Chapter Text
There was shocked silence for a beat, and then 4 heads turned to the entrance of the Bay. Buck and Eddie were still frozen in a mixture of shock and mortification.
Stood near the curtain was the hero of the hour, in his 4 foot nothing glory, was Christopher Diaz. Hen stood behind him, a proud smile on her face. She looked like the cat that got the canary.
"Did I say it right, Auntie Hen?"
"Yeah, sweetheart you did great,"
That seemed to break the 2 men out of their state. A light blush dusted Eddie's features as he turned a half-hearted glare on his son. It's effect was minimized by the fact that the 4 other men in the room were crowded around the boy in question, blocking Eddie's sight. Even Casey had gotten out of bed, assisted by Severide of course.
Buck was flushed red from the tips of his ears, disappearing down his neck.
"Christopher why would you say something like that?" Eddie's voice, as usual, seemed to draw all of Buck's attention.
"If I say something else, promise you won't get mad?"
"Christopher..."
"It's not anything bad, dad, I promise,"
"Ok, Chris," Eddie could never deny his son anything when he looked at him like that.
Christopher looked at the other people in the room. His Auntie Hen was giving him an encouraging look, and he nodded at her. TK and Carlos looked mostly confused, but realisation was slowly dawning on Carlos' face. Both Casey and Severide had wide grins on their faces, with no small amount of relief. Chris could relate to that.
"Dad, you're in love with Buck,"
"Christopher–"
"No, let me finish, please," He waited for Eddie to nod reluctantly before continuing.
"Dad, you're in love with Buck and Buck is in love with you. You both love each other, and if you don't believe me, every other person in the room right now will say the same thing. Even Casey and Severide, and they've only known you guys for 10 days,"
"The kids got a point," Severide's voice broke Eddie out of his stupor and he turned to face Buck. If Buck was blushing before, by now he was so red it could almost be alarming.
"Buck, is it true?" Buck refused to look at him, gaze trained resolutely at their feet.
Eddie decided to take a leap of faith and grabbed Buck's hand in one of his own. "Buck, cariño, would you look at me?"
It was the nickname that did it. Buck couldn't keep it in any longer. He flicked his eyes up to Eddie's for a moment before he thought, fuck it, and took the plunge. Eddie realised what Buck was about to do a split second before the blonde's lips crashed against his.
A small disgusted noise came from the door before Hen put her hand over Christopher's eyes. Chris was glad for it. Just because he wanted his dad and Buck to get together, he didn't want to actually watch them get together. TK led the rest of them out into the hallway.
The kiss was nothing like the movies described it. Buck had gotten a little too eager in his nervousness and crashed into Eddie a little too hard, making their lips clack together uncomfortably. It was messy and slightly painful, but Eddie had never had a better kiss in his life.
They settled into it after a beat, pace slowing, the kiss turning warm and soft. Eddie pulled away after god knows how long and pressed his forehead against Buck's. He was panting like he'd run a marathon.
"So does this make you my boyfriend?"
"If you'll have me,"
"Always."
