Chapter Text
Trystan Yamoto
Trystan felt uneasy. Currently, he found himself walking alongside his old friend Midoriya, who, besides giving him a few strange looks earlier, had been acting as if he didn’t recognise him. While it would be stupid to assume his friend of two years would not recognise him, he could hope that the boy simply thought the similar names and looks were coincidental.
Soon enough, they both stopped outside the new training building, seeing how Mentari’s team had destroyed part of the previous one. He coughed into his hand, “So, uh, Midoriya, right? D-do you have any ideas for a strategy?”
The other boy stayed silent, simply observing him. Trystan stood there uncomfortably, shifting back and forth on his feet before clearing his throat. This seemed to break the emerald-haired teen out of his trance.
“Right. I think I have a few ideas, Yamoto,” Midoriya responded.
Trystan nodded stiffly, shifting his attention from his thoughts to his teammate.

Trystan found himself strutting confidently down the corridor, a bluster and conviction in his expression that he didn’t feel. As of now, he had a few strength enhancers and a kinetic booster active, along with some durability increasers and air blast. Of course, all of these would be powerful, but he had to hold back slightly to maintain his cover for now.
Distantly he could hear All Might announcing the match start and the unmistakable explosions he had grown to hate every time he heard them at Aldera. Hopefully, Midoriya would handle Bakugo with his new quirk, ‘One For All’, as it was called.
Beginning to feel restless, he decided to activate two more quirks, ones that had been instrumental in his survival the last seven years. ‘Proximity’ and ‘Alert’. Proximity allowed him to visualise and or sense people that appeared, for lack of a better phrase, as blips on a radar map. It was highly accurate and allowed him to know where every living human was in a 20-metre radius. Alert was similar, except combined with Proximity allowed to expand his range to 30 metres.
There, on the edge of his radar, a minor blip moved fractionally back and forth two floors above his head. He could also feel two more blips that he was more than familiarised, fighting near the edge of his range somewhere. Not wasting any more time, he pressed his lips into a thin line before reaching up and collapsing a small section of the roof using his combination of strength quirks. Briefly, he could feel the blip that was Bakugo’s teammate - Hagakure, the invisible girl, if he remembered correctly - light up in alarm as she most likely felt the building shake beneath her.
Sighing, Trystan pulled himself up through the roof, doing the same to the next floor, exposing the area that revealed the entrance where the Villain Team had kept their mock weapon.
“EEEEEEE WHAT THE HELL” he heard an alarmed shout near the mock weapon before noticing the floating gloves and boots that signified Hagakure’s presence.
Trystan flexed his hands, cranking up his Intimidation quirk slightly, “Right, let’s get this over, shall we?” He stepped forward, ready to sprint ahead and seize the weapon with the capture take their mock-weapon before a ‘BOOM’ rocked the floor beneath his feet.
He stumbled back, grabbing onto the wall before shouting, “Holy crap, what the hell happened!” at no one in particular. Faintly, he could hear All Mights voice buzzing over an intercom somewhere, but it was heavily distorted, almost as if that explosion had damaged the intercom system.
“-kugo...op...now! Sus...nd...exercise ri...t imm...diatly! Trystan could guess what the symbol of peace was instructing but ignored it in favour of investigating what had happened. He gestured towards where proximity informed him Hagakure currently stood.
“I’m going to go check that out. You coming?”
She let out a shaky affirmation as they both began navigating through the building to find where whatever explosion had occurred. He could guess what had happened, especially since Bakugo had an explosion quirk, but Appraisal hadn’t ever informed him it could cause a part of the building to shake like that.
Or fucking collapse altogether.
He stood gaping slightly when the massive hole in the building greeted him. Just by observing it here, he could estimate roughly a quarter of the second through fourth floors had a chunk blown apart. Trystan heard Hagakure gasp at the carnage before his attention focused on Proximity. There, a few metres ahead, he sensed two people lying prone somewhere near the collapsed area. And a third which, in a matter of milliseconds, appeared where they were located and moved them back towards the observation room. Likely All Might.
He turned to Hagakure, “Do you have any idea why Mr Chihuahua did that? I thought you hero course guys are supposed to have restraint.”
She bristled visibly, or as visibly when one can only be seen as gloves and a pair of boots.
“We do! W-well, most of us do...I guess.”
He nodded sceptically, “Anyway...do you wanna head back? We should go check on those guys.”
She hummed in confirmation as she began to climb cautiously throughout the rubble. Trystan himself had no such patience, merely jumping through the ruins onto the debris-strewn floor before sprinting back towards the observation chamber.
A few minutes later, he reached it, greeted by the sight of all the 1-A kids crowding around All Might, seemingly pestering him with questions while his own impassive classmates sat down cross-legged on the ground. While Hagakure rejoined her classmates, Trystan sat down next to Kisaki.
He turned slightly, looking at Kisaki before speaking, “Do you know what the hell happened? Hagakure and I just felt a massive explosion and then stumbled across all that rubble.”
His classmate looked over at him, “Yeah, I do. Y’know how that Bakugo guy had those grenade gauntlets on his arms? Apparently, they stored some sort of liquid that, when released, made his explosions fucking powerful. Destroyed most of the corridor, but the small green guy punched through the explosion so hard it destroyed the goddamn building!”
Hansha shuddered slightly beside Kisaki, “Like holy shit, how are people that powerful!”
Trystan nodded, taking in the information. He had known that Bakugo was powerful before, but being allowed gauntlets that gave him the ability to destroy an entire brick and metal corridor was something else. How had he even gotten something like those accepted as a part of his hero costume?
But Midoriya...based on what Kisaki had described, Midoriya’s new quirk was able to completely destroy part of a building which was...troubling, to say the least. Especially if it had been given to him by All For One, although it was hard to imagine the kind, shy teen who had loved analysis in junior high become someone working under All For One, he’d be a fool to discount the possibility altogether.
Just then, All Might spoke up, seemingly frustrated, “Do not worry, students! Young Bakugo and Young Midoriya will be alright, Recovery Girl is currently looking them over, and you will be able to check on them if you wish at the end of this Heroics Practical. Now! Let us get on with the next exercise!”
The next few fights weren’t nearly so eventful but still quite enjoyable. Hansha and the armoured boy Iida had fought as the villain team against the sparkly french-speaking teen Aoyama and the frog-like girl Asui. While Hansha focused on confusing and overwhelming Aoyama, Iida himself dealt with Asui, who had taken a silent approach to capture her objective but was found by Iida, who within a few minutes had her captured, not without putting up a fight, however. Hansha herself had no such trouble with Aoyama, who keeled over in pain after using his quirk multiple times. Most likely some sort of drawback of using that lazer from his stomach.
Match four was much also reasonably entertaining, with match five being extremely fast but no less enjoyable. Kisaki teamed up with a student clad in a yellow, skintight costume that was extremely bland. Trystan was perplexed when he started pouring a small bag of sugar down his throat before he activated appraisal.
Rikido Sato
Quirk: Sugar Rush
Allows the user to increase their strength fivefold for three minutes. To activate the ability user must consume 10 grams of sugar beforehand, and every 10 grams ingested afterwards extends the time of increased strength by an additional three minutes. However, cognitive functions are gradually lost over time until drowsiness and then unconsciousness.
That explained the sugar; however, a drawback that bad was highly detrimental. He shook his head and turned his attention to the match. The match started with the Ururaka and the tape guy that Trystan couldn’t remember the name of, floating and tying the weapon on top of the roof of floor 4, while Kisaki and Sato sprinted and smashed, respectively, through the floors starting from floor 1.
This is where it got interesting, Kisaki’s arm became marked with small glowing blue lines, that within a few seconds, reformed themselves into what looked like the blunt end of a sledgehammer. However, Sero quickly captured Sato upon entering the room, with Kisaki following soon after without the aid of his teammate.
The fifth match was relatively fast, Todoroki freezing the entire building and seeling the entrance to where their mock-weapon was located with his Ice, while Shoji listened out for the approaching Hero Team. This first attack posed a little problem to Ashido and Tokoyami, who simply melted and destroyed the ice. The next move by Todoroki finished the exercise, however, as he merely encased both of them in ice as they approached the second floor.
The final match between teams H and J was more drawn out and less interesting, with Kaminari holding back Ojiro, who couldn’t land any hits on him without being electrocuted, while Kirishima tried to power through Jiro’s sonic attacks. Surprisingly, however, Ojiro decided to grab a chunk of a pillar with his tail, ripping it free from the ceiling and swinging it towards Kaminari, who didn’t even get to try and defend himself as a result of his quirk overuse.
Soon after Kaminari’s capture, Kirishima managed to push through Jiro’s sonic attacks and apprehended her using his capture tape. As soon as the final match concluded, All Might called on Iida, who had kept his hand raised for the past few minutes without even so much as showing any discomfort.
“Thank you for calling upon me, sir! With all due respect, why was the vill - class 1-C taking part in this exercise? As far as I know, they are not a heroics class!”
If anything, All Might’s smile brightened, “Good question Young Iida! Well, Principal Nezu recently decided that they will most likely be integrated into a third heroics class eventually, and thus believed such training might be necessary!”
Trystan felt his muscles tense slightly. Well fuck, this wasn’t supposed to happen.
He would dwell on this later in the dorms and decide on his plan of action later. For now, he just had to focus on leaving as soon as possible. The other 1-A students filed out of the room, with Trystan and his classmates following closely behind.
While he was mulling on his current situation, he felt a tap on his shoulder. Looking up, he saw Asui, the frog-like girl that had lost against Iida.
“There’s something I wanna say.” She turned to Trystan. “About you guys, actually, Yamoto.”
He raised his eyebrow, a little confused by the girl’s rather straightforward demeanour. “About us? What do you mean Asui?”
“I have to say, you guys are a lot nicer than I was expecting ribbit. Especially considering how many of you were probably admitted.”
Mentari who had been walking behind the rest of the group chimed in, a strange look on his face. “And what’s that supposed to mean? I myself was forced here since my quirk can be extremely dangerous if I don’t suppress it.”
Kisaki spoke up next, “Yeah, I was a vigilante because the area where most of my old friends lived in had probably one hero patrolling it. Once per week.”
Trystan decided to address Asui next, “I’m in the same boat as Mentari. Since my quirk causes pain as a side effect on people when I use it, it can sometimes damage a person's nerves. That’s why I’m wearing my gloves.”
Just then, Hansha who had been looking down at her feet for the past few minutes, “Meh, I guess I fit into the category you were talking about. I stole from people and some small banks because my family was struggling.” She said this with a casual shrug, but her shoulders were tensed.
Asui simply nodded, seemingly satisfied with the responses given to her, before she walked up Ururaka, the gravity girl and the ‘guy with a stick up his ass’ as Kisaki had dubbed him.
Soon enough, he found himself at the entrance to the Heights Alliance dorms, but something stopped him from stepping in, as his classmates had done moments before. He turned around walked back the way he had came, a new destination in mind.
Trystan stopped outside the Infirmary five minutes later, sitting down on a chair outside the door. He had seen Recovery Girl leave the room carrying some sort of document, while two people from 1-A, Ururaka and Iida, had entered. While he was intending on checking on Midoriya, he wanted to wait for the hero course students to leave. Especially if it turned out that Midoriya recognised him.
Speak of the devil, Midoriya himself exited the room with his two classmates, pausing when he saw Trystan.
“Oh...hello Yamoto. Did-where you looking for Recovery Girl.”
Trystan hesitated in his response. He really didn’t want to do this, but it was necessary in order to attain where Midoriya stood in terms of All For One. “No, actually. I wanted to... talk , to you. I think it’s something that’s been bugging both of us today.”
He saw the way his old friend's eye’s widened, the way his jaw tensed and his classmates froze, looking slightly concerned. “Yeah, I think I know what you mean. I-meet me outside by the gate.”
Midoriya turned towards Ururaka and Iida, “You guys can go on ahead, I’ll meet you at the station later.” They looked hesitant, but as instructed they turned around and walked away.
Trystan forced a strained smile on his face, “Well, lead the way dude”
