Chapter Text
Miss Keisha?!
Gakuhou’s at the kitchen table, peacefully working on his own reports as the lull of the television carries over from the living room. His son and the accompanying boyfriend are there, and every once in a while Gakuhou hears soft commentary and little laughs. He’d die before he admits it, he’s grateful for Karma Akabane. Akabane is a big contributing factor in making Gakushuu come out of his shell, and the house is a lot warmer for it.
So he’s not really paying attention to whatever they’re saying. He’d tuned in briefly about 20 minutes ago to check on them, but he’d just heard an endless string of puns. Still, the next sentence he hears pierces through the thoughts of work in his head.
“Do you think about getting married?”
The tip of his pen breaks. Gakuhou straightens up and whips around to stare at the couch that the two are cuddled up on. It doesn’t look like they’ve noticed Gakuhou’s attention. He’s not sure who asked the question.
“I don’t know,” Akabane answers. Oh, so it must have been Gakushuu who asked the first question-
-Gakushuu asked Akabane about marriage? Oh dear god.
Oh dear god .
“-Are you thinking about it?” Akabane is saying. He has one hand in Gakushuu’s hair.
“Is that weird?”
“Course not,” Akabane says.
Then Gakushuu says, “I want a baby.”
Oh fucking hell .
“Yeah?” Akabane says. “How many?”
“At least two,” Gakushuu says without hesitation. “It’s lonely being an only child.”
“I get that,” Akabane laughs.
“I’m going to be a terrible dad because I have a terrible role model,” Gakushuu giggles.
“I think he can hear us,” Akabane says.
“Well, he knows he sucks,” Gakushuu says. “He’s busy with work. If he was listening in, he would have passed out when I asked you about marriage.”
That was true, to an extent. Gakuhou has his fist clenched around his heart, and he tries to steady his breathing. If this was several months ago, there was no doubt he would already be on his way to the mortuary. But alas, he had this many months of practice dealing with his son’s gay relationship, and it’s going to take a lot more to faze him-
“So adopting?”
He should stop jinxing it.
“It’s not like either of us can get pregnant,” Gakushuu huffs.
“Are you sure?” Akabane teases. “We haven’t tried.”
Oh, okay, so they haven’t gone that far, this isn’t so bad-
Gakushuu giggles, again. “Yes we have.”
What.
“That doesn’t count!” Akabane says. “That’s basic reproduction science, it doesn’t count as trying for a baby if we have protection-”
Gakuhou thunks his head on the table. There's an audible slam. He’s dead. Gone. Deceased.
There’s an abrupt silence from the two. The television continues to play. And then Akabane says, “oops, we’re busted.”
“Dad, go away,” Gakushuu says. “We’re 17.”
“You turned 17 three days ago !” Gakuhou shrieks.
“Yeah and it was a very productive birthday celebration,” Akabane snickers.
Gakuhou stills. He thinks his heart stopped beating.
“Don’t be so hard on them,” Tamiko says pleasantly, as she pokes her head out of the kitchen. “They kept safe, took the proper precautions! He can have sex with his boyfriend if he wants to.”
Gakuhou opens his mouth to say something, anything … and then he realizes he genuinely has nothing to dispute. “I know,” he says miserably, and his admission briefly shocks Tamiko, who stares at him in wide-eyed bafflement for a few seconds before her face breaks into a grin.
“Good on you, boss,” Husare says cheerfully, as she walks past him with a duster. “Hear that boys?”
All of a sudden Gakushuu is next to him, Akabane standing behind. Both of them are red-faced and grinning. “Thanks dad,” Gakushuu says softly, and behind him Akabane says, “thanks, pops.”
Gakuhou sighs at them in exasperation. “There better not be any pregnancies out of wedlock.”
Gakushuu and Akabane exchange a look, and Tamiko bursts into laughter. “Oh honey,” Husare says. “I don’t think you have to worry about that .”
