Chapter 4: I love you

Chapter Text

Sol found it impossible to sleep that night. She couldn't stop thinking about what they both said to each other hours before. Jiwan loved her as much as she did, she was interested in the same way and now she didn't know how they were going to deal with that situation. She didn't find it a problem to imagine them dating, but she knew that for the shorter one it wasn't the same case. Jiwan was scared and it was something she understood perfectly; she had gone through the same thing when she finally accepted her feelings for her best friend.

The next morning, she was in the studio with Nabi and, although she tried to stay active, she couldn't help falling asleep for a few minutes until her friend brought her back to reality. Sol realized that her situation was even worse than she had imagined when Nabi asked her if she had written her report for the exhibition as she had completely forgotten it and she was not the type of student to leave homework to the last minute.

The taller one was quietly wailing and, when Nabi asked if anything was going on, she was quick to deny. Both hands were held to her forehead as she told herself to concentrate despite whatever was going on with Jiwan.

– Hey, Jiwan.

When the taller one heard Nabi pronounce her best friend's name she immediately turned around. Jiwan looked just as tired as she did, and it was then that Sol realized that they were both having an equally hard time. Now that they were aware of their feelings, they didn't know how to handle the situation and that was scary.

– What?

When Jiwan was pulled out of her thoughts she was unable to avoid the taller one's gaze. It was as if the world exploded when their eyes met, once again it felt as if it was just the two of them in an absolutely empty place. Their hearts thudded feeling the need to give themselves deeply to each other, but their minds prevented them from doing so. Once again reasoning was causing neither of them to know what to do when all they had to do was to trust their feelings. Everything seemed to be different now. They felt nervous just being in each other's presence in the same room and hoped that wouldn't last long. Their hearts were pounding so hard that their chests ached, and they felt their breathing suddenly quicken.

– Nabi, I’ll be in the lecture room.

Jiwan warned, she didn't think she could socialize properly with Sol right in front of her.

– We can go together.

– No, it’s fine. See you later.

The shorter one turned around without further ado and made sure to walk fast enough so that she would not be followed. She knew she couldn't avoid Yoon Sol for long, but, at least for now, she didn't feel she had enough courage to face her after what happened the night before. She was sure of her feelings for her best friend, but the whole relationship thing scared her, even more so when there was a possibility that it could end badly; losing Sol would be catastrophic for her.

– What’s up with her?

The taller one wanted to answer Nabi's question truthfully, but she wasn't sure if Jiwan would be bothered by telling something so intimate to a third person. Her confession had been a moment of utmost importance to both of them and she didn't think it wise to let anyone else know about it until they cleared things up between them.

– I don’t know.

She lied.

Sol took advantage of the time left before leaving the university to make progress on his exhibition report. Nabi wanted to offer her some help and, on this occasion, the taller one accepted it without hesitation. She had agreed to meet Juhyeok in the afternoon of that day simply because she needed to talk to someone else and see if she could clear her mind, she needed to stop thinking about Jiwan even for a few hours, but she found it impossible when everything in her life was directly or indirectly related to her.

She thanked her friend for her help before leaving the university to go to the cafeteria where she would meet the boy. It didn't take her long to walk there and, fortunately for her, he was already waiting for her so she wouldn't have to wait any longer. He behaved appropriately as usual and they began a pleasant conversation about what they had done since the last time they had seen each other. Everything was going well until Sol noticed that he was getting more and more nervous as time went on. He took a sip of his coffee as he watched Juhyeok take some tickets out of his backpack and place them on the table in front of them both.

– This exhibition’s opening this week. Let’s go together.

– Together?

He began to play with his hands in nervousness. The truth was that he had been attracted to Sol since the first time he saw her, but he didn't quite understand why it seemed so complicated for her to realize his feelings when it was all too obvious from the start.

– Yes, I’m asking you out on a date.

The taller one held her breath. This was definitely not going to end well. She didn't want to be ungrateful when Juhyeok had been treating her well all along, but she wasn't going to be able to accept an invitation like that right after she had just confessed to the love of her life. It wouldn't be fair to both of them, let alone him.

– I like you, Sol. I’ve liked you since I first met you at the cafe.

It was impossible for Sol not to remember the words Jiwan had said to her in the guesthouse. She remembered when her best friend confessed to her that she liked her more than anyone else in the world and felt like bursting into tears. She knew Juhyeok's confession was sincere, but she couldn’t feel anything compared to what she felt with Jiwan. She was a little saddened by the current situation because he was a nice guy, but she couldn't force herself to feel something for him when she was already head over heels in love with someone else.

– Oh…

– You’re not seeing anyone, are you?

– I’m not, but… I actually have someone I like.

Sol felt terrible when he noticed the change of countenance on Juhyeok's face, but he really couldn't accept his feelings. She didn't like men and she was in love with the same person for the past ten years; she was sure that her feelings would not go away even if she kept trying.

– I see. Do you have a crush on someone?

Sol nodded.

– Then did you… I guess it’s too personal. I’m sorry.

– I did tell her how I feel. Because my desires kept growing.

That was true. Sol had dared to confess because, unlike what he had expected, his feelings only increased as time went on. When she was younger, she had hoped that her thoughts of Jiwan were fleeting, that it was just a middle school crush, but that wasn't the case. The coexistence and intimacy he had with his best friend only made him fall even more in love with her, something impossible to avoid. Jiwan was a magical person that you could only meet once in a lifetime; she was kind, caring, attentive, pleasant and empathetic. She had everything Sol was looking for in a person, in fact, she was the person the tallest one hoped to find all her life. Sometimes she thought Jiwan was nothing more than a miracle, she didn't know exactly what she did in her past life to deserve such a person, but she thought it must have been something truly good.

The rest of the conversation was awkward, but the two were able to get out of it when Juhyeok received an urgent call from work that forced him to leave. He apologized for being nosy about their romantic situation, but Sol told him not to worry about it. On the other hand, Jiwan and Nabi were at the university, her friend knew perfectly well that something was going on between the two of them and had a slight idea about it, but she didn't want to assume anything until she was completely sure what was going on.

– So you’re saying that your friend said they like you and you like them back – Jiwan nodded –. But you’re afraid of ruining your friendship?

Nabi found it a little funny that they both thought they were being discreet when that was far from the truth. Jiwan had told Nabi everything that was going on omitting names, but to be honest, who else could she be talking about besides Sol? She was the only close friend she had who could fit in perfectly with the story, but she still preferred not to comment on it and just listen.

– Yes. If we start dating but break up later… well, my friend is capable and has everything.

Jiwan explained. She mistakenly believed that, should the two of them ever be separated, Sol would not have much trouble getting well in a short time. The shorter girl had always seen her best friend as too good a person to be with, but she was grateful every day that she chose her as her best friend anyway. If they started dating and then ended their friendship would come to an end and she would be devastated, but she didn't think Sol would be as hurt as she was. She was so wrong.

– Losing me won’t be a big deal. But without my friend, it’d be the same as losing half of my life. I’d be screwed.

We must remember the fact that Sol has been with Jiwan most of her life, she considered her an indispensable person and she really didn't want to lose her. That was her only fear. She knew that if she started a relationship with Sol, she would be happier than ever, but that thought has been haunting her all along and she's not sure if it's worth risking everything to start dating.

– I envy you.

– What? I’m so confused right now. Why would you envy me?

– Your friend’s your other half. That means you’re both so sure about your feelings. That’s a great thing. Plus, from my experience… I mean, what I think is that you two can’t go back to the way things were. Unless you both lose your memories, you’ll never be able to just be friends again.

Jiwan covered her ears as she shook her head again and again. She knew what Nabi was saying was true, but she really didn't want to think about it until she made things right with Sol. Lately, they couldn't be okay like they used to be, but that was precisely why. It was impossible for them to go back to the togetherness they used to have when they already confessed such important things.

– Please stop stating cold hard facts.

– So, don’t suffer like this all by yourself and talk to your friend. Who knows? That friend might be thinking the same thing.

That last she said only because she was sure Sol felt the same way. Nabi had become close enough to Sol to realize that there was distracting her from what, until now, she believed was most important to the taller one. Nabi had always believed that Sol cared about her academic situation more than anything else, but now she was sure that wasn't the case. What Sol cared about most was Jiwan.

The rest of the day passed quickly, and they only wrote to each other to make sure they would go together to their date with their friends the next day. They agreed to meet at a midpoint to arrive together at the place they had agreed upon. When they met face to face, they simply greeted each other and went on their way. That time Jiwan was not even able to hold Sol's arm as she usually did, their situation was uncomfortable at this very moment. When they met their other friends, took a seat, and ordered something to drink while sharing a nice conversation.

– I’m getting married.

One of them mentioned. The three of them looked at her with surprise and moved a little closer to make sure that what they had just heard was true. None of them were aware that they were now adults until that moment, someone within their social circle had become engaged and that made the rest of them analyze the situation from a different perspective.

– You’re getting married?

– When will you get married?

Sol asked.

– The beginning of next year. I feel we’d break up if we don’t. It’s already been over five years. And we’ve been working for three years now. I wanted some changes in my life, it’s like… a turning point in our relationship.

It was impossible for both of them to look at each other for a few seconds when they heard the last thing.

– A turning point in a relationship…

Jiwan said quietly.

It was then that she felt illuminated by a ray of non-existent light. It was the same thing that was happening with her and Sol, just like her friend was afraid that their relationship would come to an end if she did not dare to make a change. She thought about Nabi's words, and they replayed over and over inside her head, they would never be the same as before because now they were committed many more things then, even though she was terrified of the idea, something had to change. Maybe starting a relationship was the turning point in the relationship her friend had just mentioned.

The meeting came to an end an hour later and everyone made sure to congratulate their friend on the engagement. Sol asked Jiwan if she wanted her to walk her home and she agreed. They followed the usual path, but, as they passed the park, Jiwan walked to one of the swings just to sit down. The taller one smiled tenderly and imitated her, sitting on the swing next to hers. The minutes of silence caused Jiwan to start fiddling with her hands nervously. She thought Sol would say something but realizing that would not be the case she took a deep breath before daring to speak.

– Sol.

The taller one straightened up when she heard her best friend’s call.

– Yes?

– If I say that I don’t like you in that way… – turned her head to stare at Sol – then what will happen to us?

Sol turned her head away after hearing that. She was sure that Jiwan liked her, but she also knew that fear could be bigger than her feelings. The truth was that she was going to respect if the shorter one didn't want to start a relationship or something outside of friendship with her, but that doesn't mean it didn't hurt.

– Then I’ll keep liking you like I do now – Sol saw her again – and you won’t return my feelings.

The nostalgic expression on the face of the girl she liked made her feel her heart squeeze. She lowered her gaze without stopping playing with her fingers, she knew she had to make it clear that she was sure of her feelings despite everything, but she also wanted to let him understand the fear that kept invading her since the day she confessed for the first time.

– And if I say I do like you?

– What?

Jiwan swallowed hard, a lump had formed in her throat perhaps as a defense mechanism not to speak, but she didn't plan to listen to it, not this time. If she told her everything she felt at once they could move on and then they would come to an agreement. She closed her eyes and began to sink into the troubled waters that represented the most hidden places of her thoughts, there where she kept all the memories that she could not forget even if she wanted to because she already kept them jealously under lock and key in her memory.

– Then we’ll break up someday.

Sol did nothing, her features didn't even falter, she figured it was a safe pass to continue talking so she plucked up her courage and continued. She had no idea how to express something like this, she had never spoken about it out loud, much less with the one responsible for her feelings. She was terrified, as if in a small panic attack that she didn't want to accept only to end up lying on the floor trembling and crying.

– But I don’t want us to stay like this, either.

Sol didn't take her eyes off her at any moment and, after hearing that last one, she couldn't stop the sincerest smile she had ever seen from forming on her face. Jiwan did want to have more than just a friendship with her, but she was scared that at some point their relationship would come to an end and that would ruin everything they had built for over ten years. She thought it was too cute that she believed after ten years of being head over heels in love with her that his feelings would suddenly change. She laughed softly before standing up and kneeling in front of the shorter one's swing, forcing her to look her directly in the eyes.

– Is that what was troubling you?

Jiwan nodded with a pout on her face.

– What do we do?

When Sol was able to see the first tear escape Jiwan's eyes she had a hint of a response and reached out to gently take her hands, just as she had done on the Ferris wheel. This act seemed to have an effect because Jiwan's features relaxed at the mere feel of her touch. Sol looked at her with sparkling eyes and slightly red cheeks, it was the first time the shorter girl had seen her best friend with such a sincere expression on her face. Sol wasn't exactly the most demonstrative person when it came to her feelings, so this was completely new for both of them.

Sol smiled again.

– Seo Jiwan, my feelings will never change.

Jiwan felt her heart squeeze inside her chest as she heard the words coming from Sol's lips. She felt her whole body burn as the taller one wrapped both arms around her neck to bring their bodies together in a hug that was completely different from the ones, they had had for all the years of their friendship. Jiwan felt safe with her. She was always comfortable beyond differences, always understood that Sol was the only person with whom she could be free, but she had not been aware of the limits of that freedom until this moment. That day they had both crossed the line to test it and she found out at last, making one of the reasons she liked him more obvious, everything became much clearer. No, these were things she knew perfectly well, however, because of that unexpected reaction her feelings grew even more.

– So… don’t worry.

Sol had been in a constant struggle to achieve happiness all her life and she was sure that this moment was the step before everything she had been waiting for. She stared into the eyes of her beloved Jiwan and smiled as she noticed that she was doing the same. Her heart was softened to find her blushing with joy without needing to adorably hide her elated face as usual. The taller one's heart gave an unwelcome leap before he approached her again with the sole intention of hugging her again. The reassurance she felt when Jiwan wrapped both arms around her waist to reciprocate the embrace was inexplicable.

They remained in the same position until they felt the raindrops suddenly hit their bodies. They laughed softly as they separated, both of their cheeks were flushed, and their eyes sparkled from this new kind of happiness.
– You’re everything I’ve been waiting for.

Jiwan felt a great weakness take hold of all her limbs, even her knees began to give out and she was sure she would have fallen to the ground if she hadn't been sitting down. Both were now soaking wet from the rain, but they cared little.

– All the way I did until now was to get to you because I like you… I like you so much and it’s always been like that.

Sol declared before standing up, still looking at her.

– I like you so much that I could scream it – confessed the tallest –. I like you, Seo Jiwan! I like you more than anyone else and I’m not going to hide it anymore!

Sol was about to continue shouting to express her happiness but kept silent when she felt the shorter one's grip on her wrist. It was a quick movement that made her turn all the way around until she was only inches away from Jiwan's face. They both held their breath.

– How do you do it?

Jiwan asked, but Sol was unable to understand what she meant by having her so close.

– What?

– How do you always have the right words?

Sol felt the air leave her lungs as she felt Jiwan's lips brush hers.

The taller one merely closed her eyes before pressing her lips to hers, finally kissing her. It was a tender and leisurely encounter. Sol's hands went to the shorter one's cheeks and hers went around the taller one's neck. Their bodies trembled at the new contact, and they decided to lose themselves for a moment in this new reality.

The kiss was a simple brush of lips, or it was until Sol took the first step to deepen it. Her tongue slid along Jiwan's lower lip causing her to let out a soft sound of acceptance as she opened her mouth wider. Sol didn't miss the opportunity and deepened the kiss quickly. The movements were soft and tender, being the first time, they wanted to enjoy as much as they could this new kind of contact and intimacy.

Sol smiled when they parted, but before doing so completely she made sure to leave little kisses on the corner of the shorter girl's lips, making her giggle. Jiwan's eyes were still closed as he enjoyed the taller one's soft touches on her cheeks; still unable to believe what had just happened.

– Let’s date, Jiwan.

Sol mentioned as raindrops ran down her forehead.

The shorter one smiled before accepting, she had never accepted anything so quickly in her life.

It was the weekend and the two had agreed to have their first official date as a couple. It had been two days since they had decided to start dating and, since then, they hadn't been able to stop writing or calling each other. They both found it curious that they weren't doing anything out of the ordinary as they always used to keep in touch on the days they didn't go to college, but now everything seemed to have a completely different meaning. A perfect example was the night before, it was Saturday and they decided to have a facetime. The two of them talked a bit about what they did the day before and Sol showed her girlfriend some sketches she had done. Jiwan felt her heart squeeze as she realized that the taller one had been drawing her the whole time. After talking they decided to watch a movie together despite the distance and inadvertently fell asleep before they could even finish the call.

It was Sunday and Sol had driven by her all the way home. The shorter one smiled when she saw her and invited her to her room. Once inside she couldn't help but wrap both arms around her neck and place a small, but warm kiss on the taller one's lips.

– You look so pretty.

The shorter one's cheeks flushed before she pulled away. Yoon Sol still couldn't believe that, after so many years, she was now in this situation. Jiwan was dating her, just like in her dreams. This was all more than she could have ever imagined, and she was truly grateful for it. She smiled as she looked at the other's red cheeks and held them gently, playing a little. The shorter one moaned at first, but she couldn't help but laugh when she saw that Sol was smiling so much because of it. The taller one sat on her girlfriend's bed as she amusingly watched her finish getting ready. Jiwan kept smiling as she did so thanks to the other's compliments; Sol kept telling her how pretty she was, and it only made her feel nervous.

When she was finally able to finish her hairstyle turned on her heels and walked over to Sol, taking her face with both hands, and leaving a soft kiss on her cheek. The taller girl's eyes closed as she felt her girlfriend's lips on her skin, she felt like she would never get used to that new kind of contact, but it was okay. That way every moment with his girlfriend would be as special as the first.

Jiwan mentioned that they should leave before it got late but Sol wanted to joke a bit by saying that she felt tired and would rather stay so she could rest. Her girlfriend's reaction was not entirely positive, as she complained repeatedly until she forced her to get up while letting out a couple of guffaws. She seriously acted like a teenager at times, but it looked cute on her. They left the shorter one's house and walked a couple of blocks before catching the bus that would drop them off right outside the mall. They sat together and Jiwan kept playing absentmindedly with their hands together during the whole ride, which only made the taller one feel even more touched.

The bus ride took approximately ten minutes, and, upon arrival, Sol made sure that her partner carefully enough descended the stairs of the transport. They thanked the driver aloud and, as soon as they started walking towards the entrance, Jiwan took it upon herself to hold his hand. The taller one kept smiling, she could finally go out with her knowing that their relationship had taken a completely different turn. She didn't have to hide her feelings anymore, Jiwan was dating her and that was much more than she could have ever imagined.

When they entered the mall the shorter one was quick to mention that she wanted to go to the clothing stores and, as usual, she could not refuse his request. They entered one of the busiest stores in the place and Sol was able to hear how some guys were whispering about her girlfriend's good looks. She knew there wasn't much reason to be jealous anymore, I mean, Jiwan had chosen her over any other guy she had dated and that made her feel safe, however, she wasn't pleased that others saw the shorter one in the same way she did. To avoid this, she released her hand only to slip her arm around her shoulders, embracing her in a much more intimate and protective way.

Homosexuality wasn't something entirely approved of in Korea, so they obviously got some strange looks from the elders, but neither of them minded at all. They were aware that it was too old-fashioned a nation, but they didn't plan to conform to what others expected of them just because they cared about their opinion. If they disliked the fact that they were both dating they could just go to hell.

– Yoon Sol, look at these!

The taller one couldn't help but smile as she realized that her partner was pointing to the window display where the couple's sweaters were displayed. Jiwan ran over and immediately grabbed two, handing the larger one to her girlfriend.

– They will look cute on us!

Sol chuckled under her breath before nodding. It was too simple, but it meant everything to both. It was the way they would make their relationship public without having to say it. The truth was that Sol was very curious to see the reaction of her friends, had any of them suspected it yet?

The shorter one was running around the store picking out everything she thought was cute. Sol blushed at the mere thought of imagining Jiwan wearing all those new clothes and it only added a little more excitement to her current state of love. When it was time to pay the shorter one approached one of the checkouts and, as she was about to take the money out of her purse, Sol was quicker. She gave her card to the cashier intending to pay for her girlfriend's purchases. Jiwan's face changed color completely, despite being used to this kind of behavior coming from the taller one, the fact that they were now together made it much more meaningful.

– You didn’t have to; I could pay for it on my own.

She whispered as she held the bag in her hands. Sol chuckled under her breath before holding it, offering to carry it so Jiwan could walk more comfortably.

– I wanted to do it.

Jiwan ducked her head to try to hide the silly grin that formed on her face, but to no avail. When the taller one held her hand her heart skipped a beat, but she couldn’t comment on it because Sol forced her to walk to one of the restaurants. It was a noodle restaurant, so they were able to share a nice meal. Sol fed the shorter one some pieces of meat from her own plate and Jiwan always thanked her with a tender smile on her face. Sol loved to be the cause of happiness on the face of her girlfriend.
Sol wanted to pay for the food too, but Jiwan stopped her. The taller one wanted to reply, but her partner was quick to remind her that she was going to do it because she had already paid at the store.

The rest of their appointment went smoothly. They had done nothing new; they were used to shopping together, but the new attitudes or gestures they took with each other made the experience completely different. Before leaving Jiwan mentioned that he wanted to come in to watch a movie with her and Sol agreed. It was the same movie she had seen with the last guy she had dated, and she was right in saying that the taller one was going to love it. Now that they were both in a relationship the movie was even more special for both of them, they felt moved and identified with everything that was happening on the screen and it was impossible for them not to share a couple of kisses during the screening of the movie.
It was evening when the movie ended and, as usual, the taller one accompanied Jiwan home.

– It’s late, you should stay here.

Jiwan suggested.

– But tomorrow we have college, I must change my clothes and…

Jiwan chuckled under her breath before grabbing her girlfriend's wrist to force her into her home. She seemed too worried about things that had a simple solution.

– I’m sure something from my closet will look cute on you.

Sol wanted to say something else but found it impossible because by the time she wanted to reply, she was back in Jiwan's room. The shorter girl searched through her drawers for comfortable clothes so that her girlfriend could sleep peacefully and gave them to her immediately.

Sol looked at the garments for a few seconds and, as she was about to thank Jiwan, she noticed that she was holding the edge of her blouse with both hands with the intention of taking it off. Her eyes widened in surprise, and she hurried to get up, walking over to where she stood to grab her wrist, avoiding the action.

– Will you change here?

She asked with surprise. Jiwan's brow furrowed, it wasn't the first time she had changed in front of Sol, so.... what was the problem?

– Do you have a problem with that? I have done it before.

– Well yes, but it´s different now…

– Why?

Jiwan frowned as she saw the nervous expression on Yoon Sol's face. Her cheeks had turned a slight shade of red and she thought it was adorable, however, she didn't quite understand why her girlfriend was reacting that way. She had never been in a relationship with a girl before, but she was sure that, usually, intimacy increased the moment they became a couple.

The taller one knew she shouldn't be reacting that way as Jiwan was telling the truth, it wasn't the first time she changed her clothes in front of her, however, knowing that now she didn't have to repress her feelings seeing her like that and it scared her a little because she had no idea how she would react to a situation like that.

– It’s different now, don’t you think?

Jiwan raised an eyebrow in confusion.

– I don’t know, but… it’s a little scary.

The shorter one shook her head slightly before slowly releasing her grip on Sol. She brought both hands to the hem of her blouse again and, with dangerous slowness, slid it over her head leaving it on top of the chair in front of her desk. The taller one watched her warily, the flat abdomen and smooth exposed skin of his girlfriend made her body burn. Jiwan smiled as noticed Sol's reaction and took one of her hands to force her closer. She guided her partner's hands to her waist and the taller one couldn't help but caress the new area freely, this was something completely new for both of them, but they no longer felt uncomfortable at all.

– We are together now; you don’t have to be afraid.

Jiwan smiled before wrapping her arms around her girlfriend's body, gathering them in a warm embrace. Sol's heart stopped as she felt the shorter girl's lips on her cheek, kissing her again and again. The taller one laughed softly as she hugged Jiwan's bare waist, this was so much more than she could have ever imagined.

– I really like you, Sol – whispered in her ear –. I like you so much that my heart hurts.

A sigh of relief escaped Sol's lips. She was aware that Jiwan liked her, but she hadn't heard those words since her confession in the guesthouse. It was as if after hearing it there was a different perspective. She could feel Jiwan's breathing quicken and her heartbeat quicken. Sol plucked up his courage, pushed the shorter girl's hair to one side and buried his face in the newly exposed area. The very familiar and pleasant scent of her girlfriend reached up to her nose and she felt mesmerized. The taller one kissed her neck and Jiwan could do nothing else besides drop her head back to give Sol better access. All the shorter one could feel was her girlfriend's lips on her skin and her hands moving dangerously up and down her sides.

They stayed in that same position for a couple of seconds until Sol's lips made a path until they reached her partner's cheek, making her laugh adorably.

– You're not so nervous anymore, are you?

Sol laughed softly, feeling a little embarrassed. She couldn’t look away from Jiwan until she finished changing and the shorter one indicated that she should do the same. She had always been a little insecure about showing off her body, but she couldn't say no when her girlfriend had already done it. She changed quickly, and when she turned around, she noticed the shorter one's eyes sparkling as she watched her.

It didn't take long for Sol to lie down on the bed next to Jiwan as usual. The shorter girl's hands went around Sol's waist, and she hugged her shoulders, pulling her close to her body. They fell asleep in a matter of minutes as the day had been too heavy for both of them. When morning came, Sol looked for something that might fit her in Jiwan's closet; they definitely didn't use the same range of colors, but she didn't complain and grabbed a blouse she knew would fit her.

She went into Jiwan's bathroom and cleaned herself as best she could. She didn't have her hair products, so she had to improvise. When she came out it didn't take her long to dry her body and change into the clothes she found in her girlfriend's closet. Sol dried her hair with a small towel and laughed softly when she realized that Jiwan was still sound asleep on the bed. She combed her hair into a ponytail and put on a hair band as usual.

– Jiwan, it’s late.

Whispered the taller one after sitting on the edge of the bed and moving it a little having the intention of waking her up.

– Sol, go away.

She said grumpily as she rolled over on the bed, seeming to want to continue sleeping.

– We have class at first, we must go.

– You go ahead, I’ll come later.

The taller one wanted to reply but realized it would be pointless. Jiwan took her dream seriously so no matter how much she insisted, she would not change her mind. She shrugged and leaned down to leave a warm kiss on her girlfriend's cheek before whispering that she would see her in the studio, the shorter one simply nodded. Sol left the house and took the bus. The ride took about ten minutes from Jiwan's house, you could say that it was relatively close to the university, in fact, usually they both used to walk, but because of the time she preferred not to risk it.

Sol was in a very good mood. It was the first day she attended college after making official her relationship with Jiwan. She walked in with a huge smile painted on her face and stopped at a soda machine to buy something for Nabi. Sol knew she liked lemon drinks, so he made sure to bring her one like that. She entered the shop and walked to where her friend was sitting, she noticed her a bit discouraged and hoped that the detail could cheer her up at least a little.

– Nice – Nabi said as Sol set the soda down on the table –. Thank you.

– Is it not going well?

The taller one asked as she looked at Nabi’s sculpture.

– I should keep working on it, but my head feels blocked.

Sol smiled as she settled a little better on the bench. She found it impossible not to relate her situation with Jiwan to the one Nabi was having now. She understood that she felt that her problem would be unsolvable and that no matter how hard she came to work, there was little chance of getting what she was looking for. Sol felt the same way when she was with Jiwan, but just knowing that she had wrong made her very happy.

– But you know, some things just work out suddenly even when you think there’s no hope.

Nabi smiled as she watched the taller one. There was no way she could be more obvious.

– I guess something good is going on.

When Sol turned to look at her again the smile disappeared from her face. She inwardly regretted that she had not been subtle.

– What? No, nothing’s going on.

Nabi chuckled under her breath.

– I’m happy for you, Sol.

Sol felt panicked for a moment but seeing the sincere smile on Nabi's face she knew she would not be judged by her friend. She didn't know exactly how she had figured it out, but she didn't entirely care either, she felt happy because she would have the chance to talk it over with someone without them reacting in some strange way.

– Jezz, Seo Jiwan.

They both chuckled under their breath. It was a rather simple moment, but it felt like they were both loudly celebrating Yoon Sol's great achievement.

– Jiwan didn’t tell me directly. I just realized myself.

– I’m sure she was being really obvious.

Her friend watched her in disbelief, was Yoon Sol unaware of the way she used to look at Jiwan? When the taller girl looked at the other girl it was as if she was appreciating the most precious thing in her life; Nabi always knew that was not a look that would be given to a friend, but she never wanted to make assumptions about anything.

– You were more obvious, you know.

– I didn’t think I’d be like this.

She said as she stroked the back of her neck feeling embarrassed.

– Jiwan said you’re an excellent counselor.

Sol said.

– It’s easy to give advice to others but I can’t do anything myself.

Sol dared to ask about her current situation with Park Jae-eon and Nabi looked at her in confusion. Although she knew that the others were suspicious about what she had with him, she never thought they would take it for granted. She was even more surprised when she heard Yoon Sol mention that they made a good couple, and it didn't take long for her to ask why she believed that.

– Getting attracted to each other like that already makes it special.

Sol smiled as the image of Jiwan replayed in her mind repeatedly. All the good times she had spent with her led up to this very moment and it was then that she realized that everything she had to go through and the time she had spent repressing her feelings were worth it. Just knowing that Jiwan had become more than a friend like she had always wanted made her heart burst.

– It’s a miracle.

Nabi flashed a genuine smile. She understood what Sol was trying to say, but she didn't think her situation with Jae-eon resembled the relationship she had with Jiwan in the slightest. What the two of them built was something magical, a kind of love that could never be matched by any other. They were best friends for most of their lives and now their relationship was taking a completely different turn, yet she was sure they would cope quite well because they were the most important thing to each other. Sol and Jiwan loved each other and really wanted to be together, that made Nabi feel happy for her two friends.

– A miracle? That’s what I’d say about you and Jiwan.

– It’s nothing different.

– It’s totally different for us. Maybe it was all wrong from the beginning. It just feels that way – Nabi said as she turned to look at her sculpture –. I can’t find a solution.

– Maybe the problem is that you’re trying to find one.

Nabi was about to respond but was suddenly interrupted.

– Yoon Sol!

Both immediately observed the person who issued the call. Nabi smiled as she noticed how the taller one's eyes lit up at the mere sight of Jiwan, who ran to Sol's side to surround her in a quick hug. The shorter girl smiled as she broke away and realized that her girlfriend was doing the same, seeming surprised to see her arrive before class.

– You said would be late.

Jiwan greeted Nabi with a smile on her face before turning to Sol again, nodding.

– Yes, but I regretted it soon after.

Sol felt her cheeks redden as she felt Jiwan take a seat next to her and gently take her hand. The shorter girl was able to tell that Nabi was already aware of what was going on between them by the mischievous smile on her face and this brought her the reassurance she needed. When Sol looked at her, she couldn't help but chuckle softly and touch her nose tenderly, making her giggle.

– I preferred to spend more time with you.

She simply said.

Nabi made some teasing comments towards her friends that made Jiwan laugh, on the other hand, Sol couldn't help but feel more nervous about the situation. There were a lot of new things she had to get used to, but it didn't scare her at all anymore.

– Sorry, I can’t control myself when she’s so cute.

Explained the taller one when she was finally able to stop covering her face. Jiwan laughed softly after hearing that comment, she always managed to have the right words to make his heart flutter.

They both told Nabi a little about what had happened in the park and how they made the decision to start a relationship. When the rest of the students arrived at the studio, they greeted them and talked a little with them. They were able to notice that there was a little different behavior between Sol and Jiwan, but they were used to them being that close. The professor came in a couple of minutes later and began to give the explanation about the activities that would take place that week. The day of the exhibition was getting closer and closer and that made Sol tremble due to nervousness, however, she calmed down when she felt Jiwan's hand caressing her back with the intention of calming her down.

– You’ll be fine, you’ve done fantastic so far.

Jiwan told her after the professor left the studio.

Sol held his girlfriend's hand, which was caressing her shoulder. She played with her fingers and looked at her steadily before speaking.

– I´m still afraid, I don’t know.

Jiwan smiled softly at her before slowly approaching her and leaving a warm kiss on her cheek that left everyone in the room speechless.

– You’ll make it perfect, you’re amazing at everything you do.

Sol smiled before realizing that all their friends had their eyes on them. They seemed surprised by what had just happened, and it was until then that Jiwan realized what she did, maybe she had rushed things a bit. She took a deep breath expecting some awkward comment; they were her friends, but they were also in Korea and a relationship like theirs wasn't quite accepted yet.

– What are you looking at?

Sol asked when she realized that Jiwan wasn't entirely comfortable with the situation.

In a matter of seconds in the studio, the comments and sounds that their friends used to make when they learned that someone was in a relationship resonated. Jiwan was relieved to realize that they didn't seem to treat them any differently. Everyone wore a smile on their face except for Sehun, he looked puzzled and that made Jiwan smile in victory.

– So, now you’re dating?

Jinsu asked as he approached the two, however, Bit-na grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him away at once.

– I knew it, I always knew it. This wasn´t common.

Her friend said as she pointed them out.

They were forced to tell them a little of everything that had happened and they did. Sol smiled as she watched Jiwan briefly tell the story happily, she seemed to express herself freely after a long time. When she finished everyone congratulated them, even Sehun, and proposed to go out for dinner someday to celebrate. They were all aware of the high regard they had for each other and were glad that they could dare to take this new step in the relationship; they didn't judge them and that made them feel comfortable.

Jiwan lay with her cheek resting on her right arm as she watched her girlfriend arrange the messy papers and books on the bed. The last few days Sol had been very focused on the essay on her sculpture, they were only a few days away from the exhibition and she had to hand in the paper for the professor tomorrow. The shorter girl didn't take her eyes off Sol's profile, who was biting the cap of the pen between her fingers in nervousness as she read the essay over and over again looking for any error or inconsistency, she didn't want to leave it until she was sure it was perfect. Jiwan chuckled under her breath as she tucked a loose strand of her girlfriend's hair behind her ear, catching her attention and getting Sol to look away from the paper.

– Don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s excellent.

Jiwan said as she caressed her cheek gently.

Sol closed her eyes at her girlfriend's touch and placed the papers on the nightstand next to the shorter girl's bed. She was right, she was being too much of a perfectionist once again even though the rehearsal was fine.

– Sorry, I can´t help it.

Jiwan smiled before moving a little to be closer to the taller one. She knew perfectly well that it was hard for Sol not to have those kinds of behaviors, but she still wished that occasionally she could appreciate herself in the same way she did. Yoon Sol was perfect in everything she was passionate about and she was unable to realize that, it was a bit unfair.

The shorter one rested her forehead against Sol's for a moment as she fiddled with one of her girlfriend's hands. She watched her adoringly, trying to communicate with her eyes that she was perfect in everything she did.

Jiwan gave her a small smile and the taller one leaned over and kissed her. Sol felt her girlfriend's hand move down one side, caressing her side gently as her other hand released his and lifted it to caress Sol's cheek. Their mouths moved together in unison and the taller one could hear Jiwan moan as she playfully bit her bottom lip. Taking that opportunity, she couldn't help but push her back against the bed so she could straddle the shorter one, they sank deeper against the mattress beneath them as Sol eagerly brought their lips together again, her right-hand pinning Jiwan's next to her head on the bed.

Sol moved her mouth down tracing soft kisses along Jiwan's jaw until she reached her neck, she threw her head back in response as the taller one continued to leave warm kisses in the area, enjoying the feel of Sol's warm breath against her skin. Jiwan moved her own hand to lift the hem of Sol's shirt, sliding her palm against the taller one's right side and stopping when she reached her girlfriend's exposed breast. Sol's breath hitched in her throat after Jiwan's brush, and she stopped tracing kisses to turn her head and stare at her wide-eyed.

Sol pressed her mouth against Jiwan's again, her tongue darting into it eagerly, deepening the kiss impatiently as her hand groped down the shorter girl's shirt, moving underneath to caress the taut muscles of her abdomen before making its way down to her girlfriend's chest doing the same gesture there, caressing it delicately. Jiwan's back arched and it felt like her body was reacting in a completely different way, her skin was burning after Sol's caresses. In a sudden movement Jiwan managed to corner her girlfriend under her body, it was she who was now on top of the situation.

A small gasp managed to escape Jiwan's lips as she felt the taller woman's hands caressing the exposed skin under the thin cloth of her pajama shorts and sliding forward her hips, causing the generated friction to wet the space between her legs. Sol sat up slightly as Jiwan moved her head back to part her lips, keeping her forehead resting against her girlfriend's. The taller one pushed aside the hair covering Jiwan's neck and, seconds later, attacked her without any mercy. Her girlfriend threw her head back to give her better access and felt her legs begin to tremble as she heard the gasps coming from the shorter one's lips. Jiwan's hands roamed up and down her girlfriend's back as she enjoyed the sensation of having her lips on her neck and, without thinking, grabbed the edge of her top and forced her to take it off. Sol's top was exposed wearing only a cute black bra; however, the shorter girl couldn’t fully appreciate that scene because her girlfriend imitated her action, getting rid of Jiwan's top garment. She threw it on the floor and immediately pushed it against the bed again, placing both hands next to her girlfriend's head to support her weight.

Sol leaned down slightly to kiss her girlfriend's now exposed abdomen, tracing the skin until she reached the top of the shorts. The taller one looked up to watch her, there was a silent question in her eyes and Jiwan simply nodded, rising slightly, and allowing Sol to shed the clothing.

– You didn't have to check so much this time, did you?

The shorter one scoffed with bated breath.

Sol knew exactly what she meant, but at this point she was so focused that she found it impossible to formulate any reply to her comment. They both continued with their work until their completely naked bodies met each other. That night was filled with caresses, warm wet kisses, commitment and submission. Jiwan is unable to keep quiet as her girlfriend's lips gently brush across her breasts and runs her hand through Sol's hair, who smiles at hearing her partner like that. The shorter one slides her hands down the taller one's back leaving some scratches that she can't avoid, but it was something that Sol didn't mind at all. She felt everything around her start to spin when the taller one's tongue began to run down her thighs until it reached the space between her legs; it was far more intense than she could ever have imagined. When Sol broke away Jiwan forced her up to her lips, kissing her devotedly as she turned her body to position herself on top of her. Her lips moved down to one of his collarbones and she ran her tongue mercilessly, she had always liked that part of the taller one's body and she was no longer willing to hold back when she had her like that. Her body ignited again as she heard a moan come from Sol's lips and that alone motivated her to continue.

She lingered a bit as she reached her breasts and took care to give them the necessary attention. Sol had made her feel good and he really wanted her girlfriend to feel the same way. She knew her caresses didn't carry as much confidence as Sol's, but she just couldn't help but still feel a little nervous about the whole situation; the taller one thought it was kind of tender. Jiwan's treatment of Sol was a little more delicate and subtle, but it was just what she needed. The shorter one took it upon herself to kiss every part of Sol's abdomen and moved back up to meet her lips again. Her partner could feel Jiwan adopt a new position, placing her legs to the sides of her body and, before she could think of anything else, she felt herself move forward a little. The rubbing between their centers was inevitable and made them both gasp softly at the feel of it. Sol hugged Jiwan's neck and pulled her a little closer to her body; the shorter one hid her face in the hollow between her girlfriend's neck and continued the movement until they both felt their bodies tremble.

Jiwan's body fell next to Sol’s, and both tried to calm their breathing. That had been something completely new for both, but they didn't regret it at all. They stared at each other and smiled, they had given themselves to each other and that was an important step for their relationship. They stood up and got dressed awkwardly, Jiwan took her arm and forced her to lie down next to her, pulling her to his body as usual so they could fall asleep easily.

The next morning the taller one awoke to feel Jiwan's hands gently caress her face. Sol thinks it will be hard to forget the image of her girlfriend next to her after waking up, she looked beautiful first hour of the morning and she didn't understand why there had to be such a perfect person like her, it was unfair to everyone else, but she couldn't complain when she was the lucky one to have her by her side.

They both got ready for college and walked up to her with their hands clasped. What happened the night before had put them in an excellent mood that morning and they hoped to stay that way for the rest of the day. They greeted some of their friends and headed toward the school counselors' office. They were busy, but Sol planned to organize her essay there so she could turn it in to the teacher later.

Jiwan placed some snacks on the desk for her girlfriend and she thanked her sincerely. The shorter one's face rested on top of her hands as she admired Sol's beauty, she looked so unreal that sometimes she was unable to assimilate that this was her girlfriend.

Sol noticed Jiwan's gaze on her and moved closer to her face intending to kiss her, however, they were forced to separate when they heard someone open the office door. Sehun seemed to have the need to talk to the counselors and, even though they both explained that they were not there, he preferred to stay and talk to them. Jiwan whispered to her girlfriend that he was being annoying again and she couldn't help laughing at her comment. It was funny when the shorter one got annoyed by Sehun's attitude.

– Do you have a lot to do?

Jiwan asked.

Sol approached with the intention of whispering something to her, however, she left a warm kiss on her girlfriend's cheek making her laugh after the act.

Both were ignoring Sehun's complaints all the time, Jiwan thought that if he was uncomfortable due to the environment he could just leave and that's it, however, he decided to stay.

A funny phone call from Bit-na made the three of them burst out laughing, and when Sol finally finished organizing her writing, she told Jiwan that they could leave. They said goodbye to Sehun who seemed to have something else to say before they left, but the shorter one hurried the pace making her girlfriend also not able to hear the boy's words. Maybe it was a bit rude of her, but he wasn't entirely polite while he was with them either.

The professor congratulated Sol once she finished reading the essay and gave her a few more pointers regarding the exhibition, which would take place in two days. Jiwan smiled proudly as she watched her girlfriend leave the office and it didn't take long for her arms to wrap around her neck, bringing their bodies together in a loving embrace. Sol had worked hard for that and seeing that she was just one step away from accomplishing her goal made her feel very happy.

The day of the exhibition had arrived and Jiwan decided to take the initiative this time and pick Sol up at her home. The taller one smiled when she came out and saw the bunch of flowers her girlfriend was carrying in her hands, giving it to her immediately. Sol's cheeks were painted a light color of red seconds after holding the gift from the shorter girl, who didn't take long to take her hand and start walking. They chatted a bit on the way to the gallery where the sculptures would be exhibited and Sol mentioned being a bit nervous about it, however, the excitement seemed to be greater than the nervousness that time.

They cheerfully greeted Bit-na and Gyuhyun who seemed to be waiting for them outside the gallery. They walked inside together and mentioned how excited they were, Sol laughed softly as she heard her girlfriend say that her work would be the best and put her arm around Jiwan's shoulders as she mentioned that she couldn't be sure if she hadn't seen the rest of the sculptures. The shorter one knew that wouldn't be necessary, she was aware of Sol's natural talent and could bet everything on her without fear of being wrong. The taller one had tried her best to make her sculpture and she was sure that all the others were aware that Yoon Sol was always one step ahead of them.

The group of friends asked one of the school counselors who had overseen organizing the event to take some pictures of them pointing at Sol, congratulating her for her hard work throughout the school year. They walked through the gallery and admired all the sculptures, but when they got to Sol's they stopped a little longer.

– Yoon Sol, you're the best.

Jiwan congratulated her and Sol couldn't help but smile as she gently held her girlfriend's hand.

For the taller one, that moment was priceless. She had prepared for a whole year to perform well at the exhibition and had done so, however, she never imagined that she would be spending such a special and important moment in her life with the person she had been in love with for more than ten years. The love of her life was standing next to her, holding her hand, and congratulating her for all her effort and the result. She had Jiwan as her girlfriend and that was something she couldn't assimilate, she had dreamed for so long that it would happen, but she never imagined it could come true. Life was on her side this time and she was completely grateful for it.

What she was trying to express with her sculpture was the union of something despite the passing of the years. The railroad tracks were rusty and neglected, however, these details didn't prevent the fact that they could come together again. She thought about her relationship with Jiwan since she had the initial idea for the sculpture so it could be said that her girlfriend had been her greatest inspiration to be able to successfully complete her work. She and Jiwan had been friends for many years, and, despite this, they were still functioning just as well as they had on the first day. They had some problems during the development of their friendship and, as time went on, the feelings they developed for each other caused their relationship to take a different turn and they were fine with that.

When the exhibition came to an end, the group of friends decided to continue the festivities by dining at their favorite steakhouse. They had a few drinks and, as usual, began to argue about a specific topic and love was responsible for getting the friends to start arguing that night.

– Hey, the one who had feelings first and the one who confessed first, none of that is important. If they like each other and they’re dating, then it’s all fine.

Jiwan commented, making Sol chuckle under her breath.

What she was saying was true. In her case, Sol had been the first to have feelings for Jiwan, yet it had been the shorter one who had had the audacity to confess first, but none of this was truly important. They both felt the same way about each other and, being sure of it, decided to take a chance together and start a relationship. It would be inappropriate to make a big deal out of the fact that one fell in love before the other because, at the end of the day, their feelings were the same.

– Hey, listen – Sehun said – it’s all about who likes the other more, especially at the beginning.

– Sehun, this is exactly why you’re not dating anyone.

Jiwan complained.

– What’s the problem?

Sol asked.

It was funny that everyone remained silent whenever Sol spoke, she could become a bit intimidating and, besides that, she usually had pretty accurate opinions so everyone else preferred to keep quiet and listen to what she had to say.

– Shouldn’t you like the other person more? Why would you date them if you’re not certain? That’s a waste of time.

Sol stared at her girlfriend as she listened to the others start to fuss as they watched them. Jiwan smiled at Sol.

– Sol…

Sol smiled as she watched the shorter one place her hand on top of hers. It was too satisfying for both of them to be able to behave like an ordinary couple in front of their friends because, to them, it was completely normal for both of them to be in a relationship. The taller one's heart skipped a beat at her girlfriend's touch and they continued their conversation as they ate dinner.

It was late and the rest began to say goodbye to them. They stood up, said goodbye to Nabi, Bit-na and Gyuhyun and left the restaurant. Sol offered to give Jiwan a ride home as usual and the shorter one accepted.

They were holding hands as they talked about things they would do in the future. Jiwan mentioned that she was determined to be more responsible in college and Sol mentioned that she could count on her for anything she needed, the shorter girl was touched by the fact that her girlfriend was always there to support her in everything; she was lucky to have her. They mentioned that they should go out somewhere during the vacations and that they should plan more couple outfits for next year. They walked for a few minutes and, when they were outside Jiwan's house, they stopped in front of each other.

Jiwan smiled and moved closer to her girlfriend to join their lips in a soft kiss.

– I love you, Sol.

Whispered the shorter one when they separated. Sol's heart skipped a beat and she laughed softly after hearing that. She held her girlfriend's waist and pulled her close to her lips again, leading the rhythm of the kiss this time. Jiwan had just told her that she loved her, just as she had heard her tell him in her fantasies and dreams, however, this time it was real and she still couldn't believe it was really happening. She was the luckiest person in the world.

– I love you too, Jiwan.

And so, facing each other, they brought their foreheads together as they smiled sincerely. More than ten years had passed since that first day they met in the park swings, neither of them had imagined that their friendship would advance to such a degree to reach this situation, however, they were truly grateful to fate for having allowed something so beautiful to happen.

They loved each other, they both truly loved each other and knew that the feelings they had for each other wouldn't change for anything in the world and that made them feel more secure than ever. What existed between them was something magical, something that would be difficult to repeat because of how special the relationship was from the beginning, but it was something that only they understood.

It was something so beautiful that only they could experience and they were completely fine with that.

I hope you like the story : )
