions like that often write to defend the systems they benefit from. You are writing against that at the entry University level… I am very happy to read this. You’re not there just yet, but when the time comes if you keep giving me papers like this I would like to write a letter of recommendation in the future.”

Touya would love to see his dads face hearing an educator praising him, for bashing the profession he ruined family relationships for.

“Hah! Really?” Touya grinned as Sakamata handed him his paper back, handwritten notes he hadn’t noticed on pages.

“Yes. Very bold, a lot of papers come off as mundane breakdowns of how the law works. Yours was a very opinionated piece.”

“Hah.. opinionated.” He mostly gets that type of feedback from Natsuo.

“Hope you don’t mind, I made a copy for myself. I wanted to return the original.” Touya nods after Sakamata excused himself, skimming through the notes wondering if he wrote any critiques on the current Chief of Police. He can’t help if he feels pleased that there's someone else to make fun of his dad with besides his brother.

“Fuyumi! Are you okay?” Touya heard the concerned voice followed by Keigo brushing up next to him, assuming he was waiting for him outside Sakamata’s classroom. “You were in there for a while.”

“Yeah, just getting a paper back.” He smiled flashing the cover to the blonde, following his eyes skimmed over the title and a few beginning sentences. There’s clear disinterest hidden under the golden gaze and Touya pulls the paper away. “I know you don’t like Government or History.”

“Eh… no, sorry. I know that you’re interested in that kind of thing, I can still read it if you want.”

“Nah, it’s fine”

‘Interesting point police agencies and the military worked together to enforce censorship and control of groups in-.’

“Are you going to eat today or were you going to do more homework?” Keigo asked leaning his head on the others shoulder, holding his hands behind his back. Trying to follow along what Touya had typed out on the paper, it was too much information on topics he was severely lacking the required knowledge in. But he still wanted to take part in the others' interests.

“Depends. Did you bring food?”

“Nope.”

“Okay, I have something.”

“You don’t have to share.”

“It’s not for me. I just need you to try it.” Touya shoved his papers in his bag, feeling for a glass container. Pulling it out, handing it over to Keigo. “Go warm it up, I’m going outside.” He watched as Keigo ran off while he walked outside, it was cooling down now thank goodness! It made wearing all the layers less miserable. Texting Fuyumi as he stepped outside, spotting an empty bench in the shade that was still available.

T: you’re going to pass government

T: the instructor likes my stuff

He’s about to write that Sakamata was going to consider a letter of recommendation until he realizes it’s Fuyumi who’s getting it. Pausing, letting his fingers hover, remembering, he- Touya, isn’t getting this credit for his work. He feels his phone vibrate in his hand, sees a few texts bubbles pop up unaware of how long he was thinking to himself.

F: THANK YOU

F: YES

F: ALSO IM PASSING YOUR

PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY CLASS BTW

F: ILL SHOW YOU THE WHOLE REPORT

AT HOME!

F: 💫💫 I don’t think I have a firework

emoji??

F: BUT THIS IS SO EASY 👍

“Is this chicken?” Touya moved his bag to allow space for Keigo, clicking the side of his phone to lock, not wanting to think about how he really wasn’t getting the praise from Sakamata. Fuyumi was, which is… fine. It’s just not for him.

“Just eat it.”

“But it’s yours.”

“No it’s not.”

“…you brought me lunch?”

“Maybe, if you don’t eat it I’ll have to find someone else to give it to.” Touya crossed his arms leaning back against the wooden bench watching the blonde. Rummaging through his own bag for a moment, pulling out a pair of bamboo chopsticks wrapped in paper. “You carry those around?”

“I grab extra when getting takeout!" Touya nodded at… his boyfriend?… Fuyumi’s boyfriend, technically. Because he’s a girl, he’s a temporary girlfriend. Tapping his foot against the pavement watching the blonde chew, picking up another piece eating it.

“Well? Rate it.”

“Maybe.. 5 or 6 out of 10.”

Fuck that, I am not cooking again.

Everyone else at dinner said it was fine, they still ate it all. Besides what Touya had stored aside to bring Keigo lunch today. “Alright, well. You’re not getting it again.”

“Getting what?”

“That. I’m not going to cook if it’s not good.”

“Wait. You made this?! No! It’s good! I love it!” Keigo exclaims facing the other, showing him eating the chicken. Touya pursed his lips leaning back, tugging at the tiny ponytail to keep from pulling on it. “I promise it’s good!”

“It’s fine, just eat it if you want or don’t.” Luckily Fuyumi was also taking Home Economics for him… maybe he should’ve taken it, but he deemed it a waste of time.

“I’m sorry! That’s so sweet of you- I bet it tastes better fresh.” Keigo defended while Touya leaned his head back staring up.

“I hear you Keigo, it’s not a big deal.”

“I.. okay, if you say so. But now I have to do something for you.”

“No. I don’t need anything.”

“Fine… You never told me your favorite food.” The blonde pointed out finishing the food, closing the container, discarding the chopsticks at a trash can nearby.

“Soba.”

“Ah, hot stuff… that’s ironic when I just gave you that nickname.” The blonde sets the container aside sitting closer than he was earlier, placing his hands in his lap so he doesn’t make Todoroki uncomfortable.

“I like it cold.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I run hot.”

“Fair enough… you have a game today.”

“Yes.”

“Can I watch you?”

“Yes.”

“Do you want a personal cheerleader?”

Touya gags at the idea, sticking his tongue out receiving a laugh from the blonde. “I do not.”

“Hah! Understood.”

In his mind he thought this game would be as easy as the last, it’s still early in the season. Whatever higher power there is loves proving him wrong. He received a yellow card from tripping Number 10 on the opposing team, she ran into his leg! He hasn’t hit his growth spurt, he’s not that big!

He could feel Usagiyama keeping an eye on him, making sure he didn’t earn the team a foul. He sees he has a clear shot to dive and does it, the ball shooting past the goalie’s left leg- he saw earlier that they were right dominant. He thinks it’s a clean shot, no one’s leg was hit in the process. Until the same girl- Number 10, ran at him while the ball was still in motion towards the goalie. Sticking her cleat between his torso and the ground, intentionally using it to fall forward. Hearing a whistle, Usagiyama yelled back that it wasn’t a foul. Touya was too annoyed, the girl's weight was on him, shoving her legs away hearing her moan she’s in pain.

“Stop it- you’re fine! You just kicked me- move!” Touya pushed forward, shoving at the girl to roll her off him. She was just as bad as Natsuo! By the time he was up he could feel the other girls start circling him.

“You keep trying to knock us down!”

“You ran into me.” It’s already called, the goal and fall was made at the same time and Touya already had a yellow card, once was fine. But twice is too much of a coincidence for the referee, so he deemed it a foul. If Fuyumi were here she would’ve conceded, if she was also here she wouldn’t have made it on to the field. However at that moment Touya wished he had her meek nature, still arguing with the girl, just for the others on her team to yell back at him. He’s too much like his dad.

Usagiyama pulls him back, switching him out for another player. “I saw what she did. It doesn’t matter, they’re just going to come at you again. Go sit for a while, Fuyumi. Let us get ahead for a bit.” Touya pushed his tongue against his teeth, walking off to the shielded bench plopping down. At least the others were also annoyed. Coach Kaina had her arms crossed shouting out to the team, watching the opponents movements. He leaned forward dragging his duffel bag out from under the bench to grab his water, catching a flash of his phone screen lighting up with messages.

He pulled back, sitting up straight with his water in hand, checking his surroundings. Catching everyone’s eyes on the girls as the next match began, looking back down at his opened bag. No one is allowed to be on your phone in a game especially with this team gunning it out for him… Touya moved his foot to slightly unfold his duffel bag. Partially uncovering his phone screen, still legible when sneaking his gaze down at the bright screen to read.

🕊️: EVERYONE SAW IT WAS A FAKE FALL

🕊️: YOU MADE THAT GOAL

🕊️: don’t be obvious

🕊️: I can see you reading my texts

🕊️: 👉💞👈

Touya felt a wave of heat wash over him, kicking his bag closed between his feet, crossing his legs, leaning back. Opening his water bottle to chug, hearing Kaina yell something out to the girls on the field. Resisting the urge to look around to find where Keigo was watching him from, he doesn’t need to know. It wasn’t important, he just had to be good at football and school for Fuyumi. The curiosity didn't stop him from trying to peak out of the corner of his eye to see if he could spot him.

Touya got called back in for the left wing, furthest away from Number 10 who kept using him to get carded. Somehow she manages to get behind him- which her former position shouldn’t have allowed. She was talking but he couldn’t seem to focus or understand what she was saying. Catching Usagiyama make eye contact, while she was blocked by three girls getting closer to her. Shaking his head realizing she’s going to pass to him- no!

It didn't stop her from kicking right at him, shoving back against the girl kicking at his calf’s. He thought the only person he would ever want to fight is his dad, but she’s putting herself high up on that list. He nudged the ball forward to put the smallest amount of distance between the ball and him, allowing it to roll. Not wanting to kick the girl and accidentally hurt her, he doesn’t get far but Number 10 couldn’t keep up with dribbling. He takes the chance to quickly pass upwards right back to Usagiyama, her being the only one to have a kick strong enough to make a shot. Which she does, sending it over everyone and past the goalie. Touya grins and wants to push the girl that’s been after and rubbing up against him since the beginning, he’s too old to be messed with like he’s a kid! However before he couldn’t do anything, Usagiyama jumped up grabbing his shoulders yelling at him.

“Fuyumi! We did it!”

He’s aware he’s started to hate being called Fuyumi, but Usagiyama has so much energy it’s contagious and her grip on him causes him to try and balance himself while she’s jumping. Rumi laughed, squeezing his face and arms, pointing at the players who ganged up on them.

“Look at this.” Touya elbows her lightly, sticking his fist out, slowly cranking it raising his middle finger. Hearing her holler out laughing sticking her tongue out, while the other team walked off the field. If he wasn’t pretending to be someone else, she seemed like a nice person to be friends with.

“Fuyumi! You’re so funny! They were such asses- lets go!” The older girl drags him back to the bench gathering their belongings while everyone ran to the locker rooms. Kaina congratulated them, giving a bit of a speech. Touya tried focusing but he was also trying to grab his phone from his bag, which was hard from Usagiyama keeping her arm wrapped around his neck. It’s meant to be in a playful way, but he can feel her bicep and forearm muscle. It wouldn’t take much for her to put him in a chokehold and pass out.

“Fuyumi. I wanna talk with you later, we’re all eating out right after showers. Wait for us!” She slapped his back but he coughed out the air she knocked out of him.

🕊️: CONGRATULATIONS

🕊️: are you finally going to celebrate?

🕊️: or try running home again?

🕊️: waiting outside if you wanna walk and talk

🕊️: HELLOOO 💐💐💐💐

🕊️: we are officially dating so I would like to put in a formal request for some one on one time alone please? 💐

It was Friday, his dad worked overnights until Saturday morning on Friday. Touya mused over the text, looked around seeing he was the only one left in the locker room, the girls music playing in the showers. Quietly grabbing his shoes from his locker, switching the cleats out, tossing them in his duffel bag heading out. Outside there were just a few people mingling around outside, mostly other students and parents who knew each-other talking.

“Finally! I thought you were going to run off again, hot stuff.”

“Not today. It’s Friday.”

“Right. At least I can confirm that you’ll actually stay around if I take you out on a Friday.” Touya hummed, nodding, looking around before grabbing the blonde's hand to hold. Feeling Keigo’s fingers go still, before curling around his own.

“All that talk and you get shy on me.”

“I told you I really like you! I’m trying to respect both our personal space and boundaries!”

“Okay, okay… you have my consent to hold my hand.” Touya teased, walking and dragging the blonde. Keigo in return unexpectedly starts running, pulling the other who hadn’t expected him to just launch off. Touya immediately planted his heels in the ground now that the tables were reversed.

“Hah! No offense, if you’re trying to race holding hands I’ll win! You’re pretty good at football but you’re not exactly the fastest.” He playfully swings their interlocked hands back and forth between them as they walk.

“Wow. I thought you were going to keep congratulating me while we held hands like the gentleman I thought you were, Keigo.”

“I am! I can carry you instead. We’re about the same height but I’m sure I have more muscle than you.”

“No.”

“Yumi! Fuyumi!” Keigo stops first, allowing Touya a moment to remember that’s him being called, turning around to see Rumi catching up to the two. “Where are you going? We’re all going out.”

“Ah, I have things to do.”

“Things?” The older girl questioned, giving an incredulous between the two at the hand holding. Touya surprises himself by not pulling his hand away, Fuyumi would. He shrugged at her instead.

“Hah. Yeah.” Usagiyama looks from Touya to Keigo with a slightly annoyed look. “I’ve got my eyes on you.” She points two of her fingers, from her face to the blondes, getting a quiet chuckle from Touya. “I’m still talking to you later, be safe!” She waved at them, returning back to the rest of the team getting dressed in the locker room.

“You still don’t celebrate with them?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Am I supposed to?” Touya questioned resuming the walk away from everyone, following the path to exit the field.

“Hah! Kind of, it’s just what teams do.”

“Well I wouldn’t know that. It’s my first time.”

“On a team?!”

“Yeah?”

“That’s crazy! How did you get on the team? This makes so much sense! Haha, you actually knock down the other girls to make goals.” Touya swiped his hand away from the other crossing his arms as they walk.

“You’ve lost a privilege.”

“No! I’m sorry! I like holding your hand, you’re so warm!”

Touya listened to the other complaint while walking to the closest convenience store. “Grab whatever you want.” He says grabbing a few drinks for himself, he didn’t need much. He was going to have to take over grocery shopping for Fuyumi soon, sometime over the weekend while she studied for an upcoming exam. Under the guise of being Touya, of course. Keigo only grabs a few snacks and multiple cans of coffee up to the register. “No food?”

“I’m good. You don’t have to buy everything for me.”

“I’m not, my dad is.” Touya corrects, flashing the weighted credit card, handing it to the man at the register, sliding, handing it back over with the purchases in bags.

“Well, I don’t want to waste your dads money.”

“You should, it’s what he deserves.” He grinned handing Keigo his bag, who walked ahead to hold the door open for the football player. Already opening the blue colored electrolyte drink, leaning back as he walked drinking it. “What did you want to do? You seem to always want to do something together.”

“Erm. We can… go to the park?” Touya purses his lips giving a sideways glance biting the inside of his cheek. He just came from a field filled with people, running around, were they supposed to swing together?

“You gonna climb a tree for me?”

“If that’s what you want, oh- let’s lay in the grass!”

Crap… He was kind of cute.

“Okay.”

They did end up walking to one of the parks that was close by, across from a shopping center that was slowing down. Touya sent a few texts to Fuyumi not to lock him out of the house completely. He’d be home late. “Why do you like those History and Government classes so much?”

“They’re interesting.” Touya answered, watching Keigo let himself slide down a steep dip in the grass. Touya sees he should’ve kept his cleats on, bending his knees digging his heels in the grass sliding down. Swiping at the hand the blonde offered out to him.

“Just trying to be a gentleman.”

“By having me fall on my ass.”

“I offered a helping hand, you also already did that today during the football game. Oh! I got a couple of videos of you playing!” Keigo grinned, tossing the plastic bag down on the ground walking over. Digging his hands in the pant pockets of his school uniform, pulling his phone out of the back pocket.

“I’d rather not see it.” Touya shook his head pulling at his duffel bag, dropping it next to the others bag. Allowing himself to squat down before lying back on the bag, using it as a make-shift pillow to lay down comfortably on the ground.

“That’s no fun. I swear it looks better than what you might be thinking.” Keigo assured scooting closer holding his phone out, the football player pushed the phone away. “Agh! Fine. I’m sending them to you later.”

“Keigo, I’d rather you not take pictures and videos of me.” He stated, observing the blonde's reaction. Touya hadn’t considered people taking pictures or videos of him during games. School photos were next semester when Fuyumi would return to her original place. Any pictures of him with the football team or others in school- it leaves a trace of him at the school.

“Sorry… I didn’t know. I won’t do it again.” Keigo released a shaky breath, pulling out one of the coffee cans from the plastic bag. Popping it opened, sipping from it looking down at Touya from the corner of his eye. “Your hair looks nice.”

“Thank you. I think you’ve said that before… yours too.” Touya shifts, rolling his ankle. “Do you just sit outside a lot?”

“Mmm, sometimes. My mom gets home late, she’s busy.”

Touya hums, sliding his hands into his shorts pocket. “My moms in a mental facility.” Too much information? It’s true, it’s not just about Fuyumi. His siblings and him all share the same mom, so it’s not an extreme thing to say about your mom. It’s their dads fault, Rei had been in there for almost 3 years.

“Oh… I’m sorry..”

“It’s fine, my dad pays for it. It’s one of those expensive ones that have flowers and a gift shop up front.” Well, it’s not fine. They’re not allowed to see her because they need someone over 18 to be eligible for visitation. Or until their dad lifts that rule.

“My mom just got custody of me.” Touya tilts his head at the blonde, his finger tapping the rim of the aluminum coffee can.

“Do you like her?”

“Yeah.”

“So it’s a good thing.”

“I guess so, I prefer to be with her.”

“Hah!” Keigo snapped his head hearing the other bark out, kicking his side lightly. “If we’re gonna have a trauma dump session lay down, you wanted us to lay in the grass.”

Keigo pouts, suppressing a smile from the confident look on the other's face. Tilting his head back to finish off the rest of the coffee in the can, now empty, placing it back in the plastic bag before scooting closer to the other. Todoroki just moves away making room on the bulk duffel bag to lay against, patting it down. “Are we playing pity Olympics?”

“Sure. Let me think…” Touya looks around trying to find something good to remember. “Oh, last time I was in a park my dad caught me smoking.”

“You smoke!?”

“I was just trying it. There was a guy in the last public school I went to who found his dads stash. We went to a park in the middle of the night where the cops found us. My dad was so mad, he pulled me out of that school and threw me in a private school. Turns out, the kids there are way worse. I got invited to a party where they had a lot of heavy stuff. I left right after that. I just wanted to experiment a little, not join the rich kid social club.”

Keigo blinked at the other surprised. “That- hardly counts as a pity party…” Touya scoffed and lightly shoved the blonde beside him, receiving a soft laugh in return. “Okay. My turn, I joined baseball so I could get a scholarship for University... I know it’s going to be a struggle for me after school. I know my mom can’t afford it, she barely affords what she has now. But-! When I get to University I want to get into Science or Law, but if that doesn’t work out I want to be a pilot to fly around.”

“Ah… I see where your pity is, but you’re more so giving me a vague run down of your plan for the future.”

“Yeah, but I still have a much sadder story than you so far. I’m broke, you’re rich”

“Mm… Fine, I'll give you the win on that one.”

“Todoroki?”

“Hm?” Touya sits up reaching over to his drink, unscrewing the cap listening to Keigo.

“Why don’t you answer to your name?”

Crap.

Lie. Lie. Lie.

“Huh?” Touya shrugs, shaking his head, crossing his legs. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“Fuyumi.”

“…”

“Fuyumi.”

“What?” Touya bites back a little too much even for his liking, opening his drink back up, allowing himself to roll his eyes.

“Do you not like your name?”

“It’s fine.”

“It’s fine?”

“It’s a fine name.” Touya is a much better name, but for obvious reasons he can’t say that.

“I don’t have to call you that if you don’t want me to.” Keigo sits up, crossing his legs, sensing the other wasn’t going to lie back down with him.

“Then don’t.” Touya doesn’t know why he was getting so emotional over this. He had a grossly warm bubbling feeling in his chest, churning and dripping down inside. Drinking the electrolyte drink to subdue whatever he was coming down with, he doesn’t get to have anything for himself as Fuyumi.

“That’s fine. I won’t call you that. Can I keep calling you Todoroki?”

“…that sounds extremely formal.”

“Haha… yes, being formal sucks… but I would like the person who agreed to date me, be comfortable with me using their name. If you prefer your last over your first, I don’t mind.” Keigo scoots up to see the others face, hugging his legs. Blue eyes squinting at Keigo, but Todoroki’s skin is pale enough that the light coming from the moon that he can see traces of pink from the cheeks to the ear.

“… you’re very considerate… I’d rather you call me ‘hot shit’ again.”

“Haha! It’s ‘hot stuff’!”

“Same thing.”

“It’s not, but whatever floats your hot shit boat.” Touya choked out a laugh at that, pulling the electrolyte drink away from his mouth he was about to sip from. Keigo feeling his smile widen as the tension between them disappeared. “Hah! Alright fun question. Besides the boring subjects you like. Were there any fun classes you liked? Even from that rich kid private school you were in?”

Touya screws the cap of his beverage back on, Keigo obviously attempting to lighten his sour mood Touya created between the two. Pondering on the idea of being in a park so late, reminding him of the reason his dad had thrown him in private school. He had actually met the guys who he was caught smoking with, through a girl in an extra curricular activity. “Dance.”

“You dance?!” Keigo’s grin widen tilting his head to the side to allow a better look at the others face, feeling a warm hand lightly shove him.

“Everyone can dance, it was a fun and easy class.”

“Ahh, I see. I don’t dance so I wouldn’t know.”

“That’s too bad.”

Notes:

If you’re curious about the songs the first one is sex by marina and masturbate by blegh.

Ended up so self indulgent I made a playlist for this au.
Here’s my carrd if anyone’s interested.
