Chapter Text
“Okay, I cannot believe that you managed to spill all that paint on you,” Luz laughed, as Amity stood at the sink, scrubbing pain off her arms.
After her realisation the night before, she’d felt extra awkward around Luz, meaning that in art about fifteen minutes ago, when Luz had put a massive jar of paint on the top of a ladder, Amity had been so busy watching her friend paint a giant door she somehow had, she walked right into the ladder, knocking the jar off.
In all fairness, it was also slightly Luz’s fault for putting it right on the edge. But mostly Amity’s for being a useless lesbian.
Her head still hurt from where the jar had hit it, and her jumper was absolutely ruined.
So, now the two girls were standing in front of the sink, Amity’s jumper balled up and put to the side, all the bruises she had gotten from a week ago on show for the world to see.
Amity had always bruised easily, since her skin was so pale. She had never minded before, but now each bruise was a reminder of that night.
“Hey, you’re okay,” Luz said, noticing the distant look in her friend's eyes.
“Yeah, sorry, sorry, trauma, am I right,” Amity tried to joke, going back to violently trying to scrub the paint and bruises off her skin, which just made it worse.
“Heads up!” Luz yelled, chucking a box of blue paper towels at Amity, who barely caught them.
“What are these for?”
“To dry your arms and face off?”
“But the paint isn’t all off yet.”
“Just dry off, You can wear my hoodie, just remember to take a shower when you get in, should be easier to get off then,” she smiled, and Amity felt like she was going to pass out. “You alright? Your face has gone, like, really red.”
“Yeah, I’m okay, sorry,” Amity smiled, trying to will away the blush that was spreading across her cheeks.
“A’ight, want me to uh?” she gestured behind her, towards where her hoodie was in the safety under the table.
“Oh yeah, yeah you should probably,” Amity laughed, feeling like an absolute idiot. She didn’t often develop crushes, never getting close enough to someone to have feelings for them, but Luz was different.
The rest of the day dragged on, Amity found herself trying to scare her sister’s girlfriend by walking into their apartment and yelling for her.
“Jeez Ams, no need to deafen everyone,” Ed laughed from the small kitchen as he pulled a can of coke from the fridge.
“Please, with how loud you play your music I wouldn't be surprised if you were already hard of hearing,” Amity laughed.
“What?” Ed yelled, cupping his hand to his ear, “I can’t hear you!” Making Amity laugh even harder than she was before. “A’ight, what did you want Em’s girlfriend for anyways? You two have, like, barely spoken.”
“I need advice with a crush, and she seemed like the best person to ask?” Amity shrugged, feeling her face burn as her brother stifled his laughter.
“Why not ask Em then?”
“Ed, look me in the eye, and tell me that Viney was not the one asking Emira out.”
“You make a fair point there mittens.”
“Exactly, now, when are Em and Viney gonna be back? It’s important.”
“I dunno, probably like, five? I guess, they have shit to do after school.”
“Ugh.”
“Come on mittens, what’s going on?”
“I uh-” she started fiddling with the sleeves of the hoodie. Luz’s hoodie.
“Wait, what happened to your jumper?”
“Okay, so we were in art, and I knocked over her paint and” Amity started, before Ed cut her off.
“Kid, I’m gonna need names here,” he chuckled.
“Right, so, Luz and I were in art, and she was painting this door, which, I don’t even know how she got, and she spilled paint all over me, so gave me her hoodie to wear and, I’m freaking out Ed! I really like her and I don’t know what to do.”
Ed listened, nodding along, before grinning “wait, is this the same Luz who brought us to see you?”
“Yeah? I still don’t know how she found you guys anyways.”
“Detention friends,” Ed shrugged, “but yeah, that girl likes you mittens, trust me.”
“Are you sure? I really don’t wanna make a fool of myself.”
Ed laughed, “Mittens, seriously, I get that you're scared to be rejected, but this is Luz we’re on about, the worst that could happen is her saying no.”
“How do you know though?”
“Do you remember how Luz met Viney?”
“You said they met in detention, right?”
“Yeah, now, Viney’s told us stories about her, a lot of them, how she would always break the rules, end up in detention way more than anyone else, Luz got branded as a bad kid, straight away. Have you ever seen her with anyone other than you or Willow?” Amity shook her head, “exactly, the kid doesn’t exactly have many friends, so trust me when I say that she’s not gonna stop talking to you when she finds out you like her.”
“Okay, yeah, that makes sense, but I don’t want her to think I’m weird, or…” Amity sighed, “I don’t know, I just don’t want to make a fool of myself in front of her I guess. Like, it would make sense if she liked me back, I mean, I know for a fact she’s bi, since we talked about one of her ex girlfriends before, and-”
“You wanna go grab Mcdonalds?” Ed suddenly cut her off.
“What?”
“Mcdonald’s? You want some? I am starving.”
“I, uh, sure?” Amity cocked an eyebrow, sure Ed was known for cutting her off at weird times to voice his opinion, or just say what he was thinking, but it still always caught her off guard when he did so.
“Cool! Put on something nice, we’re heading off soon!”
Before Amity could ask why she had to wear something nice, since they were only going to McDonald’s, he was off, heading into his room. So, shrugging, Amity headed to hers and changed into some cleaner clothes, deciding to throw on a beanie, instead of tying her hair up like she usually did.
She still had some paint on her face from earlier, and scrubbed off most of it, before realising it had turned her face red. She scowled slightly at her reflection in the mirror, before remembering that she still had Luz’s hoodie, and so pulling it on she went back out to the livingroom to meet up with Ed.
When she got there, he was twirling the car key around his finger, grinning, “you clean up nice Mittens” he said to her.
“Yeah, you seem to be forgetting who got the good looking genes in this family,” she laughed.
The headed into the car together, driving to the McDonald’s closer to Luz’s than theirs, which wouldn’t have been weird, except for the fact that Luz lived on basically the other side of the city.
“Ed, why the hell are we all the way out here? There was a McDonald’s like, right by your flat?”
“Amity, have you ever heard of the McDonald’s monopoly?”
Amity groaned. Of course her brother would be into that.
“Hey! They have different stickers at each location! I wanna get something good Amity.”
“Yeah yeah, well, you’re buying my food!”
“You literally get money from mum every month!”
“So do you!”
“Oh… yeah.”
They walked into the restaurant laughing and smiling, Ed telling Amity to get a table while he ordered, since he was the one paying.
A moment after Amity had sat down, she heard the chair infront of her move, and, not looking up from what she was doing on the phone (messaging Luz dumb pictures of her brother) she grinned “that didn’t take long, I thought for sure you would take an h-” She cut herself off, looking up to see not Ed, but Luz, sitting right infront of her. “Ah, Luz, what, uh, what are you doing here?” She stammered, surprised to see her friend there.
“Ed messaged me to meet you here, said you had something important to tell me?” She smiled, slight worry written on her face, “you okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, perfectly fine, except for the fact that I’m going to kill my brother,” she laughed slightly, shooting daggers at her brother, who was talking animatedly to the girl working the cash register.
“Oh, did he not tell you I was coming? I mean, I thought it was a bit weird him messaging me and not you, so then I thought something was wrong, but he promised that you were fine and it was a good thing so.. Ah, sorry, I’m rambling.”
“No, no, it’s okay, I was just a little shocked was all,” she shook her head, “I mean, he probably just invited you so he can get more monopoly stickers” she laughed, busying herself with some ketchup packets on the table.
“Sure, I’ll go grab some food then” she grinned, heading off and leaving Amity to internally groan at her own awkwardness.
Ed came back a couple minutes later, holding their food, “what the hell is wrong with you?” Amity hissed as he sat down.
“What?”
“Bringing Luz out here and not warning me about it? What the hell man.”
“First of all, watch your language, second, I thought this would help, I mean, you want to tell her right?”
“I- okay, first of all” she mocked “fuck you, second of all, I mean, I guess, but not in a fucking McDonalds when all the fucking teenagers are here.”
“Okay, I can’t tell if you’re swearing so much because you're actually mad at me, or if it’s just because you’re stressed, but either way, you two can get out of here, take your food with you and have a picnic.”
Before Amity could once again curse her brother out, Luz appeared behind him “Yeah, a picnic sounds great” she smiled “think it’d be better than staying here anyways, I think one of the kids mentioned bringing out a speaker, and I do not want to stick around for that,” she laughed.
“I, yeah, sure, sounds fun” Amity stood up, pealing the Monopoly stickers off all her food, chucking them at her brother, and getting out from behind the table.
“Stay safe you two, and be back by ten, I don’t want y’all out too late, it’s a school night.”
“It’s Thursday! Friday’s are fine to skip,” Luz laughed, grabbing Amity’s hand.
They ran outside, heading back to the Owl house, hand in hand and laughing the whole way. However, instead of going inside of the house, they went around back, climbing up a very unsafe looking ladder to the roof.
“Hey, are you sure this is safe?” Amity had asked half way up, only getting a laugh in response as Luz hurried up, disappearing at the top.
The view from the roof was amazing, the sun in early June going down a lot later than expected, giving the two girls an amazing view of the sunset, but, while Amity was enthralled by the colours stretching across the sky, Luz’s attention was more focused on the green haired girl.
“Wow, I’ve, never seen anything like this,” Amity gasped, still standing on the top rung of the ladder.
Luz, who has just noticed what the other girl was standing on, reached over to grab her hand, “hey, get onto the roof, the view’s better and you don’t run the risk of falling” she laughed.
“I thought you said this was safe?” Amity smiled, grabbing her hand and stepping onto the roof proper.
“I said nothing of the sort,” Luz grinned.
“Hey, so I uh, wanted to ask you something.”
“Wait, before you do, I need to ask you something.”
The air between the two girls was thick, both of them extremely nervous.
“I really like you,” and “would you be my girlfriend?” were blurted out at the same time, followed by an almost mirrored hand slapping their own mouths, eyes wide.
Luz was the first one to regain her composure, gawking slightly as she said, “you like me?” A huge shit eating grin stretched across her face as Amity went beet red.
“I- well I..” she stammered, causing Luz to laugh, “it’s not funny!” Amity huffed, trying to hide her smile.
“No, no, it’s cute,” Luz grinned, once again offering her hand out to Amity, “I uh, I like you too.”
“I’d sure as hell hope so,” it was Amity’s turn to laugh, “you did just ask me to be your girlfriend.”
“Yeah, you still haven’t answered.”
“Cause you were being mean to me!” She fake pouted, before grinning, “but… yes?” she added on, quietly.
“What was that?” Luz said, going to lower her arm before Amity grabbed it.
“Yes, Luz Noceda, I would love to be your girlfriend.” Amity said.
Well, would have said if Luz hadn’t pulled her in for a kiss after she realised what Amity was saying.
