Spooky stories to read at night (Risetober edition)

Chapter 31: Family bonds

Notes:

So we finally reach the end. The last Risetober prompt is Anatawa Hitorijanai, and I ended up writing this very short fragment about Karai's thoughts during the finale.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

As Karai watches the latest generation of Hamatos in front of her, bicker and laugh between them, she can’t help but reminiscent about her own family, from so many years ago.

Memories of her father, taking care of her all on his own. Loving moments, celebrations and parties, but also tragedies, tears and screams. Karai squints her eyes a bit when she remembers the demons that tricked her own father into becoming the Shredder.

The monster that she had to put down, and that now is coming after her and these brothers, father and sister.

Karai’s taken out of her thoughts when Splinter arrives, screaming at them to leave her alone because she needs resting, and even when he’s admonishing them Karai can see it, the way his gaze relaxes just the tiniest bit looking at his sons.

There’s love, care and a bond stronger than anything. And it makes her smile, warm and with true intent.

Because in that moment she knows that no matter what, they will stick together. And maybe, just maybe, that’s enough to save the world and do what she couldn't alone.
