His inability to sleep was the reason Magnus decided to wait until Catarina's shift ends, and she comes back from the hospital.
She gave him a concerned glance after checking up on Madzie. ''Everything okay?''
''It is, don't worry. Although I have to tell you I promised Madzie a late movie night soon. With you and Ragnor, and I even included her other uncle in the offer,'' Magnus admitted, ''I know he says he isn't good with children, but he still hasn't realised Madzie adores him.''
Catarina nodded while taking off her shoes and finally having the chance to stretch out her tired feet. ''He drove me here by the way. His taxi was in the area, so he's right outside. Didn't come up because he thought you would be sleeping.''
Magnus raised his head immediately after hearing that, and he must have looked pretty funny to Cat, but she only offered him a sympathetic look and didn't have to say anything else. Magnus was soon on his way to the stairs.
He easily spotted the taxi once he was outside, hurrying towards the man leaning against it and talking on the phone. The other had only a couple of seconds to blink in surprise and hang up, before Magnus was wrapped around him.
''Hey,'' Alexander spoke against his neck, hugging him back immediately. ''Are you alright?''
Magnus gave a jerky nod, ''Just a little emotional tonight.''
Alec hummed in understanding, ''Did Madzie keep you up all this time?''
''Nuh-uh. I was too much in my own head.''
Alec pressed a kiss to his hair and then his temple, all this care making Magnus want to sob but he didn't. Instead he lifted his head to connect their lips and welcome Alec properly, pressing his husband's body against the vehicle and coaxing his mouth open to deepen the kiss.
He briefly wondered how much time did Alexander have before he had to drive another client. Judging by how he responded, he didn't seem in hurry. So Magnus kissed him until both their lips were swollen.
Eventually, Alexander pulled back a little to see his face. ''Did something happen? Do you want to talk to me about it?''
Magnus looked back at him. ''Do you think you would come to regret it?''
''Regret what?''
''Following me here,'' he finished in a small voice. ''Searching for me for months. Rearranging your whole life because of me.''
''Magnus,'' Alec spoke gently, going for another lingering kiss before answering. ''It was my choice. I wanted to find my way back to you. And I couldn't even look at my parents after what they did, let alone be around them. And also - you were my family too.''
Magnus let Alexander embrace him more firmly, knowing he would be asking the same question next year, but also so grateful that he wasn't alone.
He was with the man he loved in two different lives, both as a merman and a mundane.
