Chapter Text

Again.

This particular instance rounds the Vulcan’s eyes this time, wide, dark circles that he then crushes into a deep groove of confusion. Spock stands there, stunned, and much farther down the corridor than he had been approximately ten point two three minutes ago.

First, the Captain. Then Doctor McCoy.

What has transpired certainly had not been coincidence. It can’t be. He refuses it; the slap to his lower extremities, was even more aptly pronounced than the first time. The absurdity of it sets his jaw, Spock’s teeth, sliding together behind the cover of his lips. It is enough that he has apparently fallen victim to such a failure of his surrounding awareness once already.

Spock opens his mouth, turning around as he had not so long ago, and immediately aims to voice his inquiry where he had, quite grievously, missed his chance earlier. However, again, he is too late. Too muddied and slowed by his private confusion, his contemplation. Regrettably, Spock's eyes just catch the sight of Leonard's back as the Doctor escapes around the corner.

Spock stares, teetering in thought. He determines that the reason must be of a playful nature. One, that Spock would surely attribute to Jim’s doing if not for the fact that the Doctor has also convened to participate in Jim’s immaturity. His reaction becomes the tune of honest surprise than it is frustration. He wonders of their possible motivations, deliberating the potential reasons might have fueled their joined compulsion to test his limits, more specifically ( and perhaps, more disturbingly ) in public.

After a beat, Spock’s brow effectively punches high on his forehead once he’s given thought to this event. He lets his padd separate from between his grip, clutching it in the fingers of his left hand when it swings to sit at his hip. They are teasing him. It is illogical. They, are illogical. Though, the affection behind what they have done does not escape him either.

Without the ability to reprimand anyone in particular, Spock resolves to voice the only one thing he can say, determined now more than ever to discuss this with the both of them, together, at his earliest opportunity. “Fascinating.”

Notes:

This was a late add. But I posted the first part and couldn't help but add a second attack. Poor Spock.
