Chapter Text
“Are you out of your mind? You could have been killed!”
Shinji scolded the young boy sitting in front of him and his comrade, he had so foolishly run into danger. It was lucky the boy was alive. Shinji glanced over to the reporters who had gathered around another boy, one who had been trapped among a slime villain for the longest time, said boy was being praised for his braveness.
With a sigh, Kamui Woods turned to the greenette and rubbed his forehead, “I understand you were just trying to help, but you should leave it to us heroes, understand?”
And with that, Shinji’s day was over. He walked lazily home, a bag slung over his shoulder and a hat and scarf wrapped around his head. He didn’t want civilians noticing him, so he usually wore such attire to keep his privacy.
But at the moment, Shinji didn’t care about that at all, the man was deep in thought. The boy's actions rubbed on him weirdly. Just what was that boy thinking? HIs mind flashed back to the situations he was put in at the district.
--
There was fire everywhere, Shinji tried to save as many as he could, but nobody could get close enough to the source. Kamui jumped over pieces of debris from the monster behind him as he carried citizens in his arms with the use of his quirk, he’d need to remember to hydrate quickly before running back in.
“There’s too much fire! I can’t get close enough, Death Arms!” He shouted over the commotion which was the villain.
“Me neither! We’ll just have to wait for other heroes to come, we’re at a stalemate!” The other shouted back.
Setting down the civilians to be tended to be aide, He turned back fiercely to the monster who wreaked havoc just a hundred feet away from him. He caught sight of the boy who all the heroes were trying desperately to save. Do something! Kamui Woods! He tried to motivate himself.
Truth be told, Shinji was frozen, the fire was too much, everything shouted weakness. A step into the flames and he was as good as dead. He was useless in this situation. He couldn't do anythin-
“Hey kid get back!”
A green haired boy whizzed past him. If it weren't for the yell erupting from his fellow heroes, he’d have thought it was a hero.
But it was just a regular kid.
---
“Just, an ordinary kid.” Shinji mumbled to himself, taken out of his memories. He had to stop at a traffic light to let oncoming vehicles pass on their way to their assumed home.
The appearance of the boy bothered Shinji, it intrigued him greatly, he had flung himself into danger, even when the other heroes stood frozen, including himself. He hated to say it, but the only person who acted like a true hero today, was that boy.
Shinji took a hand out of his pocket, staring at the wooden limb fondly. If that boy is strong enough to run into the face of danger. I can as well. I won’t hesitate any longer. Or my name isn’t-
“Kamui Woods?”
He felt a tug on his pants.
Looking down, he found the small hand of a little girl clutched onto his pants. He stared wide eyed at the child before looking up to find an equally shocked expression of the mother of said child.
“Oh dear, I’m sorry! Baby, leave the man alone-”
Before the woman had the time to apologize, Shinji gave a chuckle.
“Yes, that’s me.”
This seemed to entice more excitement among the child and more shock among the mother.
“Oh wow! I watched you on T.V today! You’re really cool!” She spouted.
Shinji could only stare at the girl as she rambled on, he chanced a look at the mother, who still looked in shock. He offered a smile and lifted his scarf over his mouth to speak to her more clearly. “My mask is detachable, and quite uncomfortable to wear all the time, but yes, it's me.” He waved his wooden hand around to prove it.
The woman gulped, she seemed to be trying to collect her nerves, fanning her face with a hand. “O-Oh, I see. Well. It's an honour to meet you, Mr. Woods, you’re a very brave m-man.” She managed to croak out.
Shinji found himself chuckling again. He looked down at the child again, who was still somehow going on with her tangent. He smiled softly towards her.
I’ll be braver next time. That's what I will do. This world needs to be protected.
“Thank you, I appreciate your support.”
