Chapter Text
The morning after was a bit of a blur, Loki awoke to the smell of Belgian waffles and fresh coffee and the sound of the shower running in the en-suite bathroom. The room was dimly lit by the sconce next to the bed and the curtains ajar revealing a grey sky. Her eyes felt heavy and sore, head slightly pounding as she recalled sobbing into Mobius’s shoulder the night prior. She tried not to think about it too much during breakfast, sitting at the circular dining table next to the window, ignoring the way Mobius’s legs brushed hers almost as if they were holding her up in her seat. Just get through this morning at the airport and we can talk on the plane. Loki told themself, ruffling their hair in the mirror as they got dressed. It wasn’t a secret that Loki was back on Midgard, they weren’t hiding their presence and they had an agreement with the authorities, but that didn’t change the way Midgardians felt about her since the stunt in New York 2012. She understood how they felt about her and she didn’t blame them for how they felt. The Midgardians had every right to be upset, but you would think that they would have dropped the issue after over a decade, after everything that happened with Thanos. Clearly there were worse threats in the universe than Loki. Once at the airport there were certainly some glares, people glancing and trying to point without being obvious (bless them), but Loki focused on the feeling of Mobius’s hand entwined with his own. Just ignore them, focus on Mobius.
“You weren’t kidding when you said first class!” Mobius grinned, squeezing Loki’s hand as they clinked their mimosa glasses together.
“You thought I was lying about that?? I wasn’t joking when I said I would only get on a plane if it was first class.” Loki smiled back, taking a sip from his glass and feeling some of the weight fall off his shoulders. It wasn’t necessarily a lie, but he’d be damned if he didn’t give Mobius the luxury he deserves. When Mobius mentioned wanting to travel to experience the places he had been to, Loki wanted to give him the world and more. Mobius deserves more after everything the TVA put him through, taking the memories of his life prior to the TVA and when he began to question discrepancies early in his career, the brainwashing, everything. “You said you wanted to travel the old fashioned way, what better than to do it first class?”
“After my heart I see.” Mobius chuckled, taking another sip of his glass and setting it down in the cup holder. “Thank you for doing this for me, by the way. I know being out in public isn’t easy for you and before you protest, I know you. You’re not that hard to read babe.”
Loki smiled down at her glass, feeling her cheeks heat up, and squeezed Mobius' hand in response. “You make it easier to ignore the looks. What do you remember about Greece?” He asked, remembering the tiny snippets from Mobius’ memories from when Loki enchanted him. Mobius was one of the small handful of agents who declined returning to their prior lives; Loki couldn’t understand why at the time but perhaps now they can.
Loki watched as Mobius pursed his lips, eyes squinting as he tried to recall the moment in his mind. “Not much really, it’s more like feelings? I remember feeling the heat of the sun, the food tasting amazing,” Mobius smiled, turning his head to meet Loki’s eyes, “I remember feeling my body swaying, almost like dancing? It doesn’t make much sense but-”
“-No, no that’s alright. I- I can try to show you more if you’d like?”
“This might sound cheesy but I’d rather make new memories- new ones with you.” Mobius whispered, holding Loki’s gaze before looking down at their hands, a blush creeping to his cheeks.
Loki felt his heart flutter in his chest, still getting used to feeling wanted and cared for. It had been a few months now that Loki had returned to Midgard, had returned to Mobius, but it still surprised them every morning that Mobius chose them out of the millions of people on Midgard- chose Loki over his life prior to the TVA. Loki blushed himself, looking down at their entwined hands, “I would be honored to.”
__________
It was sometime in the evening when they arrived at their hotel in Myrina, the sun low along the horizon. Loki had gotten out of the shower to find Mobius curled up in the reading nook in the room, reading a brochure about local restaurants nearby. Loki watched and admired their lover, backlit by the setting sun casting hues of red and purple across their face. Mobius was beautiful and Loki could watch him all day. It was Mobius’s turn to raise a brow when their eyes met, smiling as he held back a laugh,“Like what you see?”
“Yes I do actually, I like it a lot.” Loki smiled back, walking over to the dresser and reaching for the camera Mobius had packed. “Can you look back down at the brochure?” Loki watched as Mobius grinned wider, shaking his head as he obliged. Loki raised the camera up and held it steady, ready to snap a photo. “You look beautiful Mobius,” Loki breathed, capturing Mobius’s reaction.
“So do you, come here. I want one with you in it.” Mobius blushed, scooting so his back was flush against the wall and let his knees hang off of the bench.
Loki smiled and enchanted the camera to hold its position, grabbing the remote Mobius had made at a shop, and taking a seat next to Mobius. Loki handed Mobius the remote, turning his body slightly towards Mobius to get a better look at him, “You really do look beautiful.”
“Loki, where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise, you’ll see it when we get there.” Loki hummed, squeezing Mobius’ hand as Loki led them through a portal. Loki turned around and procured a blindfold, raising it to Mobius’ gaze. “I know you’re going to peek so if it’s alright with you I’m going to put this over your eyes and lead you the rest of the way.”
Mobius laughed and nodded, starting to protest that he wouldn’t peek when Loki fondly rolled their eyes. “Not even a teeny tiny peek?”
“What part of it’s a surprise don’t you get??” Loki laughed, turning Mobius around and gently tying the silk material over his eyes. “Not too tight?” When Mobius shook his head Loki turned him back around and took both of Mobius’s hands in his own. “We’re going to go down a small slope so just take small steps. We’re not too far.”
Soon after Loki stepped back beside Mobius, resting a hand on the small of Mobius’s back. They tried to calm their nerves by looking out at the arrangement they had made. Lanterns lit the small dining table along the coast, overlooking the moonlit water. “You can take it off now.” Loki whispered, pressing a kiss to Mobius’s head. Loki watched as Mobius took off the blindfold, eyes adjusting to the moon, and took in his surroundings. “Do you like it?”
“I don’t know what to say… you did this for me?” Mobius breathed, turning to look at Loki. “I love it, I really do.”
Loki smiled, taking Mobius’ hand and guiding him to the table. The lanterns that lit a path slowly floated up as they passed, suspended in a green glow. Loki pushed in Mobius’ chair and took their seat across from him. Loki snapped their fingers and the domes covering their plates disappeared, revealing their dinner. Loki watched as Mobius’ eyes widened, remembering the dish from his memories.
“Is this…?”
“Yes. It’s called aubergine saganaki and on the other plate you have tagliatelle with smoked salmon.” Loki nodded, gesturing at each plate as he spoke. “And we have salad with radicchio, goat cheese, and apple cider vinaigrette. Ready to eat?”
Mobius nodded, unsure of where to begin. They ate in comfortable silence, occasionally swapping plates to try one another’s dish.
Mobius was the first to stand, he walked over to Loki’s side and held out his hand, “Dance with me.”
“There isn’t any mu-”
“I’ll sing to you if you must have music.” Mobius smiled.
Loki looked up at him and couldn’t help but smile back, feeling a warmth stretch across her chest and up to her cheeks. Loki shook her head and placed her hand in Mobius’s, raising from her seat and placing her hand on Mobius’s shoulder. “I insist on you singing now,” she murmured, resting her forehead on Mobius’.
Mobius chuckled, wrapping his arm around Loki’s waist, and held her closer. Mobius squeezed Loki’s hand and began swaying them. “Wise men say, only fools rush in. But I can’t help falling in love with you.”
Loki hadn't noticed he had shrunk down a few inches shorter, resting his cheek against Mobius's, smiling at how Mobius' stubble grazed his cheek. Loki closed his eyes, listening to Mobius' voice, and felt at home in the arms of his lover.
