Chapter 1: Chapter 1 :)

Chapter Text

Perhaps he was overthinking it.

Maybe he was overthinking everything, amidst their individual careers and their own, separate lives. It’s just been so long, and it wasn’t like it would just like it was before, right?

20 years was a long time, right?

Maybe they didn’t even need to meet again in the first place, right?

And so he thought, until a certain loudmouth bulldozed his way into his lives, yet again.

———————

Sawamura Eijun was certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Many of the wiser had come to terms with the fact, allowing themselves to be pushed into his inescapable orbit. The others, however?

———————

“MIYUKI KAZUYA!”

Kazuya trudges through the crowds of annoying, inescapable people, keeping his head down and trying to avoid that minuscule part of his brain that screamed at him, to ‘hey, look back, maybe you’ll see a bit of who you used to be.’

He ignored that, piling all of his effort into wondering about whether he can afford to go another day without cooking and ordering food, or whether he should finally start eating healthily and cooking for himself. Will his boss be as much of a crappy asshole than ever? Will he be told to work after hours, yet again? Will the pure bliss he had when he was younger ever return? Oh, and while he’s at this train of thought, will he finally stop acting like his father and get his act-

A hand grabs onto his shoulder, and refuses to let go. Peering through his thick bangs (oh shit, he should probably cut those sometime soon, shouldn’t he, he lost that bullet point in his mile-long list of to-do items a while ago, and he’s definitely regretting it), he turns to either ridicule some poor unsuspecting idiot for mistaking him for whatever relative they thought they found or just politely ignore the fool. What he actually finds, however, is shocking at best and terrifying, seeing himself staring into a pair of familiar golden eyes, yet again.

“Sawamura?”

———————

Kuramochi sighs, his breath fogging up the glass in front of him. He checks his phone. 50 notifications from a certain loudmouth.

“That idiot never knew the concepts of personal space, and looks like that’ll never change.” He grumbles a couple of colorful curses under his breath, and then forces himself to click on his contact and call the source of all his grievances and annoyances. Wakana-chan wouldn’t ever forgive him if he ghosted her childhood friend again, which is unfortunate. And that’s the only reason that he’s calling Sawamura back. Just that.

Sawamura picks up on the first ring.

“Kuramochi-senpai! You saw my texts?” The loudmouth asks excitedly, in a tone of voice far too loud for practically anyone to handle.

Kuramochi sighs. “Too loud, Bakamura.”

“Sorry, Kuramochi-senpai! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? How’s Wakana?” Kuramochi can practically see Sawamura grinning.

“I thought we established that it’s too fucking loud for this early in the morning, idiot. Now what do you want?” Kuramochi spits out, holding onto the tiny bit of sanity that yells at him not to hang up the phone and go about his day, just as normal.

“I met Miyuki Kazuya at the train station! Also, I started a new romance anime about these two complete tsunderes and they’re both so cute! They go to this super huge and expensive school, and oh also the girl is a billionaire and that sort of stuff and everyone ships them and they pretend to hate each other sometimes but they actually really like each other and it’s just so cute!” Sawamura begins to ramble.

Kuramochi nods. “Uh-huh. Good for you.”

And then he realizes, the first part of Sawamura’s words finally beginning to sink in. “What the actual fuck.”

Sawamura - oh that little shit - says even brighter, “Kuramochi-senpai, do you want to try anime for once, like a properly cultured human being?”

“Sawamura. Tell me more about where and why you found that absolutely insufferable bastard. I know where you live, and Wakana-chan’s not going to stop me from putting your head and his in a headlock. One extra special, just for the dream team battery.” Kuramochi grits out, trying (and failing) to swallow the sudden waves of anger and shock going through his system at the present.

“Okay, okay, Kuramochi-senpai! I’ll tell you! I was just wandering through Shinjuku Station, as one does-“

“No one wanders around there. You were lost, weren’t you?”

“I’m in the middle of my sentence, Mochi-san! How rude! Anyways, I was looking around the station and I thought I saw him, so I yelled his name and chased him down. And I found him! He tried to ignore me for a while though, so I had to annoy him a couple of times before he saw me.”

“So you are aware that you’re annoying us all.”

Sawamura makes a disgruntled noise. “Not the point, Kuramochi! He looked like he was on the way to work, so I couldn’t really bother him that much, but he said he’d come to the anniversary!”

"..."

"Kuramochi-senpai?"

"Sawamura. Why the fuck couldn't you have started off with that?"

———————

“BWHAHAHA! THIS SAWAMURA EIJUN WILL DO HIS BEST TO IMPRESS THE ALL-KNOWING CHRIS-SENPAI!” Sawamura roars, bowing deeply to Chris, who looked a tiny bit confused and the other part completely and totally exasperated with his usual nonsense.

Kuramochi screams back, “SAWAMURA! SHUT UP. COME HERE FOR A SECOND, MORON!”

He promptly grabs Sawamura by the collar and drags him off to a distant corner. Wakana laughs, amused. “Youichi-san! Just don’t permanently maim him or anything! The rest is fine!”

Sawamura shouts, “YES! YOU GO, WAKANA. Wait, WHAT?”

The rest of the alumni - Chris and their generation, Kuramochi’s generation, Sawamura’s generation, and Okumura’s generation, as well as Takashima Rei and Kataoka Tesshin who both as promised joined them for the reunion and watch the idiots be idiots with an amused, fond look - laugh at their usual antics, and move on. A certain odd awkwardness and pause had been present since minute 1 of the meeting, and the whole team seemed withdrawn, but Sawamura was Sawamura. That wouldn’t change. The group of individuals would confer quietly amongst each other, and they would all unite to tease Sawamura. Either that, or be inspired. At this point, they weren’t too sure.

In his corner, Kuramochi glares at Sawamura. “I thought you said he would be here?”

“Don’t look at me like that, Kuramochi-senpai! He said he would be there, so I thought he’d definitely be here by now!” Sawamura nearly sobs, opening those wide puppy eyes whom all but Kuramochi and Haruichi had grown immune to over time. “Please don’t murder me!”

“And you didn’t think to get his contact information? And just let him avoid us all again? Not even after what happened?” Kuramochi growled. He was honestly this close to murdering the idiot.

“I’M SORRY!”

Notes:

I was trying to make a happy fic about everyone reuniting and Seido being happy... Close enough, but why must I make Miyuki suffer? Like I keep trying to come up with ideas and post, but everything starts with Miyuki suffering?
How do you come up with good ideas for plot and the like? Help?
Anyhow, I’m new to fandoms and fanfiction in general, but MOST OF THE TIME I have been astounded by how amazing this fandom in particular, as well as the other fandoms I have gotten the pleasure of getting to know! Positivity!
