Hope`s Gift

Chapter 4: Chapter 3

Summary:

What has been happening with the other Luck Student and his class?

Notes:

It's finally done. I'm sorry it took so long, but this chapter is more like the future chapters of Hope’s gift. So that means that for now on each chapter will comprise multiple POVs. The reason for this is we are experimenting with the writing as we go on. But other than that we will try to get chapters out faster, but I can’t make any promises. They will be out when they are out. But I can give you this good news, the next chapter we will get back to the game and what we have coming up is quite exciting and I can’t wait to write it.

Also, feel free to comment and theories, I reply to all comments so please do so. I live on feedback.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“The doors’ locked. How unlucky. I could have sworn that I left it unlocked when I left,” Nagito said to himself. Though it made sense, his luck had been unusually good today with the lower classmen showing up and actually believing he was an Ultimate with such useless talent as his and Enoshima being so kind as to give him some clothes! Also, Headmaster Kirigiri actually remembers him! He was truly lucky. Though he doubted that luck would extend to his classmates.

He would need to reintroduce himself to them. It was unfortunate, but that was the price of someone as useless as him being associated with people so great.
He may have to do that sooner than he would have liked if his luck did not turn good soon, Nagito thought as, repeatedly tried to open the door to his dorm. Nagito may need to ask Nidai to break down his door, as he had to do in the past when his luck did not cooperate. He would just keep trying, eventually, he would get lucky hopefully. If not, he could just sleep in one of the janitor’s closets. They were used to him sleeping in there, though they could have forgotten someone as hopeless as him being surrounded by hope all the time.

A familiar shout interrupted Nagito’s thoughts. “Hey bastard, what the hell do you think you’re doing trying to break into a dead guy’s door.” Nagito turned in the sound’s direction. Standing there was the Ultimate Yakuza Kuzuryu Fuyuhiko. He looked to be angry so Nagito cleared up the situation. Kuzuryu was far too great to be stressed by a misunderstanding. “Kuzuryu no need to be mad, this is no true Ultimate’s room, it’s just mine.” The anger on Kuzuryu’s face turned to surprise and then confusion.

“Komaeda? Is that you?” Nagito was astonished. He remembered him. It was amazing how great his luck was. That an Ultimate remembered someone as useless as him, filled him with so much Hope! “Komaeda, what’s with the mask?” Kuzuryu asked demandingly.
Nagito realized it looked kind of shady. The outfit the Ultimate Fashionista gave him was called sexy burglar, and he doubted someone as hopeless as he could ever look attractive at all. So it was perfectly reasonable for Kuzuryu to assume the worst. With this realization, Nagito took off the mask and answered Kuzuryu’s question.

“It’s called sexy burglar, and it was a gift from our lower classmen Enoshima. I apologize it looks so shady but I was so honored to be given something from an Ultimate that the thought of how it looked did not even cross my mind.”

A strange expression appeared on Kuzuryu’s face. The kindness shown to me by Enoshima must disgust him. It was reasonable. Kuzuryu knew how talentless he really was, so understood how far beneath all of them Nagito lay. But Kuzuryu said nothing. He was so kind not to, and the expression of loathing turned into a predatory smile.

“Good to have you back, Komaeda.” he looked at Nagito with a look of confusion. “Um, you need help with the door?” As he counted to rattle the nob, Nagito replied, “No it’s fine, it’s happened before and it will eventually op-.” There was then a loud creaking sound, which ended with an even louder crashing sound. As Nagito tried to turn nob once more, he found the nob was no longer in his hand. The hopeless boy turned his head and found that the door had completely fallen off its hinges. All Nagito could say to it was “How lucky.”

The game fell off the shelf and onto the sleeping Ultimate gamer’s head harder than you could expect of a game case with a disk inside. The impact awoke Nanami Chiaki from her slumber. “What was that?” Chiaki thought to herself as she looked for the culprit and quickly found the game lying next to her on the bed. She picked up the game and found that it was a game that she hadn’t played recently or more hadn’t played in nearly a year.

It was Moonlight Syndrome, Komaeda’s favorite game. She hadn’t played since before he left. As she sat there holding the old game, she could not help but worry about her classmate. It has been nearly 10 months now since he was suspended and no one had heard from him since. She knew he was safe. His luck would never let him get hurt, but he also had no social skills. He always seemed to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Chiaki knew that this could lead him into some awkward situations, but he always seemed to get himself out of it. Chiaki then heard her phone go off. “Wonder who that could be,” the gamer thought. She took the phone in her hand and checked to see who had texted her.

It was Kuzuryu. Chaki read the text. It read “Nanami as our Class Rep. I just thought that you should know that Komaeda’s back.” “He is being too formal,” the gamer thought, “What does he want?”. After briefly thinking it over, Chiaki found her answer. “He wants me to set something up so he can make Saionji pay him back.”

Saionji and Kuzuryu entered a bet a few months after Komaeda’s suspension over whether he was dead. Saionji said he was and Kuzuryu said he was not. Chiaki thought it was wrong for them to bet over something like that. But even over her objections their wager went on, and after Miss Yukizome returned and Komaeda did not, Saionji forced Kuzuryu to give in after beating him up. This made Pekoyama upset for some reason. Maybe Mioda’s conspiracy theories have some weight.

Wait ... Komaeda’s back! All the worries that had previously infested her mind came rushing back, but with the bonus of joy and relief. He was ok, but how ok? It took him a long time to get back, so there are two possibilities. He did not want to come back until now, which Chiaki thought was very unlikely, or his luck did not let him come back until now. The gomer did not understand Komaeda’s luck very well as it was, well, very complicated. He tried to explain it to her a few times, and she got the idea that there was a luck cycle, but she did not know how that luck cycle worked.

But putting all those worries aside, the Class rep of class 77B decided Komaeda’s return called for a celebration, your only return from a year-long suspension once after all. But then she remembered one crucial fact: it’s Komaeda. It wasn’t her friend’s fault that Komaeda was difficult to talk to, but it wasn’t his fault either. Komaeda was just so difficult but he also tried so hard to help everyone to the point of going too far. The image of the exploding gym flashed in her mind.
So how was she supposed to give Komaeda the welcome he deserved if no one came. She knew most of her friends would not want to spend their Sunday celebrating him. The gamer tried to think a of solution. She did not want to think of how it would affect Komaeda’s already nonexistent self-esteem if they held a party for him and no one showed up. The worst part would be Komaeda would play it off like he didn’t mind. Just the thought of it made Chiaki feel terrible.

The Gamer began trying to think of a solution. There had to be a way to get all her friends together to give Komaeda the perfect welcome back party. Chiaki then had an idea. Miss Yukizome must have a solution. She always did, that women always knew how to fix situations like this and she was the only other person who kind of understood Komaeda. Chiaki took the phone she was still holding and quickly texted her teacher of Komaeda’s return and about her wanting to celebrate it and her dilemma. “She should still be up, I think.” the gamer thought in her head.

The Gamer then realized that all of this was all too convent. She was woken up by a game falling on her head which just happened to be Komaeda’s favorite on the same night that he returned and around that same time Kuzuryu texted her about it. Then she gives him a party and after concluding that her friends would not come she then contacts the one person who could resolve that issue. “Well, Komaeda you’re just as lucky as ever,” Chiaki thought as she drifted back to sleep.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

She silently moved, using the dark as her cover, having barely avoided a group of guards on this occasion. Tonight she had attempted to see how the school’s dark secret was developing but could not get inside the main lab. Chisa knew it was dangerous, but she will take the risks to bring Kyosuke’s dream to fruition and to protect her students from their school’s misdeeds.

The main path came into view from their Agent of Hope’s Peaks hope could move without supposition since she had successfully built the reputation as a night owl since her return to the academy. Though how true that was could be up for debate, but the magic of coffee and detention could make anything possible. That was one of the many things Kyosuke had taught her during their time at the academy.

After making sure it was empty, Chisa started walking toward the path her attention was brought to her phone as the sound of a notification went off. Stopping in her tracks, she looked around again to make absolutely sure that she was alone. After finding that her initial observations were correct, she quickly and quietly finished her way to the path and then moved a few more meters down the path to make sure if someone her it would look less suspicious.

Chisa then checked her phone. Nanami had texted her. That was unusual on its own as Chisa normally let her class go free on the weekends to make up for her rather strict policies during the School week. Most of the time, her class was fine to do the same. It was also because she would do it so late. It was barely 4 in the morning and she suspected it was not unusual for the Ultimate gamer to stay up so late playing her games, but it was unusual that she would contact her this late. Anxiety came over her as she thought of why her student had contracted her.

Pushing all the negative thoughts aside, she clicked on the notification and skimmed through it. The expectations of problems were quickly replaced with joy. Her class was whole again. Their Lucky Student had returned, Komaeda was back, safe. But then there was the rest. Nanami seemed to be just as happy at her classmate’s return and felt that he deserved a welcome back party. It filled her with pride that Nanami was taking such initiative; it was moments like this that proved that she had made the right destination when making her Class Rep.
But then there was the main reason the Ultimate gamer had contacted her. She wanted to give Komaeda a party, but she did not know how to get the entire class to attend.

Chisa knew Komaeda was… a troubled student and was not the easiest to talk to, but he cared about all his classmates more than they knew even though she tried to tell them before her time in the Reserve course. She knew most of them had not licensed and many in the class do blame Komaeda. She could not fault them, but still she hoped they could move past it and her Students could become even more united.

But in order to do that she would need to first make sure Komaeda knew he was still a part of the group and the best way to do that was a party. That brought her back to the problem Nanami had asked her to fix. How to get the entire class to attend said party. Most would not come by if given a choice, but she could not just drag them there, as that would just make them resent them even more.

So she needed to get them there willingly. A thought then came to Chisa’s mind. That thought quickly became an idea and then a plan. She started moving again, but this time in another direction. She did not have that much time before the news got out, and she could not allow that. As she jogged toward the male dorms, she texted Nanami, telling her not to tell anyone about Komaeda’s return.

As she arrived, she moved quietly toward the building. She had to silence the students, a pair of Students to silence.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“Hraaaaaarrhh, it’s too early.” the gamer said as she made her way from the Girl's dorms.
Chiaki was on a mission, to ensure that Komaeda got the welcome back that he deserved. She didn’t think it was possible to get all her classmates to come together for Komaeda, but Ms. Yukizome had found a way. It was underhanded, but if it got Komaeda, the party he deserved as her friend and classmate, then she would go along.

All they needed to do was to plan and set the party up in complete secrecy and keep Komaeda’s return a secret. When Chiaki asked Ms. Yukizome about Kuzuryu and Komaeda she responded “Don’t worry Nanami, Komaeda knows to stay in his room till you come and get him and Kuzuryu, has been dealt with.”. Chiaki sometimes forgot how scary her teacher could be when she wanted to be, but she hoped Kuzuryu did not put up too much resistance.

Putting those thoughts aside as Chiaki prepared for the first part of her mission. A party needed food and only one person could make food good enough for her class anymore. Their resident Ultimate Cook (though he preferred Ultimate Chief) Hanamura Teruteru. He was the earliest riser of her class by far, being up and in his kitchen every morning by 3am!

So the Ultimate Gamer prepared to knock on the back door to Hanamura’s Kitchen as the front entrance would already be flooded by the early risers. This was not the first time she had done something like this, but this was the first time she needed to keep it a secret what the food was for. Hanamura had his way with words. So she would need to be on guard not to let anything slip.

Chiaki knocked and prepared to wait by continuing her 6th play-through of Mother 3 this year. Hanamura was busy at this time of day, so it would take a bit for him to have time to come to the door. After a bit, she heard the door open and after finishing the dialogue she was reading, looked up from her Game Girl Advanced to the door. “Nanami, good morning, what has brought you to my luxurious Kitchen so early this fine morning?” Hanamura asked with his normal smooth tone as she walked out of the Kitchen.

As smooth as always, the gamer thought and then responded pleasantly, “My morning’s been… early, but good. What about you Hanamura, has everything been well with the morning rush?”. The Ultimate Cook responded “Oh it has been as wonderful as ever, my admires are as ravines as ever for my cuisine. But I must ask you to answer my other question. I don’t believe that you would show up this early unless we had something to discuss. So what is it you want to discuss?”

Chiaki silently planned out what she was going to say. She had to say it in such a way that he wouldn’t be able to get more than she wanted to tell him out of her. After taking a silent breath, Chiaki gave her answer. “Yeah, I had something to talk to you about. Could you make a big meal today for lunch and a special dessert?” At the sound of a request for his food, Hanamura’s face lit up like it always did when someone asked for his food. But his happiness did not seem to blunt his curiosity like she’d hoped.

“So Nanami, what is the occasion that would require such?” he questioned with his normally smooth tone. Ok here goes nothing, “Um can’t say, it’s a surprise for everyone so it wouldn’t be fair for me to tell you, I think.” She said in an apologetic tone. She did not like keeping things from her friends, but if it got Komaeda, the reception he deserved, she would just have to fight through it. Besides, hearing Komaeda talk about how he is trash, and that it was fine if no one showed up would be far worse.

Hanamura did not seem satisfied with the answer, however. “Come now you can trust me, I won’t tell another soul, chief’s honor.” Normally that would work but she knew Hanamura will use loopholes, and she also knew that he goes by cooks honor not chiefs honor which is very different things surprisingly. So Chiaki would not fall for that again. “No, sorry it would not be fair to tell you and anybody else so… no, I think”
His face momentarily fell at her response, but was quickly replaced with his normally relaxed smile. “I guess I can wait for the surprise with the rest, and trust me no one will hear that you’re planning something from me, cook’s honor.” Hanamura relented.

The gamer felt some weight come off her shoulders. She trusted him not to say anything, when all he knew was she was planning something. Though she doubted that he would have the same toon if he knew the truth. But she can’t think like that. All her friends would get along and be friends, she just knew they would.

Chiaki thanked Hanamura “Thank you for doing this Hanamura and trust me it’s a great surprise.” The Ultimate chief responded, “Of course what kind of big city Chief would I be if I did not accept all requests for my luscious food from a splendid classmate. Even though I would love to keep chatting, I have much work to do and many taste buds to seduce.” The Ultimate cook then went back into the kitchen with surprising speed for his size.

“That went as well as she could have expected.” Chiaki thought. The gamer then prepare for the various other tasks that needed to be done as she thought over the various things on her mental to do list. She started up her Game Girl on impulse and then continued playing Mother 3. Gaming always improved her focus. Ok she needed to get some drinks, she could have asked Hanamura but his drinks are not that good compared to his food so that time could be much better used to make more of his delicious food.

So she would just have pop as their refreshments, but that would mean she would have to buy enough pop for her entire class. That would be a lot of cans for just one girl who wasn’t all that physically active to move on their own. “If only Komaeda were here he would have made getting pop so much easier. Wait, he is here? but I can’t ask him to help.” That would both ruin the surprise for him and make it a lot harder to keep the secret that he had returned.” After a few more seconds of thinking it over, Chiaki came to the easiest concussion. She would have him get the pop during the Party. That way the entire class could help with moving all the cans.”

At that thought a sadness came over the gamer. It was sad that she had to keep that Komaeda had returned a secret in order to get their friends to attend his welcome back party. But it was not their fault Komaeda just made people… uncomfortable. She could not blame him, either. He did not know how he came off to others. It was just a hard situation, and she did not know how to solve it. Komaeda was like one of those characters in an RPG that would have a video decoding them online. He was so hard to understand. She had spent more time with him than anyone else, but even she could not understand him.

But maybe it could be different this time, Chiaki thought. It was a new year, and they were upperclassmen now. There was a whole other class and so many other people for Komaeda to make friends with. Maybe one of them could solve the mystery that was Komaeda. The gamer could only hope.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Most of the 77th class were sitting in their classroom at their desks with only two desks empty. One that had been empty for nearly a year now and to everyone but himself and Nanami was still suspended or dead, as Saionji said. The second empty desk belonged to Nanami, which was off since she was the one that had called them in on a Sunday.

Fuyuhiko would have normally been curing up a store, especially as he had been up till 4 in the Fucken morning looking for that bastard Hagakure. To put it bluntly, if he wasn’t in on the secret, Nanami would have a lot of explaining to do. Of course, the reasons he hadn’t spilled were pretty good, in his opinion. It would be too damn good to see the look of that brat Saionji’s face when she realizes he was right, Komaeda was alive, standing in front of her and she was going to have to pay him back both that 100,000 Yen she had bet also the 100,000 Yen he had bet and already paid her after she jumped him.
That was the main reason Fuyuhiko would not tell, much more important than his chat with Miss. Yukizome earlier that morning. Yeah, the look on Saionji’s face is much more important.

The class was arranged as normal but it was much more silent than usual as they tried to figure out why Nanami had called us here and probably why the gamer was awake right now. She rarely got up earlier than noon on Sundays, since it was barely 10 am it was unusual for her to be up. At least that’s what he would have been thinking. Sonia Nevermind finally broke the silence.
“Does anyone know why Nanami asked us here?” Sonia questioned, looking a bit confused.

After a few moments of silence, Fuyuhiko laughed, showing more snark than he felt in the situation. “I think I got some idea of the way we’re here but I ain’t saying.”.
Owari then spat out, “Aw come on.”. Then began a barrage of questions by pretty much everyone present, with the only one not asking being Pekoyama, who was being silent as usual. After a few minutes of this, Fuyuhiko responded, deciding that it was about time to give them a bit more. He could not let them lose interest. “I said I’m not spilling, it’s too damn good to spoil the surprise.”.

Most of them got the hint backed off, but a few of the more stubborn bastards didn’t get the hint. Those that didn’t get the hint were Mioda, Soda, Owari, and the brat herself Saionji. He kept silent with his finely tuned Yakuza mask in place to shield himself from the barrage of half-baked theories. That was, until Mioda actually got it. “Mmm Komaeda came back from the dead and Nanami called us so we would be here for the party that she is having for him, since she knows we would never show up if we knew.”
He kept his straight face, of course, but it surprised him that someone got it. But he kept a straight face. At least he thought he did. The look of surprise on Pekoyama’s face showed it was not as perfect as he would have liked. Of course, she would see right through him. She could always read him like an open book. Luckily no one else seemed to notice, and the idea was quickly shot down by the person who had the most to lose if it were true, Saionji.

“Oh please, Komaeda’s as dead as Kuzuryu would have been if he hadn’t had given me the money,” said while giving him a glare of total victory. Fuyuhiko met it with a sneer that he hoped appeared real, as he desperately wanted to smile at his coming victory.
At that moment Yukizome walked in with her normally cheerful smile on her face. “Good morning class, I don’t mean to intrude. I’m just here to check on a few things.” Everyone became silent after that. Yukizome never interfered with them on the weekends, so it was a red flag that she was here. Though it was not enough of one to give it away, at least Fuyuhiko hoped it wasn’t.

Then a voice rang from the hall, a voice that no one but him had heard in almost a year. “There is really no need to do this. They have probably forgotten me so it would be awkward to be introduced like this. I’ll just show up to class tomorrow.” the voice of Nanami replied, “They haven’t forgotten you, Komaeda, they’re your friends.” The Bastard replied, “But still I’m such a forgettable friend, like a pop can you threw away 6 months ago.” Nanami replied with an annoyed voice “Komaeda you’re a person, not trash, now go in there.” The Lucky bastard himself came stumbling through the doorway.

As soon as Komaeda came into view, a blood curtailing scream rang out from behind Fuyuhiko. He looked in the scream’s direction thinking something was wrong but saw Soda screening his lungs and looking at Komaeda with a terror only reserved for Komaeda. Fuyuhiko felt anger flare up inside him. Just because Soda didn’t like Komaeda didn’t mean he could scream like that a moment after seeing him for the first time in months. Also, it was fucken annoying. Fuyuhiko was just about to tell the bastard to shut up when a very regal voice beat him to it. “Soda, shut up,” the Ultimate Princess said. That seemed to be enough as Soda calmed down.

Fuyuhiko along with everyone else then turned his eyes back to Komaeda as he said the most insulting thing that ever came out of his mouth. “Hello, I’m Komaeda Nagito, Ultimate Lucky student. I was your classmate last year, some of you might have vivid memories of me.”. The entire class was dead silent. It was like someone died more accurately than someone came back to life. But the best part was the look on Saionji’s face. The shock and fear. It was glorious, but he would not let it stop there.

Ignoring the insult that Komaeda the Ultimate Yakuza then let out a triumphant laugh. This is to fucken good, he thought to himself. He then turned to look at Komaeda and said “Welcome back Komaeda!!” with a victorious smile on his face. Komaeda then made yet again a very stupid comment “But Kuzuryu we saw each other last night.”. Fuyuhiko rolled his eyes. Komaeda could almost be too much sometimes.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Gamer watched the reunion between her friends silently from the front of the room. The reactions to Komaeda’s miraculous return were mixed. Kuzuryu had a very good reaction. (Though it was exaggerated in order to antagonize Saionji.) It was still the most genuine and Chiaki felt it was good if exaggerated.

Koizumi had one of the most negative reactions, Greeting Komaeda with silence and supposition. Another one of the more positive reactions was Mioda. Who’s reaction could be best described as a mixture of surprise and excitement and greeted the lucky boy in her normal jovial manner, “Komaeda, welcome back from the dead! Was the afterlife exciting!?”

.
Tsumiki’s reaction was her normal one when anything unexpected happened, a look so nervous that it would be mistaken as fear by those less familiar with her the nurse, she murmured something that Chiaki could not make out and the girl did not say it louder again as the lowered members of the class began to speak.

Nidai’s face, which had been smiling, turned serious. What she called coach mode. She only ever saw him put it on when telling Owari that their spares were over. “Komaeda, welcome back” he said in his coach voice.. Speaking of Owari, she silently glared at Komaeda with anger on her face that made Chiaki anxious. She hoped Owari didn’t act rashly. Hanamura had one of the best reactions. He looked both astonished and happy at their classmate’s return. Greeting him in his normal smooth tone “Oh Komaeda, what a pleasant surprise.”

Pekoyama had one of the most worrying reactions. The Sword Woman normally gave off an air of hostility, but she really didn’t mean anyone harm. The way she was looking at Komaeda felt like she really meant harm. That, combined with Owari’s angry reaction, made Chiaki very nervous. What would happen if Owari attacked Komaeda? Normally Nidai would stop her from doing something like that.

But he didn’t seem all that thrilled about Komaeda’s return either and with Pekoyama also not liking it, things could get ugly. “Stop thinking like that Chiaki.” She chastised herself, “Komaeda is their friend and just because they’re angry doesn’t mean they’re going to attack him. They could be mad for a lot of good reasons, like blowing up the gym, getting Miss Yukizome sent to the reserve course and going missing for almost a year with no contact,” Chiaki told herself.

Sonia seemed happy enough at Komaeda’s return, but she got sidetracked. “Komaeda, is it true what Mioda says, you came back from the dead?”.Tanaka seemed to be so thrilled at their classmates return he laughed “Fuhahahaha”. Chiaki didn’t know what that meant, but she thought it must be good. Mitarai looked at him with a mixture of supposition and fear.

The two of her classmates that had the worst reaction were Soda (who had a look of terror on his face as he seemed to hide behind his desk.) and Saionji, who was glaring at Komaeda while trying to desperately avoid Kuzuryu, who had the most argent smile the gamer had ever seen on his face.

“It was not a perfect reception but it could have been worse, I think,” the gamer thought to herself. But then Komaeda once again proved himself as the friend with the highest difficulty. Komaeda (instead of responding to their friends’ greetings with happiness or any normal emotion) hugged himself and shivered like he was in a blizzard. If that was where it stopped, it would have been bad enough, but then he started to talk. “Such Hope! I underestimate the Ultimates! They remember someone as worthless as me!” The Luck boy ranted.

Chiaki resisted the urge to face palm. She did not know how Komaeda could mess up this surprisingly heartwarming reunion, but he was in the middle of doing it. The amount of frustration that the gamer felt in that moment was overwhelming. She had gotten up before noon on a Sunday in order to give Komaeda the best welcome back party ever and she was not about to let him mess it up for himself. So the gamer did the only thing she could think of to get the boy to stop acting weird, to tell him. “Komaeda, stop being weird.” the gamer said in her sternest voice.

Komaeda did as she said and stopped doing his weird shaking thing. The room went silent after that, but the voice of their teacher quickly interrupted it. “Good to have you back Komaeda, I will see all you bright and early here tomorrow, but don’t let that stop you from having a great time.” she said in a cheerful but forceful tone and then she quickly left the room with many documents in hand.

An awkward silence followed the teacher’s departure, which was thankfully broken by the word of Hanamura. “So Komaeda, where have you been all these mouths?”. It was a question that Chiaki had wanted the answer to herself. Everyone else seemed to be just as curious as to where their classmate had been.

After a few more seconds of silence, Komaeda answered. “How can I deny the request of an Ultimate? I was in the middle of the Sahara desert in north Africa after my plane crashed on route to Europe. Oh, but don’t worry, the plane crashed right next to an Oasis.” He said as he rubbed the back of his head. That was until last night when two of our lowerclassmen, Enoshima Junko and Ikusaba Mukuro, saw my Giant Thumb on their plane and were kind enough to provide me with transpiration back to the Academy.
The gamer had not expected such a terrible answer. “He was out in the desert alone for months, with no one to talk to. It must have been horrible But that just meant that she needed to make Komaeda time back with that much better!” Chiaki thought.

“So you’re saying that you spent the last year in the middle of the desert?” Koizumi asked to which the Ultimate Lucky Student responded “Yeah that’s what I get for wanting to overcome my fear if flying, I should’ve just stayed on my Island.”

The Gamer realized Komaeda was getting ready to walk into the pit of self-depreciation so she said the first thing that came to mind diverting his attention “So Komaeda, how did you get the bombs to blow up the gym?”. As soon as it came out of her mouth, she realized her mistake. But the genuine smile that appeared on his face almost made it worth it.

He then explained that from the age of seven he would make bombs in his garage and detonate them in his backyard and from there he made progressively bigger explosives. It was nice that did not directly answer her question but gave a more general answer. Several of their classmates took an actual interest in Komaeda’s “hobby”. Surprisingly, Soda was among them, seeming to get past his dislike of Komaeda for the time being. It was nice to see all her friends getting along.

But there are always bumps in the road, especially when Komaeda was involved. “Actually, I made a bomb just last night for the security system in my room,” he said, like it was an achievement. Komaeda continued “There the strongest I’ve ever made I used land mines I found while in the desert combined with the military equipment Enoshima let me have because she wanted to see whether I could make bombs.
This surprisingly gained the admiration of Mioda, Kuzuryu, Sonia, Saionji who had a sudden interest in powerful room security, and Soda, who was trying to hide his interest. No one should misunderstand her.

Hearing that Komaeda knows how to make military-grade explosives is probably the coolest thing she learned today. Chiaki has to constantly remind herself she’s the class Rep and her class’s safety is her responsibility and the last time Komaeda used his bombs on campus he destroyed the gym, got 3 of their upperclassmen expelled, got himself suspended, and got Ms. Yukizome exiled to the reserve course. So Chiaki needed to be the responsible one and find a safe place for Komaeda to use his awesome explosives.
The conversation drifted away from her Friend's newly revealed passion to more conventional topics. It was great to see all her friends getting along and having a good time. Around noon Hanamura left to collect the feast that she asked him to make early and around that time Komaeda asked a question that she should have been expecting. “I’ve already met Enoshima and Ikusaba. Enoshima was pleasant to be around and Ikusaba '' he stopped like there was something he wanted to say but didn’t, which was rather surprising for him as he would normally just say it without thinking. He continued, “So how are the rest of our lower classmen?”.

Her classmates had a lot to say. Mioda said, “Maizono was a stickler who follows trends rather than having a passion for the art, but I still have hope to make her a friend.”. Nidai answered in his normal powerful tone, “I trained in the mountains with Ogami so I know she is an outstanding athlete and wise beyond her years. I’m convinced that she could beat anybody in a straight-up fight.”. Kuzuryu said while staring at Saionji “Hagakure runs away from his dept’. Sonia added, “Yes, Hagakure is a bit of a con artist; he sold me a faulty crystal ball yesterday.” Tanaka continued, “Yes, he is a pitiful seer, he could foresee something as mighty as one of my Dark devas of destruction coming for his ill-gotten gains.”

Being one of the few who could understand Tanka with little effort the Gamer quickly realized what her friend meant and was thinking of a way to respond to it when she heard a knock on the door. “Who could that be?” she wondered to herself as she moved to check. As she walks on the door, Chiaki hears an argument break out over Tanka’s actions. As their Class Rep, it annoyed her, but as their friends, she could help but smile. That’s just how her class got along and she would not have it any other way.

Makoto felt pretty nervous to be meeting his upperclassmen. Well, he had met them in Danganronpa, but that was a lot different from meeting them in person. What if they’re completely different?

What if his theory was wrong, he was no Ultimate detective like Kirigiri? He was just a normal guy who got Lucky once and then it seemed like never again. If he was wrong or if Danganronpa was not as accurate as he thought. What would he tell Hagakure then?
Makoto stopped himself. He just needed to calm down and have hope that everything would be fine. All he needed was Hagakure’s wallet back. It would be simple. All he needed to do was ask nicely, and he was sure that Tanaka would give it back. With his uncertainty out of mind, he approached the classroom of class 77B. He was lucky he ran into Hanamura or he would have not understood where to find Tanaka.

When the normal boy got to the door, he could hear talking from the other side. It reminded him of his class and he did not want to interrupt, but Hagakure was depending on him. So he knocked on the door. He heard footsteps approaching the door. The door opened, and he saw the Ultimate Gamer and the class 77B class rep Nanami standing on the other side.

Makoto felt some of his nerves coming back, but quickly shoved those back down and greeted his classmates. “Hi Nanami,” he greeted. The gamer was silent for a moment but then responded “Hi Naegi.”. Makoto remembered after a few seconds Nanami thinks everything out before she speaks so he’s going to have to do most of the talking. Makoto’s doubts came back to the surface but pushed past it and said his theory. “I think Tanaka took one of my friends’ wallets.”.

Nanami was silent for a few seconds before he heard the familiar voice of Kuzuryu shouting, “Give me that damn wallet.”. The Yakuza’s words startled Makoto. “That’s not good”, he thought but didn't let it steal his resolve. The gamer was silent for a few seconds before turning and saying, “Come on,” as she walked back into the room. Makoto silently accepted the quiet girl’s invitation and followed.

As he entered the room it seemed Kuzuryu was having a confrontation with Ultimate Princess. “You can have the money he scammed out of you, but the rest is mine. He’s run from his debts long enough and combined with me winning my bet earlier I think today might be my lucky day so I’m going to take advantage of it.”

Tanaka then spoke in the same confusing way he spoke in the game “My familiar took the feeble seer’s wallet so by the rules of thieves it belongs to me and I gave it to her and thus it is hers.” As he said this, he exited his seat and stepped between the two. Kuzuryu looked slightly annoyed as he ranted about how annoying Hagakure was to capture and how any chance to get his money was needed.

As he watched the scene unfold silently from the contention his friend’s wallet had caused amongst the upperclassmen, Makoto stole himself for the upcoming conversation. The unlucky boy was dragged from his thoughts when he heard a voice speak up from his side. “Guys, we have a guest,” Nanami said to her class.

The whole of the class’s eyes settled on him. Makoto swallowed hard and prepared himself. It was weird All he needed to do was talk this out. Once they understand each other, they will find out a way to make everyone happy. With confidence that he didn’t know he had, Makoto took a few more steps forward toward the Ultimate Princess. “Sonia, can I please have Hagakure’s wallet back? I know he scammed you and that’s wrong, but he doesn’t deserve to lose all his money because of it. Hagakure won’t scam again, I’m sure of it.” at least I hope he will, he thought.

“Like hell that bastard will ever quit, it’s his talent. Besides that money doesn’t belong to her, it belongs to me. Sonia can have the money that the bastard scammed out of her but the rest belongs to me.” the heir to the Kuzuryu clan said loudly. The whole of Kuzuryu’s comment made Makoto angry, but he did not let that cloud his judgment. There had to be a compromise. “That’ s not fair Kuzuryu, you can’t take all the money in his wallet.” Kuzuryu did not let him finish, “Why the hell can’t I? That bastard has owed me money for 2 years now and has run from it the whole time. He’s had every chance to pay up, but never has, so -..” Nanami interrupted the Yakuza “Kuzuryu, could you please just give the wallet back, what Hagakure did was wrong but I’m sure with the power of the Kuzuryu clan you can get him to pay you back later.”

Kuzuryu looked surprised by Nanami’s interjection, but Makoto was grateful for it. Now Kuzuryu would listen to reason and give the wallet back and everyone would be happy. The Yakuza’s response shattered the unlucky boy’s hopes for a simple solution. “Can’t do that Nanami, it’s Clan Business and I wouldn’t be the Ultimate Yakuza if I let a Bastard like Hagakure pass up on a payment.”

Makoto was not sure why he thought asking the Ultimate Yakuza to give the money back to someone that owed him wasn’t going to work. Maybe Kirigiri was right, and he was Naive, but that did not change that he promised Hagakure that he would get his wallet back. He just had to keep trying until it worked out.

Makoto was just about to retaliate against Kuzuryu when a new voice rang out. “How much money is the wallet minus what is owed to you, Sonia?” Komaeda asked. He was surprised Komaeda spoke. He had been silent since he had entered the room. Sonia seemed to be surprised by Komaeda’s words but answered with the amount. Komaeda then pulled out his wallet and took out the same amount and handed it to Kuzuryu. “It’s not fair for an Ultimates day to be ruined because of his debts but it’s also not right for an Ultimate not to make a profit because one will not pay his debts, so I will pay it for him.”
Komaeda’s words surprised him and felt hope fill his chest once more. Komaeda was a nice guy. Kuzuryu did not seem to appreciate Komaeda’s kindness though “It’s also not fair for you to pay for him, especially since he won’t pay you back.” Komaeda responded “Then he will pay me back with his talent. If I’m correct, Hagakure is the Ultimate Clairvoyant. He was on my list of guesses for the 78th class. Last time I checked he had a successful prediction rate of 29%.” Komaeda said in return.

Makoto could not help himself from saying “It’s 30% actually.” Komaeda turned to him for the first time and said in a strangely cheerful tone “It is great to hear a hope has improved.” “You sure Komaeda, the bastard’s predictions are all fake.” the elder Lucky Student responded, “Trust me with my luck they will all be perfect, besides seeing a hope use their talent will be more than enough payment.”

There was a silence as the Yakuza looked to be thinking Komaeda’s proposal over. Makoto could only hope that the Yakuza would agree. After what felt like an eternity Kuzuryu looked to Komaeda and said “If you’re sure then I agree.” Komaeda smiles and hands the yen over. Sonia then hands the wallet over to Makoto.

He smiled and thanked them all for their help and call left them to enjoy themselves. Just as he got to the door, Hanamura showed up with a large tray of food. Makoto opened the door for him, which the Ultimate Chief thanked him for, and then he left the room. It was a little more difficult than he had expected, but everything turned out well in the end.

As he made his way to the front where his friends would wait for him, he could not help but think that he wanted to know his upperclassmen more. They were nice. Even Kuzuryu seemed to have a good side to him. Lucky for him, he had a way to get to know them better. They sent him Danganronpa, so maybe they already wanted to get to know him. It is kind of weird way to do it but it is not the weirdest for Hope’s Peak. He would need to ask about it sometime. He would also need to set a time to play since Togami wants to join him next time.

Before he could continue, that line of thought had arrived and saw everyone waiting. He smiled at seeing his friends once more and began his walk over to Hagakure. They ended up have a great time

Notes:

It's finally done. I'm sorry it took so long, but this chapter is more like the future chapters of Hope’s gift. So that means that for now each chapter will comprise multiple POVs. The reason for this is we are experimenting with the writing as we go on. But other than that we will try to get chapters out faster, but I can’t make any promises. They will be out when they are out. But I can give you this good news, next chapter we will get back to the game and what we have coming up is quite exciting and I can’t wait to write it.

Also, feel free to comment and theories, I reply to all comments so please do so. I live on feedback.

Edit - So sorry for the formatting, archive messed it up. Fixed now!

Notes:

ASB is literally just a term random reality warpers, so it will not play into the story at all.

Other than that there will actually be a plot with Makoto, Kyoko, Nagito, and many more working to try to stop Junko but that won't be an easy task.

Sorry that this is a bit short but Chapter one is much larger and will be posted shortly!

Have a great day.
