Chapter Text
The dark room was bathed in a pale green light as a glitchy documentary was projected onto the usually purple walls. Fionna was laid across the the foot of the large bed, arms buried in the plush blanket, her feet swung back and forth behind her as an effort to keep herself awake as she pretended to give the movie her full interest. The girl stretches to cover up her turning her head to check up on her friends. They had been so quiet since the movie had started, and she wanted to make sure that they were okay.
It had taken two weeks before everything felt normal again. Fionna had tried forcing herself into spending time with royals immediately after, content to act as though everything was fine, but the three eventually agreed that it would be best to take some time apart. They all needed time to rethink their relationship and the future of their friendship. Thankfully it did not take too long for the awkward conversations to become comfortable once more. And the prince and king were able to regain the teen's trust after a couple of unplanned quests together.
So now here they were, in Gumball's bedroom, for their first movie night back together. It was Marshall's turn to bring snacks and Gumball's choice of movie. Which is why they were snacklessly watching a documentary. Gumball sat at the head of his bed, his back straight against the elegant headboard. His legs were crossed one over the other, his sock covered feet inches away from the girl. His eyes were glued to the screen, wide eyes so transfixed on the boring movie that he hadn't even noticed the girl watching him. The prince had admitted to trying to keep the truth from the girl, telling her the things she had already known. He had even baked her some apology muffins.
She watched him a while longer before stifling a yawn and turning back, her eyes roaming down to an unruly mop of black curls. Marshall Lee sat on the floor just beneath her, his back braced up against the bed, and his legs crossed beneath him. His head was bobbing slightly before drooping down completely. It was obvious that the vampire had been dosing off when he abruptly threw his head back with a loud sniff of sudden awareness.
Fionna giggled at the fluffy hairs tickling her face as Marshall Lee fully woke himself. The king gave a loud yawn and a backwards stretch, ruffling Fionna's hat, before floating to a stance causing Gumball to complain about him 'blocking the screen'.
"Move over Gumbutt, I'm coming up." He said, his words were slurred with traces of sleep. Fionna had noticed that the two were more comfortable around each other now. Apparently they had hung out in Fionna's absence during those two weeks, and talked it out. Fionna was proud of the two men. Without any argument the gummy prince slid over to one side of the bed.
"Are you sleeping already Marshall?" Gumball mocked playfully, focusing his eyes back on the screen. The vampire's response was to starfish out across the bed. His hand pushed at the prince and his feet nudged the girl as he obnoxiously snored. Fionna laughed as she watched the two playfully fight over the bed space, the king pretending to have rolled over in his sleep and onto the prince.
It was the closest she had ever seen the two before. She felt her eyes grow heavy and her shoulders relax as the two finally settled down. She could see Marshall Lee fall back to sleep quickly, one arm still strung over the prince. She looked over to where they were connected and then up to Gumball's face. She could see him watching her through her heavily lidded eyes.
The pink man gave her a soft smile which she sleepily returned, snuggling her head into the plush blanket. The smile had told her that things weren't going back to normal. It reassured the teen that from now on, things were better than normal. This friendship was new, it was going to be better and stronger than before now that there were no secrets between them.
