Raising Yoongi

Chapter 25

Notes:

Reading Notes:

I will be explaining things that were mentioned in the fic, but were not answered.

Okay so first, Jin and the hybrid association office sued the Animal Shelter Facility. Jin won and got a huge sum of money. He put 50% of the money into a savings account for an emergency and put the other 50% into a savings account to buy a building so he can start his own restaurant.

Next, Charles Williams was sentenced to 5 years in prison, since animal abuse is considered a felony. After prison he will have 2 years of probation and he will also be required to go to anger management classes and therapy for 3 years.
(These are actual punishments that are given for animal abuse from where I’m from, so this is not a punishment I just made up. Just wanted to let you all know in case your curious).

And third, the nightmares that Yoongi used to have were about Jin abandoning him or Jin turning into Master Williams and hurting him. But, Yoongi no longer has those nightmares since he has now realized how much Jin cares for him.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Yoongi yawned as he rolled over on the bed and sat up. He peeled open his eyes and stretched his arms over his head as he looked around the room.

The cat’s eyes went wide as he cocked his head to the side, in confusion. This was Jin’s room. Why was he still in Jin’s room? He should be in Hoseok’s room.

Yoongi quickly looked over at the digital clock on the nightstand and gasped when he saw the time. It was already 9:30 am. He should have definitely been over at Hoseok’s apartment already.

The kitten’s heart began to race very fast. Did Jin forget about him? Was he left home alone? The cat felt sick to his stomach just thinking about being left all alone. He nervously stood up from the bed and looked around anxiously.

It felt like the room’s walls were closing in on him. He began breathing rapidly as he dashed towards the door and opened it. He ran out of the room at full speed and raced down the hallway.

But then suddenly...BAM! The cat crashed into something hard and fell down on the floor. He let out a whimper of pain and clenched his eyes shut as he rubbed his sore forehead.

“Oh my gosh! Yoongs, are you okay sweetheart?”

Yoongi gasped as his eyes flew open. He looked up with shocked round eyes and smiled when he saw Jin rubbing his own sore chin before crouching down to pick the cat up off the floor.

“Hyung!” He said cheerfully.

“Hi, love.” Giggled Jin when he saw the smile of his hybrid’s face. “Where were you running off to in such a hurry?”

A light blush formed on the cat’s cheeks as he looked down at his feet. “I don’t know.” He mumbled.

“You don’t know? It must have been important if you were running that fast.”

“I just...”

“You just, what?” Encouraged Jin.

“I just wanted to leave the bedroom.”

“And why is that, love?” Asked Jin becoming concerned.

“I thought I was alone... I thought you forgot about me.” Pouted the cat as tears fill his eyes.

“Baby, I would never forget about you.” Quickly reassured Jin as he hugged the cat close to his chest.

Yoongi began purring as he listened to his hyung’s calming heartbeat.

After a minute the cat pulled away from Jin and looked at him curiously. “Why aren’t you at work, hyungie?”

“I didn’t go to work today.” Informed Jin.

“Why not?” Asked the cat becoming more curious.

“Because today is a very important and special day.”

“Why?”

“Do you know what today is?” Excitedly questioned Jin.

The cat hybrid thought for a few seconds and looked at Jin with a confused look. “Tuesday?”

“Yes, it is Tuesday!” Praises Jin. “But do you know what else is today?”

Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows and frown. “No.” He said timidly and took a cautious step back, as if he was scared that Jin would get angry at him for not knowing.

Although Yoongi trusted Jin and knew that the human wouldn’t get mad at him over little insignificant things like, not knowing what today was, years of living with Charles Williams had condition the cat to always fear making mistakes. He was always scared of saying the wrong thing, or making a wrong move. But not only that, Yoongi feared humans in general.

He only trusted Hoseok, Namjoon, and Jin. If any other human tried to approach Yoongi, he would quickly hide behind Jin, or any of the other two friends.
He didn’t mean to, but it was like his mind had a mind of its own. No matter how many times Yoongi told himself not to be scared of humans, he couldn’t help the fear that ran through his body the second he saw a stranger getting too close to him.

Yoongi wished he could be as carefree as Taehyung, who would run up to random humans just to get some scratches behind his ears.

But unlike Tae, Yoongi didn’t have good experiences with humans. First and foremost, Charles Williams had abused him physically and mentally for over twenty years.
Then when he finally ran away and was living on the streets, many people would throw things at him, hit him, kick him, and scream at him to get off their property.
And not to mention how a few months back, two humans had catnapped him and locked him in a cage, then two more humans had ripped him away from Jin and gave him away to the man who had abused him his entire life.
So to say that Yoongi didn’t have good experiences with humans was an understatement.

However, not everyone was bad. Some people had given Yoongi food while he was a stray. Yoongi remember a nice woman who had once filled an entire box with fresh food and left it right next to the trash can with a note that had a drawing of a cat hybrid with black point ears like Yoongi’s. The cat was so grateful to have had food for the entire week, but his fear always got the best of him and he never returned to that place again.
Over the years Yoongi had noticed that female humans were always kinder to him, or at least less harsh towards him than males. So he feared them less than males, but never the less, he still feared them.

Jin smiled warmly and gently rubbed his hand across Yoongi’s cheek to calm the cat down.

The human knew Yoongi wasn’t scared of him specifically, the cat was just used to always reacting in fear and it wasn’t a habit that could easily be broken. Jin understood that his precious hybrid had spent his entire life living in fear and a few months of living with Jin was not enough to erase all the damage that had been caused. It would take years to fix the damage, and even then it would never be completely erased.

Jin didn’t mind though, he promised himself to always stay by Yoongi’s side and support him no matter what. He would make sure to make the cat feel as safe as possible, until the day Yoongi’s brain rewired itself so fear wasn’t it’s default mechanism

Jin was actually very impressed with the amount of progress they’ve made so far. Yoongi had blossomed a lot over the course of the last few months. He had become so much more vocal and energized.
He was such a funny, goofy, sweet, loving and energetic cat. But ever once in a while he would relapse back to being the nervous, scared, and anxious cat that he once was. On those days, Jin, Hoseok, or Namjoon would spend the day cuddling him and reassuring him that everything was okay, until he felt safe again and would go back to being his usual sweet-loving self.

After a second, Yoongi’s mind finally realized that it was only Jin in front of him and Jin was safe, so he relaxed and smiled up at his owner as he leaned his head into the human’s hand.

“How about I give you a hint?” Smirked the human as he moved his hand from Yoongi’s cheek to his ear and began lightly scratching it.

The cat hummed contently and nodded his head.

“Okay!” Shouted Jin happily. “So today is March 9th, do you know what that means?”

Yoongi raised his eyebrows and eyed Jin suspiciously.

“I-It’s my....birthday?” He said shyly, unsure if that was the answer Jin wanted.

“Yes!!!” Cheered Jin as he clapped his hands together. “Happy Birthday Love!!!” Shouted the human before pulling Yoongi into a tight hug and kissing the top of his head.

“B-But why did you not go to work?” Asked the cat who was still confused.

“Because today is a special day.” Repeated Jin.

“My birthday is not special.”

Jin gasped and playfully glared at the cat. “Yes, it is!” He gently scolded. “Not only is today your birthday, but it is also your first birthday with me! This is a very special occasion, we have to celebrate. Namjoon and Hoseok are also coming over with the babies to celebrate with us. Aren’t you excited?” Beamed Jin.

Yoongi just shrugged his shoulders and gave an unamused look, however, internally he was smiling joyfully. It made him so happy that Jin thought his birthday was important and he was so touched that the human was going out of his way to celebrate it.

“I know how to get you excited!” Announced Jin. “I will let you open one of your birthday gifts.”

“Gifts?” Gasped Yoongi, no one had ever given him a gift before. He didn’t even know people gave gifts on birthdays until he saw it on tv while watching a movie.

“You got me a gift?” He said in disbelief.

“Of course, my love.” Smiled Jin as he walked over to the laundry room and opened the top cupboard where he knew Yoongi would never look.

He pulled out five different size gift bags and walk to the living room. He set the bags on the coffee table and turned to Yoongi.

“You may choose one gift to open right now. You can open the rest later.”

The cat looked at the bags in shock, he didn’t know which one to choose. He walked over to the biggest bag and picked it up.

“Is that the one you choose?” Asked Jin.

“Mhm.” Nodded the cat.

Jin smiled and comfortingly squeezed Yoongi’s shoulder. “Open it, love.” He encouraged.

Yoongi felt butterflies in his stomach as he tore open the tape that was closing the bag and then pulled out all the tissue paper.

He squealed excitedly when he pulled out a super soft and squishy iced americano plushie with a smiley face on the cup sleeve.

“Oh my gosh! It’s so soft!” Shouted the hybrid as he hugged the plushie close to his chest. “I love it!” He yelled happily.

Jin laughed as he watched his kitten rub his face all over the plushie. The human had learned that his baby loved soft things like blankets, pillows, plushies, etc. So he knew his kitten would love the plushie. His hybrid also loved coffee, although it was very rare for Jin to let him drink it.

Caffeine is bad for young hybrids since their brains are still developing. The caffeine had a tendency to mess with their nervous system, making it so their animal instincts were more dominant while the caffeine coursed through their bodies. And therefore, making them more difficult to deal without and control. But it was especially bad for Yoongi since he suffered from anxiety.

Jin had noticed that the cat’s anxiety and panic attacks would sometime get worst when he drank coffee, but the cat had still developed an addiction to it after taking a few sips of Jin’s coffees. Therefore, every once in a while the human would agree to share his cup with the hybrid, so the cat wouldn’t suffer from terrible cravings. However, when he planned on sharing with the cat, the human made sure to either water down the coffee or add extra milk to it.

“I’m so happy you like it.” Grinned Jin. He hugged his hybrid, then went to sit down on the couch.

The hybrid followed and sat next to Jin, curling up on the human’s side with his plushie hugged against his chest.

Jin wrapped on arm around him and pulled the cat closer.

“What do you want to do today? Hoseokie is coming over after he finishes teaching his last class, which should be in about two hours. And Namjoon is coming over around four or five-ish.”

The cat thought for a little bit, then turned to Jin. “Can we play Mario Kart together.”

“Of course, precious. I’ll set it up.”

Jin stood up off the couch and turned on the Xbox, he then picked up the controllers and started the game.

“Here, love.” He said as he handed Yoongi one of the controllers.

They spent the entire morning playing Mario Kart, while taking quick breaks to eat some snacks and drink some water.

Jin was kind enough to let Yoongi win some rounds to boost the kitten’s confidence, but he was still very competitive so he won most of the rounds himself.

Before they knew it, there was a knock on their front door before Jimin and Jungkook came running into the living room.

“Hi, hyungs!” Yelled Jimin.

“Hi, sweetheart!” Responded Jin.

“Happy Birthday, Yoongi Hyung!” Shouted Jungkook.

“Happy Birthday!” Echoed Jimin.

“Thank you.” Shyly smiled Yoongi as the younger hybrids hugged him.

A few seconds later Hoseok walked out of the kitchen and came into the living room.

“Hello!” He greeted happily. “I put the cake in the fridge.” He also informed Jin.

“Thank you, Hoba!”

“Cake?” Yoongi’s ears stood straight up as he looked over at the humans curiously.

Jin had learned that the cat had quite the sweet tooth, he loved all desserts as long as they weren’t overly sweet.

“Yes, love.” Confirmed Jin. “I ordered you a special fruit cake for your birthday. Hoseok picked it up on his way home from work. We’ll eat it after dinner, okay?”

Yoongi smiled widely before nodding his head.

“Woah, that’s so cool!” Said Jungkook as he looked down at Yoongi’s plushie. He bent down and picked it up, but Yoongi quickly snatched it out of his hand.

“It’s mine!” Shouted the cat while hugging the plushie protectively.

“I just wanted to look at it.” Pouted the bunny.

“No!”

Jimin lowered his ears and cuddled next to Hoseok to hide his face from view as a wave of deja vu hit him.

Jungkook on the other hand glared down at Yoongi, determined to get his hands on the plushie.

“Yoongs, that’s not nice. You need to share. Let Kookie play with your plushie for a little bit.” Scolded the human.

“But it’s mine.” Whined the cat hybrid.

“I know that, sweetheart. But you still need to share. Jungkook will give it back when he’s done playing with it.”

Yoongi looked down at his plushie, then up at Jungkook before shaking his head and hiding the plushie behind his back.

“Yoongs.” Warned Jin in a stern voice. He really didn’t want to punish Yoongi on his birthday, but the cat was being difficult.

“Give Kookie the plushie.”

“Noooo!” Petulantly whined the cat.

“Do you want to go stand in the corner?”

“No!”

“Then let Jungkook see the plushie.”

“No!”

Jin pinched the bridge of his nose and took a calming breath.

“Yoongi-yah,” He said seriously. “I’m not playing, you need to share. If you don’t share, I will return your plushie back to the store since you are clearly not mature enough to have it.”

Yoongi groaned angrily and began kicking his legs. “It’s mine!” He yelled.

“Yes, it is. And it will still be yours while Jungkook plays with it. He’s not going to keep it, he will give it back.” Reassured the human.

Yoongi began sobbing as he picked up his plushie and handed to Jungkook. He didn’t find it fair that he had to share, but he didn’t want his plushie to be returned. He loved it too much, he would be devastated if he lost it.

“Uhm, it’s okay. I don’t want to play with it anymore.” Sheepishly said Jungkook as he ran to sit next to Hoseok on the opposite couch. The bunny hid his face in his owner’s shoulder and lowered his ears sadly, he felt like it was his fault his hyung was crying and it made him feel guilty.

Jin sighed and looked over at Yoongi, who had stopped crying and was now staring down at the plushie with a huge smile.

“That was not nice, Yoongi-yah.” Reprimanded the human. “You need to apologize to Jungkookie.”

The cat frowned and glared at Jin. “But, why? I didn’t do anything.”

“Because you didn’t share with him, that’s very mean. If you don’t share with Jiminie and Jungkookie they’re not going to want to be your friend anymore, and then they’ll stop playing with you.”

Yoongi looked down at his plushie and pouted. He stood up from the couch and walked over to the bunny hybrid.

“Here, Kookie. I’m sorry for not sharing with you.” Whimpered the cat as he laid the plushie down on the bunny’s lap. “I hope you will still be my friend.”

Jungkook smiled and hugged the plushie. “It’s okay, hyungie. I forgive you.” Replied the bunny as he squeezed the soft plushie.

Hoseok grinned and wrapped his arm around Yoongi’s waist to pull him down on his lap. The human then wrapped his arms around the cat and hugged him tight.

“Happy Birthday, kitten!” Cooed Hoseok as he nuzzled his nose against the back of Yoongi’s neck.

“Thank you.” Mumbled the cat with a blush tinting his cheeks.

“I got you a present. I left it in the kitchen. Would you like to open it?”

The cat excitedly whipped his head back to look at Hoseok and nodded his head rapidly.

“Okay, let me go get it.”

Hoseok stood Yoongi off his lap before standing up himself and going to the kitchen. He walked back in with a large gift bag and handed it to Yoongi.

“Here, Yoongs.”

The cat took the bag and began taking out all of the tissue paper. Once all the tissue paper was gone, he pulled out three new hoodies and a chocolate chip cookie plushie.

Yoongi gasped in delight. He set the plushie aside and picked up one of the hoodies. The inside was so soft and warm, it made him purr with happiness as he rubbed his hand over the fabric. The cat carefully brought the hoodie up to his face and inhaled its scent.

The hoodies smelled just like Hoseok, which meant the human must have kept them inside his closet for a while; and the cat knew it was probably on purpose.

The humans knew that Hoseok’s and Jin’s scents were the scents that brought the cat the most comfort. Whenever the cat smelled the humans, he felt safe. So Hoseok had purposely bought the hoodies in advance and kept them in his closet so the cat would be able to smell the human and feel comfortable while he wore the hoodies.

Of course, the scent would fade quickly now that they were going to be in Yoongi’s room. But at least it would bring the cat some comfort the first and maybe second time he wore them. It was the thought that mattered most, and Yoongi appreciated it a lot.

The cat hybrid set the hoodies down on the coffee table, then turned to sit back on Hoseok’s lap so he could hugged the human.

“Thank you so much!” Thanked the eldest hybrid.

“You’re very welcome, love!” Hummed Hoseok while he hugged the cat back.

“Wow, I didn’t even get a hug. I see who your favorite is.” Pouted Jin in a joking manner.

Hoseok and Yoong both laughed, but the cat quickly got up and walked over to his owner to sit in his lap. He wrapped his arms around Jin and gave him a big hug.

“Thank so much, hyung! I love the plushie you got me.”

Jin hugged Yoongi back and gave his back a quick massage. “Your welcome, kitten.”

After a few seconds Jin patted his hybrids butt and and gently pushed him over to sit on the couch cushion.

“I should get started on dinner.” Groaned the eldest human as he stood up and stretched his limbs.

Hoseok got up too and followed his hyung to the kitchen.

“I can help you cook. What are you going to make?”

“Everything.” Grinned Jin.

“Everything?” Questioned the dancer.

“Well, not literally everything. But, I am making all of Yoongi’s favorites.

“But his favorite is literally everything. I have yet to encounter a food that he doesn’t like.” Said Hoseok.

The eldest laughed. “True! He has liked everything so far, but I’ve noticed that he gets extra excited and makes cute happy hums while eating certain foods. I think those foods are the ones he enjoys more and, therefore, his favorite.”

“What foods are those?”

“Meat, he adores meat. So I was planning on making bulgogi, lamb skewers, and grilled pork belly. He also loves kimchi fried rice, japchae, and tteokbokki. So we should start on the meat, that way we can let it marinate for an hour or two before cooking it.”

“Are you really going to make all that food?” Asked Hoseok in disbelief.

“Yeah!” Cheerfully spoke Jin. “I’ll just make small portions of each, that way we can all eat a little of everything. And even if I do make too much, you guys can all take some home and eat the leftovers.”

Hoseok nodded his understanding and walked over to the refrigerator with Jin. They pulled out the different types of meats and began preparing it. Jin worked on the bulgogi, while Hoseok worked on the lamb skewers. They both worked on the pork belly together and soon all the meat was back in the fridge, marinating in there own sauce.

“Okay, I can start on the kimchi fried rice and you can do the tteokbokki. We’ll do the japchae together and then we can grill the meat out on the patio.” Informed Jin.

Hoseok nodded his understanding and began getting all the ingredients to make the tteobokki.

A few hours later Namjoon and Taehyung walked into the apartment and were hit with a mouth watering smell.

They made there way to the living room, then walked out the open patio door.

“It smells terrific!” Hummed Namjoon as he shuffled to where Hoseok and Jin were standing, in front of the grill.

Taehyung went running to join the other hybrids, who were sitting at the opposite end of the patio where the outdoor table and chairs were set up.

“Thank you!” Replied Jin. “Dinners almost ready, can you guys start setting up the table?”

“Yeah, sure!” Said Namjoon. “Are we eating out here or inside?”

“Inside, it’s still too cold to eat outside.” Said Jin.

Hoseok and Namjoon went inside and began setting everything on the huge kitchen island. They took the kimchi fried rice, tteokbokki, and japchae out of the oven, where they were being kept warm, and placed them on the center of the island.

Hoseok then set a plate and glass down at all the chairs, while Namjoon walked around and set the chopsticks and other utensils next to the plates.

A few moments later Jin walked in carrying two large trays, one filled with bulgogi and the other had the skewers and pork belly. He set them next to the other foods, then called the hybrids to come eat.

They all sat down and began eating. Jin smiled happily when he saw how excited Yoongi looked as he ate all the foods.

The human took a moment to admire his hybrid. The cat looked so much healthier than before. He had gained weight, he had gain muscle, and he was no longer suffering from malnutrition. The cat had even gained more color, so he was no longer as pale as a ghost.

He now wore the same size clothes as Jimin and he had the same level of energy as Jungkook. It made Jin beyond happy, his baby had come a long way from where the hybrid use to be.

The eldest human reached over and began scratch the back of Yoongi’s ear. The hybrid immediately erupted into loud purrs, he was so happy to be eating delicious food at the same time as getting some good ear scratches.

“Would you like more juice, baby?” Asked Jin as he pulled away and picked up a pitcher of homemade fruit punch that he had made himself.

The cat instantly nodded eagerly and Jin smiled as he quickly refilled the glass. He then gave his hybrid’s back a quick rub before turning back to eat his own food.

After they finished eating dinner, the three humans, with the help of the three youngest hybrids, quickly cleared the kitchen island and took out the cake. They placed the cake in front of Yoongi and lit the candles.

“Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday Min Yoongi! Happy birthday to you!” They all sang in unison while clapping their hands.

“Now make a wish and blow out your candles!” Excitedly yelled Taehyung.

“Why?” Asked a confused Yoongi. “What’s the point of making a wish?”

“Because, it’s your birthday wish. You have to do it. If you make a wish on your birthday candles, it has a higher possibility of coming true.” Happily explained Tae.

“But what do I wish for?” Questioned Yoongi, still very confused by the tradition.

“Anything you want!”

“Anything?”

“Anything!” Confirmed the puppy hybrid.

“B-but I already have everything I ever wanted.”

“Come on, there has to be something you wished you had.” Teased the pup.

“All I ever wanted was a family and now I got all of you guys, so there’s not much else I want.”

There was a moment of silence before the entire kitchen got filled with loud songs of “Awwww!”

They all walked over and squished Yoongi into a tight group hug.

Once they all pulled apart, Taehyung gave the cat a serious look. “You still need to make a wish.” He said firmly.

“I don’t know what to wish for!” He yelled back light heartedly.

“It can literally be anything. For example, if it was my birthday, I would wish for a dog. I really want one, but Namjoon hyung keeps saying no.”

Yoongi thought about it for a moment then smiled. “I know what to wish for he announced.”

“Alright! Close your eyes, make the wish, and blow out your candles. But don’t say your wish out loud or it won’t come true!”

Yoongi nodded his head before closing his eyes and following Tae’s instructions. Once the candles were blown out, everyone began cheering.

“What did you wish for?!” Eagerly asked the hyper-energetic pup.

“He can’t tell you, or else it won’t come true!” Yelled Jimin as he smacked the pup on the arm.
The two began wrestling and the others laughed as they watched.

“Okay, guys. That’s enough. Let’s eat some cake now.” Joyfully said Namjoon. The two hybrid immediately stopped their fight and looked over at Jin expectantly.

Jin laid a kiss on the top of Yoongi’s head, then began cutting the cake. He handed a piece to everyone and soon they were all eating happily.

Yoongi glanced around with a smile as he watched everyone laughing, eating, and talking. He couldn’t believe he finally had a family. He couldn’t believe he finally had a home.
