Chapter Text
Izuku had no idea when he had fallen asleep, it was as if one moment he was being held in his father’s arms as they walked out the door, and the next he was lying down on something cold and hard. He blinked his eyes in the harsh light, and sat up. He felt something that almost felt like a bike helmet fall off his head.
It looked like he was on some sort of operating table, but what made Izuku even more confused was that the straps for tying someone down to it were not tying him down. Looking about more, he saw a strange mesh connected to wires. The mesh looked like it was the helmet thing that was on his head. The bright light from above made it difficult to make out anything else in the room, but it didn’t take long before he heard a door open and someone step into the room.
His father sat down on the table next to him, the harsh lighting doing nothing to make him seem any less threatening. The only feature he could make out was a smile that seemed to be far too wide to be natural. A large hand ruffled Izuku’s messy green hair. The hand did not let go of his head. A voice that seemed much louder and deeper than any voice had a right to be echoed in the small room.
“It is good to see you awake Izuku.”
Izuku squeaked out a reply “Where am I? Where’s mommy!”
“Don’t worry Izuku, I won’t hurt you or dear sweet Inko. I just had to bring you somewhere safe where we can discuss your quirk.” The hand still didn’t leave his head, and the words did nothing to make him less afraid of the man he barely knew from the picture on mum’s dresser.
“Wh.. what’s my quirk?”
“It is easier to show it to you than explain it, son” His father took Izuku’s right hand, and pressed it up against his chest. “Close your eyes, imagine yourself pulling something out of my chest”
Izuku nodded, closing his eyes and scrunching his face as he tried to imagine pulling something in through his hand.
In the darkness behind his closed eyelids, he started to see something like a distant presence, like a mountain cutting through the darkness of a starless night.
He instinctively reached out towards the presence and PULLED. There was a moment of resistance, as the darkness retreated back at his touch, but then it crept back towards him. A tendril of midnight deposited a singular star within his outstretched hand. As the tendril touched him, information flashed before his eyes, burning into his skull.
Hisachi Shiguraki

Izuku pulled away from that touch with static ringing in his head, barely recognising that he held the shining star in his hand. He shook away the ringing in his head and looked down at what he held in his right hand.
N/A
Quirk: Intelliamp
Type: Emitter
Allows the user to multiply their cognitive power depending on the energy they allow the quirk to consume. Passively increases caloric load of brain matter in order to give selectively perfect storage and recall of memories.
Izuku pulled the quirk into his hand, and as he did so the light shrank and faded into his skin. He could feel it now inside him, traveling up his arm and merging into the heat at the center of his chest. He thought for a moment, wondering what to do. He tried to pull it out of the heat in his chest, but nothing happened. Surprisingly, when touching himself he didn’t get that flash of information he did before. Perhaps that part of his quirk didn’t work on himself. Seeing no other option, he simply said.
“Intelliamp.”
A tendril of his own power rose up from his chest, and settled behind his eyes. It didn’t feel like there were two quirks, just one that had extended up into where he expected an intelligence quirk would go. Tentatively, he reached out and touched the thread, he could feel his brain shift and change as all his memories and thoughts shifted into place. It was like the difference between his room before and after his mum had cleaned it. Curious about what else it could do, he took that thread and pulled it as hard as he could.
He could feel his brain running faster and faster, he could feel his face flush and blood run down his lip from his nose. There was so much heat, there was steam coming off his breath and the power just kept running and running as the world slowed to a crawl.
All the processing power in the world can’t help if you’re panicking, he had no idea how to turn it off.
The darkness he had felt before swept over him, and he fell unconscious. He didn’t even feel his head hit the cold steel of the examination table.
