Chapter Text
Despite going through the trouble to summon a ghost he hadn't actually expected to, you know, summon a ghost.
So, yeah, he screamed.
It was a very manly scream, deep and...masculine, very much so, incredibly masculine, it wasn't even a scream it was...a roar...
Okay.
Anyways.
Because, ghosts weren't real, not really, and, even if they were real they wouldn't show themselves to Amane, he was the last person a ghost would appear in front of!
"Oh my god, why is he screaming?" The girl cried out, flickering in front of his face, his voice went up an octave, there was a moment where he couldn't help but marvel at his impressive breath control, he had been...roaring...for a while now...
"I don't know, maybe I should just summon-" the boy started but the girl cut him off. Amane felt his voice dwindle and thin, his throat is going to be sore afterwards.
"No, we should calm him down, he could die if we throw him in unprepared!" the girl argued as Amane felt his voice go shrill before dying out, leaving the bathroom feeling awkward and quiet. The ginger boy shrugged.
"Summoning us is preparation enough, isn't it?" Amane felt like nothing could have prepared him for summoning a pair of ghosts, oddly human-like ghosts, well, they had been human, once...maybe...the girl was a mermaid...are mermaids real? He felt his chest bubble again, please don't scream again, once was embarrassing enough.
"No, we can't-" the girl was interrupted by the floor splitting into two, the boy ghost quickly grabbing her and disappearing, leaving Amane with...
That can't be a mermaid...
"Oh ho huh, seems lil seven and an' half left me a new servant, you're not a lil fishy yet but thats alright, a scale will do the trick!" The hulking form moved towards him, the thing reminded him more of a slug than a mermaid. He felt panic wash over him.
"Here" a voice next to him said, earning a full body jolt, he whipped his head to see the ginger boy next to him, holding...a knife?
"Why-why do I need, this?" His voice was jumbled and higher than usual, as the ghost boy shoved it in his hand, Amane couldn't even grip it properly, loose in his hands.
"To fight, remember, whatever you do, do not eat her scales, okay?" The ginger looked into his eyes, it held so much meaning but Amane really couldn't understand any of it as he nodded fast and jerky. The boy apparently found this good enough as he went out of sight leaving Amane to face the gross, slimy mermaid. Looking at the scale the mermaid had just ripped off herself, which was glistening a clear, thick liquid off the pale coloured scale, yeah, Amame couldn't say it looked all that appetising.
He definitely wasn't going to eat that.
He took a deep breath, okay, he can do this.
He looked up.
The mermaid leaped forward, her teeth going down into the flesh of his arm, his hand flexed open as a sharp cry of pain left his mouth, the knife fell out of his hand, thumping useless in the ground underneath him as the mermaid bit down deeper, he couldn't hear anything over the blood in his ears and the sloppy tearing of his skin as the mermaid pulled back taking a bite of his arm with her. He felt his breathing speed up as he fell to the ground, shaking. His arm was bleeding, more a chunk of his arm was gone, eaten, it was grotesque and painful, moans of pain tumbled out of him, he looked up, eyes drooping in pain and fear as the giant fish woman drew close again. Her lips and teeth stained pinkish as he saw a flab of skin stuck between two sharp teeth as she grinned at him.
"Open wide, little one" her voice was gentle, the accent completely changed as he complied, tears in his eyes, her large, monstrous eyes, wild and hungry, but he listened. He had never considered himself weak before now and yet, at this current moment he felt like the biggest pushover in the world as he opened his mouth for the mermaid, dutifully swallowing the slimy, gross mermaid scale, hiccoughing in pain and shame.
He felt his body shake as he heard a girl scream, but it was probably just his imagination as he saw a flash of white before he faded into darkness.
