Ground Zero: The legend of seven seas

Chapter 10

Summary:

We get a look at the crew's back ground and....
yes... Bakugou finally man up his feeling but they hurt.

Notes:

Oh god this took so long. It fought with me to be written maybe because it has so many extra scenes and dialogues. not to mention full of emotions and angst. I'm not really good at them so it took me a lot of drowning myself in my old romance movie and sad songs.
one of them was:
If you wanna - Alexey Lisin & Alexandra Pride
hope you like it...
I will return after I kick my exams' ass or the other way around.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

It wasn’t until that night that Shouto got the real test of a pirate’s life. It was wild in its true nature and surprisingly full of life.

The crew had planned a little celebration for his successful rescue and Bakugou hadn’t dismissed the idea on spot so his crew had taken that as his agreement and planned the whole thing in the span of few hours.

Kaminari appearing with drinks in his hand as Jirou started playing a foreign instrument skillfully. After that it doesn’t take the rest of the crew to light up the underdeck with singing along with the music and dancing in weird moves far different from the ones he was thought behind the castle’s closed doors. They were barely synced with the music’s rhythms and they definitely had no patterns just moving with drunken instincts, but the wide smiles on their faces and loud laughter filling the space every time someone had tripped over their own feet, or continuous cheers piercing through the air after someone had pulled off a stupidly dangerous move with their weapon, made it up for all of his out of place feeling and brought a soft smile to his lips too.

The other thing making his smile even deeper is the pair currently dancing in each other’s arms laughing wholeheartedly as the stumble back and forth. The red head one gazing so lovingly at the shorter blond as he tries to keep up with the other’s fast spins. The blond leaving cresses on every inch of the other’s skin under the disguise of holding onto him during their dance.

The sight was so sweet he couldn’t stop himself from smiling at them even more.

His heart though, aches with longing for something even he didn’t know of.

He denied it to focus more on the little celebration for him.

Something was missing as he stood at the corner with a barely touched drink in his hand.

He turned his gaze around the room aimlessly searching for what was missing in his eye.

The dancing was subdued due to slower music which caused the first round of gambling game to sparkle… by the pink head girl of course.

He wasn’t participating though. He was tired from all of those dancing lessons he received from Aoyama, but he kept an eye on the game. The purple dwarf was wrapped in ropes by that Sero guy who won him over in the first round.

Shouto didn’t protest against the extreme action because he saw him trying to grope Mina when she was dancing and half drunk. So no sympathy for that pervert tonight.

Looking around again he spotted a certain red head coming his way with an extra drink in his hand.

He lifted his own drink to indicate he hasn’t finished it yet but found it empty!

When that happened?

Kirishima let out a genuine smile that followed by low chuckles, drawing his gaze back to the drink that was held out for him. he took it without any protest.

When the red head sat beside him he finally found what was missing… Bakugou!

“He went to take over the helm half way through the dancing.” Apparently he was thinking out loud or Kirishima was good at mind reading.

He hummed in reply and took a sip from his drink.

“You know him the longest right?” Kirishima was taken back by his sudden question but soon flashed him with one of his fondest smiles.

“Yeah we go all the way back to UA’s royal navy. But it doesn’t make the rest of the crew any less important to him. he cares about all of them…” he is cut off by a tied up dwarf rolling around in misery. “Well most of them.” The red head corrects himself making the prince release a muffled chuckle.

“He sure does. In his own angry ways.” He confirms and takes a look at the crew’s wide smiles. His own lips stretches unconsciously. “How did you come together anyway?” he asks then.

“Oh. That is one hell of a long story.” Kirishima says and lets out a fond laugh. This makes Shouto that much more curious. “I’m all ears.”

The redhead smiled wider and put his drink away.

“So here we go… which one do you want to hear first?” he asked and stares at him.

“Um… I don’t know. Maybe Kaminari?” he said unsure if he is prying in something personal but the glowing stars in the other eyes tells him otherwise.

“Oh. Denki. He was the first one who joined the crew. You see it’s not that easy to find trustworthy crew and Bakugou sure did pay the price to have every one of our full trust.” He then points at the blond in question. “Denki was a famous thief back in the eastern harbor. You wouldn’t notice when you got robbed and you wouldn’t know who did it. We were there to recruit our crew. He tried to steal from us but Bakugou noticed him. I tried to chase him down but he had the speed of lightning. When I came back Bakugou had tracked his living-about from the people although not without being a few coins more generous than necessary.” He shook his head and tried to hide his smile like Bakugou would kick his ass if he was here. “He cursed all the way to the place we were directed at. Saying what he would do to the bastard if he gets his hand on him. but when we got there we were faced with thugs’ layout. Taking cover, we watched from distance as they dragged the blond guy who had stolen from us. He was tied up and bruised when they made him kneel in front of the seemingly thug leader. He slapped the blond boy while screaming about not bringing enough money to save his ass but I was sure it was enough coins in my bag to please the asshole thug. That was when I heard the other thugs that were closer to us talking about the blond stupid fondness toward the orphan kids on the street and splitting his prizes with them so nothing is left for himself.” He said looking at the said blond, screaming at the other for ganging up on him in the game, with clear affection. “I couldn’t let a kind heart like his gets beaten up for doing the simplest noble thing in the worst possible situation. So I walked up to the leader ignoring Bakugou’s curses following me. Denki paled at the sight of me but I smile at him before punching the bastard right in the face. After that everything went down fast. Thankfully Bakugou was with me and we could take down most of them without that much trouble and the rest of them had run off to save themselves. When I turned around the blond thief wasn’t there either. Bakugou found what was left from our money and I started to tie the knocked out thugs for the guards to find them with all sort of stolen object around them.” His smile faded into a sad one as he continued. “I let my guard down for a moment and the bastard I thought I had knocked out with that first punch launched at me with his long blade. The only thing I heard was Bakugou shouting my name when I turned around. The next thing I knew was something moving by the speed of lightning, pulling itself between me and the blade made for my neck.” He let out a heavy breath as he fisted his hand to stop them from shaking. “He could have run and finally be free. But he came back to take the death stroke for me. I was shocked to the bone and all I could do was catching his bloody frame before it crashes to the ground. Bakugou took the guy down next but I wasn’t paying attention. He was dying in my arm, because of me, and he was smiling at me while bleeding from the wound on his side. His first words to me was ‘Hey stranger. What’s your name?’ I couldn’t believe it. He was on the verge of dying but he was wasting his last life force on asking my name with that broken but still beautiful voice of his. I couldn’t deny him his answer so I told him my name; all while trying to lift him on my arms and run after Bakugou for getting help. With all the pain he was in he still whispered my name and told me ‘Kaminari, but you can call me Denki.’ He said trying to stay conscious so I kept answering him to keep him awake. Calling him by his name asking him to hold on a little longer. That was when he lifted a shaky hand to whip the tears from my eyes, tears I haven’t noticed had started falling, and told me ‘You are too cute to cry as you were to die.’. I could stop the tears by that time and he was almost lifeless in my arms. We finally arrived there; a small hut belonged to a healer and an old friend of Bakugou. Uraraka offered her bed for me to lay Denki down and as I did I begged him one last time to not die. He smiled weakly and made a deal with his last breath.” He stopped to catch a betraying tear from falling.

“What was the deal?” Shouto tried to not look at him in this venerable state and also hide his own glassy eyes because it was so heartbreaking to hear their story.

“He said if he pulls through it I have to give him a kiss.” He let out a smile chuckle. “He did pull through it after three weeks. And I never left his side more than a few hours in that time. After that Bakugou asked him to join the crew and he accepted the offer, proving to be a useful informant. He helped us find the right targets. The dirty tradesmen who built their wealth by stealing from the poor, and others like them.”

Shouto was looking at him expectantly when he didn’t continue.

“What?” Kirishima asked confused.

“Did you give him that kiss?” Shouto asked before he could stop himself and immediately averted his gaze from the other’s. Damn his curiosity and his loose tongue.

“Oh… I give him more than a kiss.” He regretted asking upon hearing that. “I gave him my heart.” Now he is just embarrassed by how impure his mind has become… It’s definitely Bakugou’s fault. He doesn’t know how, but it is.

“So let’s go through the rest of them real quick.” Kirishima says sensing the awkward silence.

Yeah let’s move on. Before he makes a bigger fool out of himself.

Kirishima doesn’t wait for his approvement as he points at the pink haired woman dominating the game singlehandedly. “Ashido Mina. Ex-assassin. She used to serve under Shigaraki the infamous pirate of the west. He sent her to assassinate Bakugou when his presence became more dominating in eastern seas, not letting his guys to raid the innocence. Mina was the best at what she did. No one has crossed path with her and came back alive to tell the tale. No one but Bakugou. He wasn’t in the royal navy by the age of fifteen for nothing. He isn’t only a master war strategist he also is a combat god. His reflexes have no match and Mina was stripped off her most important weapon… surprise! But she was able to put a mark on him; a knife slash on his shoulder which impressed Bakugou enough to spare her life and ask her to join him instead with she deemed a worthy enough guy to serve. She still tries her luck on killing him once in a while but Bakugou have survived them just fine and kept her along as long as she only pulls her shit on him and not the other crew members.” Shouto only can stare at the sweet pink haired girl with wide eyes, making a mental note to not piss her off ever.

After that Kirishima points at a black-haired guy sitting next to Mina trying to take peak at her cards. “That’s Sero Hanata. He used to be a bounty hunter. He tracked us all the way to our secret hideout back in Fiji. Quite impressive you see? So before he can bust our asses Bakugou caught him and offered him twice as much as the bounty prize and a position on the crew he is an expert in setting traps. That’s how we secured our hideout from the native savage there.” Well judging by the way he trapped Mineta he had some skills.

“Next we have Jirou Kyouka. She used to be a bartender back where she comes from. That’s how she knows her way around music, booze and fights. She was about to be executed for having an affair with the princess when we get to the city. The said princess had asked for Bakugou’s help personally and he got her out of trouble with some difficulty which the princess had paid for generously. She stuck around because she couldn’t go back and the princess has asked Bakugou to keep her safe until she can escape and join her once again. But not gonna lie to you, she can hold her own in a punch fight with Bakugou no matter how much he hates to admit it. And we all can appreciate her beautiful music and booze mixtures.” Shouto smiles to the girl’s story while sipping on one of her heavenly mixtures. He sure can appreciate her talent.

The next one Kirishima points at is Aoyama. “The guy in shining armor is Aoyama Yuuga. He was an ambassador from UA which have gone almost crazy during the war. With no position for him in the court he found his way to Bakugou and asked him to accept him in his crew. He doesn’t look like it but he can speak in every live language fluently so Bakugou kept him. he is useful during trade with foreign partners or selling our goods.” The redhead was right. The guy didn’t look like someone useful in pirate crews but he wasn’t the worst to have. The worst one was squiggling in his rope trap in front of them.

He points at the little man before asking “What about him.”

Kirishima throw look at the miserable creature while drowning his drink. “Oh he has a special talent.” He says causing Shouto to lift a brow at him. “He neither dies or get ditched. So we are stuck with a late night bad drunken decision to let him on the deck. After that nothing worked to get rid of him.” he finishes and Shouto chuckles to that.

“So what is your story?” Kirishima asks after a few minutes.

He looks up in confusion. “Well I bribed my way into the crew. You were there.” Kirishima huffs to that and smiles at him.

“I didn’t mean your journey here. I told you the story behind me and Denki’s relationship so…” he leaves the rest of the question hangs in the air.

“Oh.” Is Shouto’s reaction. “You meant me and Midoriya.”

Kirishima’s face drops but he pulls back his smile. “Yeah. That…”

He shrugs before starting in his story. “Simple royalty rules. Father wanted me to become the next peace keeper which didn’t go as planned when All Might entitled Midoriya as his successor. So he went for the next best thing to have control over the title. He deemed the new successor unworthy of a royal position unless he became one of the royals by marrying a true royal blood, a.k.a. me. It wasn’t pretty between us but we figured it out slowly. He is an easy man to like and even love someday.” He trailed off after that.

“Wait you mean you are not in love with him?” Kirishima asked confused.

“Most of these arranged marriages aren’t held in the name of love. We are lucky to like each other enough to go through this willingly. Love might come with time but for now I don’t think I’m comfortable enough to call the feeling inside of me love. It’s more like a feeling toward an old and dear friend.” He says smiling fondly at his memories back at UA.

“Sorry to hear that dude.” A new voice joined the conversation. Shouto turned around to see Kaminari dropping himself between him and Kirishima kissing the other on the cheek.

“What are you sorry about?” he asks confused.

“Being stripped off the chance to find true love.” He said throwing a bright smile at the red head placing an arm over his shoulder.

“I don’t get your point. What’s the difference between love and true love?” he asks still confused.

“Holy shit dude. You can’t be for real. You haven’t heard about it.”

“I’m afraid not. Mind enlightening me?”

“You can’t catch the hold of it just through hearing about it. You should feel it to know what it can do to you. But I try my best. It feels like fire in your heart that spread through your body every time you look at their eyes. Your heart starts beating faster. Your breath coming out harder. You can’t stop thinking about them. Their touch burns you from inside and you do stupid shit for them. You can’t bear the thought of them being hurt or sad. you will do everything to see them smile or laugh. You feel sad if they are sad. you have eyes just for them. And every minutes spend with them is the best moment of your life. You know all of these in a single package.” The blond finishes as he lays his head on his lover’s shoulder.

Shouto though is still confused and creeped out.

“That sounds hurtful. I’m not sure why one might seek this true love.” He says trying to wrap his head around it.

The sound of Kirishima’s muffled laughter brings him back to reality. “It sure does the way Denki puts it.” He says smiling at his pouting blond and pulling him closer to his side. “But in the end true love is all about finding that someone who change your life upside down so much that you don’t even remember how it was before you find them. The craziest thing suddenly feels right if they were done with them by your side. Your everyday routine is challenged by their presence and it’s not meaningless anymore. The feeling of belonging and being home when you are in their arms is enough to fight all of your doubts away. Knowing that someone is there to fight for you when even you have given up in yourself. A warm smile and a shoulder to cry on. Someone to belong to and know they belong with you too. Someone you trust to hold your heart and make it beat to sound of their own. To make you more whole that you ever think you were. It’s truly is the best feeling if found.” He finally looked at Shouto. His gaze burning. “And trust me. If you ever found it… don’t let your chance of happiness slip away without fighting for it till the last moment.” His eyes bore into him like asking for him to promise him something. Something he wasn’t even aware of. It was too intense so he tried to change the subject.

“So what is the story between you and Bakugou? How did you two became friends?”

Krishima gives him a knowing look but he answers regardless. “We were soldiers in training for the royal navy. He was the star and I was… okay. He didn’t pay us any mind throughout the training course as he had set his goal for becoming the next commander of the royal navy. When the war broke down we were needed in the front line and it was our first experience and we didn’t know what we were doing. If it wasn’t because of Bakugou our squad would be dead. He saved my life a thousand times and I followed him on the battle and out of it. The rest of us remained in UA under Bakugou’s command to protect it from the postwar attacks. They might still be in royal navy. Do you know Tokoyami, Togata, Amajiki or Shinsou? They used to be our squadmates.” The red head asked with shining eyes.

“I know Shinsou he is the chief commander of the royal navy. He was Aisawa’s adopted son so yeah, that was expected. Tokoyami must be the guy with the trained eagles. He is the right commander of the army. As for Amajiki he is the head of royal guards. And Togata… well he took over as the head trainer at UA royal academy after the accident with the palace attackers. The traitors were planning to take out All Might in his sleep when he arrives and take them down singlehandedly but loose a leg over it. He might not be able to run anymore but he is the best trainer at academy.” Hearing the rumor about Mirio to be true hurt him. he nods and tries to remember his smiles in those hard days on the battle ground, encouraging them to keep moving and don’t give up. He missed those days.

“What made him leave?” the prince question caught him off guard.

“What?”

“Bakugou. What made him leave? Even Midoriya doesn’t know why. He was one of the greatest talents to ever exist. So why give all of that up. What made him let go of his longtime dream when he was only a step away from it?” he asked finally letting his curiosity loose.

“Uh… I… I don’t think that’s my question to answer prince Todoroki.” Kirishima says nodding at the hatch leading up to the deck. “The one that should answer your question is up there.”

Shouto looks at the hatch considering his options.

His curiosity wins once more and he stands up.

He is followed by the couple’s encouraging smiles.

The humid wind slowly blows in his face as he steps on the deck, Bringing the salty taste of the sea into his mouth… a perfect night at the ocean!

He finds Bakugou standing at the helm guiding the ship through endless blue and looking at peace. He hasn’t noticed his presence yet.

He is taken back when he sees no trace of the usual scrawl on his face. He wants to keep staring at his sight or pays the best painter in all twelve cities generously to portrait it so it doesn’t go unnoticed by the world. Bakugou is indeed pleasant on the eye, even with all of those sharp edges and a body covered in scars can’t make him any less attractive. In fact, they have quite the opposite effect.

Something warm spreads through his chest to that admission which he ignores as he takes his eyes off the blond captain to climb the stairs leading to upper deck where Bakugou was standing.

The warm feeling turns into a squirming in his guts which worsens with each step. That’s what makes it impossible to look back at the blond when he reaches the last stair. He knows the other’s burning eyes are on him now and the thought of staring back at them makes him shiver and melt all at once. So he looks at the sea. Trying to buy some time to collect himself.

Why was he here again? Oh right the questions! Which he has forgotten upon landing his gaze on the blond.

He searches his head for them but only comes up with a smiling Bakugou wrapped in sail sheets looking down at him like nothing exists outside that tight space between them.

The image does unknown things to his heart so he decides to push it to the back of his mind where he can relive it later at night when he is deep in his dreams. For now, he needed to say something or he might never find the chance to speak with the blond alone.

But how one begins a conversation about the past with Bakugou when he clearly showed that it’s a personal matter he would rather keep to himself?

Maybe he should start with something less sensitive… something like…

Oh he hadn’t thanked him for the half rescue half suicide mission, did he?

That was a good beginning so he opened his mouth, finally breaking the peaceful silence.

“Bakugou…” the name flows on his tongue at the same time his heart beats loudly against his chest. He can feel the other’s burning eyes drawing back to him. “Thank you.” He says finally turning around to look at the blond captain. He smiles as the famous cocky grin starts appearing on the other’s face as he finishes. “For coming after me.”

“Well you kn-…” he smiled knowing what the blond had in stored for him a cocky ‘Who’s the hero now?’ but he stops midsentence under the prince’s knowing smile. Instead settling for a simple “You’re welcome.”

This makes him smile wider. This was so Bakugou like. All of this. This life, the sea, the wild nature, the fight, the celebration, the smugness, the proud face… even the peace of aftermath.

Everything that was Bakugou Katsuki and he became to admire about him and long for… for this life. For this Freedom.

“This life suits you.” He says whole heartedly. He couldn’t imagine Bakugou anywhere other than the deck of his ship, riding the waves toward the setting sun with his wild grin on display for the whole world to see… for him to see. At least before he is forced back to dry land to attend his royal duties.

“Haha… yeah.” The blond agrees a smile on his lips as he shrugs. “I wasn’t made for dry land.” He lets out a satisfied huff as he directs his gaze back to the prince standing beside him. “And you?”

The Question takes him off guard. Taking him back to days he would sit on the edge of the window in her mother’s room gazing at the open sea as his mother whispered him stories about the wonders waiting to be discovered in every corner of the world.

Bakugou showed him more than he ever imagined he would be able to land his eyes upon and for that he would ever be grateful. At least he had something to satisfy the fire in him for the years ahead, stuck inside the tall walls of a castle.

“Is it the shore or the sea?”

Oh he was too drowned in his thoughts to answer the blond.

He looked at the sea trying not to let any emotions show on his face. things he felt when he thought about the answer. Instead he pulled up his best smile when he answered.

“I’ve always loved the sea. I even dreamed of a life on it.” His voice betrayed him as it shook upon words leaving his lips. He let out a sigh to collect himself. Not looking at the red eyes staring at him. his smile dropped as he averted his eyes from the deep blue surrounding them to look at the deck. “But it wasn’t meant to be.” He puts some effort to keep the smile on his lips but Bakugou notices the shining light dying in his eyes. “I have… responsibilities in UA.” He finishes finally dropping the forced smile and throwing a glance at the blond by his side.

Bakugou stared back. Right through him, through his icy walls, through his heart. “You really had to give it up?” Bakugou states more than asks.

“Yes.” And for once Todoroki doesn’t hide behind his lies. He doesn’t want to hide from Bakugou. Not anymore.

So he looks at the sea with open longing and lost in his eyes. Letting himself being seen in his most vulnerable moment and trusting Bakugou to not making fun of it.

The blond once again proves himself more than worthy of his trust as he places his hand on his without saying a word and he dares to look back at those red oceans to only find something that warms his heart to no end… the softest smile only for his eyes to see.

He is caught in the moment and doesn’t resist when his hand is pulled by the blond’s. Bakugou steps away from the helm as he steps behind it. Bakugou finally put his hand on the helm and stands back. Conveying his massage without breaking the peaceful sound of the waves with words.

He is overwhelmed by so many feelings he can’t put a name on that leave him only staring at the blond with wide eyes. The understanding look on the other’s face as he nods at the helm, settles his mind at ease. He didn’t have to explain anything more. Bakugou understood without the words needing to be said out loud.

He finally takes the hold of the helm properly and sets his gaze back to the sea.

He feels Bakugou’s presence standing close behind him and let the peace in his mind and heart. He had gained more than he bargained for. But a little voice poked him with wanting something more he didn’t know.

“You know, I’ve travelled the world, seen things no other man has seen, but nothing…” he pauses for a moment looking at the prince’s peaceful face. “Not all of them compare to the open sea.”

Hearing the ease in other’s voice, he finally finds the courage to ask his question. “And is this what you always wanted?”

The question stirs something in Bakugou as an expecting feeling fills his guts, tugging at his heart with the visible changes in the blond features when he spares a glance over his shoulder.

“Not really.” He lets out a huff and smiles at the memory. “All Might was a big idol of mine back when I was a kid. We grew up admiring him and his victories. Dreaming of following his footsteps when we grew up. Well you could say we all tried our hardest but he only could have one successor and he made his choice.” He said with a little tug of his lips. Shouto knew very well who he was talking about. Was it why he left? Before he could ask, the blond continued. “I was never jealous of him though. I declared I would surpass him even he is the chosen one. I would be the hero the people would never forget. That’s how I found my way into the royal navy, training my ass off every day to climb the ranks faster than everyone ever had. There wasn’t anything I wouldn’t get when I set my mind in it.” He paused again. “Almost.” He corrects himself looking at the prince that was looking back at him with his intense gaze.

“What happened then?” the question came out in a low whisper. Not wanting to break Bakugou’s line of thoughts.

“I found something I wanted. Beautiful, elegant, powerful, unique.” The soft smile appeared on his lips once again. “This time I was going to try even harder to have what I wanted. And I did. I climbed the ranking one by one. I won the war. I became the hero who deserved to stand by his side. Only to come back and watch my dream taken away from me right in front of my eyes, once again.” He averted his gaze back to the sea. “I wasn’t jealous of him, really. Not until that morning when a ship came into the harbor. A ship with his future on it.” He said his voice dying down and Todoroki’s heartbeat grew impossibly faster.

“What was on the ship?” it came out way more breathless than he felt.

Red heated eyes landed on him again whispering a word that crushed his whole world on his head.

“You.”

It was whispered in such a soft tone that wouldn’t be believable of Bakugou if he hasn’t witnessed it himself up-close.

He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t blink. He couldn’t talk. He couldn’t think. All he could do was staring at the broken heart put so willingly on display for him as the blond’s sad eyes didn’t match his soft smile.

“Deku wouldn’t shut up about meeting the one who accepted to save him from getting striped off his title and how he owed him for his life so he would make sure to make him happy. So I agreed to accompany him to welcome his future partner’s arrival.” He let out a shaky breath. “He met you at the dock and didn’t notice my world shattering around me. I wouldn’t blame him. who wouldn’t be distracted by your presence?” the bitter laugh tears through his heart as he faces the blond, abandoning the helm. “I couldn’t threaten Deku’s position with All Might’s retirement so close and I couldn’t get you out of my head so I jumped on the first outboard ship knowing Deku would make good on his promise of making you happy and never look back.” He reached for his hand, gently taking hold of them and looked back in his eyes. “Not until now.” He gives a little squeeze and lean closer.

Overwhelmed with so much emotion he is foreign to, he closes his eye expectation building in his chest. He doesn’t retreat when the blond steps closer. Slowly losing in a comforting warmth of arms embracing him and bringing his hands to place on a board chest. Feeling the warmth under his touch, satisfying some deep aching he didn’t know existed.

His heartbeat matches the blond’s under his palm as he feels the hot breath on his face. He takes a glance at the crimson seas and gives up on any rational thoughts trying to hold him back as he surrenders willingly to the close embrace, letting his eyes fall close once again when he senses Bakugou inching closer to his aching lips.

He feels the fire taking over all of his senses and expectation settling a heavy weight on his too tight chest.

A hand sneaks behind his nape and he holds his breath in as he follows Bakugou’s hand without any resistance.

Finally, he feels those hot lips… on his forehead.

He is confused at the little disappointment he feels but the tightness of the embrace and a hot tear wetting his cheek chase the feeling away and make him open his eyes… he doesn’t remember crying.

“I’m no longer someone who deserve you.” His hand fists in Bakugou’s cloth as he realizes the betraying tear doesn’t belong to him but to the blond that is making his heart shatter in his chest.

He stares at the sad smile on the other’s face and realization downs on him in the cruelest way… he wanted the blond. The thought of Midoriya never had crossed his mind as he was willing to take whatever Bakugou was going to offer.

He felt near suffocation at once.

Oh gods!

Why? Why now?

His talk with the couple down the deck echoed in his head and he had never felt as helpless as he felt in that moment.

He opened his mouth trying to form words but nothing came as he kept falling in those sad endless deep reds.

And the next tear rolling down his cheek was his, this time.

They didn’t get any chance to say anything else as they were pulled out of their moment by flashing lights flying by them toward the horizon; Lighting the night sky.

They followed the light to the promised star point for Tartarus as they collided and let out a blinding light.

And out of that light emerged…

“The gate of Tartarus.” Bakugou whispered.

.

.

.

They have arrived.
