Chapter Text
Towards the end of the day, Magnus had been fucking exhausted.
He had spent all night trying to beat T.J. at PUBG (and failed spectacularly against T.J.'s godly status) and had fallen asleep at 6am only to be woken up by Alex running into his suite and jumping on him at 8am to drag him to breakfast with a smirk on his face.
Magnus had been pleasantly surprised that morning when his uncanny ability to figure out which gender Alex was at any given time was not impacted by his complete lack of sleep, but supposed he was grateful for it nonetheless. If he could help it, he didn't want to give any causes for concern to the boy who had practically tore his arm off excited to get to Spanish to the death.
Alex for the past week, had been animatedly discussing the benefits of speaking Spanish to the Floor 19 gang, trying to get them all to go. Mallory didn't want to learn a second language, regardless of what Alex said, and T.J. was happy to but didn't have time in his schedule, so really it was just Alex, Magnus and Halfborn making their way to the classroom as Magnus held back his fifth yawn so far. (A frankly impressively low number of yawns for someone who had practically pulled an all nighter.)
Spanish was at 7pm, right before their 8pm dinner at the feast hall, and Magnus currently had a mantra of 'just a couple more hours' in his head, because he just wanted to go flop onto his bed and sleep.
Unfortunately for Magnus, things were about to get more difficult.
The lights in the Spanish classroom were somewhat dim compared to average lights, and the teacher had placed Magnus and Alex in the back of the classroom, saying something in Spanish that Alex comprehended but Magnus definitely did not.
Alex had promised Magnus that if he learnt Spanish, Alex would be there to help regardless of the fact that Alex was already fluent in Spanish.
The teacher started her lesson, switching between deliberately slow simple Spanish words, and rapid fire English words as she tried to teach the group some basic Spanish words. All Magnus caught was the occasional basic word, some random English phrases and a couple glimpses at the board.
At this point, Magnus's vision had kept going fuzzy for moments when he lost focus and felt his muscles droop a little before realising he was falling asleep slightly and shaking his way out of it. This went on several times before he found his head resting on Alex's shoulder.
When he shook himself out of it, Alex looked at him, evidently concerned.
"You alright?" he whispered.
Magnus nodded. "Yeah, just a little sleepy." he whispered back.
Alex still looked worried, but let it rest in favour of the lesson. Magnus finally managed to pay some attention, sternly reprimanding himself for falling asleep. He was here because he cared about Alex and because he wanted to learn his language, not to sleep!
Magnus had managed to repeat and learn what the teacher was teaching.
"Hola, soy Magnus. Mucho gusto." Magnus repeated with the rest of the class as the class filled in their own names instead of the name she had put down and tried not to flush red and Alex looked at him and grinned happily.
