Chapter Text
Courtney's eyes continued to scan the floor feverishly, like the answer was hidden deep between the grout of the tiles to what just happened.
With shaky breaths she pulled herself off the ground and over to the sink. Leaning over the bowl she turned the faucet to cold and splashed some of the water in her face, feebly trying to ground herself.
What just happened? Did I- did I just float? How- how is that possible? No, that's insane. That's impossible! I'm dreaming I have to be!
Courtney reached her hand over to her arm and pinched the skin.
Ow- ok can definitely feel pain.
She looked up from her hands and to her face in the mirror.
Ok, face looks normal.
Lastly, she pulled out her phone, looked at the clock then looked away then looked back.
Numbers and words aren't scrambled. This isn't a dream.
Courtney stood in disbelief until her expression of shock changed to one of excitement at a realization.
I have superpowers! You can fly! This- this is awesome! I have to tell someone!
Courtney pulled out her phone again but then stopped herself.
Wait, who would even believe you? If someone came up to you and said they could fly would you believe that? No…
But if someone showed me they could fly, then I might. But you have to be able to do it again. How do I…
Courtney stared down at the floor concentrating on making her body feel light, weightless.
How did I do it last time?
She closed her eyes tightly and tried to blank her mind of all thoughts.
Maybe if I just...
Courtney leaned back, hoping her powers would catch her…
“Uff- FUCK!”
To no avail. She pulled herself off the floor with an annoyed huff.
Ok what if…
She looked to her spot in the corner of the stall and sat back down. Same position as before, knees huddled to her chest, shoulders tensed. Making herself as small as possible.
Pretend they’re looking for you still.
Cherry on top, eyes closed and hands over her mouth.
Right outside of your view.
She could feel her breathing pick up. Maybe she was recreating this too well.
About to hurt you.
But in the end it worked. She felt herself being picked up off the ground. She brought her knees down from her chest and shoulders down from her ears. Simply hovering cross-legged a few feet in the air.
“Holy shit! I- I can fly! Now, can I just...” Courtney un-crossed her legs and slowly moved herself to a lying position. She got close to losing her balance and dropping to the floor, but before she knew it she was a few feet higher, stomach down in the air though very shaky.
“HOLY SHIT!!” The girl laughed to herself in excitement. She kept trying to move into different positions and higher in the air, but eventually she lost her balance completely and landed painfully on her hip mid spin attempt.
But the girl was unbothered by the pain, her small grimace lost in her continued laughter and joy.
She was so excited to show people.
