Chapter Text
The next big move was to tell their friends who up until now, they have somehow managed to avoid. Although Katsuki could go months without seeing them, Eijirou was active with his friends. He loved going out and hanging out with everyone. Up until now, he’s used the excuse of spending time with his boyfriend but going on week 18 of his pregnancy, Ashido Mina had enough.
Eijirou woke up to his phone buzzing and he answered it groggily.
“Hello?”
“I’m outside.” Eijirou’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull.
“What?!”
“Open the door. I’m outside.”
“I-I’m not home!” Eijirou quickly lied.
“I’ll wait.”
“Wait? I-I’m with my moms!”
“Are you? That’s funny. Because her car is outside your house.”
Eijirou smacked his forehead forgetting his mothers were currently in his home.
“Open the door Eijirou.”
“Mina, listen.”
Knocking came at the door.
“Answer the door, Eijirou!” Ashido shouted and Eijirou shot out of the bed and rushed over to it to stop his mother from answering it.
“Tomorrow!” He told the phone. “I’ll meet you tomorrow. I promise! Just- I can’t today. Please, tomorrow.” Eijirou pleaded and Mina paused on the phone and the knocking stopped. His mother watched him curiously.
“Tomorrow. Lunch. No. Brunch. You treat. And I want every last detail, Eijirou.”
“Okay. I promise.”
The phone cut off and Eijirou exhaled, going to the door and watching through the peephole as Mina turned away and walked back to her car.
“Who’s that?”
“No one…” Eijirou muttered.
“Eijirou.”
“Mina.”
“Why didn’t you invite her in?”
“Because I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and she has no idea.”
“Eijirou, did you tell anyone you were pregnant?”
“I told the people it mattered the most!” He defended and his mother shook her head.
“You better get dressed. Mitsuki will be here soon.”
“Right,” Eijirou sighed. He forgot today was his first ultrasound. He was excited, but sad Katsuki couldn’t get the day off. His mom was here though and Mitsuki was coming with him though, so he wasn’t alone.
He quickly got dressed, in a simple pair of sweats and a shirt and tied his hair up in a ponytail before sliding on a headband and calling it a day. He waited with his mother and ate before Mitsuki arrived and once she did Mitsuki drove them both to Eijirou’s appointment.
Eijirou checked in and waited for him to be called. When he was he squeezed the offered supportive hands he got and entered the room. The sonographer gave a bright smile before explaining what she would be doing. After checking a few things out she asked Eijirou to lay down and raise his shirt. She was very patient with him, talking through everything. Eijirou flinched at the goo on his stomach. Once she placed the machine on his stomach she offered another smile.
“Ready?” She asked and Eijirou squeezed his mother’s hand, Mitsuki his shoulder before he nodded. She moved the machine down his stomach and to the left slightly before adjusting it again and nodding. “There they are!” She told him and Eijirou turned to the screen and stared with wide eyes.
“Oh, Eijirou,” His mother cooed.
Eijirou watched the slightly distorted black and white screen, staring at the baby-shaped blob that was inside of him and he exhaled shakily. He wanted to touch them. Feel them. He still hasn’t felt movement yet, and he really wanted to. He was worried about them. Doctor said they were still small. Nothing to be concerned about but Eijirou couldn’t help but worry.
“Are they okay? Is there anything wrong?” Eijirou asked the nurse who moved the stick around before shaking her head.
“Baby looks perfectly happy and healthy. Oh look,” the nurse moved slightly to gently poke the screen. “They are waving!”
Eijirou’s eyes immediately watered.
“Oh kiddo,” Mitsuki said rubbing at his head and Eijirou sniffed.
“I haven’t felt them move yet, is that bad?” Eijirou asked the sonographer.
“Some babies are more active than others are. But I heard from many mothers that you should cherish these moments.”
“I feel behind,” Eijirou muttered.
“It’s not a race, Eijirou,” His mother reminded him.
“She’s right, kiddo. She said the little one is okay. That is what matters,” Mitsuki reassured.
“Yeah,” Eijirou mumbled, rubbing at his wet cheeks.
“Would you like to know the gender at all?” The nurse asked and Eijirou sniffed and nodded. “They are a boy!”
“Genetics strike again.” Mitsuki sighed. “I knew it would be a boy.”
“A boy is okay, right Eijirou?” His mother asked and Eijirou nodded.
“Yeah,” he said waterly, still watching the screen. A boy. He and Katsuki were having a boy.
“I will get those photos printed out for you.” The nurse said after she turned off the machine and wiped off Eijirou’s stomach. Eijirou was still trying not to totally cry his eyes out. His mother and his boyfriend’s mother supporting him. The nurse returned with a small envelope and Eijirou held it tightly on the way home.
Mitsuki parted with a big hug and Rin waited until Keiko called her leaving Eijirou only an hour before Katsuki was supposed to be home. Eijirou smiled down at the photo he held, his hand rubbing his stomach as he thought about his appointment. Katsuki was going to be so excited. He couldn’t wait to tell him.
His stomach was doing flips when 5 o’clock came and Eijirou waited by the front entrance until he heard the door unlock. Eijirou beamed as Katsuki opened the door.
“Hey,” Katsuki greeted.
“Hi,” Eijirou returned.
They both waited to embrace until Katsuki's shoes were off and as they pulled away Katsuki placed a kiss on Eijirou’s lips.
“How was it?” Katsuki asked and Eijirou smiled.
“Great! Perfectly healthy. Wanna see?” Katsuki’s eyes lit up and Eijirou held up the photo. Katsuki took it and scanned it, letting out a huff as Eijirou came around and rested his head on his shoulder.
“I wish you were there. He waved at us.”
“He?”
“Yeah. They’re a little boy.” Eijirou placed a kiss on his lover’s neck.
“We’re screwed,” Katsuki laughed gently. “Our son in the world? Is it too late to go back?”
“Katsuki!” Eijirou shoved him and Katsuki snorted.
“I’m joking.” He clarified.
“Better be.”
Katsuki wrapped his arms around him, smiling down at him before he rested their foreheads together.
“I’ll be there next time, okay? I really wanted to be.”
“I know,” Eijirou told him. “I know, Katsuki.”
Eijirou let Katsuki make him a big dinner and massage his not even sore back but he knew it made Katsuki feel better to help him out.
“Hey, you work tomorrow right?” Eijirou asked his boyfriend who was currently playing with Eijirou’s hair.
“Yeah.”
“Mina came over today. I think it’s time we tell everyone.”
“None of their damn business,” Katsuki grumbled.
Eijirou huffed, leaning back to look at his mate.
“We should tell everyone. They’ll want to throw a baby shower. You know both our parents want one.”
“Sounds like a pain in my ass.”
“It’ll be fun! But I want you there. I’ll invite everyone over and we can have pizza.”
“Too greasy.” Katsuki declined but Eijirou rolled his eyes.
“A pizza won’t kill me Katsuki.”
“You don’t know that,” Katsuki muttered against his hair and Eijirou snorted.
“Calm down, Alpha. It’ll be fun. We can surprise everyone. I’ll go get the pizzas from the store and wait for everyone to show up and when I come back I’ll surprise them all with my bump! They’ll never suspect a thing!”
“I don’t want you driving.”
“Katsuki.”
“I mean it."
“So you’d rather I walk half an hour?”
Katsuki muttered something under his breath.
“I thought so.”
___
Their plan was set in motion. Eijirou told Mina to come over for dinner and he invited Denki and Hanta. Eijirou insisted Katsuki invite people too and after endless pestering forced him to send a text to Midoroya and Uraraka.
Eijirou excitedly left the home to get the pizzas and waited in the shop for them to be done. He lingered in his car until he got the okay text from Katsuki that everyone was over.
He carried the pizzas inside and kicked off his shoes. He met everyone in the living room and smiled brightly.
“Hey everyone!”
“Ei!” Mina shouted as Eijirou set down the pizzas on the island. They were tall enough to hide his stomach which he was happy with.
“Good to finally see you, man,” Denki said. “Kacchan has been keeping you away!”
“For a good reason,” Eijirou said.
“Oh?” Uraraka asked and Eijirou's smile spread wider as he looked at Katsuki who was pouting.
“Yeah, well, we have some news we want to share with everyone.”
Everyone waited, eyes darting between them both, and Eijirou gestures to Katsuki. Everyone’s head turned to him and Eijirou stepped out from behind the counter walking closer to the group.
“Not that it’s any of your fucking business,” Katsuki explained first, his eyes on his boyfriend. “But-“
“I’m pregnant!” Eijirou shouted and the room let out an audible gasp.”
“You are not!” Mina gawked but her eyes fell to his stomach and she shot up from her space on the couch and ran over screaming.
“But, you can’t get pregnant,” Hanata exclaimed.
“Although unlikely. It’s not impossible,” Midoriya corrected. And Uraraka got up from her spot and came over to Eijirou too.
“How did this happen? How far along are you?! Oh my god! Ei! You’re pregnant!”
“I know!” Eijirou laughed. “I’m 18 weeks in. And it’s, well, kinda a little accident but a good one.”
“Were you planning this?” Midoriya asked.
“Yeah because accidents are planned, Deku,” Katsuki replied sarcastically. “No! Of course, we didn’t plan it!”
“But we are happy with the result.” Eijirou clarified.
“I can’t believe you are the first one to have a baby!”
“And you aren’t married!” Denki shouted. “What’s the deal with that?”
“I’m not planning the wedding while he’s pregnant. He doesn’t need that stress,” Katsuki said.
“Yeah, Denki. Stress is bad for the baby!” Mina recalled and Denki rolled his eyes.
“Oh, please. You know he wouldn’t let Ei lift a finger.” Denki noted, pointing to Katsuki.
“He barely lets me leave the house.” Eijirou teased and Katsuki blushed as Uraraka cooed at him.
“You are so big though! Do you have pictures? Names? Anything?”
“Yeah! Katsuki, get the ultrasound!” Eijirou told him. “We don’t have any names right now but we know it’s a boy.”
“A little boy!” Uraraka squealed.
Katsuki returned with the photo that was snatched from him in seconds.
“Look at him!” Mina cooed, running a manicured name over the glass they had it framed in. “Awe guys come here look!” They all got up and crowded around the two girls and Eijirou took the time to go over to Katsuki and place a kiss on his lips.
“I’m assuming your parents know?” Hanata asked.
“Yeah, but we knew we had to tell you guys too.”
“Damn straight! 18 weeks too late if you ask me!” Mina huffed.
“Are you going to make an announcement on the news?” Midoriya asked.
“No,” Katsuki said immediately. “And you assholes better keep your traps shut! I don’t want a fucking word of this getting out to anyone.”
“Not even the class?”
“Yes, you can tell the class,” Eijirou said, elbowing Katsuki. “We plan on throwing a little party for it.”
“Oh no no no.” Mina shook her head. “ We ,” she corrected, pointing to the group. “Plan on giving you a shower .”
“I don’t know,” Eijirou muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. “Isn’t that tempting fate a little? Besides, showers are so...western.”
“You are getting a shower Eijirou. This isn’t a choice,” Mina stated.
“Well my mom wants to be involved,” Eijirou said.
“And she can be,” Mina stated. “But this is Mina’s party, baby. And when I’m done you're gonna be shitting baby bottle-shaped glitter, you understand?”
“How tacky.” Katsuki grimaced.
“You’re tacky!” She shouted.
___
At 19 weeks, things were starting to get more serious. The realization of the situation was hitting Eijirou hard but nothing hit home harder than a gentle little kick to his bladder.
Eijirou was cleaning dishes up after dinner when he felt it. A little nudge in his stomach. He almost passed it off as his food settling but his hand hovered over the dish he was soaping up and looked down at his stomach.
Again, it happened. Soft, barely there, but a nudge.
Eijirou dropped the dish in the sink, startling Katsuki beside him.
“Fuck, Ei, the hell,” he muttered. “Be careful.”
Eijirou ignored him, his soapy wet hands shooting down to his stomach where he pressed against it. Katsuki watched him intently.
Again, he begged. Do it again.
Under his left hand, he felt it, a nudge. His breath hitched as he looked up at Katsuki with tears in his eyes. Immediately he grabbed Katsuki’s hands and pressed them against his stomach. He waited, holding his breath until again they moved. Katsuki’s eyes widened, his hands coming down over the area.
“Ei…” Their eyes met and Eijirou let out a watery laugh.
“He moved!” Eijirou croaked, throat tight with tears. Katsuki pulled him into a tight hug and Eijirou let out a small sob, suddenly overcome with relief. He knew the baby was okay. He knew they were healthy. He knew they were safe. But feeling him move. Feeling him alive. That was a wave of relief Eijirou couldn’t begin to describe.
Katsuki just held onto Eijirou as he cried for a bit. Feeling a bit silly for doing so but Katsuki didn’t judge him for it. When he was done Katsuki wiped up his face and placed a kiss on his forehead. They finished dishes together and sat on the couch when done. Katsuki resting with his hand over Eijirou’s stomach and Eijirou lounging against him with his phone in his hand.
“Should we,” Eijirou began, looking at his phone screen, “build a nest?”
“A nest? What for?” Katsuki questioned and Eijirou rolled his eyes.
“For your mother,” he deadpanned. “For the baby, Katsuki.”
“That’s what cradles are for, no?”
“I mean, it’s kinda impersonal.”
“No, I meant we built the nest in the cradle,” Katsuki explained and Eijirou tapped his nail to the phone screen.
“This says babies feel safer in nests.”
“Well, what did Kurosaki have to say?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t ask.”
So he did.
“It’s more common than you think to go without a nest!” She explained. “Some omegas even keep babies out of nests on purpose. Sometimes the alpha scent can be too overwhelming for Baby.”
“Will that be a problem for us?” Eijirou worried.
“Only time will tell. Usually, scent sensitivity is noticed early on. It is nothing a patch can’t fix.”
“So it’s okay if we don’t build a nest?”
“If you feel the need to, you may. But it is not required, no. Some parents feel compelled to build nests, but others settle for a nursery. Have you decided on yours yet?”
“No, we have a spare room that’s storage right now but, we haven’t even begun thinking of nursery ideas.”
“Building your nursery is very beneficial. I found doing it together can be very cathartic for both parents as well. A great bonding exercise to prepare you both for Baby. Speaking of, last time we spoke you and Bakugou were coming up with names?”
“Yeah, we are still talking about it. I like Kiseki, but he thinks it’s a little corny.”
“Miracle? A fitting name for your baby.”
“That’s what I said,” Eijirou laughed. “But unless Katsuki comes up with a better one, I’m gonna be firm with this.”
This was their miracle. Their happy little miracle they made together. Unintentionally, but still.
____
“So,” Mina said, flipping open a notebook she pulled out of a stuffed purse. “I need details for this baby shower. Themes. Colors. Names. Ideas. Shoot them off me.”
“Oh, jeez, well. We haven’t really thought of it,” Eijirou admitted. “Katsuki still isn’t sold on Kiseki, but I like it.”
“Names can be left out, that's fine but, you need to give me ideas Eijirou. What about a safari theme shower, huh?”
“Ew,” Katsuki muttered under his breath.
“Oh, like you have any bright ideas, Mr. Father?”
“Yeah, genius. I do.” Katsuki said, handing over the tablet in his hand. Mina took it and Eijirou leaned over to find a Pinterest board of all things open.
“You’re on Pinterest?” Eijirou asked.
“My mom is,” Katsuki clarified.
“Kintaro?” Mina questioned. “The old fairytale?”
“Yeah,” Katsuki said. “Everyone knows it. And our kid is exactly that, a golden boy.”
“Awe, babe,” Eijirou cooed and Katsuki shoved him.
“That could work with my safari theme,” Mina says. “After all, Kintaro was raised by several animals.”
“Colors can be gold and red like Kintaro! And red is my favorite color!” Eijirou exclaimed and Mina beamed.
“Then it is settled. Now onto food.”
____
20 weeks into his pregnancy Eijirou found himself in the hospital. Though, not for himself for once. Katsuki took a nasty hit on the job and Eijirou was by his bedside holding his hand as Katsuki slept.
The situation made Eijirou do what he knew he shouldn’t do, worry. Of course, it was bad for the baby but how could Eijirou not worry when his mate was injured? The situation settled uncomfortably in Eijirou’s gut. What if the situation was reversed? What if Eijirou was still working and ended up in the hospital? What if something happened to the baby? Were they thinking this through? Were they making the right choices? Could two pro heroes really be parents too?
Something squeezing his hand snapped his attention away from his thoughts and his eyes shot up to Katsuki who was watching him.
“You’re stressing me out, I can only imagine how the kid feels,” Katsuki muttered and Eijirou cupped his hand in his, his bottom lip trembling.
“Katsuki, are we doing the right thing?” He wondered and Katsuki watched him. “Can we really be parents? Can we really do this? What if something happens to us? What if something happens to him?”
“Ei,” Katsuki sighed. “You are stressing out over nothing.”
“It’s not nothing Katsuki!” Eijirou argues. “This is serious! We-We are gonna have a kid! And, we-we just-” Eijirou cut himself off with a harsh sniff. Bringing his hands up to his face to wipe at the oncoming tears.
“Ei, come here,” Katsuki told him, scooting over in bed. Eijirou crawled into it, hugging Katsuki to the best of his ability. Katsuki kissed the top of his head and nuzzled it after he was done. “You are gonna make yourself sick if you worry like this,” he told him. “This isn’t the first time I’ve been here. And you know it won’t be the last, but this isn’t gonna kill me. Nothing will.”
“You don’t know that,” Eijirou argued and Katsuki raised his face to meet his gaze.
“I do,” he said. “Nothing will take me away from you and him,” Katsuki promised. “You got me?”
Eijirou nodded and Katsuki pressed a kiss to his lips.
“Now get the doctor,” Katsuki muttered. “I’m already sick of this place.”
____
At 22 weeks pregnant, Eijirou went shopping with Katsuki
“What about green?” Eijirou suggested picking out a sample from the row of paint colors. “Like, jungle themed? Adventurer!”
“That’s so lame,” Katsuki snorted but humored his spouse by looking over the color. “I’d prefer more of an olive color.”
“Baby stuff is supposed to be pastel though. What about a nice mint?”
“Or we can go olive and he’d grow into the room as he grew older and that saves us the headache of having to repaint,” Katsuki suggested and Eijirou frowned.
“Or the pale blue option would work too. A little feminine for when he’s older but that’s okay. Cornwall can be manly too!”
“How about we mix both?” Katsuki offered, taking the pale blue and replacing it with a more royal color then replacing the olive and pastel palette with an alpine green one. “We decorate with foliage. Fake of course.”
“Or we can do gold accents! Like stars and moons! For our little prince!” Eijirou beamed and Katsuki leaned down to kiss him.
“And navy bedding for when he is older.”
“White for now so it’s easier to bleach.”
Eijirou plucked a gold sample off the wall and went over to the clerk with their paint colors in hand.
The two were finally getting to the nursery. They delayed it long enough but with the baby shower in a few days, they couldn’t delay it any further. But now with the paint colors selected, the two headed back home with Eijirou checking off a list on his phone.
“Your mom said she’d give us a cradle,” Eijirou said, checking it off. “My mom will give us a stroller. Your mom said she’d give us your old baby clothes she still has. My mom still has my old toys.”
“Don’t forget the added shit from the shower,” Katsuki reminded and he nodded.
“Yaomomo will give us a car seat. We bought the changing table already. Dresser is at home. We still need a playpen, bookcase, and whatever else we don’t get from the shower.”
“Sounds good,” Katsuki said, turning off the car. Katsuki carried the paint inside, refusing to let Eijirou carry it and Eijirou held open the door for him. The two made their way to the nursery where everything was already prepped and ready, paint rollers were already on the covered floor.
“Ready to get to work?” Eijirou asked and Katsuki nodded.
They got to work, Eijirou filling the silence with his humming as they primed and painted the walls until the sun was no longer in the sky. By the time they were done they were only partially covered in paint and the walls looked great so neither one complained.
“Got a new mark,” Katsuki noted as they two soaked in the bathtub together. Eijirou looked down at his stomach to where Katsuki was stroking. The stretch mark was obvious against his skin and it wasn’t his first either.
“Yeah,” he mused. Katsuki rubbed a hand over his bloated stomach, nuzzling Eijirou’s neck as he did so.
“He’s kicking,” Katsuki said and Eijirou huffed.
“When is he not?”
“That’s good though.” Katsuki kissed his neck. “I love feeling him kick.”
“He likes it when you are here. You saw how active he was during the sonogram.”
“Little shit wouldn’t stay still.”
“You think he’ll be an alpha?” Eijirou asked out of curiosity.
“I don’t know,” Katsuki bemused. “Mom says he will be. She’s certain he’ll come out looking more like me than you.”
“I don’t know, my black hair genetics are pretty strong.”
Katsuki snorted, removing his hands from his boyfriend.
“Alright let’s go to bed.”
Katsuki helped dry Eijirou off, holding his hand as he led his mate to the bedroom. The house smells faintly of paint but neither minded as they tucked themselves into bed.
___
At 23 weeks pregnant, Ashido Mina held Eijirou’s baby shower. It was at their home because Katsuki didn’t want to have to carry all the shit they’d get back home from some other location.
Nearly everyone came or promised to stop by when their shift was over. It meant a lot to Eijirou to see everyone and he did end up crying a few times.
“I can’t remember the last time everyone was together like this,” he cried and Mina rubbed his back giving Katsuki an amused look.
“Ei, I swear you cry over spilled milk,” she laughed and Eijirou joined her because she was right.
Food was served thanks to the Bakugou’s and while everyone ate and mingled, Eijirou opened presents. Most were toys like they suspected, some went overboard with their generosity which also moved Eijirou to tears. Clothes were piled high next to books, toys, bottles, blankets, sheets, bibs, and many other small little things their baby was going to love.
Games were played throughout the entire event, Eijirou sucking at a lot of them. But as the party winded down and the guests trickled away to only a few, Eijirou found himself exhausted. Mina and the gang helped clean up while he rested his feet. Katsuki was organizing all the new items they got in the newly finished nursery and Eijirou wanted to help but every time he got up someone was there to sit him back down.
In the end, Mina was the final one to leave, giving Eijirou a big hug and kiss before departing and Eijirou sighed once everyone was gone. The house was spotless as if the party never happened and he felt a little sad by it but he’d have the memories and photos taken on his phone.
___
At 25 weeks pregnant Eijirou sat alone in the nursery taking everything in. By now they had everything ready and prepared. Eijirou’s hospital bag was at the foot of the bed, and Katsuki was asking daily if he was okay. Eijirou still had a couple more weeks left until his due date, but with Mitsuki’s premature birth, Kurosaki said it was best to prepare for anything.
Eijirou sat in the room, a hand rested over his belly lazily rubbing it as he looked around the room. Katsuki watched from the doorway for a moment. Taking in his husband before he leaned over and flicked on the light. Eijirou winced against it but blinked a few times to adjust his eyes. He turned slightly to offer a tired smile up at his mate who returned it.
“How was work?” He asked and Katsuki entered the room and went over to him. He knelt down to place a kiss on his head.
“Fine. How are you?” He replied with and Eijirou took in the slightly sweaty sheen on his face and huffed in amusement. Katsuki must have rushed home.
“Tired. He’s keeping me up,” Eijirou said, turning to his stomach. Katsuki reached down and rubbed the swollen stomach, smiling when he felt a soft kick. “He likes it when you are here. He’s settling down.”
“Doesn’t feel like it,” Katsuki laughed, feeling another kick.
“Trust me, he’s calmer. He’s got too much fight in him.”
“He wants out already.”
“Just a little bit longer, Baby,” Eijirou said to his stomach. He winced suddenly. “Ow, fuck that was my bladder.”
“Doesn’t like your answer,” Katsuki snorted. “You be nice.” He told Eijirou’s stomach. “Your dad is working hard to keep you happy in there. You treat him right, you hear?”
Eijirou exhaled feeling the baby shift inside him.
“Better?”
“A little. I have to pee, though. Help me up?” Katsuki helped his mate to his feet and helped him to the bathroom where he finished his business and washed his hands before being assisted to the couch where he was given a much-needed foot rub.
“Anything fun happen at work?”
“Same shit, different day.” Katsuki shrugged and Eijirou hummed, eyes already closing. “Did you eat?”
“Yeah, I had leftovers.”
Katsuki nodded though Eijirou couldn’t see it.
“Come on, Ei. Let’s get to bed. I don’t want you hurting your back on the couch.”
“Carry me?” Katsuki snorted but obeyed. He carried Eijirou like a bride to the bedroom where he was delicately set down on the bed. Eijirou smiled up at Katsuki, giving him a kiss before he pulled away and crawled into his side of the bed.
“You already talked to your manager about getting time off, right?”
“It’s all handled. Don’t worry. I keep telling you it’s not good for the baby.”
“I can’t help it. I’m nervous,” Eijirou admitted. “It’s the final stretch. Only a couple more weeks.”
“I’m nervous too but you need to still take care of yourself. Even after he’s out. I’ll be here to help too. I promise, however long it takes,” Katsuki vowed, kissing Eijirou once more. “Now get some sleep, okay?”
“Yeah, okay.”
___
28 weeks in and Eijirou felt something. A sharp pain that woke him up. He jolted slightly, his hand immediately going to his stomach where the pain was at. He exhaled slowly, letting the pain pass. Kurosaki warned him of fake contractions and he felt them before but this was different.
Something inside Eijirou told him this was different.
Eijirou reached over and shook Katsuki’s shoulder.
“Katsuki,” he said. “Katsuki, wake up!”
“What?” Katsuki asked. “What’s wrong?” He yawned.
“I think something is wrong,” Eijirou panicked, hands over his stomach. “I just felt something and-ah! Fuck!” Eijirou doubled over, clutching his stomach as he inhaled sharply. “Fuck! Katsuki!”
“Shit okay,” Katsuki shot out of the bed and was tugging on pants before throwing Eijirou’s hospital bag over his shoulder. “Can you walk? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I think I can,” Eijirou muttered shifting and slowly getting out of the bed. He shuffled over to the front door, Katsuki hovering over him as the two slid on their shoes and headed out the door. Eijirou felt another sharp pain in the car and cursed, Katsuki squeezed his hand and Eijirou breathed through it like Kurosaki taught him to.
The hospital ride was twenty minutes and Eijirou felt three more sharp pains in that time. He struggled to walk, Katsuki borderline carrying him into the hospital. The receptionist paged a nurse immediately and Eijrou was carried away with Katsuki on his heels. The nurse asked questions as she pushed Eijirou and he answered to the best of his ability.
“What’s wrong?” Eijirou panicked at the nurse. “Is something wrong?”
“Sounds like you are going into labor,” the nurse told him and Eijirou whimpered.
“But I’m not due for weeks!”
“Premature babies happen all the time,” the nurse reassured, getting Eijirou into a room and with the help of Katsuki, getting him on the bed. “Rest assured, we will find out what’s wrong.” The nurse promised and Eijirou whined, reaching for Katsuki who offered out his hands.
“Kat,” Eijirou panted, feeling sick. “Kat what if something goes wrong? What if he’s not okay? Katsuki I-”
“Hey, sh, shh,” Katsuki hushed, rubbing at the scent gland on Eijirou’s wrist. Eijirou tried to steady his breathing, failing but still comforted slightly by his mate. The door to the room opened and a tall pink woman stepped inside.
“Kirishima-san?”
“Yeah.”
“My name is doctor Kimu. Nurse tells me you are experiencing sharp pains?”
“Yeah. Yeah.”
“Have you experienced contractions before?”
“L-Little ones but this doesn’t feel like that.”
“Pregnancies are different for males, with no way to escape the contract process is more painful due to the build-up of fluids. We will need to begin the c-section. Are you ready?”
“Yeah! Are-Is he gonna be okay?” Eijirou asked and the doctor smiled.
“I will do everything I can to ensure your baby is okay.”
“Can I stay?” Katsuki asked.
“You may but I insist you put on a mask and scent patch. The nurse will help prepare you,” the doctor said. “If you two have no other questions, let’s get started.”

Eijirou blinked open tired eyes. Blearily he looked around the hospital room, feeling pretty groggy and not much else. His sleepy eyes trail down the walls and to his left where he found Katsuki holding his hand and fast asleep. Eijirou smiled slightly, trying to squeeze his hand but barely managing it before his eyes shut once more and he was out again.
____
Next time Eijirou awoke he was feeling significantly less sleepy. Still overall numb but he suspected the drips above had something to do with that. His hand was still held but this time Katsuki was awake and watching their hands closely. He seemed lost in thought, his gaze far away.
Eijirou squeezed his hand and Katsuki’s gaze snapped up to his. Concern now laced his eyes and Eijirou tried to offer a smile to help but Katsuki only reached out with his free hand to cup his face.
“Hey,” he says gently. “How do you feel?”
“Pretty numb,” Eijirou admitted and Katsuki nodded.
“I’ll get the nurse in here,” Katsuki muttered, reaching out to press a button. They waited in silence until the nurse arrived, Katsuki’s distant gaze returned and Eijirou wanted to ask what was wrong but the nurse entered before he got the chance.
“Hello,” the nurse said with a smile as she pulled out the chart. “How are we feeling?”
“Fine,” Eijirou replied. “Numb for the most part.”
“We will ween you off the medication when your wounds have had a bit longer to heal. May I look at your stomach?” She asks gesturing and Eijirou for the first time looked down at it. He blinked confused for a moment wondering when the size went down when suddenly he remembered.
“Where’s the baby?” He asked with wide eyes and the nurse glanced at Katsuki.
“Let her see your stomach, Ei,” Katsuki says and Eijirou places a hand over the gauze.
“Katsuki.”
“The baby is fine,” the nurse said. “The surgery was...successful.”
“Surgery? My pregnancy you mean?”
Once again the nurse glanced at Katsuki.
“That...too was successful.”
Eijirou turned to Katsuki who wasn’t meeting his gaze.
“Katsuki,” he demanded. “Bakugou Katsuki you look at me right now and tell me what the fuck is going on.”
“They said he didn’t stand a chance, Ei!” Katsuki blurted. “He was too small. The fucking-hernia or whatever it-“
“Hernia?!”
“A diaphragmatic hernia,” the nurse corrected.
“What the hell is that?” Eijirou asked.
“It’s a birth defect. There was a hole in your baby’s diaphragm. Some organs passed through and-“
“Oh my god, he’s dead.” Eijirou panicked. “Is that what you are saying!?”
“No, Kirishima-San, your baby is alive and well, all things considered.”
“Then what’s wrong? Why-why are you upset?” Eijirou asked his husband.
“Admittedly, chances of survival are..low right now. Because of the defect, your son’s lungs need assistance until they recover. Your baby was born prematurely as well, which can have complications of its own. Until your son’s lungs develop fully, it’s unclear whether or not he will make a recovery.”
“But he’s okay? Right now?”
“Yes, he is okay.”
“He’s okay, Katsuki,” Eijirou tried to tell his husband. “He’s okay!”
“They suggest I fucking get shit in order in case he fucking dies , Eijirou.“
“Katsuki…”
“I had to fill our fucking f-funeral shit like-sign papers and-he doesn’t even- he’s not even-“
Eijirou pulled his sobbing husband into his chest as best he could.
“Katsuki he’s okay,” Eijirou told him.
“You didn’t fucking see him, Ei. He fucking-”
“I don’t need to see him. I know it. I know he’ll be okay. He’s our son. He’s a fighter.” Eijirou told his mate, holding onto his face. “Our son is going to fight this. He’ll win. He’s a winner, just like his dad.”
Katsuki sniffed, pulling away slightly to rub at his face and get his emotions back in check. Eijirou let the nurse look over his stomach before she rewrapped it and left them. The two held their hands together in silence. A part of Eijirou really wanted to see his son. He spent nearly nine months carrying the damn kid and now he’s out and he doesn’t even get a chance to hold him.
Eijirou sniffed slightly, rubbing at his face as he exhaled.
“He’ll be okay,” he told himself. And Katsuki nodded.
____
Four days later, Eijirou was permitted to leave the hospital. He did it with Katsuki, but not before they stopped by the nursery to look at their son. They weren’t allowed inside because of contamination and their son’s already weak immune system, but they could look through the glass.
“Katsuki,” Eijirou exhaled. Pressing himself up against the glass.
“He’s small, like you.” Katsuki teased as the two watched the baby wiggle slightly before stilling. Their son was in a little incubator-looking thing. Tubes connected to him as he wiggled once more. His mitten-covered hands reaching out and back in.
“Shut up, he is not,” Eijirou laughed.
“Kinda ugly too. Maybe that’s from me.”
“Oh my god, Katsuki. Leave him alone, he’s on death’s door.”
“Like a baby bird or something. I’d not know. Do all babies look like that or is this a genetic thing?” Eijirou punched his husband in the arm, the two laughing away the stress of the situation. “I guess Kiseki turned out to be a fitting name.” Eijirou smiled.
“Yeah, guess so.”
___
It took 12 weeks for Eijirou and Katsuki to receive a call from the hospital telling them the good news. Although his lungs were different sizes, Kiseki was ready to come home. His lungs would heal in time, and he should suffer no long-term consequences from his surgery. He even got a scar across his belly which Katsuki said would no doubt be one of many to come.
The two were eager to have their baby. Watch the nurse carry him out of the nursery and hand him over to Eijirou who scooped him up. He beamed as Kiseki wiggled before settling down in his arms. Katsuki lifted the little hat on his head laughing at the black hair underneath.
“Guess you were right,” he said and Eijirou pressed a kiss to Kiseki’s forehead.
“Hey baby,” he cooed, rocking him slightly. “You’re gonna come home with us now, yeah? We have everything ready for you. You are gonna love it.”
The ride home was tense, Katsuki driving probably the safest he’s ever been. The two came inside quickly and shut and locked the door and exhaled a sigh of relief.
They were home. Baby was safe.
“Hey,” Katsuki muttered. “I want to hold him.” Eijirou reluctantly gave Kiseki up, instead opting to pull out his phone and take a photo of the two of them. He sent it to his parents, Katsuki’s parents, and the group chat for his friends before setting the phone down and going back over to his little family.
“Welcome home, Kiseki,” Eijirou told the baby, kissing his cheek and rubbing his nose against it when done.
“Nearly gave your papas a couple of heart attacks,” Katsuki said to the baby.
“But he’s home, our Kiseki is home.” Eijirou smiled, wrapping an arm around Katsuki. His little family.
