Chapter Text
"Dream stop crying! They're big enough to handle this on their own" Fundy slapped his husband's shoulder who's crying a bucket beside him their body shaking at the force of their own tears.
Fundy rolls his eyes dramatically as much as how they could've done this chore alone he wanted to teach his sons the importance of responsibility and how to be independent. It's better to start early now so that when they grow they'll carry these values to heart.
"I can't help it alright?! I'm worried" Dream muttered through his hiccups and tears trying his best to keep his composure intact. He pinches the bridge of his nose and lets's out a long sigh at his husband's dramatic antics wondering how he fell in love with this idiot.
"It's just grocery shopping Dream and besides the nearest convinience store is just a few street down below us. Now stop acting like a kid you're not making a good impression as a father" Dream straightens his back at this all those unnecessary theatrics back then completely wiped out of his face replaced with a fiery power gleaming in his evergreen eyes the notion of impressing his kids overriding his mind. Now that that's out of the way Fundy turns to his kids who were quietly snickering at their father getting slapped giving them one last instruction before they go do their first ever big duty.
"Just follow the list I gave you and don't leave each others side. Connor, don't let go of your brother's hand alright? I'm asking this since your the big brother" Connor nods his head in understanding and grabs Yoghurt's tiny little hand in his lacing their fingers together as they march their way to the front door their parents following behind them to see them off.
With one last look at their parents the two children wave their goodbyes and descends on the smooth stone pavement hand in hand. The sight making both of their hearts lunge from cuteness overdose.
A few moment passes by making sure that the kids are out of sight before Fundy turns towards his husband's direction. Dream who in turns responds and watches as his husband smirks at his way that familiar mischievous glint taking over erasing the whole responsible parent shtick he put up a few minutes ago.
"Get your disguises ready we're heading out" Fundy declared making his way towards their shared bedroom grabbing his 'disguise'.
"And here I thought you wanted them to learn how to be independent. What happened to that huh Fundy?" although Dream might have been shocked he's just as worried as his husband is maybe more than him but trudges his way to their room as well to prepare.

The moment they arrive at the park opposite of the convinience store a few strangers as well as park visitors eyes them up suspiciously noting their choice of clothing and stature. Specifically speaking their talking about the 6ft 3 giant that's right beside Fundy looking like a massive overgrown creep with the outfit he's wearing.
" look when I said disguise I meant a mask, a cap, and sunglasses to hide our faces. Not whatever this is " he gestures at his fashion or in this sense disguise taste not at all amused at the get up.
When Fundy said disguise the only thing that's on his mind was to make sure his face is fully covered so that the kids won't recognize them this way it'll be easier to follow their steps without noticing their parents trailing behind. His husband on the other hand was on a completely different spectrum wearing a thick black winter jacket zipped up encompassing his tall and built frame making it easy to blend into the shadows a beanie of the same color covering his mop of blonde hair ,sunglasses denser than the sun's core hiding his eyes and a black mask to tie the whole 'disguise' he wore.
"I panicked okay?! I just wanted to be quick so that we can follow them and I ended up grabbing this" Dream whined out trying to explain his predicament.
"who wears winter jackets in the middle of summer?! " Fundy screamed whispered harshly at Dream pointing at the article of clothing that's making Dream sweat profusely beside him.
"I'm a dedicated man fundy you of all people should already know this" he exclaims back waving his hand dramatically in the air to further emphasize his 'dedication'. Fundy lets out a deep exhale It's one thing to be an idiot and it's another to be married to that idiot but can't Fundy have at least one peaceful break where his husband acts normal or at least decent especially when they're in public and most especially this task they're doing - pursuing their 6 and 8 year old kids to make sure they're alright.
He surveys the park they were hiding at making sure nobody is looking at them before turning back to his husband pointing his finger at him "I swear if you get us arrested I'm gonna take away your cuddling privileges for 1 month."
"what?! No fair how am I going to live through this now?" Dream slumps back melding himself with the bench they were sitting at huffing and puffing like a spoiled brat. Fundy snorts crossing his arms turning his attention back to the convinience store opposite from the park they were hiding- it seems that it's Connor and Yoghurt's turn at the cashier they were one by one giving the items in their basket to the cashier to check them out. He nudges Dream who was still in the middle of his tantrum refusing to even look or speak to him 'this dumbass'.
"Suck it up you idiot the kids are already half way done."
He jerks his thumb towards the kids direction who were being handed paper bags filled with the things listed on the paper Fundy gave to them. Dream turned to where Fundy was pointing noticing how the kids have already made their way out of the store and are now taking their trek back to their house still hand in hand.
"let's go" he whispers quietly standing up from their position with Fundy following next and crossing the street to trail behind Connor and Yoghurt who were a few meters ahead of them.
Connor was having a hard time balancing the heavy bag in his left hand while squeezing tight Yoghurt's hand in his right to make sure they don't let go. With the bag and overflowing contents in Connor's hold he couldn't pay attention to where they were heading at since it was covering his view and because of this he failed to notice the lamp post in front of him.
"shit!" the two of them screamed shaking the people who were walking around them and quickly dashes their way to the children's direction but even before they could reach him Connor collides with the lampost and lands unceremoniously on the sidewalk the contents of the bag he was carrying flying out some of them hitting him.
"Big brother Connor!" Yoghurt shrieked letting go of the bag and kneeling besides his brother who was hurt. He tries to help him up by clutching the hand in his hold and pulling them up but Connor would not budge too focused on the bump forming on his forehead. A few stray tears appears at the corner of his eyes triggering Yoghurt who is worried deeply for his brother and cries with him instead.
Fundy and Dream appears beside them kneeling on the ground inspecting the injuries their eldest child might have had with that collision. Fundy notes the bump on his forehead and the tear tracks cooling on his face. He takes off his mask and sunglasses to have a better look at how bad it is though thankfully the bump isn't at all that bad it just needs a bag of ice to cool down the swell.
"Dad and Papa?" the two of them ask wondering when did their parents get here.
"Hey, it's alright come on let's get you home you've already done the job and I'm so proud of the both of you. Don't worry we'll treat it right away so that it won't hurt " Fundy shushes them comforting the two children and that seems to work as their labored breathing slows down.
" As prize for a job well done papa will cook his special recipe that you all love " Dream quips trying lighten up the mood. It works as the children lits up at this a smile forming on their face at having fried chicken for dinner tonight.
They gather the fallen items of groceries and one by one puts them back on the paper bag each of them taking one to carry home. Fundy cradles Connor in his hold who in turns encircles their hands on Fundy's neck nuzzling their head between it. Dream hums along to a song that's been stuck in his head for a few weeks now as he grabs Yoghurt's hand in his and leads their family back home.

Before Dream could even approach his husband and kids a hand on his shoulder stops him on achieving this. He tries to shake it off thinking that someone might have mistook him for a friend but the firm grip won't budge or relent so Dream is forced to face the stranger.
"I'm sorry I think you got the wrong perso-" the familiar blue uniform greets Dream first followed by the shining badges that gleams too shiny under the sunlight hitting him in the eyes whenever he stares at it. The loaded gun safely tucked by the stranger's hip lets Dream know who he's facing right now isn't just a 'stranger' at all a heavy lump forms in his throat he tries to back away from the officer raising his hands in mock defeat.
"Officer it's not what you think it is I swear." Dream stuttered out but the officer only raises his brows at this unconvinced at the statement given.
He frantically darts his eyes around sweat running down his chin making him look even more suspicious. He decides to take off the beanie, mask, and sunglasses to better prove to him that he isn't a creep at all and that this was just a misunderstanding on his part though hopefully he doesn't get arrested because of this.
"Look officer I'm that guy's husband" he points to Fundy who was watching him with amusement clear in their eyes a look that said 'i-told-you-so' obviously written on it "those are my kids as well" he jerks his hand towards the two kids huddled closer with an obvious stain of tear tracks on their face.
The officer hums at this making Dream squirm on his hold afraid that he just made this situation worse than before. He turns to Fundy to ask for help but his husband only responded to him with a barely hidden snicker mouthing the words he knew beforehand.
'I told you so'
"Sir, do you know this man?" the officer asks double checking if Dream's statement was indeed true or not while still keeping a solid grip.
Fundy tilts his chin to the side as if it was a math question that needed time solving and this just gets on Dream's nerve irritating him knowing full well what his husband's intentions are. 10 seconds passes by the silence grating to Dream's patience who wants nothing more but to run but before he can act on it Fundy decided to end his torture and bobs his head at the question.
"Thank you for your cooperation." Fundy nods at this in response and then the officer turns back to Dream who looked relieved and lets go of his hold "Sorry for the mistake sir the people were just concerned for the children's safety. Please think of this as a warning next time" with that the officer makes their way exiting out of the scene without even looking back.
A loud booming laughter followed by two high squeals knocks Dream from his musing and turns facing his traitorous lover who is definetly having the time of his life. He adjusts the lapels of his jacket embarrassed at the scene he had just caused wanting to dig a grave where he stands to wallow and forget this day ever happened.
"I told you so and now look at what happened. Be glad you didn't get arrested right there on the spot" Fundy was still reeling from the laughter that scene had caused him just awhile ago clutching his stomach to try and calm himself.
Dream stomps his foot on the ground frustrated and embarassed at the reaction he got "If someone helped me maybe I wouldn't be in that position but no~" he replies sarcastically glaring at his lover.
"Oh please you were the one who said you're a dedicated man and see where that got you. You reap what you sow Dream" the man in question deflates at this betrayed by his loving husband who he thought was the only one who'll be by his side through thick and thin.
"Oh stop pouting you promised the kids to cook tonight's dinner so hurry up and help me" Fundy quips not paying attention to another one of his husband's mood swings that changes as rapidly as the seconds that tick by.
"does that mean I won't get my punishment? I mean technically I didn't get arrested so it doesn't count right? " he ask a hopeful tone to his voice pleading to him silently. Fundy watches Dream trying to imitate how a sad kicked puppy looks like to get away from his punishment. He decides to amuse his husband for longer and contemplates the answer humming along to make it believable while counting the seconds that passes by observing how Dream fidgets on the spot nervous. He opens his mouth ready to say yes before quickly changing his mind crushing that hope in his eyes.
"Nope" Fundy says smugly putting stress on the p for more emphasis.
"What?! But I'm not behind bars so it doesn't count" His husband counters.
"yes so you don't get the one month ban" that hopeful looks comes back on his face heaving out a sigh.
"But what you do get is my chores and you'll be doing then for 2 weeks" Fundy adds watching how Dream's face morphs into annoyance making him break into laughter once more. Connor and Yoghurt who were silent the whole time now laughs along with their parents amused with everything that's happening.
"Your dad is so cruel to me. I hope when you two grow up you won't end up like him" he points to his husband who was still laughing "a meany".
"just be glad it's not a heavy punishment. I'm sure you would have loved the one month ban than this" Dream pretends to think this over and decides that yeah this is a much better punishment.
"good now let's go home" now that the problems settled Fundy carries Connor into his hold tucking him in his grasp to make it comfortable while balancing the grocery bag Connor was carrying a while ago.
"yes sir" Dream nods grabbing Yoghurt's grocery bag he put down and taking the younger one's hands into a much larger one a slight skip to his step indicating his happy mood.
