Mike catches himself memorizing small things—how Will’s wrist looks when he adjusts his watch, the way he bites the inside of his cheek while thinking. Every detail feels sharper than it should.
He wonders when it started feeling different. When “best friend” started sounding like something he had to remind himself of.

“Chief, I think you need to deal with this one” Flo said as she walked into his office. Hopper could hear the yelling continue to rage on, could smell the putrid and furious pheromones wafting through the air. It was only as he stepped closer that he could hear the words being shouted.
“Where is he?! Let me go! Hopper!” It was Mike. Hopper sighed as he saw his son in law being restrained by three officers. “Hey, hey, kid. What the hell is going on? Mike. Calm the hell down, son” Hopper said.
Mike continued to thrash around, but he wasn’t shouting anymore. “What happened?” Hopper asked. “They got him” Mike said, panic and anger clear in his voice. Hopper furrowed his brows. “Got who?” He asked carefully.
“Who the hell do you think? Will, they got Will” Mike said.
