Chapter Text
Part Three: Wanna Be YOUR TYPE
Katsuki was pissed.
He didn’t know why, which pissed him off even more. He already didn’t like this extra and her Laser Eyes on Izuku, but then she asked him if they were dating. It made Katsuki’s heart climb up his throat. He felt hot and sweat built in the palms of his hand. Then Izuku barked, ‘No!’ and his heart instantaneously fell to his gut. ‘D-different guy.’
He went cold.
Laser Eyes continue to babble about a date and assuming and Katsuki’s vision clouded in shades of red.
The nerd had gone on a date and didn’t bother to fess up before or after the fact.
He knew something was up when Izuku couldn’t talk Friday night. He didn’t go into details either, and Katsuki didn’t bother asking. He just assumed he was hanging out with his dumb friends. But no, the stupid nerd went on a date.
The conversation kept going through the whole transaction. Laser Eyes kept apologizing, and the nerd reassuring her. Katsuki swiped his card fast, wanting it to end.
A wound festered and oozed in his chest as a nail sunk its tip deeper into his heart. He didn’t understand the sensation he was feeling, but he felt hurt. It pissed him off. The anger bubbled in the pit of his stomach, and he strained his mind to keep it from rising.
They sat back at the table.
Katsuki remained silent, not wanting to sound stupid or spout something that would hurt the nerd.
Then Izuku burst into an apology. It pissed him off even more.
He knew it wasn’t his business if the nerd went on dates. He fought the desire to know though, with the need to not. He couldn’t understand himself and became frustrated with his contradicting thoughts.
He needed to calm himself. Be indifferent. Or else this would end up ugly and Katsuki was through with hurting him. He had to get his emotions in check. If couldn’t, he’d have to excuse himself earlier.
“Why are you sorry?” He shrugged. “You don’t have to tell me about going on a date.”
You should, though. He begrudgingly thought.
Then Izuku threw him completely off, talking about his sexuality. He didn’t care at the moment. What was more important was the date. But the nerd kept going on like it was so important for him to know that he was gay. That he should have told him sooner or something. Katsuki didn’t get it. Why did he have to? Why was it something he had to do? He hated seeing the fear in his eyes. Like the nerd feared his reaction to this knowledge because he didn’t confess sooner. This double standards shit really pissed him off. Izuku shouldn’t feel like a fuckin’ villain for not telling him he was gay. The nerd didn’t seem to get it though, as he told him it wasn’t his job to sit people down and explain his sexual orientation.
“Oh…” the nerd finally said after their back and forth.
He finally relaxed, but Katsuki was still tense. He wanted to know who the nerd was dating. If the nerd liked the stupid bastard… if he had to share him.
Katsuki couldn’t make sense of his thoughts, but he’d figure it out later because he needed answers now. So he asked… and it was fuckin’ Vibrator. Fuck. His mood was molding. He clenched his hands into fists under the table.
“So you’re dating that bastard.” He clicked his tongue.
“It was just one date.”
Katsuki stared at the nerd with the loosening of his constricted breath. “Not seeing him again?” Hope rubbed at his skin, warming its cold state.
“Uh… no. He’s not really my type.”
He felt glass shatter, releasing him from a prison he was unknowingly barred in.
Again, excitement filled him. The nerd was still his… uh fuck… what kind of thought was that. He shook his head.
So, Vibrator wasn’t his type. Good, but what was the nerd’s type. What did he want?
Again, Katsuki didn’t know where this was going, this maze in his head. Emotions were a foreign land to him besides irritation and anger. He was confident in those negative ones. These building in him were warm in a way that hugged him with the desire to get someone to just look at him. He wanted to be wanted. It was crazy, but he didn’t care. Now he needed to figure out what the nerd wanted and maybe he could become it. Fuck, this was weird. To desire something other than his dream to be number one.
“What’s your type?” He blurted out.
Izuku’s eyes grew wide and his gazed dropped as his cheeks tinted. “Uh… to be honest… I don’t know.” He scratched the side of his face. An action Katsuki noticed the nerd did when he got nervous. “Haven’t given it much thought, you know? So busy chasing my dreams, heh.”
Katsuki understood, as he thought little about his own sexuality or what he liked but staring at the nerd and the emotions swelling in his chest told him he was learning.
“Same,” he admitted absentmindedly.
The nerd’s head tilted slightly. He stared into his big green eyes with confusion swimming in its ocean’s depths. His mouth hung open with a startled, ‘huh’ falling out in an airy breath.
Katsuki took in the nerd’s green curly hair, sticking up on all ends, his bangs hovering above his eyes and sticking to the sides of his face. A nice tinge of red colored his freckled cheeks and nose.
“Never thought about it.” He answered with his own head tilting to the side, taking in the green-haired teen. “I only just realized I like cute things.”
Izuku gazed back, eyes growing even wider. “C-cute…?”
The call of their order number pulled Katsuki out of his daze. He got up to retrieve their order, still thinking about the nerd’s type. He got to the counter and Laser Eyes smiled shyly, pushing his order toward him on the tray. “Enjoy!”
Katsuki grunted and picked up the tray. Izuku was definitely not into Laser Eyes, but what about Shutters? They were really close. Annoyingly so.
He placed the tray down with their drinks and a pepperoni and cheese flatbread pizza they were to share.
Izuku quickly swiped up a slice of pizza. He blew on it and took a bite. Katsuki followed suit, and they both chewed.
Katsuki always saw Shutters and Izuku together whenever the flirty teen worked. He’d find them chatting when Katsuki entered the cafe, and Shutters would be very touchy. Izuku paid no mind at all to the invasion of his personal space, and it sometimes rubbed salt in a festering wound Katsuki couldn’t pinpoint.
Katsuki wanted to dig more into the nerd’s head about what he wanted and find out if Shutters—er, what the fuck’s his name… Yui? Yuji? was someone to look out for.
Katsuki finished chewing and was direct. “What about Yuji?”
Izuku swallowed hard. “Huh?”
Katsuki shrugged slightly. “You guys are pretty close.” He took another bite.
Izuku chuckled. “Uh no, we aren’t each other’s type.” He waved his hand in front of his face. “You’re more our type.” The nerd laughed.
Katsuki’s heart skipped a beat, causing him to jolt in his seat. He almost choked on his food as it slid down half chewed from the initial shock of the nerd’s words. Did the nerd find him attractive?
“Our…?” He captured Izuku’s eyes with his own.
Izuku paled, and his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. “I meant his! You’re more his type!”
Katsuki couldn’t help the smile that pulled at the corners of his mouth. He noticed the panic in his eyes and grabbed another slice of pizza to hide it behind, so the nerd could settle down.
“S—so your work study was pretty intense, huh?” The nerd was quick to change the subject, and he’d let him for now. “From those bank robbers to Dr. Armageddon! I can’t believe he escaped from Endeavor.”
Katsuki tightly nodded. He hated that mission, as it was a failure. “Old man’s getting useless.” He ripped into his slice and chewed it with aggressive bites.
“Kacchan! This new villain’s quirk is still a mystery. I mean, rocks rained down and cause a lot of damage to the surrounding area. I’m sure Endeavor was leaning on the side of caution. Which is the better choice going against an unregistered quirk.” The nerd defended the old man, which annoyed Katsuki.
Katsuki finished his second slice. “He should have tried harder to gather more information.” He huffed. “The area was already destroyed and me and the extras on site cleared the area of civilians. He could have pushed more to reveal his intentions. Having a name like Armageddon can either mean the jackass is in way over his head, or he’s a fuckin’ threat to be taken seriously. The trail is fuckin’ cold now too, so it’s all waiting game on our end.”
Katsuki hated failing. Even though it was a team effort, it still felt like a personal loss. He really hoped the stupid villain was way over his head, but Katsuki’s gut told him that the Dr. Shit was very much a threat. There was nothing he could do about it now, so he’d leave it and focus on what was in front of him.
Izuku grimace. “Yea, true…” He shrugged and smiled slightly. “At least no deaths transpired.”
Silence settled around them, and the nerd seemed to have calmed down. He finished the last slice of pizza and sipped on his drink.
Katsuki wanted to circle back the conversation. There was nothing he could do about that shitty villain, and he was half caught up in his hero studies. So, he could allow his focus to deter to the nerd and his want in a partner. “You have to know at least one.”
“Huh?” Izuku placed his drink down.
“One thing you like in a guy… something you want.” He leaned back in his chair and studied the nerd, whose face took on a colorful journey to catch up with what Katsuki was asking.
Izuku’s cheeks bloomed red, and he hunched forward with his head slightly bowed, as if he was trying to hide it.
“An anchor…” He trailed off.
Katsuki eyebrows knitted together. “Hah?”
“Uhh it’s hard to explain.” The nerd hesitantly looked back up at him, scratching the side of his face.
Katsuki was curious. “Try me.”
“Well, uh, I’ve been told, a lot more recently, that I tend to live with my feet off of the ground. Which brought me to an anchor…”
Katsuki nodded for the nerd to go on.
“So, I thought maybe I should, uh, d—date someone that keeps me grounded, but like still allows me to be me. Like I’ll float, but not travel far away or something… It’s pretty stupid now that I am saying it out loud for the first time, heh.” He gave Katsuki a wobbly smile. One that didn’t quite reach his eyes, which made Katsuki’s gut clench.
“It’s not stupid. Pretty fuckin vague but not stupid.” He said.
An anchor, huh?
Katsuki wondered if that was something he could be, or better, convince the nerd he could be. Izuku seemed to be attracted to him. He gathered from the earlier slip up, but it could have just been a mistake like the nerd said. His gut told him otherwise. Attraction could hook the nerd, but what could he do to get him to stay. What did he have to do?
“What about you?” Izuku didn’t look at him, “what’s one thing you want in, uh, partner?” Izuku finally looked at him.
Katsuki didn’t want to be obvious, especially since he was still working through his rollercoaster of emotions. Despite that, he knew he wanted the nerd. He wanted to work through his growing clarity and figure out if he actually had a shot with him before confessing. So, he’d have to say something just as vague, but clear enough for the nerd to know that he was available to him.
Katsuki smirked. “I want him to be mine.” He held the nerd’s gaze and relished in the widening of his green eyes and the slight ‘oh’ his mouth formed after digestion what he said.
Izuku looked at a loss for words, so Katsuki decided to drawback for now. “Anyways nerd, we should get some work done.”
Katsuki couldn’t sleep. He’d been lying in bed since 9 and it was now 11. He and the nerd texted earlier in the day but didn’t make plans to call.
Izuku was doing his interviews, and he knew the nerd would be busy all day and probably all night, adding shit to his paper.
Despite that, he picked up his phone. He wanted to call him. So, he did.
Izuku picked up on the third ring. “Hey Kacchan,” his voice was low, but he could tell he didn’t wake the nerd. “Is everything okay?”
“Yea.” Katsuki answered, still thinking of what to talk about.
“Oh, um… did you need anything?”
He needed to hear the nerd’s voice, but he didn’t wanna admit that. “No.”
“Umm… okay… uh…” Izuku went silent. Katsuki almost thought the call dropped, but he heard the ruffle of sheets on the other end.
“You in bed?” Katsuki asked.
“Yea, I’m just settling in.”
He grunted in response.
“Are you?”
“Yea… for a while now.” He sighed. “Couldn’t sleep though.”
“Oh… Wanna talk about it?”
“Can’t.”
“Oh! Is it something secrete? Hero work related?” Izuku asked excitedly.
“No. I just don’t know.”
“Oh, um, well… how was your day? You said you had classes today, yea?”
“Mmhmm. It was fine. Kinda boring. Mostly reviews for upcoming exams. Nothing I don’t already know.”
“Yea, because Kacchan is too smart for his own good.”
“Whatcha tryna say nerd?”
He chuckled. “Nothing, nothing.”
Silence settled between them again.
“How was your day?” Katsuki asked in return.
“It was good. With the last of the interviews done, I’m finally feeling good about my paper…”
Izuku updated Katsuki on his progress, and then they talked about everything and nothing. They talked for over an hour and after Izuku yawn, Katsuki felt it was time to say goodnight.
“Alright nerd,” Katsuki began.
“Feeling better?” Izuku cut in.
Katsuki did feel better. He actually felt better when he heard the nerd’s voice. Yea… he was fucked. “Yea. I guess I just needed to hear your voice.” He admitted.
He heard the hitch in Izuku’s breath, causing Katsuki to smile. “Goodnight nerd.”
“G—Goodnight Kacchan.”
Izuku burst through the door of the principal’s office.
“Sorry Principal Taeda! I didn’t mean to make you wait so long—”
“It’s alright, it’s alright Midoriya.” Principal Taeda cut him off with a hand raised. His principal stood in his gray suit with a hand in his pocket and had turned his head slightly in direction of the doorway. His salt and pepper hair slicked back and his beard nicely groomed. “We sent for you last minute. Everything is happening so fast, and things needed to be settled before informing you as to have you fully briefed when we sent for you.”
Izuku stayed frozen in the doorway, confused. “I’m sorry, sir, but what do you mean briefed? About what?”
Class had let out early, and Izuku had gone to the library to get started on some work for his economics class when his class president informed him, out of breath, the principal had summoned him to his office. His class president was hunting for him for a while, which caused Izuku to panic and race to the office.
The principal move to face Izuku. “Well, first, let’s make introductions. Well, I am sure he doesn’t need any, but let me anyway.” The principal stepped aside, and a hulking form moved into Izuku’s field of vision. Familiar yellow hair, and eyes covered in shadow, faced Izuku. “All Might meet Izuku Midoriya, and Midoriya, meet All Might.”
Izuku’s eyes widened. The last time he saw All Might in person was in his last year of middle school, when he spurred on Izuku’s new dream. Now, almost three years later, the man stood before him yet again. Instead of street clothes, he wore a yellow pinstriped suit with a blue tie.
“It’s good to see you again, Young Midoriya.” He beamed at Izuku with pearly whites.
Izuku was doubly shocked. “Y—You remember me?”
All Might laughed loudly, “Of course. It was a first for me when a fan fearlessly attaches themselves to me when I leaped into the air.”
Izuku blushed. “I-I’m so sorry about that.”
“It’s fine, young Midoriya. I’m happy to see you are doing well.”
“Thanks All Might.”
Principal Taeda chuckled. “Why don’t we sit? There is so much to discuss.”
All Might motioned for Izuku to take a seat first. Still in awe of having his favorite hero present, his legs turned to jelly, and he stumbled into a chair. All Might and the Principal followed suit, with All Might sitting next to Izuku and the Principal sat at his mahogany desk facing the two of them. His face had grown serious, making Izuku gulp and pull at the collar of his uniform.
His principal folded his hands and rested his elbows on the desk. “Midoriya, I’m going to be frank, but I don’t want you to panic. As I’ve said, we wanted to have everything figured out before summoning you. I understand that you’ll have a ton of questions, but please be patient as we both brief you fully before doing so. Can you do that for me?”
Izuku nodded. “Yes, sir.”
“Good.” The principal turned to All Might. “How about you start, and I’ll finish?”
All Might nodded and turned to Midoriya. “As you know from the news outlets, Dr. Armageddon made an appearance as a formidable villain last week and has since disappeared underground.”
Midoriya nodded.
“We’ve taken his threat to the public seriously and have pooled plenty of resources into finding and detaining him. We discovered after assessing the damage in Hosu City district, he can create a meteor shower. It’s not very destructive, but if he can increase the sizes of the meteors or produce them faster, it could really bring about Armageddon. Which brings us to you. We were just tipped off from an undercover source that Dr. Armageddon is planning to kidnap you in order to maximize his quirk ability. Our resource says that he had taken an interest in you and believes you can help him.” All Might turned to the principal.
Izuku clenched the trim of his shirt with both hands. He was being targeted? By a villain? His mind couldn’t grasp that information.
The principal gave a tight nod. “Now Midoriya, because of this threat to you, our student, we are working with UA to keep you safe. They have come up with a protection plan that will act as a sort of internship slash exchange program for the remainder of the term. It will not affect your education in any way, and you’ll be under their care until they sort this mess out. We’ve informed your mother of your transfer to UA, and she will be here soon to drop off your things and say goodbye.”
Izuku’s eyes widen. Would the villain target her too?
Principal held up his hands. “She is, of course, under protection as well, but since an undercover agent’s life can be in danger if we don’t play our cards right, she’s being sent on a trip with a family friend who won said trip and chose her to go along with them. All paper trails will lead to this having been planned out for a while for you to study at school UA as a future hero teacher. So, Midoriya, any questions, concerns about your situation? We will happily answer them. Rest assured though, we won’t let anything happen to you or your mother.”
“We will do all within our power to find and put a stop to Dr. Armageddon and you’ll resume your normal life,” All Might finished.
Izuku didn’t know how to feel. “Are you positive it’s me and not someone else?”
“100 percent.” Both the principal and All Might said together.
“Does my mom know everything?” He kinda hoped they left out the whole villain trying to kidnap him. He’d want his mother to enjoy this vacation. She definitely deserved it.
The principal looked a bit sheepish. “We twisted the story a bit. We left out everything about the villain.”
Izuku let out a huge breath in relief. “Good. I want her to enjoy her vacation. What about the family friend? Who is it?” Izuku couldn’t remember all of his mom’s friends. She didn’t go out much and spent most of her time taking care of him.
“Ah, Mrs. Bakugo is informed about everything. She even said not to say anything to your mother. Rest assured; Mrs. Bakugo is well trusted as her son is a part of the hero program at UA.”
Izuku’s heart raced at the mention of auntie. Of course, it would be Mrs. Bakugo! He hadn’t seen much of her after he and Kacchan started middle school because she worked as often as uncle, but he knew that both their mothers kept in touch.
Izuku breathed a sigh of relief. “Yes, I know him.” He smiled for the first time since he entered the office.
“Ah, so you know young Bakugo?” All Might asked with a quizzical brow. “We weren’t sure if you were friends or not yourselves.”
Izuku nodded. “Does he know?”
“Not yet. His teacher will inform him today when everyone is back at the dorms.”
“Okay.” Izuku felt strangely calm, but he trusted them, and it really seemed like they were well prepared, but the term was at the half mark. “What about my assignments? I finished my paper for Quirk studies, but I still have exams and assignments before summer break.”
The principal smiled. “Ah. We have that covered. You’ll be transferred into classes closest to what you’re studying, and all credits will transfer. The teachers at UA are willing to work with you on anything you don’t know or wasn’t already covered in class, but we already compared courses, so nothing to fear. We’ll see you back here after summer break.”
Izuku was nervous, but excited to be going to UA even if it was for only two months. He knew it will be confusing at first, and most likely take a bit to adjust too, but he was ready.
Katsuki sat down in the communal area with the rest of his dorm mates, class of 2A. Aizawa had informed them they would have a meeting there after all classes ended and they weren’t to go anywhere until after. Nobody knew any insider information for the sudden meeting, and everyone sat around speculating. Katsuki didn’t bother to make guesses with them and just listened.
There was fear of a possible group training exercise that would be done over the weekend since everyone was back from their work studies. It had been a long time that everyone from class 2A were together. It wouldn’t really surprise Katsuki if that was what Aizawa planned. No rest as usual. He really hoped it wouldn’t be all weekend, or an all-day affair, so that he could meet up with the nerd at some point.
Aizawa walked into the dorms, and everyone quieted down.
“Thanks for gathering everyone. I’ll get straight to the point. We will be housing a student from another school for the time being.”
Katsuki heard and few gasps of disbelief and a few whys. Aizawa just raised a hand, quieting everyone again.
“This actually has to deal with Bakugo and Todoroki’s work study. Everyone knows that last week, Dr. Armageddon made his appearance and threated Japan with judgement day.”
“That asshole reappeared finally?!” Katsuki blurted out.
Katsuki couldn’t help his outburst. That work study mission really grated on his nerves. Especially since that trash villain got away. There were no casualties, but the villain caused a lot of damage to Hosu City district with a quirk they barely had any information on.
Aizawa fixed his eyes on Katsuki. “He hasn’t surfaced again, but we got insider information that he is targeting the student in order to help enhance his abilities.”
“Does this student have a quirk with that ability? An ability to enhance quirks?” Four eyes asked.
“No, this student is actually quirkless, and that’s why he’ll be protected here at UA and under our care.”
Katsuki’s heart thudded in his chest. There was no way, but it couldn’t be anyone else but Izuku. His quirk studies were internationally known. It could only be him. The nerd had a target on his back, and it was put there by a shitty villain he let slip through his fingers.
“Who’s the student?” Ponytail asked.
“Why do they think he’s a target?” Four Eyes asked at the same time.
“Where is he?” Katsuki’s voice rang above the other questions.
Everyone quieted and looked at Katsuki.
Aizawa looked slightly surprised. “He’ll be here any moment with All Might. So let me finish catching you all up to speed and save your questions for later—”
The front door of the dorms flew open. Katsuki and everyone turned their attention to the sound.
“We are here!” bellowed the very familiar voice of All Might. He slid in, followed by a familiar tussle of green hair. Emerald eyes immediately locked in on his.
“Hey Kacchan!” the nerd beamed at him while waving with his free hand. He was in his school uniform of blue slacks, a white-collar shirt and a crappily tied blue tie. He had his All Might backpack on and held a black duffle bag at side. He didn’t look panicked at all and there weren’t any scratches or bruises on him.
Katsuki squeezed his fists in his pants pockets, glad to see the nerd was fine. He gave a slight nod. “Sup, nerd.”
“You know him Bakugo?”
“They’re childhood friends.”
“Friends!”
“Bakugo had a friend?”
“Oh, so that’s why he was interested.”
“Interested?”
“Midoriya’s interview.”
“Bakugo, you had a friend? Shoto must feel so betrayed.”
“It’s okay. I had time to get over it.”
“WHAT THE FUCK GUYS!” Katsuki finally blew. “Is it that shocking?”
A chorus, Yes!, rang from everyone, including both his teachers.
The nerd bursted out laughing. “Sorry Kacchan.” He said in between breaths.
Katsuki’s ears burned but said nothing. He only hunched his shoulders forward, digging deeper into his pockets.
Aizawa turned his attention back to Izuku. “Well, since you’re familiar with Bakugo, you can go ahead and take the empty room next to his on the fourth floor.”
“Okay. Thank you, hero Eraser Head.” The dumb nerd bowed deeply.
All Might placed a hand on Izuku’s shoulders. “Young Midoriya, I’ll guide you to your room. You can get settled in before dinner. Aizawa still needs to brief the students as we have arrived earlier than the man expected, right Aizawa?”
His teacher nodded.
“This way Midoriya.” All Might ushered Izuku toward the elevator.
Once they were in, Aizawa turned his attention back to the students, but his eyes fell on Katsuki again.
“I was originally going to task Iida with taking care of Midoriya during his stay here, but since you’re familiar, would prefer to?”
“Ah sensei! As the class president, it follows under my duties and—”
“S’fine. I’ll do it.” Katsuki cut four eyes off. “Can I address these extras?”
Aizawa raised a brow but nodded. “Okay.”
Katsuki faced his dorm mates and sighed, already seeing their gleeful faces. “I know ya extras are excited, but don’t crowd him. Just let him come to you. He easily gets overwhelmed with many people, especially those…” he rolled his eyes, “he admires.”
Katsuki knew the nerd was still a huge fan boy. He already had to sit through several of Izuku’s gush sessions about these dumbasses.
“Wow.”
“So manly.”
“A protective Bakugo.”
“Never could have imagined.”
“So sweet!”
Katsuki scoffed and hunched his shoulders. “Fuck off.”
“Alright, you heard Bakugo. No crowding. Let him adjust. Now, before we were interrupted. Midoriya will be staying with us until summer break, but if Dr. Armageddon isn’t captured by then, it will be extended. He’ll be attending classes here, as well as teaching. We thought that this would be a perfect opportunity for him to put his theories to the test and consult students in the hero course. Since he is under our care, he’ll start with our class on Monday.”
The hall rang with a lot of Ooos and Aaaas and Katsuki had enough of it. He wanted to quickly shower and change, then drop in on the nerd. Katsuki shouldn’t be excited that Izuku was here since the reason for him staying in his dorm, and attending his school was pretty messed up, but he couldn’t help it. When he faced Dr. Rocks again, he wondered if he should first shake his hand before fucking him up for targeting the nerd.
All Might had left Izuku to get settled. He told Izuku that he needed to get back to the precinct to check on the progress on the police’s end.
Izuku unpacked his bags and placed his clothes in the closet and worked on organizing his desk. His mom really got everything he needed together. All his notebooks and even his external hard drive with most of his research.
He knew UA did this to keep him safe, but he couldn’t help the excitement of attending UA for this short time. All Might explained on the ride to the school that he would teach a few classes and it would count toward his internship credit he needed to graduate. This misfortunate situation he found himself in was actually a blessing. The best thing, and he knows he should be more excited about everything else more, but the best thing was Kacchan. He would spend the next couple of months with Kacchan, whose room was right next to his. They would go to school together, study together, eat together. His crush was in full bloom, and he would relish in it while he could. He knew he shouldn’t, but he couldn’t help it. The blond was way out of his league; him being a hero in training, having an amazing quirk, and annoyingly handsome on top of it all. He’d enjoy the time he had with Kacchan while it lasted. Before the blond was far out of his reach in his quest to becoming a pro hero.
A knock resounded on his door.
“Yes!” He jumped up from the desk chair and ran to the door, springing it open.
Kacchan stood in the doorway looking freshly showered with his hair damp. He was no longer wearing his school uniform and wore a black tank with a white skull. His hands rested in the pockets of his black joggers.
“Hey Kacchan.” Izuku said, voice low.
Kacchan leaned on the door frame. “Hey. Are you done settling in?”
Izuku caught himself staring and looked down at his feet. “Just about.”
Kacchan walked into the room and sat on the edge of his bed. “Well, dinners in 10. We ordered take out.” Kacchan eyed the room before locking eyes with Izuku. “Do you need any help?”
Izuku shook his head. “Not really. I was just organizing my desk.” He sat back in the desk chair and swiveled to face Kacchan.
“How are you? With everything going on, being a target…” Kacchan trailed off.
Izuku clasped his hands together and let them settle in his lap. “This might sound weird,” he began, looking around the room, “but I’m fine. My mom is with your mom out of harm’s way. And I’m here with you, at UA and I feel safe. Even excited.” He scratched the side of his face. “Is that crazy of me?”
“No.” Kacchan adverted his gaze. “I’m glad you’re here.”
Izuku flushed deep red. “Y-Yeah. We’ll be going to school together and hanging out more. It will be a cool experience.”
Izuku stared down at his hands. Quiet moments like this with Kacchan gave Izuku some weird sense of hope. Hope that the blond might actually return his feelings. Kacchan always said things that made his heart flutter, further fueling his crush.
Katsuki stood up from the bed. “Yea… Let’s head down. I’ll introduce you to the extras.”
Izuku followed Kacchan out of his room, closing the door behind them. They took the elevator down and the doors open to the hustle and bustle of Kacchan’s classmates. Some already seated while others set the tables. The food had already arrived, and some students were already dishing it out onto plates.
“Oi.” Kacchan called when they entered the room. “Quick introductions before we eat.”
Everyone stopped and stared. Izuku was a little nervous from the attention, but everyone was smiling at him, which made him a little comfortable.
Kacchan pointed at the first set of tables that were pushed together and close to them. “You already know Shitty Hair, Half n Half, and Lightning rod. That’s Raccoon, Ears.” There were loud sounds of protest, but Kacchan ignored them and continued. “Tape Worm, Ponytail, and Insomniac.” He then pointed to the second set of tables. “Ballsack, Four Eyes, Cheeks, Frogger, Shadow Puppet, Glow Stick, Shy Guy, Muscles, Tails, Haunter, and Appendages.”
Izuku gaped at the blond. He should have known he’d only go by the weird nicknames he came up with. “Kacchan,” Izuku whined.
“Whut.” He shrugged.
Izuku sheepishly turned back to the others. “Sorry about Kacchan.” He rubbed the back of his head and bowed slightly.
Kacchan scoffed and mumbled under his breath that Izuku didn’t need to apologize, but Izuku just rolled his eyes at the blond and elbowed him in his side. Kacchan glared at him but didn’t retaliate. He just hunched his shoulders, shoving his hands deeper into his pockets.
“I know everyone’s hero names, but if you want me to call you by your given name, then please tell me! Also,” He bowed. “Thank-you for looking out for Kacchan! And tolerating his weird antics.”
Everyone laughed while Kacchan bopped him on top of his head.
“Kacchan,” Izuku whined again, rubbing the sore spot.
“Just sit down, dumbass.” With a slight red tint to his face, he grabbed Izuku by the elbow and directed him to the first set of tables and nudged him into the seat at the end. Red Riot sat across from him and next to him was Chargebolt.
“Hello Midobro! It’s good to see you again!” Red Riot Smiled at him. “Uh, Kirishima by the way.”
Chargebolt gave a thumbs up. “Kaminari!”
Shoto, who sat next to Kacchan, leaned forward so Izuku could see him. “I’m Shoto Bakugo’s childhood friend, Midoriya.”
“So fuckin petty.” Kacchan said under his breath.
Hero Pinky waved at him from next to Kaminari. “Hey cutie! I’m Mina! Dig in! UA treated us to take out because of you!”
Izuku blushed and bowed slightly. “O-Okay! Thanks!”
Izuku spent the entire weekend with Kacchan, but also got the chance to talk with every one of the blond’s classmates. Not in one day, but throughout the weekend.
He really got along with everyone and there were all nice when he inquired about each of their quirks. They answered all of his questions and didn’t mind him going off on tangents. He knew this was all done to protect him from a villain, but he was really grateful for this opportunity. It all felt surreal. Like, at any point, he’d wake up from this amazing dream. But no, it was reality, and he couldn’t ask for more.
His mom was enjoying her time in Hawaii with auntie and they video chatted a few times already. He really couldn’t believe that UA had sent his mom and auntie on a month-long trip to travel all the islands with different excursions. The school and hero agencies working the case were hoping to catch the villain within that time, but if they didn’t, UA assured him they would have another plan in place to keep his mother safe.
His first week of attending classes at UA was great. The teaching part started off rocky, as he was extremely nervous, but starting with class 2A really helped him. He used his first paper as a baseline for his class and had each student write what they wanted to improve on and what weakness they noticed. He then set up a time slot to go over each of their concerns. It surprised him that even Kacchan took his advice.
Back at the UA dorms, Kacchan and Izuku fell into a pattern. Toward the end of the night, either Kacchan would sit up in his room or Izuku in his, and they would just talk until bedtime. Well, mostly until Kacchan’s bedtime, since Izuku sometimes went to bed late studying.
Izuku didn’t want to be greedy, as he was gaining so much, but he wanted Kacchan. The blond kept taking up space in his heart. He was literally about to burst. Or accidentally confess. He knew he should distance himself so that it wouldn’t end up happening, but once Kacchan was in his orbit, he forgot all of his worries. The only time he frets was when he was alone with his thoughts, but it was becoming rare that he was alone at all.
Katsuki needed to confess. He should have known Izuku would be popular with his dorm mates. He never saw those extras as competition, except now, when it came to the nerd.
Everyone was trying to take up his time with his nerd, but he wouldn’t have it. He secured nights with Izuku while trying to find the right way to confess to him, or even just ask him out. They hadn’t ventured back to talking about relationships since the time in the cafe, and Katsuki didn’t know how to casually bring it up again.
He never confirmed whether or not Izuku liked him at all. It’d be awkward if he asked the nerd out, only to be rejected in the end. He didn’t have the best track record with Izuku, and that could be his downfall.
Then it happened. Raccoon Eyes was grilling Izuku in the common area with some of the other extras about dating and relationships. Katsuki didn’t spy on them or anything, he just happened to walk by, stay put and listen in.
“Ooo this is so exciting! What’s your type?” Raccoon eyes squealed.
“Out of the boys, who do you think is the most attractive?” Cheeks asked.
“Do you have someone you like already?” Ponytail chimed.
Katsuki rolled his eyes but strained his ears to listen.
“Uh, well, I don’t really have type…” Izuku trailed off and Katsuki rolled his eyes.
He wondered why the nerd hadn’t figured it out yet.
“Well, what about Shoto?”
“Or Kaminari?”
“Kirishima?”
“You get along with them so well. Especially Shoto. He seems to have warmed up to you.”
Katsuki bristled. Damn Half n Half.
Izuku wave his hands in front of his face. “No, no. Shoto is handsome, but not really my type.”
“But you said you don’t have a type.”
“Uh, I don’t, but I know what I don’t want… if that makes sense?”
“So, you know what you do want?”
“Uh, well,” Izuku mumbled.
Katsuki tried to strain his ears even more. His heart thudded in his chest.
“I-I—”
“Hello ladies! Whatcha doing?” He heard a whiny voice. He spotted the stupid round head of balls for brains.
“Oh… hey Mineta.” The girls said together, with a sigh.
Fuckin Ballsack!
Katsuki went up to his room, grumbling under his breath. He was sure the nerd was about to say something and Ballsack had to interrupt.
Later, in Izuku’s room, Katsuki sat on the floor by the bed while the nerd laid across it. His head was by Katsuki as he laid there reading a book for one of his classes. Katsuki tried to read a book for his English class, but he couldn’t help replaying the conversation the girls had with Izuku in the common room.
He was getting impatient, he knew, but at the same time he really wanted to hear the nerd’s answer so that he could finally figure out what the nerd wanted, besides an anchor.
Katsuki sighed. He dropped the book to his side. “So, I overheard you and those extras.” He confessed.
He felt Izuku’s head turned toward him.
Kacchan was in Izuku’s room, sitting on the floor while he was on his bed, trying to read. He kept going over what the girls had asked, knowing fully well the answers to those questions. He almost confessed to them that he wanted Kacchan before Mineta interrupted them. He’d almost got these feelings off of his chest and could have possibly gotten some outside advice. Izuku had been texting Yuji about his prevailing feelings for the blond, and Yuji just kept telling him to confess. If only it were that easy.
“So, I overheard you and those extras.” He heard Katsuki say.
Izuku paled. His book fell from his hands at the realization that he almost outed himself to the blond today. He was now thankful to Mineta, although the boy was a little weird.
He turned toward Kacchan, but Katsuki stared straight ahead. “You still don’t have a type?” The blond asked.
Izuku just stared at him, unsure how to answer. He knew his type. He was sitting right there in his room. He just didn’t know if he should confess or not.
Kacchan placed his head back on the bed and turned and faced Izuku. He gazed at Izuku, face pressed against the sheets, their noses almost touching. Kacchan took in a breath and breathed out through his nose. His warm breath hit Izuku’s forehead, causing goosebumps to form on his arms.
“I wanna be your type.” Katsuki said in a quiet voice.
Izuku’s eyes widened. His heart rate increased and thumped against his chest. The sound pounding in his ears. He couldn’t look away from the heat of Kacchan’s eyes.
Kacchan opened his mouth, but then shut it. Then opened again. “I like you.”
Izuku’s heart was ready to burst through his chest and land in the lap of his crush. His crush who just told him he liked him. HIM! Kacchan just confessed and Izuku dumbly laid there, staring. His brain couldn’t connect to his mouth and Kacchan’s eyes began to waiver.
Izuku panicked when Kacchan motioned to move. He spun onto his side, raising his head slightly facing the blond right side up.
“I-I like you too!” He rushed out. “For a while now,” he blurted.
The blond’s lips twitched at the corner. “A while?”
Izuku face heated, and he knew he looked like a tomato. But there was no sense in back tracking. “Yea.”
Kacchan turned over on to his side, his arm resting on the bed. “Me too.” He confessed. “I just didn’t know it then.”
Izuku smiled down at Kacchan. “Really?” He whispered, not wanting to break the spell that enveloped them.
Kacchan nodded. “Yea.” He whispered back.
They just stared at each other until Kacchan broke the silence.
“Can I kiss you?” he said, still whispering.
Izuku let out a shaky breath. “Mmhmm.”
Kacchan leaned up, closing his eyes, and Izuku stayed put. His eyes fluttered closed when Kacchan touched their lips gently against each other and then pressed into it. It was a soft, but firm kiss that lasted only a few seconds before Kacchan back away slightly.
Both of them smile nervously at each other.
Izuku was happy in the moment, but his over working brain poisoned him with worry. He knew he was plain looking, a bit nerdy, a terrible overthinker, and easily overwhelmed others with his mumblings. Kacchan was the complete opposite, well except for the overwhelming part, well, he was more intimidating than anything. They were both aiming for different things. There were so many what ifs building in his head, and now that his wish came true, he wondered if it would be better to stay friends. He didn’t want to lose Kacchan after getting him back. But at the same time, he wanted this. It was just the start, and he needed to grasp unto that. He wanted to believe everything will come later. He still needed confirmation from the blond, though.
Izuku moved down to the floor, still facing Kacchan. “Are you sure about me?”
Kacchan frowned. “What do you mean?”
Izuku looked down at his fingers but met the blond eyes once again. “Well, I’m a shrub, and Kacchan,” he waved his hand up and down Kacchan’s body. “You’re like a Greek god.”
Kacchan’s lips twitched at the corners, and his eyes darken slightly, causing the hairs on Izuku’s arms to rise. “You don’t look like a shrub, dumbass. More like,” He looked Izuku up and down, “something to be eaten.” Kacchan smirked and leaned in and kissed Izuku again, whose face was back to a ripped tomato.
