Chapter Text
It has been two weeks since Ava’s first visit to B is 4 Bouldering. Beatrice was starting to worry—perhaps she had come on a bit strong with the harness and strap on jokes. However, Ava had purchased an annual membership on her way out... so where was she?
The girl in question had been lying in bed, recovering after her first time climbing. Her body felt sore in places she never even knew she had muscles. She always considered herself a strong, independent woman, but for the following days, she required assistance opening water bottles and door handles. Talk about being thoroughly spent after a first time. Heh. Beatrice would appreciate that joke.
Speaking of Beatrice, Ava had spent her two weeks in recovery looking for a sticker to give to Beatrice. She decided on a very cute bumblebee sticker captioned, “don’t worry, bee happy.”
Ava rolls out of bed to get dressed. She wants to look so good that Beatrice’s jaw drops the moment she sees her. Today’s the big day. She’s going to strap on a harness and woo the girl of her dreams. Literally. Beatrice has been in a few of Ava’s dreams these past two weeks. The content of these dreams, you ask? Ava will never tell.
Ava arrives to the gym dawning her usual workout gear: a tank top and leggings (with pockets, of course). Beatrice spots Ava immediately, and her jaw drops... not in the way Ava was intending, unfortunately.
Who comes into the gym wearing bright red lipstick and a tank top adorned with “Curls 4 Girls”? Only Ava, apparently.
Ava waves enthusiastically, skipping over to greet Beatrice. Ava’s tunnel vision leads her to crash her lips straight into— "Hey, watch where you’re going! Damn it, you’ve got your firetruck lips all over my new shirt.” Ava looks up. Before she can think, the words leave her lips, “Hey, you’re the cocaine girl!”
“Care to explain, Mary?” Camila raises an eyebrow in disapproval.
Lilith scoffs, “Should we be rename you Hail Mary now instead of Shotgun Mary?” Silence.
“You know, because cocaine is called hail on the streets?”
Mary retorts, “What do you know about life on the streets, Ms. Private Education? Also, what the fuck do you mean, cocaine girl? We met on a very wholesome hike.”
“Yeah, but you sprained your ankle and had white powder all over your hands. Wasn’t it because you were hiking while high?“
“I was hiking while high up... bouldering. The white powder was chalk.”
“Oh. That makes sense, I guess. Well, pay backsies for getting quote unquote chalk all over my shirt?”
“First of all, it was chalk. Not cocaine. Second of all, chalk is much easier to get out of clothing than lipstick. What are you doing wearing lipstick at a gym anyways?”
“Imagine the emotional duress I went through thinking I might get arrested for possession of cocaine. Also, don’t judge my lipstick, Mary. I want to look hot at the gym.”
Lilith interrupts, “Everyone looks hot at the gym, Ava. And sweaty.”
Camila giggles, “Is no one commenting on the Curls 4 Girls shirt?”
“Hey! I did not come here to get roasted for my fashion choices, thank you very much,” Ava huffs dejectedly. That is, until Beatrice takes her by the hand and says, “I think Ava looks great.” They walk off together, hand in hand. Mary smirks, “Of course you do, baby girl.”
“You think I look great?” Ava’s eyes seem to sparkle.
Beatrice chuckles, “Yes, you look very hot, and not in the sweaty gym sense,” Ava beams, “Now, are you ready to strap on a harness and grab some mounds?” Ava could only nod enthusiastically.
"When you’re climbing, you want to keep your hips as close to the wall as possible,” Ava’s heart races. She feels Beatrice’s hands on her hips and her lips brush against her ear. “This keeps more of your weight on your feet, and leads to less strain on your arms.”
“And if you want to rest during a climb, drop your hips and extend your arms so that most of the weight is directed to your feet. This should allow you to rest your arms.”
Ava isn’t quite sure how she managed to retain Beatrice’s tips whilst being in such an intimate position with her, but she did. The improvement in her climbing was apparent. Thanks to Beatrice’s private climbing lesson, Ava could now complete the V1s routes and managed to complete two V2s.
Ava showered, running her hands nervously through her hair. She would be giving Beatrice her gift soon: the bee sticker and a mint green Yeti water bottle, to match Ava’s bright orange bottle. She recites the line she will be using as she finishes drying herself off.
Ava gets dressed before heading to the front desk, where Beatrice is repairing a pair of climbing shoes. "Hey Bea, I’ve got something for ya. I figured after our first time, I should return the favour, y’know?” Ava wiggles her eyebrows.
Beatrice laughs, “I have something for you too,” handing Ava a "hoppy 2 b climbing" frog sticker.
“Is this our thing now?” Ava gestures between the two of them.
“If trading punny stickers is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.”
Beatrice flips over her sticker, smiling as she reads Ava’s note for her.
Hive been buzzing for a date with you.
