Chapter Text

Being a member of the Companions was the highest honour Dream has ever received. He got to spend all day fighting, drinking and getting paid for it. Not to mention he was favoured to become the next Harbinger after Kodlak died.

He almost missed the times when the most excitement he would get was when Sapnap or George came to visit Whiterun, but ever since that Half-Orc with flesh coloured skin instead of a dull green, with long pink hair and crimson eyes stumbled into his life, things had never been the same.

Dream, a Nord, had been raised on tales of the legendary Dragonborn, a mortal with the soul of a dragon who would save them from certain doom. When he had met him - Technoblade - he had nearly begged to be his travelling companion. Technoblade didmt say yes, but he didn't say no either. In fact, he didnt say anything.

So that's how Dream found himself traipsing after the mostly silent legendary warrior.

His first dragon fight was terrifying. Seeing a beast of myth made flesh, staring him down with nothing but murderous intent in its eyes - it made Dreams blood sing. It was a wondrous battle and Dream coasted off the adrenaline high afterwards for weeks.

Of course, not all dragons were bad. Paarthunax was chill and Odahviing was really cool, though the Dragon hardly seemed fond of their flirting.

That was another thing. Though it originally happened completely by accident Dream was glad it did. Flirting with Technoblade yielded nothing but dirty looks and becoming a glorified pack mule for a day but eventually the Half-Orc softened, his glaring stopped, he leaned in to meet Dreams touches and as some point began to flirt back.

They made their courting official before they went off to fight Alduin at the Throat of the World and it was at that fight Dream lost his vision.

He could still feel Alduins razor sharp claws ripping through his face before the Dragon retreated. The healers at the temple of Kynareth told him he would never be able to see again and thus, Techno had to finish his mission of saving the world by himself.

They never saw eachother after Techno left for Skuldafn, even when news of his miraculous return reached Winterhold. Dream was busy learning how to fight withought being able to see. Sapnap, the Archmage at the college of Winterhold was working to adapt an aura spell so Dream could at least see the vague shape of his opponents, while George took up the task of sparring with him so he could get a feel of fighting blind.

Thoughts of Technoblade where never far from his mind, just pushed to the back while he worked on being able to fight again.

It wasn't until George announce he had stolen received invitations to a Ball being held in the Blue Palace in Solitude in honour of the Dragonborn thay Dream deigned to think about him again.

Was Dream nervous? so much, he felt sick at the thought of hearing Technoblades voice again. No, absolutely he was not.

The day of the Ball came and as Dream stepped inside the grand hall, the sound of endless chatter was beyond disorienting. George's arm in his own was the only thing that stopped him from running into people or walls. How he let George convince him to attend he didnt know.

Oh yeah, because he was hoping to see the man he'd promised himself to again.

Funny how life worked.

Speaking of Technoblade, the only time he'd heard him mentioned was when Emperor Philza thanked him for coming in his speech. Dream was almost convinced his efforts would be for naught until a conversation behind him caught his attention.

"Seriously Techno, you've been simping for this guy for forever, just talk to him!"

"Tommy, it's not that easy."

Was that Technoblade?

"Dear brother, you are absolutely tragic. Just talk to him, no balls."

"Wilbur please-"

"Get your man Techno!"

It was Technoblade, Devines help him.

A gentle hand on his shoulder startled him out of his prayers and Dream turned to where he assumed the person was.

"Hullo again."

"Nice to see you again Technoblade," Dream jokes.

"I thought you were blind?" Techno asks dryly.

"I am, but it's hard to forget a voice as nice as yours."

They fell into casual banter easily, a hint of their old flirting here and there though there was an overall heavy feeling to their conversation, neither one of them wanting to bring up the obvious elephant in the room.

It wasn't until someone came up to them, Dream thinks it was Tommy from Techno's earlier conversation, and not very casually asked Dream. "So are you like my brother in law now or something?"

"I-" Dream stuttered, looking in the general direction of Techno for help. He wanted to say yes but he doubts the Dragonborn still wants him.

"Were not married yet, Tommy," Techno drawls and that one word stick out to Dream.

Yet.

Because they soon will be.
