Chapter Text

The sheriff came back into his office as Stiles was on his phone, feet up on the desk (carefully avoiding any of his fathers files) and elbows resting on the arms of the chair behind his dad’s desk. His dad raised an eyebrow seeing his son in his spot behind his desk and gestured with his right hand;

“Yeah no, please do sit. Make yourself at home, would you like some coffee?” he said sarcastically, showing just where his son got his personality.

Stiles lifted his head off of his chest where it had been resting while he was staring at his phone and raised both his brows, he stood up quickly but silently and made his way around the desk. The sheriff quickly noticed the weird behaviour and made a comment on it.

“Come on, the only time you’re this quiet is when you’re up to something- so out with it”

Stiles furrowed his eyebrows and licked his lips as he tucked his phone back into the pocket of his plaid shirt. As he started speaking his hands gestured wildly and uncontrollably “Who were them men? It’s just I couldn’t help but see their emblem on their shoulders and on the file on your desk, it rang a bell but I couldn’t remember what it was so I tried looking it up only to find that it’s secret government information- I have a bad feeling about them you know? We should ask around and see if anyone else knows anyth-”

He was cut off by his dad’s silent raise of the hand, his clicked his mouth shut mid sentence as his dad stared at his with a mixture of exasperation and fondness in his gaze. “They work for the government kiddo, that's probably why you couldn’t find anything about them online. They’re here to look into the ‘deaths’ going on and the” he leaned in slightly and lowered his voice to a whisper “the chimeras running around”

Stiles didn’t look convinced but he didn’t want to cause his dad any more worry, he might ask his uncle about it later- the perks of being related to someone not afraid to hack into the government. As if his dad had read his mind while he was thinking about his uncle his dad sat down in his chair heavily and said,

“But hey, your uncle is coming to visit”

A surprised expression overcame his face “Really? Why would he be coming here? He hasn’t visited since mom died”

He didn’t blame his uncle for not visiting, not only was he devastated by his mother's death but he was a world renowned man that couldn’t go three metres without having the press on his tail.
“He and his team” There was an emphasis on the word team which Stiles automatically understood to be the freaking Avengers “are investigating something in California and apparently their case is close to home so they’re going to visit.”

“Wait. They? As in his whole team is coming here? Not just him?”

The sheriff sighed slightly and shook his head “He didn’t say, you know how he is- a lover of surprises unfortunately. Anyway I’ve got work to do so unless the matter you wanted to talk to me about originally can’t wait I’d rather talk at home”

Stiles shook his head quickly, giving a smile before handing his dad his lunch “Nope. Nothing too important, just making sure you get your daily fibre intake and not too much fat of course”

His dad groaned as he saw the salad and tofu in the box, Stiles almost skipped out of his office calling over his shoulder “Bye pops!”

Stiles got into his baby and turned the keys in the ignition. The engine stalled and for a moment Stiles’ stomach dropped like a stone until the engine finally roared to life. He pulled out of the police station’s parking lot and onto the main road and made his way to his house. A short five minutes later the jeep spluttered and Stiles groaned before pulling over to the side of the road. As the car stopped he rested his head against the steering wheel for a while- swearing under his breath as he did. His eyes were closed so he didn’t notice the approaching lights until they shined through the windows of the jeep unnaturally close.

He looked up to see a black unmarked van coming at him from the other side of the t-junction he had stopped at- and the van didn’t look close to stopping. He only had a moment to widen his eyes and think “oh shit” before the jeep was slammed into and the car was knocked off of the road and into the tree line.

A tree broke through the window next to his head and knocking him back into his seat, the van that had hit him looked unharmed for the most part from what he could see through blurred eyes, his ears ringing. He could feel blood rushing down his face from a gash on his forehead- it leaked into his eyes making his vision tint pink. The broken glass pricked his neck a moment later; the sudden pain making him hiss and a moment later -as if connected to the pain in his neck- he quickly lost consciousness.
