Chapter Text
10 years later…
The view from their balcony never tired the couple. At daytime, the main street of New Orleans was buzzing with life: lively jazz music, squeals of excited young children and the blaring of horns as cars tried to get by the traffic. At night, it was contrastingly different, even though the city was full of life 24/7. Night walking Vampires roamed the streets as drunkard humans stumbled out of clubs, unaware of the wrath to face them. Pop music was blaring from multiple directions from different clubs and squeals were usually from hyper, drunk girls parading down the streets. Either way, it never grew tiresome for Caroline. In fact, she’d often sit out on the balcony, even at night, after helping Lizzie to sleep or coax herself into a state of relaxation. Generally speaking, it tended to help keep the vampire calm because living with Klaus wasn’t easy in the slightest. It was true to say that she had grown to love him and their family, but it didn’t come without its problems, and there were many issues. But then again, the Mikaelsons were far from what one would call a normal family. On many occasions, Caroline had to separate one sibling from another, Klaus usually being one of them while Rebekah or Kol were the other.
Speaking of Kol, he was currently living in a lavish home with his wife Bonnie. After their immaculate wedding, followed by their calming honeymoon abroad, Bonnie had spoken to Kol about her wishes to have children, which he initially refused and the couple exchanged many drearily long ‘conversations’ (as Bonnie referred to it, even though everyone was aware that they were truly arguments) until Kol became fond of the idea thanks to his younger niece and his siblings’ (including Caroline’s) persuasion to give it a chance. Once they finally agreed, which was two years after their wedding, Davina presented them with the idea where Kol would become human by taking the cure, or adoption. This however, led to a new chain of arguments because no one could guide them on this. Option one involved Kol giving up what he took a long time to adapt to, but would live side by side with his human wife and grow old and die together. Option two involved him remaining as he was, but he soon came to understand that he would have to live without the love of his life when she eventually died as a human and that she wanted to carry a child, not adopt. So he did he best thing for all of those involved. Then nine months later, Emma Rose Mikaelson, cousin to Lizzie, was born into the world of earth.
Rebekah and Marcel had married 5 years ago in New York, detouring at Mystic Falls to show Marcel her home town, before parting on their honeymoon in the Maldives a week after their official union. The blonde Original, unlike Kol, had wanted the cure for decades, but when Kol requested it solemnly, Rebekah understood the reasons for which he did so and approved. Somehow, since Caroline had moved to New Orleans, the cold frost of Rebekah’s heart had been shattered to reveal light and kindness and warmth, one which Caroline radiated. Thanks to Klaus, Caroline became more confident. Thanks to Caroline, everyone became less selfish, less bitter, less…crazy. Years ago, when Klaus was infatuated with the young vamp who determinedly wouldn’t reciprocate his feelings, Rebekah never understood what he saw in her, what with his ‘full of light’ crap and at the time sickening romantic phrases to describe her. She even expressed that to Caroline, told her that she didn’t understand what her brother saw in her. But all these years later, Rebekah wholeheartedly understood and even agreed with Klaus. This special, unique woman had the power to shine a strong light among darkness, parting the dark miserable clouds with such a tender smile and speaking for her family, Rebekah and all of them strongly admired her brutal honesty and perspective. God knows they, as a family, needed it.
As for Katherine, she was a survivor. She overcame many fears and problems in her life, from past to present. However, she was not used to stability as a result. It was only when she came to New Orleans and settled there that she came to know what a constant was, what stability meant. Her friends were a constant. The Mikaelson family were a constant and came to love her(even Klaus learnt to tolerate her over time), thanks to Elijah, who was the main constant in her life. Everyday was a gradual step out of her protective shell for the doppelgänger and Elijah knew that. Which is why he didn’t want to propose. No one but him understood that marriage would scare her away and that settling down for life was the significance of marriage to Katherine, who couldn’t be more carefree of content than she was today. But everyone basically treated Katherine as if she were Elijah’s wife since they acted so domesticated and content around each other. They gladly chose to remain the newly renovated Mikaelson compound (which was Caroline’s doing) alongside Klaus, Caroline, Marcel and Rebekah, each with big master bedrooms, decorated to their own taste. Those two months took a lot of energy out of Caroline, but it was worth it. The end result was so worth it. God, I miss decorating, she thought as she sat contemplating on the balcony, expensive sunglasses covering her luscious blue eyes as she sunbathed freely.
Her sunbathing lasted a sole hour as Klaus crept up behind her with a giggling Lizzie, excited as she ran over to her mother. She rolled her eyes with a smile on her face, more than aware that it was Klaus, still unsure as to why he bothered to sneak up on her.
“I know it’s you, Klaus,” she said with a smirk, waiting for him to whoosh into her face. Which he did, causing Lizzie to laugh even more.
“Hello, my love, someone here missed you,” he remarks, a warm smile invading his smirk on his face as Lizzie rushed over to her mom.
“And by someone, I assume you mean Lizzie? Or you?” She teased. He leaned forward to peck his wife’s lips, causing Lizzie’s face to scrunch up in a childish way.
”Ewww, gross. You guys can do the kissy kissy thing when I’m not here, mom and dad,” the young witch exclaimed in shock, causing her parents to laugh.
“Come sit here on the sofa,” Caroline beckoned as she removed her Chanel sunglasses, Lizzie immediately obeying. Klaus sat down on the chair opposite them both.
”What exactly did you get up to, sweetie?” She smiled affectionately, eyes glistening with genuine love for her child, causing Klaus’s heart to stop as he captured this. His true love and his precious daughter.
“Nothing much,” she replied, in a chirpy mood, making Caroline raise an eyebrow in a joking suspicion.
”On really?” She raised both her brows and cast a fake suspicious glance at her husband, making him smirk.
”Yes, I can assure you that we did nothing too dangerous,” he teased as Lizzie jumped to tackle her mum, when actually meaning to hug her, causing Caroline to swoosh and tickle her hyper child, who laughed and begged for her mom to stop between laughing fits.
”Who fed you sugar, Lizzie?” Caroline questioned, with some seriousness in her tone.
“It was dad!” She squealed before Caroline started tickling her again, briefly this time. When the blonde vampire let go, she insisted that Lizzie go to aunt Rebekah and hang out with her, ensuring that her room was tidy, to which Lizzie nodded her head obediently before hurrying off.
”Lizzie, give me a hug!” Caroline chimed, making the younger girl run to give her mom a warm hug and her father a peck on the cheek.
”Love you mom! Love you dad!” She chided sweetly, to which both parents replied in unison, saying that they loved her too. After she left, Caroline began to speak.
”Klaus…” she starts sternly.
”Caroline,” he replies with mirth in his eyes and a smirk on his face.
”How much sugar did you give her? You know she’s only allowed a bit in the morning and one scoop of ice cream,” she poked at him trying to be serious but breaking into laughter as he pushes her down on the sofa and starts to tickle her.
”I felt that she deserved it,” he said, his voice low and turning husky, sending a shiver down her spine.
”Did you now? Without consulting me? This is supposed to be a joint thing you know,” she said, trying to maintain her sense of seriousness as he planted kisses over her face and neck, sucking on a particularly sensitive place, causing her to gasp.
”Believe me, I know,” he murmured under his breath as he hovered above her, pushing loose strands of golden curls behind her ears before leaning down to press their lips together, tongues intertwining and dancing with each other. As it progressed, she couldn’t help but let out a moan before stopping herself and pushing him off.
”Nope. Not out here where everyone can see.” She eagerly grabs his hand and they move into their bedroom while he spoke.
”I thought you liked an audience, sweetheart,” he grinned out of amusement, causing her to blush as her cheeks turned a bright pink. He laughed in a carefree manner as she gets a small pillow and whacks him lightly.
”Not funny!” She chimed before aiming at him again but failing to hit him as he snatched the pillow out of her hands and vamp sped to the door, locking it before returning to her, eyes daring. He purposefully dangles he pillow well above her height, which she attempts to reach twice and unconsciously nearing her husband as she did so, pausing when she realised that there bodies were touching each other.
In a mere second, Caroline found herself laid on their bed, legs spread open and heat surging through her core, becoming wetter by the second as she meets his hungry predatory gaze. Unlike every other time, Klaus absorbed and teased her rather slowly, occasionally stopping to laugh at her grunts of dismay and annoyance. He started by meeting her soft, plush rose lips, his tongue pushing entry into her willing mouth, gasping as the kiss deepened. Soon enough, he grazed his human teeth against Caroline’s smooth neck and she put both hands to his head, pulling on his golden curls which in turn caused him to growl hungrily. Sinking lower, Klaus cupped her breasts brought the bikini top and then planted kisses on her stomach and on the inside of her thighs, slowly creeping up towards where she wanted his mouth most.
”Klaus, please,” she hissed, impatient and desperate, not caring about having to beg for it anymore.
”Please what, Caroline?” He looked up at her with husky eyes, a hint of hybrid glow staining his eyes. When she didn’t reply instantly, he repeated the question with a stern low voice.
”Just let me come already,” she remarked bitterly as another wave of heat surged through her core. He smirked cunningly as he drew circles on the inside of her thighs. After pulling her bikini bottom down, he pressed his tongue directly against her clit, not teasing this time, causing her to moan in pleasure. As he repeated his ministrations, Caroline couldn’t help but arch up into his mouth, to which he gripped her hips and kept them still.
”Stay still, my love,” he whispered before Caroline tugged his head down to continue licking her clit. When he felt her start to tremble, Klaus inserted two fingers into her and rubbed them against her at a quick pace. She used one hand to cover her mouth to mute her moans and the other to rake down Klaus’s back with sharp nails, making him growl and it didn’t take long for her to come undone with a muffled shout as he pinched his fingers around her clit.
When she settled down after few minutes, Klaus turned to look at her, playing with a strand of her silky long blonde hair.
”How are you feeling sweetheart?” His voice was soft as he asked but still husky. She turned to look at him with a smirk on her face.
”Oh I’m feeling amazing. And now I’m going to return the favour,” she said, reaching out to touch his hard length, but his fast reflexes stopped her as he caught her hand.
”No, my love, today is about you.” Instantly, both of them ended up undressed and she found Klaus hovering over, his length demanding entrance. They met with a kiss as he pushed into her and started to move gently.
“More,” she gasped, demanding him to move and he was quick to obey. Klaus then used one hand to support himself as he thrust into her while using the other to switch between rubbing her clit and cupping her breasts, occasionally sucking on them before going up to kiss her. The increased volume of her moans spurred him on as he thrust into her harder, causing them to break at the same time.
“That was,” Caroline panted, trying to even out her breath.
”Fantastic,” Klaus added, smirking as he looked at her, met with a reciprocated smirk. He pulled out of her and laid down on his back, an arm around Carolin who rested her head against his chest.
”I love you Nik,” she mumbled before reaching up to peck his lips.
“I love you too, my sweet Caroline.”
They remained like that for a few hours, in the warmth and comfort of each other before it was eventually time for dinner as signalled by their daughter’s incessant knocking at their locked door.
”Mom!Dad! Aunt Bon says it’s time for dinner soon!!! Also I had a fun day with Aunt Bekah,” she announced, hoping they’d hear her.
”That’s amazing, sweetheart,” Klaus responds before getting up to shower as Caroline puts her robe on and opens the door slightly to see her gleeful daughter.
”Aww sweetie, that sounds so nice! Tell aunt Bon that we’ll be ready soon, ok?” Her daughter, oblivious to what occurred between her parents, smiled and ran off. After Caroline locked the door again, she went to join Klaus in the shower, both taking it in turns to shampoo each other in the luxurious bathroom, both feeling the warm spray of refreshing water against their skin.
”If Katherine hadn’t brought me here, do you think we would have found our way back to each other?” She questioned curiously.
”I do believe that we would have, yes, but it would have taken longer, what with your friends being against me and you feeling obligated to conceal your true feelings for me at the time. Either way, I do believe I promised to be your last love, and I am. I will never let you go, Caroline Mikaelson, I do hope you know that.”
”Oh believe me, I know,” she said, mimicking his words from earlier. His face lit up in recognition and he couldn’t resist kissing her. But not for long. The blonde quickly understood that dinner was happening now and they had disappeared for hours.
”We have to go! They’ve started dinner,” she rambled turning off the shower handle and rushing out to get them both towels.
“It’s fine, love,” he assured her as they dry themselves, and she knew it too, but still wanted to look decent.
“You don’t have to put make up on, Klaus and curl your hair.” He laughed as she practically jumped into her dress, chucking him a Henley and jeans. Caroline was a good multitasker. Once they’re dressed, she turned her back towards him, Klaus knowingly heading over to zip her dress up, kissing her neck as he did so. It only took them 10 minutes tops to dry their hair and get ready before heading downstairs to have their big family dinner.
Fastforward two hours later and all of them are eating dessert, laughing at a joke Kol has made, sharing memories. Whenever Caroline added a comment, Klaus couldn’t help but admire his wife as she did so, still in disbelief at how well she fitted in and at the fact that she was his wife, with him. She was his out of her choosing and he couldn’t be more grateful. They would spend eternity together, side by side with their beautiful child and expansive family and he was looking forward to every moment of it. Their future.
