Chapter Text
It was in the middle of the afternoon when Yoongi felt a tap on his shoulder that jolted him awake from the couch in his studio. He has always been a light sleeper and on most days he would be grumpy towards anyone, except maybe Seokjin, for breathing in his space while he’s sleeping. He would normally lash out on anyone that dares touch him while he takes his essential power nap in his studio. But to his surprise, he finds nothing but his empty studio completely void of another person.
“You have an electronic lock, a reinforced door, and a god damned doorbell, genius.” He mumbled to himself while lightly slapping himself awake from what he assumed was just him dreaming. Yoongi was still a little drowsy when his phone started to vibrate in his pocket. It’s probably the first time he’s thankful for a phone call as he can’t possibly get back to work still languid. Unfortunately, the gratitude only lasted for a second because the moment Yoongi picked up, he wished phones were never invented.
“Yoongi.” Seokjin’s annoyed tone is something the rapper is very familiar with. He has heard it many times when he stays up too late in the studio and forgets to eat. He has heard it when he promises to wash the dishes but ends up not doing so.
“Hyung, I-“ he lets out but was interrupted by the clock on his desk. He’s been asleep for 3 hours. Shit.
“We’re leaving. We waited for you to come home so we can at least say goodbye but some of us have flights to catch.”
“I’m so sorry, hyung. I didn’t realize my nap, well, it didn’t turn out to be just a nap. I’ll make up for it I promise.”
“You’re lucky I’m gonna be blowing off steam at my parent’s house. Just... go home, babe. At least spend Chuseok sleeping at an actual bed.” Seokjin’s tone softening.
“I will, hyung. I’ll be fine. Joon will be home for dinner anyway. Have fun! Say hi to your parents for me, okay?”
“I’ll send you a message when I get there. Rest up. And Yoongi,” the older pauses and Yoongi hears him breathe out a deep sigh “please be careful.”
He didn’t have to ask to know what his roommate was talking about. He’s skeptic, of course–he had always believed that nothing is scarier than the living–but he’s definitely more worried than scared. For about a week now, Yoongi has seen his partner stuff the bags under his eyes with lack of sleep or a very messed up sleeping pattern. This fact bothers Yoongi more than he shows not because he’s showing a cold front but he was asked to. Seokjin had always been admirable for having his shit together and takes pride in that. What do you expect from a guy that likes the jungle a little too much? He recalled. Seeing his lover shaken up by something Yoongi doesn’t know anything about aside from the stories he’s told is frustrating.
Yoongi packs up his laptop, disappointed at himself for not being able to say goodbye to his friends. He wondered why he slept for that long when he has always had full control of his naps. “I really need a break, huh?”
Their dorm has never been this quiet but with the members gone to their families for the holidays; Yoongi can almost hear the hands of the clocks go around. On normal days, when Yoongi goes home, with the sun still up that is, Taehyung’s and Jimin’s voices would fill the hallways. Sometimes it’s Jungkook who’s either screaming at his computer monitor or bickering with Seokjin or both at the same time. Namjoon’s usually quiet like him but there are days when he gets excited about something, books and figurines to be specific, and won’t shut up about it. Hoseok, surprisingly, isn’t all that noisy contrary to the public image he’s put on. He’s usually reserved but, on occasion, is very giggly when he’s playing with the younger members. Yoongi is used to the silence in his studio but home is different when it’s quiet and he misses the noise already.
Luckily for him, the problem of codependency isn’t his struggle to carry alone. Seokjin messaged him constantly complaining about how his mom keeps beating him in Mario Kart or missing Yoongi. Taehyung asked him if he wants anything from Daegu. Jimin sent him a video of the sea in Busan and a picture of Jungkook with a seagull. Hoseok simply texted him in Jeolla satoori that made him laugh at how it both sounded informal and stern. Namjoon sent him messages as well, mostly talking about how he already broke a plate 30 minutes upon arrival and if he wants some of the home-cooked meals for dinner. It didn’t need much for Yoongi to feel less lonely in their two-story home.
To be fair, Yoongi doesn’t have a lot of hobbies. His hobby is his work and no other recreational activity can compare to it. But it feels like he has done everything there is to do but merely four hours passed. He called his parents to wish them a fruitful Chuseok and to apologize for not visiting only to get an insult about his height as a response. He tried fixing everything Namjoon has wrecked in their house, which surprisingly isn’t a lot. He even fixed the broken totem Seokjin brought back from the Philippines in hopes of helping put his roommate at ease even a bit. It didn’t take long, as he really just needed to glue the wooden shield back to the small statue. He did the laundry and washed the dishes, to which Seokjin Skyped him to see for his own eyes.
“I can’t believe I’m missing out on this miracle. Can you do this again when I’m home?"
“If you think I’m not going to kink shame you just because you’re my boyfriend, you’re wrong.”
Seokjin’s laugh echoed through the screen into their empty dorm. “Shut up. I like domestic Yoongi. Aprons, dishwashing gloves, and all.”
“Unfortunately for you, this is a one time thing. I’m just really really bored.”
“Right. You’re never bored when I’m at home.” Seokjin said followed with a wink.
Yoongi felt a blush creep up on his cheeks and it’s amazing how his boyfriend of 3 years can still make him feel flustered. “Jesus, hyung.” He chuckled while shaking his head.
Seokjin cracks up with his signature squeaky laugh. “You know, I thought you’d be more open-minded about kinks considering–“ the video was cut off by a pop up indicating bad network connection. Yoongi turned it off and as soon as the call was dropped his phone lit up with a text notification by his roommate.
[Jinnie Jin!!!]
“Uh, is everything okay, Yoongi?”
[Yoongichi~]
“Just bad wi-fi connection, hyung. Everything’s fine.”
[Jinnie Jin!!!]
If you say so. Text me or call me when you need anything, ok?”
[Yoongichi~]
“Ok, Jin Possible. Lol”
[Jinnie Jin!!!]
“Ha ha, so funny! Wow. Amazing. Spectacular. Talented. Never been done before.
[Yoongichi~]
“Let me live, damn.”
[Jinnie Jin!!!]
“But seriously, call me or text me when you need anything. Even if you don’t.”
[Yoongichi~]
“Got it. Enjoy your holiday, hyung. Don’t stress too much.”
Yoongi ended up watching Scarface for the nth time to pass the time when he ran out of house chores he actually liked doing. Not even fifteen minutes into the film, he felt his eyelids become heavy and himself losing focus on his laptop screen. He let himself fall asleep with headphones still in his ears like how he’s used to, using the movie’s dialogue as background noise.
His breathing was only starting to even out when he heard a blood curling screech pierce through his headphones. For the amount of times he watched Scarface, he was sure it didn’t come from the movie he put on. “Namjoon-ah?” He still asked even though he already had a hunch that a sound like that can only be inhuman. “Joon?” He repeated, almost praying that he’d speak his friend into presence. Something moved in the corner and Yoongi was hopeful, maybe it was his bandmate, but hope only lasted for a second when his neck stiffened as he tries to turn on the direction where he sensed movement. When he managed to turn a little, he was faced with the red lights of their digital clock, three a.m. He was at a loss until he remembered Seokjin and how his lover would stir in the middle of the night and curl closer to him; a sudden pang of guilt hits his chest.
He felt the hairs on his arm and legs stand up along with the ringing in his ears. He growled as he endured the sharp pain in his temples. He held his head between his hands as if his neck was about to break off in an instant and scrambled to get up from his bed.
The hallway seems longer looking from the door of their room. Everything was a blur but one thing stood out to Yoongi as he steadied himself on the wall. “Is that...?” He managed to say, nearly choking on air as he fails to recognize the handicraft he fixed earlier. The state the figurine was unbelievable to Yoongi; it was even more broken than before, crushed into debris and some parts of it were burned off, a small pile of ashes beside it as proof. His vision becomes shaky and it feels like an earthquake that’s only happening in his head.
Maybe it was panic finally sinking in or it was a completely different enemy, he’s leaning towards the latter. He struggled to move his legs forward and no sound will come out of his mouth. Yoongi fell down as soon as he passes the door’s frame with his knees crashing on the floor. His hands left the side of his head and held tight on the railings, supporting himself up so he doesn’t stumble down the staircase. He wanted to run but it seemed like his entire body can only take one movement per minute. Yoongi’s way to their front door downstairs felt like an eternity of his mind just dragging his deadweight.
When Yoongi reached the end of the staircase, he regretted all those times he refused to go to church with his mother. He wished he knew at least one prayer, not that he thinks it will save him, but it beats having nothing. His vision was even worse than it was upstairs; everything he saw was painted a tint of red, blood-like, and his head felt like an anchor, dragging his body down. He tried to support his head again but his arms are practically glued to his side and his knees and shin to the floor.
If Yoongi didn’t believe in gods before, he surely was convinced now. With his vision tinted and unsteady, he saw the knob of the front door shake and even with ringing still in his ears, he heard the lock click.
Namjoon was going through the plastic bag he’s carrying while simultaneously trying to put the keys in his pockets. “Hyung!” he shouts, completely unaware of Yoongi on the floor. “I’m sorry I had to run to a convenience store. I mean, it’s still dinner so–"
“Joon.” Yoongi cut off his friend, possibly using all the energy he had left to get his attention.
“Oh my god, hyung. Your ears… oh my god” Namjoon said in a panic, hurrying to Yoongi’s side.
Yoongi finally felt his limbs being free and put his hand up to the side of his head. It felt wet but definitely thicker than water. He knew what it was without looking at the stain it left on his fingers when he touched it. The last thing he remembers was Namjoon’s right arm reinforcing him and the sound of a phone's dial tone before he saw complete darkness.
