Stepping inside their shared apartment. Shadow sighs, putting the heavy bags near Rouge’s bedroom door and heading for the couch. The bat sitting across from him. “Okay. Care to explain why you were being so fucking gentlemanly towards Blue?” Rouge asks. “What do you mean?” Shadow replies straightening up from his slouch, “Oh I don’t know, maybe the dopey smile you had at the table, and then the caring attitude towards him getting home, who are you and what did you do to Shadow?”
Shadow only laughs, a genuine bark of enthusiasm. “Sonic asked the exact same thing today” he laughs “But I was more concerned about the fox. His big brother not being home while being harassed by paparazzi, I feel for the kid ya know.” Shadow says slumping back down with arms folded “I know you care about Tails’ wellbeing but excuse me. What do you mean Sonic said the same thing?!” Rouge exclaims sitting on the edge of her seat.
“When you went into that make-up store and we stood outside, Sonic was dancing a little and I might have called it “cute” as it reminded me of kids dancing in public” Shadow explained mimicking quotation marks around the term “cute”. Rouge gasping loudly “You told him that to his face?” A smirk appearing on Shadow’s muzzle “Yup. Besides it doesn’t matter I called him a child right after.”
Now it’s Rouge’s turn to laugh “Hon, you called Sonic cute, after he spent the night here. Without context it seems like you two are a couple. Speaking of last night, what happened?” Rouge sits back up, “Not much, Sonic stood on the patio for a second, staring at the northern lights and a little later we went to sleep, him on the couch and me in my room. Nothing happened.” Shadow says lazily waving his arms around to emphasize where they went. Teal eyes narrowing “So no conversation between you two?”
Shadow scoffed “No we didn’t talk much, He asked what the lights looked like for me. I answered my color and he told me in return.” Rouge gasps once again “He told you his color? That’s so intimate, Tell me.” “What do you mean intimate? You know my color.” Shadow states to an excited Rouge. “But if you’re that desperate to know, Blue” Shadow says.
A snort coming from the bat “No way, I guess Big Blue is a good nickname then. Wait you opened up to him… Dude! What color is the sky for you.” She says almost leaping out of her chair in excitement. Shadow snorts “I didn’t open up to him. its still Yellow.” He says not even looking to the window. “Seriously Shadow, you didn’t even look.”
Shadow stood up and almost made it a show of not breaking eye contact until he stood at the window, slowly turning his head while speaking “Happy now, The northern lights are still ye-. “ being cut off by the sight out the window.
The sky was not being lit up in yellow since years ago. A bright blue flickering in the distance before it harshly blinks back to the familiar yellow. A smug smile on the bat’s face she speaks “Its not yellow is it hon?” The hedgehog blinking for a few moments. “well it is again now.” He says slowly turning to the bat who now looks more concerned “What do you mean?” She asks before getting up and walking to the shocked hedgehog
“It wasn’t yellow but now it is again.” He mutters “Well what color was it?” Rouge asked, now standing right next to Shadow. “Take a guess.” The familiar irritation back in Shadow’s voice. Crimson eyes now boring into teal ones before the hedgehog waltzes off to his bedroom.
A giggle escaping from Rouge as she knows exactly what Shadow saw. A slam of a door being the only thing heard before it goes quiet for a moment. A muffled yell of someone screaming into a pillow coming from behind the door making Rouge laugh loudly. “don’t worry Shadow, your secret is safe with me” She giggles before sitting down on the couch and turning the Tv on.
