Chapter Text
“Hey, B?” Kirishima’s voice rang through the apartment.
“The hell do you want now?” Bakugou called back as he shrugged off his winter coat hanging it by the door.
Bakugou could hear feet pounding down the halls. He also heard Kirishima trip halfway and had to bite down a smile as he poked his head around the corner. He had his hair pulled back into a loose bun that still left a good amount of hair free to fall around his face. Bakugou just shook his head.
“Oh my god, don’t you dare start laughing I need your help.” There was a laughter of his own behind the words no matter how pleading or stern Kirishima wanted to sound in the moment.
Raising one of his eyebrows, Bakugou toed off his shoes before stepping up and onto the hardwood of the apartment floor.
“Please?” Kirishima whined, grabbing Bakugou by the waist and pulling him close enough that he couldn’t look away from the puppy eyes Kirishima was so unabashedly making.
Bakugou hated those puppy eyes, “Damn, fine. Just… stop with the eyes. I swear.”
“Thank you!” Beamed Kirishima before he gave Bakugou a chaste kiss against his temple before turning away to rattle on about his probably mundane issue.
It had only been a little longer than a month and a half or so but Kirishima acted like they’d been together for years. In some ways, they had been. While he was a little too touchy for Bakugou’s general preference he didn’t mind. For the most part, their routine had stayed the same over the course of their privately official relationship.
That part had been a big decision for the two. Kirishima had said he didn’t mind everything being open to the public, it was a good representation. It wasn’t like Bakugou was ashamed of anything or afraid to put it out there, he just didn’t want Kirishima or himself to end up defined by their relationship. Besides if the news and tabloids were anything to go by, hero relationships never lasted long in the public eye.
Bakugou would be damned if he didn’t milk this for all it was worth.
He wanted to savor every morning he had to wrestle himself out of Kirishima’s tight grip. Every sloppy morning kiss while one of them hung off the shoulders of the other while they made breakfast. The warmth they shared beneath blankets as they sipped coffee together on the couch. Even down to the daily calls when Kirishima got off work or the other way around.
The only drastic change that had befallen them, or rather Kirishima, was the conclusion of the limited time pumpkin spice coffee. He had moped about the apartment for days. Though sometimes when Kirishima came home, coffee in hand, he would have a specialty latte from Akari. But that was rare and saved for those not so good days that came with the job description.
Bakugou wouldn’t change any of it.
So he, not so begrudgingly as he made it sound, shuffled after Kirishima only half registering what he was saying. He knew it had to do with their week worth vacation that they were leaving for tomorrow. Bakugou had been packed for the better part of a week while Kirishima had been freaking out over everything.
Kirishima ducked into what had been Bakugou’s room before Kirishima had slowly assimulated his stuff with everything. Kirishima’s room was more like an at home gym more than ever. As much as Bakugou enjoyed the sleeping company he didn’t find Kirishima’s mess charming.
Bakugou sighed as he scanned the mess of clothes and misfit items that scoured the floor and bed.
“Okay so hear me out,” Kirishima continued to ramble as he frantically shifted through his mess finally pulling out a bag that had a bow on the side. Bakugou sighed again. “Hey, stop that I’m trying to be nice here. Do you think your mom will like it?”
Grabbing the bag and pulling it towards himself, Bakugou glanced at the set of candles that were placed carefully within the confines of the red tissue paper. Kirishima had found a way to get whatever fall candles were left in stores into the present.
“I already told you, the hag doesn’t care what you get her,” Bakugou shoved the present back into Kirishima’s arms, “Besides she’ll smother you just for showing up.”
Shoulder sagging Kirishima sighed, “I’m just really nervous.”
“Why?” Bakugou scoffed falling back onto the bed, “Not like they hate you.”
“You don’t know that.” Kirishima countered.
“Please, the hag practically thinks you’re her better son already.”
“Don’t say that kind of stuff about yourself.”
“It true,” Shrugged Bakugou as he watched Kirishima through half-lidded eyes.
Kirishima let out a sigh on his own as he gingerly set down his present, “I for one think you're pretty great.”
“Really now?” Bakugou teased, but really it came out as more of a scoff.
“Mhm,” Kirishima nodded climbing over Bakugou so that he was straddling his hips, “For one, you’re like insanely strong.”
Kirishima was running his hands over Bakugou’s arms with every word. The warmth felt nice. The slow ministrations of Kirishima’s fingers over his sore muscles. Bakugou grumbled but didn’t move to push Kirishima away.
“Not to mention,” he was saying, “hot. Your personality sucks sometimes but I love it. Oh, like when you're grumpy in the morning and everything you say comes out like a low growl,” Kirishima was smiling softly, “ it's so cute.”
Bakugou huffed, blowing a stray hair from his face, “You can’t call me hot and cute at the same time.”
“But you are,” Kirishima beamed pressing their foreheads together.
“Idiot.” Bakugou breathed in a tone that was anything but insulting.
Kirishima planted a slow kiss to the corner of Bakugou’s mouth, “I’m your idiot now.”
Bakugou responded by wrapping his arms around Kirishima’s waist and flipping him over so that his back was flush against the mattress. He buried his head in Kirishima’s chest as he hugged him close. Kirishima smelt like coffee and the lingering scent of his cologne.
“As much as I would love to cuddle, I still have to pack.” Mumbled Kirishima between quick pecks to the top of Bakugou’s head.
The blonde just grumbled releasing Kirishima enough so that he could sit up but just as quickly wrapping his legs around his waist. A smug satisfaction passed through him as Kirishima grumbled. To his credit, Kirishima managed to finish throwing his clothes into his suitcase even with Bakugou doing his best to distract him.
It didn’t last long since they still had to make dinner. Bakugou was tired from work so he did all he could to get out of helping. It was all to no avail though he did manage to convince Kirishima to eat in the living room so he could fall asleep before Kirishima got the chance to make him do the dishes.
He was exhausted from thinking about having to deal with his parents again. Not to mention the weeks worth of paperwork he had to preemptively finish so he could justifiably take the week off. They’d be back in the apartment for Christmas but it had been decided that they would spend the pre-holiday with Bakugou’s family.
Kirishima was as nervous as he was excited. Bakugou, well Bakugou just wanted to sleep the week away. He might get away with it for a day or so when they arrived if he could find a way to sleep on the train but he doubted he’d be able to sleep around all the strangers. Not that he wouldn’t try.
Despite all of his grievances, Bakugou wasn’t as distraught as he would have everyone believe he was about spending the week at his parents. He was planning on bringing Kirishima out on a walk through the snow if not for the quiet then the privacy of just being next to each other.
No, it wouldn’t be all bad.
He could wake Kirishima up to see the stars. Not like the ones that painted the night sky as they did in the city but real stars that glittered in the almost dawn of the morning sky. They could watch the sunrise while sipping from cups of homemade coffee.
Bakugou smiled to himself, it wouldn’t be bad at all.
“Long day then?’ Kirishima whispered as he gently brushed Bakugou’s hair back with his calloused hands, “I can carry you to bed unless you’d rather try to shower first.”
Bakugou had does off long enough for Kirishima to do the dishes. His hands were soft and still warm with the heat of the water. Bakugou didn’t mind the faint smell of dish soap that wafted through his nose every time Kirishima’s had come back to brush another hair away from his face.
Bakugou just blinked dumbly back at Kirishima’s crimson eyes.
“Bed it is.”
It was moments like these that Bakugou was reminded of how good of a hero Kirishima was. The way he picked up his near limp body and carried him with a firmness that wasn’t too overbearing. The way his voice just soothed him deeper into the weariness that was creeping over his body. Despite all the grumbling, Bakugou made he didn’t falter.
He was amazing.
“Be my hero partner,” Bakugou said, or at least he thought he did.
It made perfect sense, them together. Kirishima was the calm to Bakugou’s storm. In rescue scenarios, Kirishima was the perfect match to level out Bakugou’s limited quirk capabilities in those situations. Not to mention that Bakugou would trust Kirishima to have his back completely.
He’d been pestering Kirishima about it for years. While he’d always meant it he never asked at perhaps the most opportune moments. Though through his sleepy delirium he had never been more serious.
“Kiri,” Bakugou whined as the mattress hit his back.
“If you remember it in the morning, we can talk about it. Okay?” Mumbled Kirishima as he curled around Bakugou’s side.
“I’ll give you double what Fat Gum does.” Bakugou attempted to plead
Kirishima laughed into the nape of his neck, “You don’t have to bribe me.”
“But I want you, Kirishima.” Bakugou groaned as he turned over to face his boyfriend taking his face in his hands, “Just say yes.”
Maybe it was the look on Bakugou’s face or the way he stared so intently into Kirishima’s eyes, but he broke. He let out a defeated sigh into the darkness of the room. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Kirishima wrapped one of Bakugou’s hands with his own and leaned into the touch, “Hmm… I’ll do it on one condition.”
“ Anything .”
“You,” Kirishima punctuated the word by pulling Bakugou closer to him, “have to stay with me for all the years we have left. You stay mine and mine only. Also, I never have to do the dishes in the morning. Those are my terms.”
Bakugou was doing his best to hold Kirishima’s gaze even with the weight pulling down on his eyelids, “That all? Sounds a hell of a lot like a proposal, shitty hair.”
“S’ not. In a few months or a year from now maybe but as of this moment… I’ll take this.” He pressed a small kiss against Bakugou palm that had Bakugou burying his face into Kirishima's chest.
“Fucking fine.”
“I don’t think I heard you.”
“I said,” Bakugou growled, “yes. Now Let me go the fuck to sleep already.”
“Whatever you want, I’m yours,” Kirishima mumbled into Bakugou’s hair as he drew their blanket over them and the two other Kirishima insisted on having.
There was something about the nights now that seemed quieter. Not in the eerie or ominous way, the night had turned into for Bakugou but in the way where it seemed like the city too needed a break every now and again. Everything was settled.
Bakugou took in even and steady breaths. He felt Kirishima’s arms tighten around him and he sunk into the touch. He’d never say it out loud but he relished every second he got to spend just like this, safe.
Bakugou loved it.
In retrospect, he had almost everything he could have ever asked for. He was running his own agency with the best partner in the business, that partner was now his for as long as he would have him. If it was up to Bakugou, they’d spend the rest of eternity just as they were.
They’d drink coffee together after a long day of work. There would be stupid movies on the TV that Kirishima loved too much even though they were made of cheesy storylines. On an odd day, they’d have take out and savor not having to cook.
Every now and again they would inevitably fight. That wasn’t something Bakugou could completely ignore, he knew he’d instigate most of them. He’d try though, to be better even though it might not work all the time.
He was Bakugou fucking Katsuki, he never half-assed anything.
So he’d take today, and then the week to come. He’d take them as they came, step by step, and make of them what he could. He’d deal with his parents with the snide looks his mom would send over the dinner table. He’d take on the world if it meant he could come back home, to the apartment he shared, every day and have nights like these.
The days will change so and so will the seasons. Fall freezes into winter as winter thaws into spring. Bakugou would change, has changed, and so would Kirishima for better or for worse. They’d keep changing slowly, for all the time they had left.
Bakugou couldn’t wait.
