Chapter Text

Does Technoblade Have an Unfair Advantage in Minecraft Monday as a Hybrid?

By Rose Wright

The first two weeks of Minecraft Monday have now passed, leaving Technoblade— a piglin hybrid— as the winner of both weeks. He is just fifteen and yet is able to beat both new champions and old ones.

This should not be possible. He has been paired with weaker fighters compared to his rivals, and even with that setback he manages to win.

His status as a hybrid may be the driving factor that has led him to victory these last two weeks. Piglins are known for their sharp instincts, tough skin, and fighting skills. These instincts and biological advantages help Technoblade greatly in combat, as you can see in his performances thus far in Minecraft Monday.

He should not be allowed to participate in any competition that is not between other hybrids. Technoblade should go back to where he came from and leave the normal people to compete in Minecraft Monday on their own.

Wow! I hadn’t heard of Techno before MCM, is he known for cheating?

Yolonatural | 7 min ago

God, stop making fake controversies. At least cover something more interesting than some rando tournament

They should remove Techno from MCM!! #BanTechno

The first two tournaments were easy enough. They teamed him with other strong fighters, but in the course of battle, he’d realized something. Despite training his whole life for this… Techno had never fought with a sword before.

His attacks were weaker than he’d like, but with strong teammates, he had won.

That wouldn’t go this week. The other competitors looked at him with pity and fear. Maybe, it was his hybrid status. Maybe, it was the blood on his hands. Maybe, it was the fact that he’d been teamed with the worst fighter in the ring this week.

Techno sighed as he began the long trek to the training rooms. Back in Blitz, he did these treks at least three times a day. Quackity made the long walks fun with banter and grins and laughter. But, there was no friend here— no one to stand by his side and whisper they don’t matter, we’ll be out of here soon enough.

Most of all, he missed Quackity’s feathers. The bright yellow spots across his bedsheets. The feather placed on his ear— “It makes you look pretty, Techno! Keep it on!”— and Quackity’s smiles. Waking up to his best friend’s feathers scattered through his fur. Once, one of the feathers had stayed on him until the middle of a fight.

Quackity had joked about it for weeks afterward. Even now, years after the event, Techno smiled at the memory. Quackity molted on his bed on purpose after that day, leaving hundreds of his feathers behind. Techno had never stopped him. He wondered if they were still there.

His throat burned, but he wouldn’t cry here. Not in the middle of the hall— not in front of dozens of strangers.

His fingers massaged his throat. It’s okay, Quackity’s voice whispered. You’re okay! We’re going to be fine, they can’t afford to hurt us… and no one here wants to hurt us!

He was right. Quackity was always right. Techno sighed. His fingers began to trace the scars around his throat. They were from the collar, from the first nights of running away with Quackity. It had activated the moment they left the stadium. The two of them fell to the floor, electricity running through their small bodies.

Quackity’s wings had slammed into the dirt for what felt like hours, bruising and breaking the fragile bones until morning came. By that time, the two of them were unconscious from the pain. Neither of them could remember much of that night. All they had of it were Quackity’s injured wings and their scars.

Quackity’s scars went all the way around his left shoulder. Long, thin fractals of scars. Quackity said it was beautiful. That it would become a memory they could recall later and laugh at.

Techno wasn’t laughing now. In fact, no one was. People were staring at him. Looking at his scar with fear.

While Quackity’s scars had gone down around his shoulder, Techno wasn’t nearly as lucky. His scar crawled up his cheek, circling around his eye and settled on the bridge of his eyebrow. It left almost half his face covered in scars.

It was easier to intimidate people with it, Techno reasoned. He made it work.

(Quackity’s hand brushed lightly against the scar. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I asked you to run, and I’m—”

Tears poured down his friend’s cheeks as he held the side of his scarred face. “It’s not your fault.” It wasn’t. They were just kids— just impulsive little kids with no one to tell them no. “It’s their fault for hurting us.”

Because, if it wasn’t Quackity’s fault, and it wasn’t their fault— then it was his fault. The scars around Quackity’s shoulder would be his fault. Any wounds Quackity got in the arena would be his fault.

And as he stared into Quackity’s brown hopeful eyes, Techno knew he would kill for him would burn the world down, if he had to. Just to make sure Quackity could smile and laugh without the threat of pain.)

He sighed. Techno was free of the collar, but Quackity wasn’t. Techno was free to make his own choices, but Quackity wasn’t .

He’d won ten-thousand dollars, but it wasn’t enough. No one here respected hybrids. If he managed to get Quackity here, they would destroy him.

Techno would find a nicer server,— a kinder server— and they could live there together. They would be free to run across the fields, free to fly high in the air without a care. There would be no one to stop them.

And they would be happy.

But first, he had to get stronger. He couldn’t depend on his partners to be strong anymore.

Techno opened the door to the training room with a flourish Quackity would have appreciated. He hoped no one would be there to watch him struggle, but unfortunately, someone was.

A man was throwing knives at a target, a loud thump echoing through the room as each knife embedded itself in the target. Techno took a moment to watch, transfixed as one went flying to the head, another to the throat, and a third into the leg. The man stepped forward, grabbing each of the knives.

Techno stood at the entrance, watching him. He wore light green clothes and a bucket hat. Quackity would’ve made some joke about it if he were here. Techno smiled at the thought of his friend.

Large mechanical wings laid heavy on his back. They did not twitch as Quackity’s did, nor did they have colorful feathers. They were folded back for now, but he’d surely have noticed another hybrid in the tournament.

Surely, he would have.

“They aren’t real,” the stranger murmured. He turned to face Techno, bright blue eyes staring at him. “Techno, right?”

He nodded. “They aren’t real?” He just couldn’t wrap his mind around it— why would someone fake wings?

“No, no. I can’t fly with them, is all. I did get them legitimately!” The man smiled as he spoke, his arms shifting as he spoke— expressing his feelings with his arms and face where Quackity would have puffed out his wings and laughed.

It was easy to understand Quackity— to know that if he gave him something shiny, he would love it. To know that when his wings shifted to flap around them, he was excited.

As he watched the man move his arms,— move his legs, move his body— Techno knew that someday soon, he would understand these people’s mannerisms just as he understood Quackity. It would just take time and experience.

Time and experience he would have to gain sooner rather than later.

“What’s your name?”

“Oh.” Blue eyes looked at him a moment longer, taking in his scarred face. “I’m Phil.”

Techno held out his hand with a smile that didn’t quite meet his eyes. “It’s nice to meet you, Phil. Do you train here often?”

Phil smiled back, something big and joyous. Is everyone like that? Techno wondered. Phil and Quackity had such similar smiles. Big and happy and always directed to him. Maybe, they were related… they both had wings, after all.

“Yeah, I do, actually.” Phil laughed, his wings still and unmoving against his back. His skin crawled the longer he looked at them. “You’re a pretty strong fighter... do you want to spar sometime?”

And looking into the face of a man who smiled just like Quackity and wings just like Quackity and was free —

“Sure.”

Phil laughed, and soon enough Techno was laughing alongside him.

[Video Transcript:

Interviewer: Hello! I’m here with Technoblade, the two-time champion of Minecraft Monday.

Technoblade: Hello.

Interviewer: So… I have a few questions for you. You’re… fifteen, right?

Technoblade: Yep.

Interviewer: Interesting, could you tell us about how you got into fighting?

Technoblade: Well… I’ve been fighting for a long time. Since I was born, I think. I lived in Blitz my whole life, until I was invited to Minecraft Monday.

[Technoblade chuckles.]

Technoblade: It’s really… different here.

Interviewer: How so?

Technoblade: Well… in Blitz we were all hybrids, so it’s different being the only hybrid here. But, also… I guess I miss the people, mostly.

Interviewer: Is there anyone in particular?

Technoblade: Well… my best friend is still in Blitz. He’s the reason I joined the tournament, actually. I want to be able to win enough that we can both be able to live our lives how we want to. So that we only have to fight if we want to, you know?

Interviewer: I understand completely.

[The interviewer laughs.]

Interviewer: Well, that’s all the time we have today! Check in next week for another interview with the winners of Minecraft Monday!

Love the interview!! Honestly really excited to see if we’ll ever get to meet Techno’s friend!!

Dear Techno,

I hope things have been good for you lately! I managed to catch last week’s tournament. You did really well! I still get chills remembering that 1v3 you did! You looked so cool beating them all!!

Life’s been fairly quiet in Blitz, but you know how it is. A new bracket for solos is getting announced tomorrow, so you’ll hear back then whether I can show up to support you next week or not! I hope I can.

It’s only been a little over a month since you left, but it feels like months. Do you feel the same?

Someone new moved into our room. Nathan, from the Ender Brothers. He’s really nice when he’s not fighting! He doesn’t care about my molting and is really quiet. Apparently, there’s been a lot of new transfers, so they’ve been switching up a lot of rooms.

Your best friend,

Quackity.

The week Quackity was able to come watch the tournament live, Phil was Techno’s partner. It all coincided beautifully into a great day. The public had been demanding more of a challenge, so the administrators complied and finally gave him a good teammate.

Phil laughed when he saw that they were teamed. Some of the other teams had pretended to give up right then and there.

Techno was usually given the weakest players and expected to win. Maybe, it was for the best that he hadn’t won for the last three weeks. At least it gave him this.

A fun day to spend winning with Phil, then to celebrate with his best friend.

It had been more than a month since Techno had seen Blitz. Sometimes, he liked to think he couldn’t remember it anymore. He liked to think he could forget the pain of electricity coursing through his skin.

Though, he would always remember Quackity— his infectious joy— and know his time with Blitz was not… all bad.

There were always good times,— always moments where he could smile and laugh— and there always would be. As long as Quackity was there, a bright light by his side.

An angel by his side.

Techno smiled, wide and carefree. The artificial wind whipped against his fur. Phil ran ahead of him, eyes fixed on the two remaining teams. They were the only ones with diamond swords.

He took a moment to scan the crowd, searching for his friend’s bright yellow wings. There was a surprising amount of hybrids here. Techno chuckled, his heart warm. They were here to see him .

“Techno!” Phil called out as he parried the other team’s attacks. “Need some backup!”

“Coming!”

In less than a minute, everyone else was dead. Blood and gore covered their armor. Luckily, all they had to do was place it on the ground for someone else to clean it up for next week.

It was simple and easy.

The walk to the fighters-only part of the server was quiet. He’d won another five-thousand dollars to go toward freeing Quackity. Apparently, it didn’t cost too much to request a fighter from Blitz. It had only cost them forty-thousand dollars to request him, after all.

Then… he only had to win seven more battles to be able to free him. Seven more battles and they would never have to fight ever again.

“Techno!” Quackity called, running toward them. “Oh my god! That was amazing! You two did so well!” Quackity’s wings were much larger than when he’d left. Before, he had no chance of flying, but now…

Phil’s wings were fake,— an elytra, gifted to him from “Her”— but large enough to glide with. Quackity’s wings rivaled even the size of Phil’s. He was only fifteen. Techno wondered how big they would grow to be

Techno laughed as he listened to Quackity drilling Phil about his wings. (“Who is She— Phil, Phil, as Techno’s friend you have to tell me! You can’t walk away from me!”) It was nice to be away from everything for a moment.

And yet, Quackity’s collar sat there, active and ready to electrocute his best friend. And yet, Quackity would still have to return to fight another day.

They weren’t free yet.

But, they were happy... despite everything.

Phil and Quackity got on like a house on fire. Quackity had no idea that a friendship like theirs wasn’t the norm and began to work to become as close with Phil as he was with Techno.

Now, there was a second letter being delivered to him.

Dear Phil, each began.

Now, there was a second letter he helped deliver every night.

It was nice, seeing his two best friends becoming close with one another. Phil still made time to train with him nearly everyday, and Quackity still sent him nightly letters. They didn’t forget about him, and he did not forget about them.

Techno smiled at the thought of his friends. It had been so long since he was seven and alone. Now… now, he had two best friends he would do anything for.

Two angels forever by his side. An angel of creation, and an angel of destruction.

He smiled as he signed off his letter for the night.

Love,

Technoblade.

[Theory] Technoblade references a “friend” in a lot of interviews,, I was curious and realized no one else had theorized on who it is! The options:

Nathan or Ciro — two Endermen hybrids from Blitz. They still operate there. They’ve fought Techno before.

Amanda — ram hybrid from Blitz. Only fought him once or twice.

Quackity — a duck hybrid from Blitz. They teamed up a lot for duo fights in Blitz.
