Chapter Text
Wind rushed past their ears as their clothes flapped wildly. The three boys raced as fast as their legs would carry them towards the cottage. Well, Virgil jumped from tree to tree while the other two tried to keep up. To Virgil’s, and Roman's surprise, Logan was able to keep up fairly well. As they raced to the house Logan wondered how he let this happen. Patton would have told him not to put all the blame on himself but he couldn't help it. His job was to protect, and he'd failed. Right now tho, he had to focus. Thomas was in danger and that was more important than anything that was going through his head. Logan and Roman quickly changed into more suitable clothes while Virgil shifted back and forth in the living room awkwardly. This was it. He had imagined for his whole life what it might be like be like to come in here, and here he was. It was a bit anticlimactic if he were honest, circumstances disregarded. He still couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like to live with them, it was his first dream after all. He could still remember escaping, hiding, surviving… finding out the others weren’t who he was told they were..
When the two boys came back out Virgil looked up from his hands and froze.
"I know, I'm hot right?" Roman grinned as he flexed with his sword in hand.
Virgil's face turned various shades of red as he just stood in place, hoping maybe if he didn’t move he could simply disappear all together; Thomas be damned. Logan, ever the voice of reason, piped up before this got anymore embarrassing. "Please refrain from teasing him, Roman. We have more important matters to attend to."
Roman simply rolled his eyes and laced up his sneakers, but there was a seriousness to his expression that seeped into his every movement. He was well aware of the predicament they were in.
Virgil let his mind wander slightly as he fiddled with the zipper on his hoodie. Despite his thoughts on the two "protectors", he found that they weren't the most infuriating people to be around. Even if he personally believed they were incompetent and unfit for their roles.
Walking down the path to the cave, Logan realized just how small this mystery boy is. In fact he was just barely taller than his chest. There was a light snicker from beside him, Logan looked up in confusion. Roman was trying to hold back his laughter as he pointed to Virgil. He turned to see the hooded boy flushed with embarrassment.
"I know I'm short, okay? You don't gotta say something about it…"
Now it was Logan's turn to be embarrassed, ears tinged red he cleared his throat.
"I-I apologize, I didn't mean to say that out loud nor did I intend to offend you I assure-."
Before Logan could continue his rambling though, Roman set a tense hand on his shoulder.
"We're here."
