Chapter X
‘Epilogue’
The morning started with a ruckus like all the others before, only this time one particular person was feeling the nerves running higher than usual, and it wasn’t for less, it was an important day after all.
Both Inko and Toshinori look on amusedly to their son run around the house so early in the morning muttering to himself a mile a minute, while both his siblings simply were putting on the table with barely contained laughter in their face.
“Izuku, my boy, do please calm down and eat your breakfast, you’ll going to need it for today” their father’s booming voice broke the frenzies that was slowly escalating to full blown panic.
“I’ll try Oto-san!” the fifteen-year-old teen nods sitting down rigidly in his chair, pouting when his sister couldn’t hold it in anymore and laugh aloud, but he couldn’t get mad at her so end up just rolling his eyes and smiling at her. “Hime-chan your so mean”
“Izuku your so funny! You’ll do fine you don’t need to worry so much” Tenko reassure him patting him on the shoulder before wolfing down his rice and miso soup. His light blue hair long enough to be able to be put up into a man bun, his built has pass from all thin limbs to hard define muscles that was hidden by his U.A. uniform, he was in his last year read to graduate along with his friends.
“Besides, Shouto-nii, Tenya-kun, and Hitoshi-nii are going to be there right along with you!” Himiko nods taking the last bit of her fish before putting the chopstick down to glance at her sibling. She was wearing her middle school uniform, she would next year go to a special institution to be able to become a social worker that has a program of interim with Heroes and the police, thought at first her dream was to be a healer like Recovery Girl later she found out that her calling was helping other children not going to bad houses. “Besides Tenko-nii that is”
“Yeah you are right, but its still my first day in the school of my dreams, the alma matter of Oto-san! The school who has breed more Heroes than any other!” again his voices was reaching panic once more, but it was again squatted down by his mother.
“Izuku” instantly her son turns to her, bright green eyes fixed on her figure and she could do nothing but smile at him, at her son that would grow to know happiness if she has any say in it. Who won’t die prematurely or in a torn-up world. “No matter what, remember to do your best and nothing you can do can make us less proud, you’ll be a great Hero even if the place to do it it’s not Yuuhei, trust more in yourself dear”
“Oka-san!” his eyes filled with tears and it was like a waterfall, but he was smiling all the same, as bright as his father.
“She’s right, son, with all the preparation you’ve done all these years, the training Sir Nighteye and Gran Torino put you through, all of you, and your handle on One For All there is no a way you won’t ace it” running his big hand over the wild mane of green curls he laugh, specially when the teen protest half-heartedly. “Now, finish your food young man or you’ll be late for school!”
Instantly the three children clean off their plates and took the tableware to wash it in the kitchen leaving their parents to finish amusedly their own food, but in less than ten minutes everyone was standing by the door of their house, a place they move in when their parents finally marry a little less than two years ago and they could openly call the blond man dad, thought never when in Hero form, obviously.
“Now remember follow your professor’s instructions and go beyond, Plus Ultra!” Toshinori grin lifting his fist in the air followed by the three teens repeating his words enthusiastically before they were hugged by the small woman, quietly wishing them a good day, before the gaggle of children was gone leaving them alone on the house. “Ah, there they go… soon enough they going to be starting internships and then graduating and taking the world by the horns” he sighs ruefully.
“Tenko is already there, just a few more months and he will be officially starting his career as a rescue Hero” her voice was calm but fond, patting him softly in the muscle arm that instantly settle in her waist dragging her against his bigger body.
He groans loudly at her words.
“Don’t remind me, I’m still enjoying the feeling of a full house with our rumbustious children” they turn around to walk to the living room still in each other’s arms yet reminiscing about his kids growing up too fast for his liking. “In just three more years we’ll be all alone by ourselves watching them from the TV and on occasional holydays”
“You’re ridiculous” Inko rolls her eyes bemusedly by his over dramatic attitude, thinking about the appointment of two weeks ago with some trepidations and a mix of emotions. “Besides even then, we won’t have the empty nest syndrome” she said it casually but there was an undertone of tenseness that he didn’t catch.
“Well yes, we could adopt a pet I myself like dogs but over these years have learn to like cats too, they very intelligent and some of them even love to be constantly with people” he rambles running his thumb distractedly over her waist affectionately.
Like he did ever since they became an official couple it was like he couldn’t stop touching her in any way he could, little brushes of fingers over hair, her hand, arm or face always respectful because it was always present in his mind what she has gone through in the before and even if his wife continuously remind him that he didn’t need to ask before kissing her or initiate any kind of contact with her, he still did because to him it was important to have her consent meaning he was always attentive of the reactions of the green haired woman. It was only after finally marrying her, something he still was surprise and joyful about, that he relaxes somewhat in that regard thought made a point to make sure that she always could step away if desired thought she until now never did.
They wedding was a small affair of only close friends because neither have any biological family alive, the guess list went from Mirai, Sorahiko, Nezu, Chuuzenji, Dave and Melissa, the Todorokis, Hitoshi and his mother, Naomasa and the all the gang from the enthusiastic Hizashi to the strict Tenya, all their friends were there even little Eri and her two provisional guardians Aizawa and Kyra, the Bakugo’s assist too thought Katsuki has better attitude with his counselor he and Izuku still were exactly friends but the blond boy didn’t bother him either, so in their books that was win-win situation. They cerebrate it in the Todoroki state, offered generously by Enji as a wedding gift to his best friend and because it was large enough for everyone, Rei helped the bride to prepare everything happily, commenting about how cute it was that they were celebrating their wedding again after so many years of marriage but the woman in question only smile and didn’t say anything to dissuade any one from thinking it was their first time doing it, because even in the before she hasn’t gotten around to marry the man.
In the end it was a merry affair for all of them and seeing as they were Pro Heroes they couldn’t actually leave on a honeymoon, so they settle for a week off work in which they spend it on a little house in the outsides of Tokyo in a rural area while they children were staying with the Todoroki’s in an improvised training camp of sort.
“I… wasn’t exactly referring to a pet”
Her cautious voice disrupts his memories of one of the best days of his life, blinking he turn to look at her confuse and found her looking right back at him with a peculiar expression on her beautiful face, eyes wide open shining with different emotions that he couldn’t yet decipher but there was something that was nagging at him about her wording but it was difficult to put his fingers on what it was. His curious and worried blue eyes drag over her figure slowly traying to catch what was making her look so off but found nothing wrong visible at least, she looks as in shape as ever, healthy and whole with a shine about her that only made her look more beautiful but he didn’t find anything…
Wait…
Wait a bloody minute.
His gaze settle on her once more, moving his hand from her waist slowly to her lower belly as carefully as if with the wrong pressure he could shatter her, and in hindsight with his power he probably could, but once his hand rest on that part of her body and he actually felt the firmness that wasn’t there two months ago his breath stuck in his throat almost chocking him, so caught up in the realization of what she was trying to tell him that he actually jump when her small hand brush his.
“Inko…?” he asks feeling his heart beating erratically in his chest, glancing hopefully at her finding her beautiful face drenched on tears but with a trembling smile on her pink lips.
“I’m… I’m pregnant” Inko whispers legs shaking with the effort of holding herself up at so shocking news, something neither of them thought could happen.
When she has woken up on the past with only her memories and scars showing to tell the tale of her what the future could bring she hasn’t bother to check herself with a doctor to determinate the state of her body, no, there has been too much to do to change what was to come and so she has let it go but however, to obtain her Hero License it was needed a physical examination that was conducted by none other than Recovery Girl and it has show that the scarring wasn’t only on the outside of her skin but on the inside too, meaning that the damage done to her uterus and ovaries when All For One attack her on the before were still there though not as prominent as the old ones, that thought meant that any chances of conceiving a child was almost rule to none, there’s been too much scar tissue and by then she didn’t think there that important.
Later when her relationship with her husband was on she was already resigned and accepted the reality that there won’t be a child in their marriage and was happy with what she got, her family with her three wondrous children and a wonderful man that love her no matter what, that was there for her in everything that knew the worst of her, the demons that lurk on her inside and still look at her with so much love and care, she didn’t think they could be happier, not really. They both knew it and were okay with it, turning they focus on their family but then a few weeks ago she has thrown up her breakfast, thinking nothing of it at first until it happened twice more and then she realizes her period was absent for over almost two month and considering she was always like a clock concerning that she went to the doctor to get checked over, only to have Chuuzenjji telling her that news she thought she’ll never ever heard again.
It has been a shock, to say the least.
The terror has hit her there, the horrible thought that something would happen to the babe like it did in the before has her frightened so much that the nurse was forced to give her a calming draught or risk having the woman had a panic attack. After Inko’s been calm enough to assimilate the news they made some more test not only to determinate how long was she into the pregnancy and the health of both mother and babe, finding out that the scars somehow healed not entirely but enough to allow conception to be possible.
It has been hard not to tell anyone about it, except Nezu that only grin at her when she left Yuuhei that day letting her know that the principal knew. From there she has made other test to make sure the pregnancy would go as smooth as possible considering everything, her work specially, and was finally ready to tell the man she loves about it, but only did when their children were out the door on the way to school so they could be alone for it.
“We’re having a baby” he spoke staring blankly for a second, before falling to his knees in front of his wife so they could be more or less at the same level. “You’re pregnant” his voice tremble but there was a smile so big in his face that it illuminates the whole room. The whole world.
“I am” tears roll down her cheeks like a river, resting her body completely against his putting her arms on his steady muscled shoulders and inhaling deeply, taking in his unique scent to try and calm herself, because she was still getting use to the news and all that could come with it. “I’m so incredibly happy about it but at the same time… Toshi, I’m so afraid!” she half sobs burrowing her face against his neck like she could somehow fusion with him and hid inside his strength, his warm, his heart.
“I know” he murmurs running his fingers over her soft green tresses breathing her in, humming quietly in an attempt to ground her in the here and now, so she didn’t go down her dark memories that even now woke her up at night drenched in seat and with a silent scream on her lips, he did what he could to help her and at the same time she does the same for him when it was him that couldn’t go back to bed. “I know your scared, terrified even of what can be, but there are millions of possibilities in the world and if we focused on that instead of in the present then we are not living, I know is hard, it would always be for you and me giving our jobs, what we’ve been through in our careers, but all we can do is prepare for what we can and live our life to the fullest, to enjoy the happiness and our family, because they are here” he instill as much certainty and strength in his words as possible, wholeheartedly believing it because the alternative was living constantly in fear of the unknown and that in his opinion wasn’t living at all.
“I don’t want to lose this baby, or any of our children… I don’t think I could bare it, I won’t survive it” she whispers the confession feeling ashamed of her weakness but knowing that they had a deal to speak with each other about those kinds of things, to not keep anything close up because it would fester and become harder to fix, they have promise to be honest and deal with everything like a team.
“You won’t, Inko, we’re going to protect our kids to the best of our abilities because we are his parents, we love them and anyone who dares to try and harm them is going to be punch a hundred meters underground” there was definitely steel in his tone, a certainty that whomever even dare to put a finger on their children would be neutralized on site without a doubt, she didn’t even question the implication of murder that he left unsaid, because she felt the same. “We are going to do this together, like a family because I love you”
“I… I love you too”
Thought the tears didn’t stop her panic did, feeling reassure for the time being thought it was a win for now both knew the fears won’t simply disappear from night to day, it would take time for them to deal with the emotions that the pregnancy was dragging to the surface but that was life as its best.
.
.
“Your looking as if you haven’t been to U.A. in your life before” Tenko snort seeing his little brother practically vibrating in place in front of the gates of their school. He in the other hand was as chill as a cucumber, pack in his back hands in his pocket and hair in his signature half-bun.
“That easy for you to say! You’ve been coming to classes here for almost three years!” Izuku protested with a pout trying and failing to calms his nerves, his fingers were grabbing his yellow backpack so strong his knuckles were white.
“If Hime-chan was here right now she would probably be tutting at you, but seriously chill is not as bad as it looks” the light blue haired older teen tries to reassure his brother but before neither could say another word they were interrupted.
“Nee! Nee! Toogata look! Look! Is Tenko-san and Izuku-kun!” the animated voice of a bubbly blue haired girl said from behind the siblings.
Both turn around recognizing the person and smiling at the trio.
“Mirio, Amajiki, Nejire good morning” the older of the brothers spoke first with the green bean quickly following in his own greeting, after all they were his own friends and they haven’t see each other much over the vacations with the exception of Toogata who was training under Sir Nighteye.
“Hey! How’s been your vacations Tenko-san?! Mine was wonderful we went to the beach and everything!” there was a beaming smile on the only girl of the group, before turning to the smaller of them and rubbing affectionately his wild curls. “Nee! Nee! Izuku-kun did you change your shampoo or something? Your hair is wilder than usual!”
“Hado-san please don’t embarrass people so early in the day” Tamaki spoke looking to a wall with a depressing aura around him. “It’s his first day he is probably nervous” he adds as an afterthought.
“Oh? Really? You shouldn’t be Izuku-kun U.A. is awesome!” Mirio exclamin with a big smile patting the shoulder of the now more relaxed teenager. “I’m sure you’ll make great friends!”
“Listen to him squirt, he knows what he’s talking about, beside you’re a people magnet it be easer then it will be with this stunt here” another voice integrate itself in their conversation startling many of the people there.
“Good morning Touya-san! Is that your little brother? Can I meet him? Hi I’m Hado Nejire!” the girl happily waves to the two newcomers.
“Hado you’ve meet him before” Touya said in a deadpan voice, very similar to the tone Aizawa used to speak with particularly tick students. Or people in general. His usual red hair was now pitch black and there were a few piercings on his hears but otherwise he looks the same as his father, except less muscled and more with a vibe that clearly say that he was done with the world unless heavily dosed in caffeine.
“Izuku-kun” was all Shouto spoke, nodding toward the others there but not talking anymore.
She thought deeply for a moment before her face light up in recognition and she laugh not feeling embarrassed at all by her mistake. The rest only shook their head good-naturedly then greet the others while starting to walk into the school with a now more at easy green haired boy which naturally migrated toward his friends who was eyeing the place and the people curiously but in silence, and along the way Hitoshi join looking for all the world like he hasn’t sleep for over a week.
Once inside the building they parted ways each going to their own class room and the only person left with the nervous teen was his friend who apparently, and in his mind, thank to Kamisama, was in the same class as himself so chatting quietly they stood in front of the big door depicting the two letters, 1-A and took a deep breath steeling himself to his new reality.
“Let’s go Shouto-kun!” he gives his friend a big smile that was return with a nod and a much smaller one, before opening the door to a half-filled classroom full which chatter.
That this… was the start of his official step to become a Hero in training.
That this was his Hero Academia.
