Chapter Text
It was a lovely evening, The Bridgertons gathered for their once-a-month family dinner. A dinner where the whole brood must attend. That night was the night they are meeting Benedict’s girlfriend, Sophie for the first time.
To Colin, that night seemed like another family dinner, all of them (excluding Gregory, because he is in his first year of uni) with Kate, and Sophie are all seated around the table.
Violet was asking about his love life, as per usual.
Kate was talking about Newton, her and Anthony’s love child dog.
All seemed very normal, until his sister Daphne, just casually dropped a bomb in front of his face.
“You know Colin, the empty apartment next to yours already has some bidders, one of them is even a famous novelist” Daphne put on an innocent smile.
“Oh really? Okay I guess, who is it sister? You do know that I do not read many novels.” Colin asked, still fully paying attention to his dinner.
“Penelope Featherington.” Daphne smirked.
Colin choked on his food.
Everyone gasped.
“You’re serious?” Benedict looked surprise.
“Yes! She is very sweet, and she really loves the place.” Daphne looked to Benedict, then to Colin “She even said to me that the apartment is her dream apartment.”
Sophie looked confused.
“It’s Colin’s favorite novelist, Soph.” Kate chuckled.
“Favorite? No, favorite is an understatement. She is more like his muse” Anthony chirped.
“Anthony, please…” Colin glared at Anthony, “Be. Cool.” He faked whisper to Anthony, even though he knew the entire table could hear him.
“But you said you didn’t read many novels?” Sophie asked once more, still not grasping the entire situation.
“To be fair, he had only read hers. Well, excluding all the novels he read in school of course.” Eloise said with great fervor.
“Really?” Sophie looked amused.
“Sophie, if you come to his place, you will find her poetry, written in calligraphy, framed on his wall.” Hyacinth said while shaking her head.
“She’s also a poet?” Sophie asked again.
“Well, you can say she is, she posted them on twitter and Colin had someone calligraphed it for him.” Hyacinth gleefully exposed her brother’s secret explained.
“He also pre-ordered her novels. Hardcovers, Paperback, he has it all.” Francesca added with a proud smile.
“Oh god” Colin covered his face with both of his hands, mortified.
“Colin! I never thought you are such a fanboy.” Sophie giggled.
“I am not a fanboy. I just- just- really respect her and admire her works, that is all.”
“Right dearest. Of course we believe you.” Violet could not contain her laugh.
“Oop! Colin the fanboy will meet her very soon guys, she just submitted her offer” Daphne winked at her brother.
Colin’s eyes looked at his sister’s wistfully,
And for the rest of the night he couldn’t seem to hide his smile.
