Chapter Text
Sam is pretty excited for the date, finding that he even feels happier around Bucky.
He still wants to kiss him when he's holding him in his arms, Bucky's arms tight around his middle as he flies him to safety but now his concience is calmer.
He can feel his love fully and laugh and tease Bucky with the full knowledge that he is being a grade A responsible adult that's deling with his feelings in a mature ass way.
He's sure if he told this to the folks down at the VA they would give him a round of applause for his rock solid handle of the situation.

JB: Yeah 7:30 is good. I'll be wearing a black leather jacket.
PirateShip: I'm gonna go with a blue shirt and jeans combo.
JB: Hey just wanted to say that even if you don't like me as a date maybe we can try and be firends?
PirateShip: wow, haven't even worn the outfit in real life and getting shot down 🥲
JB: no it's not like that, I really like talking with you and I just hope tagt even if I'm not exactly what you want we can still have a nice time.
JB: I'm sure you are absolutely stunning doll.
PirateShip: Charmer 😆
Pirateship: Jokes aside man, there is absolutely no way you could disappoint me.

The night before the date he's at Bucky's tiny ass apartment helping him assemble a table. Sam's more there to make sure he actually puts it up then anything else.
"We should get you a nice couch next, there is no way I'm coming here next time and sitting on a kitchen chair all night" Sam said and tapped the hard wooden leg of the chair they just assembled.
Bucky gave him a bitch look.
"Sure, I'll pick out one just for you. Gotta make sure your comfortable while you annoy me." Bucky said without taking his eyes off Sam.
Sam smiled wide.
They switched a movie on the TV and christened the new table by eating some pizza off it.
They spent the night like that talking and laughing, and Sam felt good, just plain good.

He didn't really think of the upcoming date the previous night, caught up in the easy banter bit the next day it hit him that he was doing this.
He hasn't been on a date in ages, he was a little nervous.
Facing down supervillians not a problem. One date in a sushi place. Resstles energy the whole god damn day.
He was happy it was their day off so noone could see him get ready for two hours. It was just embarrasing.
If this blew up in his face he was adding it to the list of things to yell at Riley when they met up again.
He could hear the laughter that would have caused in his head while he grabs his keys, takes another look in the mirror and goes out.
