Chapter Text

Sometimes Diane had to admit that she was fucking amazing! ( though her girlfriend, Rhea, would surely argue that she was always amazing).

She was the one who had made sure that Beth and Christopher would meet each other, and now that she found out that they were dating she felt so proud of herself.

It hadn’t been easy, she knew that Beth was trying to save her marriage and she still loved her husband, even though that asshole had no idea how to treat her well!

Diane had been convinced from the start that Dean was cheating on Beth, and it hadn’t been hard at all to find out who the other woman was. All she had to do was to visit Boland Motors one day and she was extremely lucky because Dean Boland was a fucking idiot and thought that he could just have sex with his secretary in his office without getting caught. She took a few pictures of them, but she was only going to send Beth a picture of them kissing, she didn’t want her friend to be traumatized for life.

All she had wanted was for Beth to realize that she deserved so much better than her lying, cheating husband, and that’s why she had asked Christopher to help her with that. She thought that Beth and Christopher could get along really well, but she had never expected them to become an actual couple. She had just hoped that Beth would like him and see how is it like to be appreciated, and that perhaps they would have a little fun ( Beth definitely deserved that, Diane would bet that Dean never gave her an orgasm. It wasn’t something that she had ever discussed with her friend, but it wasn’t that hard to guess). She never thought that they were soulmates or anything like that.

So you can imagine her surprise when she discovered a few months later that Beth and Christopher were dating. And apparently they have been doing that for a while, but they never said anything about it. Of course that she had asked Beth if she liked Christopher, but she had just said “ he seems nice”. Perhaps it was her fault, she should have insisted on the subject, but at that time she had been so happy that Beth was finally going to divorce her husband. And she had asked Christopher if anything happened between them, but he had said that on the night they met they just talked for hours and then he had brought her home.

Of course that Diane had felt sad for her friend, Beth had been completely heartbroken to discover the truth about her husband, but she had been convinced that her friend would be happy again. And she had tried her best to help her, she would often visit her and suggest going to bars or doing something fun.

She had wanted to see her friend being treated with respect, Beth was one of the most wonderful people that she knew. Working at a strip club and having other women as friends was not easy. She had lost numerous friends because they didn’t like her job, or they felt insecure and were worried that their husbands might be interested in her.

A few times she also lost friends because their husbands wouldn’t approve of their friendship.

So after meeting Beth and seeing how awesome she was, Diane kinda expected that they couldn’t be friends for long. Beth didn’t seem to mind at all that she was a stripper ( and she was also okay with the fact that Diane was bisexual), but it was obvious that Dean didn’t like Diane at all.

And look, it’s not like she ever wants to come in between spouses, but damn if it doesn’t hurt not to be chosen and to lose another friend! From her experience men who didn’t want her to befriend their wives were either misogynistic or they weren’t exactly innocent and feared that she could see right through their bullshit and warn their wives about it ( But who is she kidding, most of the time it was both).

But Beth had continued being her friend, and that had meant the world to her. Because she was definitely not being used to being chosen.

With Beth she felt like she could share anything, without being judged. She had complained a lot about her mother, but it was clear that she loved that woman, even though sometimes she wanted to strangle her. But her mother had been so supportive of her relationship with Rhea from the beginning, so at the end of the day she had to admit that she had an awesome mom. And of course that she would tell Beth a lot of stories about Rhea, especially since she felt like she was starting to fall in love with her.

She had met Rhea almost 2 years ago, at a park. She was supposed to take care of one of her young cousins, when she had noticed that a boy felt down and was crying. She had wanted to comfort him, of course, but since she had only paid attention to him she hadn’t seen his mother until it was too late, and the two of them just walked straight into each other. And yes, it had been so awkward, but after they have both apologized and made sure that the boy was okay they introduced themselves and exchanged numbers.

She hadn’t dared to hope that she could actually date someone like Rhea, she seemed so perfect, and Diane had been convinced that she must be married, since she had a kid. And was it was most likely that she was straight anyways.

Diane had been so happy to discover that Rhea was a single mother, and she was bisexual too.  They started hanging out and getting to know each other, and soon they couldn’t deny that they were attracted to each other. And so they began dating, and Diane had never been happier. She loved spending time with Rhea’s son, Marcus, he was too precious, and after a few months of dating she knew that she wanted to be part of Rhea’s life for a very long time.

And that’s why she had been so nervous to meet Marcus’s dad, Christopher, she knew that if he wouldn’t approve of her Rhea might choose to listen to him. Diane had asked her girlfriend a lot of questions about him, she wanted to impress him, but Rhea had only told her that he was a businessman and that sometimes he would be gone for months. But he truly loved his son and Rhea would always consider him one of her closest friends. They were never married, they have been in a romantic relationship for years, but eventually she had realized that she was not okay with the fact that he was so busy with his job.

And Christopher could have been a complete asshole to Diane, but instead he had been so welcoming. He made her laugh, asked her questions about her job and her family, and she never got the feeling that he was jealous of her or that he didn’t want her to be around his son.

It wasn’t easy seeing Rhea every week, she worked most of the nights, and during the day she liked to get as much sleep as possible. But they tried to see each other almost every weekend, and it was so nice just to lie her head on Rhea’s lap and tell her about her week and or complain about her shitty boss, Gene.

He was the reason why she couldn’t be out at work, he already insisted a few times that she should kiss one of her colleagues because the clients wanted to see that. If he would find out that she was bisexual he would only want her to touch other women, and she was not going to do that. Not just because she had a girlfriend, but because she didn’t want to be used like that. It was disgusting and just the idea of it made her wish she could slap the shit out of Gene. Fuck that guy, seriously! He was also the reason why she hadn’t tried to date anyone from work, she would have hated to keep her relationship secret.

One day she went to work and discovered that Gene got beaten up pretty badly. But instead of taking out his anger on her or one of the other women, he was extremely polite?? It was like he was a complete different person.

She wouldn’t have suspected that Rhea had anything to do with it, until she saw her face when she had told him about her boss. Rhea didn’t act at all shocked, it was as if she had expected that to happen, and she had eventually admitted that she had told Christopher about Gene, because she wanted Diane to feel safe.

And then a month later Diane had just finished doing her last dance for the night when she saw Mick at the strip club. He was Christopher’s best friend and she had met him at a barbecue, they haven’t spoken much but he seemed really cool. He was talking to Gene, and it was obvious that her boss was absolutely terrified of Mick. At first she thought that Gene was just being a racist piece of shit ( she still remembered the comments he had made about her skin the first time they met), but then she noticed that Mick was carrying a black duffel bag, and she got the feeling that he wasn’t hiding pizza in there. Mick seemed happy to see her and he asked her if he could give her a ride home, and she said yes. Just before they left he told Gene “ We’ll see each other real soon” and it was so satisfying to watch Gene’s face. He looked as if he had wetted his pants.

So yeah, she suspected that Christopher was more than a businessman, but she wasn’t going to say shit about it. She didn’t care if he was involved in some shady business, he was a good father and it was obvious that he cared about Rhea. And that’s why she wasn’t going to ask Rhea about it, she didn’t want her girlfriend to feel like she had to lie to her.

She loved Rhea and she knew that she would want one day to marry her and have 5 children together ( She felt like she deserved that). But for now she would try to be the perfect girlfriend and just enjoy every moment she spent with Rhea.
