Come spring, the entirety of Yulje's hospital staff knows about the love story between the pediatric surgeon and GS resident so the sight of them together was a common one once they got over attempting to remain discreet. Ahn Jeong-won was also known to have faith in Jang Gyeo-ul’s solo surgeries and he’s given her many opportunities. Her excellent success rate proved his faith was well placed.
“Doctor!” A young voice calls out.
They both turn around to see Gyeo-ul’s 7 year-old surgery patient waving at her enthusiastically before running to her. Jeong-won pats her wrist and slips a lollipop into her hand before he takes his leave.
They were meant to meet his mother during their short break at the hospital courtyard. In her delight to know that he was staying, his mother insists on spending time with him and Gyeo-ul during their short breaks every now and then.
While he sat by his mother’s side, he watched Gyeo-ul talking to the young patient. He smiles when she smiles. The young patient happily gives Gyeo-ul a hug when she presents the lollipop. While she was still not used to happy physical reactions like a hug from patients, he knows when she wraps her arms around the little girl that she was getting so much better at connecting with them. It was a growth he was privileged enough to witness.
Jeong-won remembers once, a long time ago, his good friends told him to look ahead and become a good doctor while his mother told him to settle down. He wanted neither. But overtime, somehow it had changed to something he considered.
The consideration eventually became a desire.
“Mom,” he speaks up, eyes still fixated on Gyeo-ul.
“Yes?”
“I’ll make her my wife one day, this I’m sure of.”
