Chapter Text
——————————————————————————
Standing in the ruins of L’Manberg, a place never fully
brought together, a symphony forever unfinished, destroyed. A place that was once lively and enchanting, now brought to the end of its existence, a shell of what it was. Now bleak and deserted.
“He’s back, Fundy.” The older man tilted his head down, as if his hat were to protect him from having to look at his grandson, to tell him that his father was back from the dead, a death that his own grandfather caused.
“No no no, this can’t happen.” the fox hybrid cried out, the cold air brushing against his fur, the wind picking up.
“How is he back? He died! Remember? You- you killed him..” he stepped back slowly in a panic, almost tripping over his tail, he trailed off, Fundy’s words getting caught in his throat as it was getting harder to speak
*he can’t be back.. how is Wilbur alive? No this can’t be happening, this isn’t real.. Am I awake right now? I can’t tell anymore, I haven't slept in so long, how did I even get here? Wait, when did Phil get here? How-*
His thoughts get interrupted by the older man abruptly setting a hand on Fundy’s shoulder,
“Fundy, I think he’s coming.” the old man said quietly, with a worried expression sowed across his face,
“what?” Fundy turns around, only to see a desert in front of him, nothing but sand and cacti. He looks down, seeing sand beneath him.
“No.. no no no no!” The fox hybrid quickly blinks and turns around to view his every direction, only to see that he’s trapped in a desert, a wasteland, alone.
He drops to his knees in sheer panic and frustration
“Please.. Not again..” he cries out.
“Fundy?” a familiar voice rings throughout his skull, the fox looks up to see him. Wilbur. The wavy brown haired man chuckles, “Fundy, I've found you.” he pulls out a sword, running towards Fundy, getting closer and closer and-
“no!-” Fundy sits up, breathing slowing from the violently fast pace in which it was, clutching his orange blanket to feel the soft texture, to bring him back from his state of panic, to feel *something*. He checks the time on the clock on the wall to his left.
*2:45 PM. I barely got 2 hours of sleep, I guess that’s better than the usual..*
The fox looks around the room, to realize that he’s in his home. “It was just a dream. It wasn’t real” he sighs, feeling his throat. it felt sore and he knew a cough was soon to come on. he knew the lack of sleep would cause him to get sick sooner or later, he sighs again holding his face in his hand, knowing the cycle won’t stop, only to continue every night, weeks on end without any sleep, he was getting so tired of it.
“When will it stop? I need rest... I can't keep doing this.” he pauses to think, “I can’t sleep, I don’t have time, I have to prepare for what might happen, I know these dreams.. Er, nightmares more like, are- are telling me something, I know they are. I just..”
he turns to the corner of his room, to see a blue box, inside is filled with all his old stuffed animals and little gear, the fox hybrid insisted on keeping the toys after Phil claimed that he was getting rid of it to ‘clean up a bit’? whatever that meant.
“I haven't regressed in a while either.. It used to be every weekend or so, but now it's been months, and with everything going on.. If Wilbur really is back then I can't let him find out that I regress, he could use it against me or hurt me, I-” his words cut short by a quick squeak caused by the small animal on the end of his bed.
*oh yeah, my fox*
Fundy turns towards the small fox, causing it to shift its paws slightly, “It’s been a while since you got some fresh berries, huh bud?” the fox tilts its head, slightly jumping in place.
“I’ll take that as a yes then. let’s see what we have.” Fundy slowly climbed out of bed, eventually setting his feet (well, back paws more like) on the floor, wincing at the feeling of the cold wood floor beneath him. He walks over to the chests to look for his axe,
*since i’m going to be out there looking for berries; i might as well get some wood while i’m at it*
fundy opens up the first chest, moving items around trying to find an axe, but with no luck. 20 minutes or so passed of him looking through all his chests with no luck of finding his netherite axe, he looked through all of the chests! ..well, all but one.
Fundy turns towards the blue chest, reluctantly opening it in hopes of finding his tool.
*please be in here please i can’t afford another netherite axe*
he looks down to see a slight shine, ah! there it is! grabbing his axe and pulling it out of the chest, he also sees something underneath it.
*a pacifier. oh.*
feeling the inching feeling of fog creep on him, “it’s been a while since i've used this..” he shook his head, shaking the thought of regression from his mind, still feeling a slight fuzziness in his thoughts . he decided it was time to head out and get some fresh berries, and maybe just walk around for a bit to clear his mind. he got up and walked out the door, taking a deep breath of the fresh May air. *i should get out more often*.
